We came ashore off the Jewel of the Seas and the captain onboard had said that we must try fish and chips in Shetlands and there were several good ones. So we selected here. There was a staff member female about 20 and she was rude to customers and a male in his late 50/60s who was maybe the owner and he screamed at people not to stand in the doorway and it was belting with rain. Coming from Australia we were shocked at how greasy it was as well as the demeaned of the staff who seemed overwhelmed - whereas they should have been happy and grateful for such a thriving business opportunity. My advise is sell and chase your dreams elsewhere.

Our group visited here for a pre-arranged part service/part buffet snack lunch during our tour of Southern Shetland. The buffet had a good range of choices. The restaurant was very busy with a number of large groups, and although the service was friendly and pleasant, it was very rushed, probably due to the numbers involved. The ambiance/environment was very pleasant, and the service would probably have been more relaxed with less pressure.

Great choice at the breakfast buffet and efficient and friendly service at dinner time. The choice was perfect and the food was good when it arrived - and the plates were not overloaded; just enough and of good quality. A great dining experience.

The staff were lovely at the Hotel and couldn’t help us more. They talked us through local beers, gins and the wine on offer and although it was very busy they were welcoming and friendly. We had a nice tomato soup and a tasty lasagna which warmed us up after a couple of hours watching Puffins up the road. If you want a reliable meal, with nice views over the sea and a nice atmosphere this is a great place to go.

We stopped here for a meal after visiting Sumburgh lighthouse. The food was good. We both had a roast dinner. I had lamb and it was cooked well. The only thing I would say is I prefer my roast potatoes more crispy. For dessert, we both had apple crumble with custard and it was excellent. Service was really good. Would recommend!

We ate at the hotel restaurant as part of our stay at the hotel. The food was always delicious both at dinner & breakfast. The staff are lovely; very friendly & helpful, and they diligently ensured my food was gluten free. They also accommodated our fussy children with no problems, even going out of their way to find a previous day's dessert for our youngest who didn't choose it on the day & regretted it all the following day until they found some for her! Brilliant food & service, thank you.

After seeing the Jarlshof Archeological site. Very nice restaurant and nice service. We had 24 people in the group, so they got us in and out in a reasonable amount of time. I had the cold cut platter and fresh fruit for desert. The meal was good. Nothing spectacular, but well done and the service was fine. It is very conveniently located next to the Jarlshof site. So even if you do not eat here, you can drop in for a coffee, tea or your favorite adult beverage. It is about 20 miles from Lerwick so be careful on those adult beverages.

It is always wonderful to find that gem in rough. I cannot comment on the accommodation but can on the dinner table. Finding a place that serves such good food on the southern tip of the Shetlands is unexpected but it was so good we went back again before we left the area. The welcome was warm, the service was great and the food was just good. Getting there you also have the experience of crossing what must be one of the few level crossings on an airport runway that exist in the world and if you like collection curiosities as you travel this is one for the books / albums.

While on a full day trip, the Sumburgh was the site of a pre-booked reservation for our group of 8. We arrived before most people, but it quickly filled up. However, for whatever reason, our order took a long time to be taken and then entrees served at irregular times. Members of the group were good to suggest going ahead so hot items would not become cold. The food was good but nothing especially memorable and service spotty. It is a lovely setting with plenty of parking and nice views, close to several favorite sight seeing attractions.

Let me start this by saying, I usually do not write bad reviews. And I hesitate to do so even now, however we experienced such poor hospitality, I don't think I can let it go without saying something. At the end of January, friends and I visited Jarlshof which is located right near the Sumburgh Hotel. It was raining, cold and windy. After taking in the sights, we hoped to grab some lunch at the Sumburgh Hotel Lounge. Unfortunately, it was after two and lunch service had finished. This is when we encountered the only rude person we met during our entire visit to the Shetland Islands. The good news for the Shetland Island folks is this person was not a local. She had an accent, maybe Italian. She briskly told us lunch was over at 2 pm. Although it was only five after two, we said we understood this but asked if there wasn't anything at all, maybe even some crisps or bar snacks we could have. She seemed very annoyed and said, "all we have it soup". A warm bowl of soup sounded great to us. Then, rather than seating us in the warm lounge, she ushered us out to a sort of sun porch type of area, which was unheated and very drafty and cold. We asked if we could eat in the dining room and she said "no, lunch is over." But other folks were still seated inside and more came in a took seats while we were shivering on the porch like unwanted step children! The barman, who was very friendly to us, seemed somewhat embarrassed by her behavior. I don't know what had happened to that woman before we showed up to put her in such a mood, but she definitely took it all out on us. We ate our soup, which was very good by the way, and left. Otherwise the hotel seemed nice. As long as you don't meet up with the rude woman, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Had 2 lunches here. The first we arrived at 2.02 pm so we had missed the kitchen closing by 2 minutes :( However we were able to have soup and sandwiches which was reasonable compensation. The next time we went we were within kitchen operating hours and luckily there were no cruise parties - so not nearly as busy as previous time, Then had a much more civilised lunch with good fish and chips.

The menu is excellent and caters for all tastes. The service is very quick and the staff exceptionally helpful and friendly. We’ve been there on many occasions for evening meals.

Food at the hotel restaurant is very nice. Portions might not be large enough for a lot of people but was adequate if you are having more than one course. Prices are reasonable too. Booking in advance is important. Friday and Saturdays can be very busy with locals having a party so again book your table as soon as your planning a visit or stay in the area.

We arrived two minutes before their 9:00 pm closing because of a delayed airplane but they were happy to seat us and serve us. I had fish and chips; the fish was a big piece of haddock and well-cooked: crispy on the outside, moist on the inside.

Fantastic value for money, great food cooked while you wait, they say breakfast sets you up for the day well the large breakfast will keep you going all day and more. It was the only place open when the boat comes in at 7.00 but was an oasis on a dreich morning, superb.

Right by the ferry terminal so the ideal place to wait for a crossing. This is popular with workmen and with families. They serve a wide range of food and drinks. From snacks to full meals. From breakfasts to afternoon teas. I enjoyed a coffee and a tray bake. Would have called in twice more during my visit to Yell but it was closed.

It’s more of a good cafe than a restaurant and it is also a caravan and motorhome site plus wigwams ( colourful wooden weatherproof huts). It’s at Braewick not Brae which is 15 miles south. It has all the facilities that a caravan/ motorhome site needs. Electric hook up, drive over drains, black water disposals, clean water available, good parking surfaces. Problem is it takes a bit of finding these facilities! Even the pitches take a bit of locating as only a couple are numbered. All the rest have been washed off, blown away etc. The showers are looking old and are difficult to manage. There is a playground and the beach is 5 mins walk but bear in mind this is 1000 km north of London, nearest neighbours are Iceland and Norway so the water is refreshing. But the views are spectacular cliffs of red rock and in the sea a set of rock stacks (the drongs) look like a Viking longship turned to stone. Wonderful to look at at midnight. You might see Foula, 40 plus km away. There are blow holes through the cliffs, take care. The Northmavine musicians play at Hillswickplus informal dancing for a great night out but it’s a 5 minute drive or an hours walk. Great place just needs an update.
