I suspect the Silverfjord is not long for this world. The dining room was freezing cold , half of it set up for breakfast. It also appeared to be a pub with no beer - I had their last can of Doom bar, the only non-lager option on offer. It was also served in a novel way - the unopened can dumped in the top of a pint glass. I made the mistake of ordering the 'home made' burger, I am not sure what it was made of but I don't think any cows were harmed in its making. My wife's fish and chips was OK, but came with no peas, just a piece of torn up lettuce. Chips were cooked ok, though. We didn't stay for dessert, we were in and out in just over an hour, £37 poorer and wiser.

Truly the worst meal I’ve ever experienced in my life. Phoned to book a table and was told we could only have 6:30, but when we arrived there was nobody else there. Ordered a bottle of red wine and we’re given a “British” red wine made from imported South African grape juice. We couldn’t open the screw top bottle at first but when we got into it we found it was like the worst grape juice you’ve ever tried. It was as if the barman/waiter had never heard anyone ask for wine before and grabbed a fake bottle off the shelf that was made for display. The glasses were dirty. I ordered the macaroni as thought anything else might be risky given the cleanliness of the place, I wish I’d just walked out at that point. What I was served was a tin of Heinz macaroni and some raw potatoes masquerading as chips. My partner tried the macaroni and straight away agreed it was tinned - it’s such a distinctive taste that we both remember from childhood. He got the scampi and was served some generic, back of the feeezer scampi which he said was edible, but again with raw chips and a wilting salad. Unfortunately the radiator behind me belting out 30 degree heat in the height of summer, the congealed sugar bowl from breakfast and the stray dog running around the dining room didn’t do much to improve the atmosphere. The most shocking part was that I paid £37 for this experience just to get out of there as quickly as possible. I can’t say enough how disappointed we were with this place after reading such positive reviews and looking at the menu online. The real life experience is the complete opposite. Just don’t go, trust me!

Shabby but not chic. Had eaten here 5 years ago and it was fab but not a patch now with a very restricted and unjustifiably pricy menu. Nothing to write home about but the young lady who served us was great.

You can tell the Silverfjord has had better days. The decor is very tired and jaded. Due to Covid the actual menu offered is 40% of that on their website. Having said that the waitress is really their saving grace, very friendly and helpful. Being a Sunday they were only selling a roast dinner, which was very filling and not bad value. Pub grub really,ok but not exceptional.

We (me, vegetarian wife & 10yo son) ate here during a recent trip to the area. We really struggled to get a table reservation anywhere nearby and ended up in the Silverfjord. My son's breaded chicken was very good, but the rest Chicken Sizzlers & Veggie Curry was ok, but pricey. My breaded mushroom starter looked like it was straight out the freezer, and the desserts were average and certainly not worth £5.75 each. The service was however efficient and friendly. Would I eat here again, very unlikely.

We had dinner here as two families of 8 people. Approaching from the church car park, the building, quirky name and modern font of the ‘Silverfjord’ promised a more stylish setting than what was presented as we entered through the bar. As others have noted, the decor was rather shabby and the dining room felt very much like the back room of a bar rather than a restaurant in its own right. The Coco Pops left out on a table and tinsel on the antlers on the wall added to the feeling that the proprietors didn’t care about the customer experience. That said the young lady that served us was attentive and friendly. Sadly one of the 8 meals (a fish dish) was sent back as it tasted off. Also the steaks were not brilliant but the burgers were enjoyed by the children. We benefited from the ‘eat out to help out’ scheme but we felt the meals would have been quite overpriced at their menu prices.

This is just a little pub in a small village, the prices were over the top and the food was under the counter. We found the service poor to the point of being ignored, our meals were badly prepared and took forever to arrive and the prices were ridiculously. They were serving Co-op best wine for three times the Co-ops prices. This is a very quiet, small country pub with aspirations of being a gold mine, actually it’s as dirty as a coal mine. You are a crappy pub with crappy food, stick to what you know.

We are here yesterday evening because we saw they had lamb shanks on the menu. Well if it's the last thing you ever do you have to try them. They were to die for!! Served with mashed potato and mixed vegetables and a fabulous gravy, all of very generous portions we ate till we were ready to burst. A meal worth every penny of the £14.95 each. The staff were lovely and the Chef was very friendly and came and had a chat with us. Wish we had discovered this hotel earlier in our holiday.

A very mediocre room, uncomfy bed, with clunky springs and very basic en suite. However, this was a pretty cheap room, although breakfast would have been extra. Thus, it was value for money so no real complaints. If you want cheap accommodation then it is recommended. One big gripe. You couldn't have breakfast until 9.00am midweek. This is far too late, but there is a very good cafe on the main street in Kingussie which opens at 8 and does super, well priced breakfasts. I forget the name.

We headed here as the other pub in town had no food, football or customers. The Silver Fjord did have football, it did have customers but the Chef had gone home for his own tea at 7.45 on a Tuesday night.Barman was decent, poured a decent pint of Black Gold under my tutorage. Decent wee local to have a pint in, although no cast ales. The chicken sandwich from the COOP made for a romantic dinner.

Very noisy as room next to bar and front door of hotel. The people coming and going talking very loud and then banging the front door closed every time. Even people at 6am did it too. Room ok not great. Beds horrendous very lumpy and hard. Bed bases had visible large dampness/wet marks. Would not stay in this hotel ever again. Nobody mans reception - had to wait till 3pm before could get in to hotel all doors locked and after a long journey needed a coffee and toilet but had to wait. Then in morning at 8am when leaving again nobody about so had to just leave keys on reception desk. Breakfasts not served till 9am so hotel looked desserted at 8am. Very disappointed.

As no chef at Tipsy Laird we were advised this was only other option. We were a bit apprehensive as despite this once being the best place to eat in Kingussie several years ago we have had a couple of bad experiences more recently due to a couple of changes in ownership. Despite there only being 1 other person in the bar we we’re directed to a sad and tired looking dining room. We were extremely put off by the appalling standard of decoration, the owners are clearly avoiding the major renovation the place needs and makes you question what their standards are like in the kitchen.

A group of four went to the restaurant tonight for a meal and were all very disappointed with the meal and the service. Staff were noisy and shouting at each other in the kitchen and at the bar. Sizzling chicken was overcooked and did not taste homemade. The fish was very overcooked and had been deep frozen. The cheesecake was not cheesecake at all but a slice of sponge sandwich cake and the sticky toffee pudding had been microwaved to within an inch of its life! It was dry and very chewy and flooded with sauce in an effort to disguise its inadequacies. All in all a horrid meal.

Was suggested this place as a place to have dinner as it was close to where we were staying. The place is , in my oppinion rather boring with a mix of styles that doesn't go well together. We might have been unlucky but we all had an upset stomach after having dinned here. I was further more unlucky haven been served a hamburger with plastic. The chef came and excused for the incident and offered to make an other burger, but my appetite was gone. He also told me that I wouldn't get charged for the burger, but when I got the bill it was on the bill. I mentioned to the staff what the chef had said, and the we got a new bill, where the burger was off the bill. The service seemed inexperienced. I would not recommend this place.

Ate here recently when visiting the area. We had been for a long cycle so we were looking for a good meal to re-nourish ourselves. We were in for a big disappointment! Understanding that it was under new management we thought we'd give it a try (had eaten here a few years ago with previous owners and it wasn't great so never ventured back). On arrival it looked fine but smelt damp (ok the building had been flooded a couple of years ago why still the smell?) Ordered drinks at the bar and after given menus, we sat down. By the time the drinks were delivered we had looked through the disappointing menu (freezer to deep fat fryer style) we were committed. Thinking that they couldn't go wrong with fish and chips and to walk out and find somewhere else would take time and we were starving we opted for that. Whilst waiting for our food I was able to take in my surroundings. The decor was very shabby and the flooring from the bar to the kitchen was dirty and torn - then I spied what I presume to be the chef in his socks - no shoes! When the food arrived it was as I imagined, a pile of black and white chips (strangely very white potato with black skin) and a pre-formed piece of fish. It was watery and tasteless. It came with a salad garnish which I normally eat but after eating the odd-tasting piece of tomato I left the rest. Before going we swithered whether to have a sit down fish and chips in the local chip shop - wish we had.Would I eat here again? not if you paid me!

Service as has been mentioned before is friendly and efficient. I can honestly say every member of staff want all their customers to feel welcome and enjoy their experience. Rooms are excellent value as well, cosy and comfortable with tea and coffee facilities which I like, no biscuits though but for the price of the rooms you can't complain. (The onion rings were excellent but I was too slow to snatch a piece of the rest of the main course).Chicken Curry: Diced Chicken Bound in a Curry Sauce Served with Basmati Rice, Poppadom and Mango Chutney.Cajun Chicken: Butterflied Breast of Chicken Coated in a Cajun Spice. Served with a Lightly Spiced Tomato Sauce and Salsa Rice. (I had a bite cajun chicken and wished I had ordered it as my main!)All of the above were truly excellent and at such a modest cost I still cannot remain surprised. As to the other facilities of this hotel I shall have to post again once I have visited again - probably in April/May

Good pub food and friendly service. The atmosphere was cosy, without being too quiet. All it now needs is some real ale back on tap. Bottled Black Sheep was lovely, but I missed having the local Cairngorm ales.

This was a place that some people staying at the same B&B had used before and were thinking about using again so was very disappointed to see that it was shutdown.

Best steak I have ever had. The staff were amazing. I usually have my steak well done and the lady who serves us persuaded us to try it medium. She promised it would be the best steak ever and, if it wasn't, she would give us it free of charge. She was not wrong, it was amazing! Highly recommend a visit!

Went to this restaurant on the recommendation of the owners at the B&B we stayed at in Kingussie. The restaurant was lovely and intimate, but the service could have been better. It wasn't busy, but we waited for a long time just to put our order in. I think they didn't have many service staff and seemed they were mostly in the bar area. The food was lovely once it arrived. Overall definitely one of the nicer restaurants in the village.

Great food- coeliac friendly options available without compromise on quality or choice. The staff are very friendly and capable. Was part of a large party and the food all arrived at the same time, hot and beautifully presented.

We had a lovely meal here on unfortunately the last night of our stay in Kingussie. The food was excellent very high standard gastro pub/high class restaurant, interesting and varied choices beautifully presented. We ate in the bar area which was very contemporary and cosy, the restaurant area didn't look quite as nice but to be honest we didn't see it properly. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the service was excellent , if only we lived nearer we would eat here every week! It isn't your average Scottish village pub, there are enough of those in Kingussie it was nice to find a better class place in such a small village.

I ate here on my last night in Kingussie and I wasn't disappointed. I had two mediocre dining experiences elsewhere in the village and the food here was absolutely delicious. The bar is stylish and cosy with the open fire. It was quiet when I visited (the weather had turned!) but had been busy when I'd walked by on previous occasions. The man behind the bar was welcoming and chatty and the chef clearly knows what he/she is doing. The menu is refreshing and makes a nice change to standard pub grub. This would be a lovely place to eat with a partner or group of friends/family.

The menu is limited. The prices are rediculous. This is a village pub that doesn't cater to the village. They don't even have rooms anymore

After a long walk in the snowy hills and an exhausting day, we needed some great comfort food and a good beer. The Silverfjord delivered on both. We ate the gorgeous Venison burger while sitting next to the fire, and chatting to the locals.

We arrived in Kingussie yesterday and was recommend the Silverfjord for food. The bar was modern and welcoming, with an open fire and great music. The menu was a pleasant surprise and not your usual basic pub grub. Instead they have opted for modern gastro style food, similar in style to anything you would find in a big city pub. According to their own admission they aim to "use food locally sourced and within season", and you could tell the ingredients were all fresh and cooked to order. There was a slight wait for food, however they were very busy on the night and the complementary bread filled the gap. There was 5 of us and we all had something different. We all were very impressed. The staff were really friendly and we have to pay special mention to Claire our host for the evening, who was very welcoming. Very tasty real ale from local brewer Cairngorm. Overall we would 100% recommend the Silverfjord if you are looking for modern, contemporary cuisine in a local pub setting. A real find.

Tried to go to the tipsy laird but when we got there it was shut, so wandered around in the snow until we found this place. Didn't look like a restaurant from the front, but once we found the bar it looked lovely, the barman was friendly and the menu, although expensive, sounded amazing! The complimentary bread was delicious so we had high hopes. I ordered the venison, and my partner had the beef. We were sadly disappointed with our food; the venison and red cabbage were nice but the granola that it was on was just plain wierd, and the swede wad horrible - completely undercooked! My partner's beef was pink in the middle but somehow really tough!Overall a disappointment, considering this cost us £50, would not go back.Perhaps they should work on making the quality of the food reflect the high prices, wacky combinations are not enough!

Interesting sounding menu that seemed to plagerise the gastro trend without substance.Things like choriso in a burger in Scotland is a play on words , using the pun of locally sourcedUsing the fat from Spanish sausage as to natural sourcing is silly.Dessert options were typical trendy without taste going for looks as to flavour. The table setting needed a google maps app to find my way around which would have made any Madre d proud but in a pub come on.In their defence Claire and Joe have good intensions but the airs and graces that came withThe small portions dotted sauces and swirls may work if your open kitchen is dry aging their own proscutto but if I can't see it and tastes like another squeeze bottle squirt no thanks

visited the silverfjord with friends to celebrate our birthdays and chose our meals from the lunch menu. Two of us had the Sunday roast and one had the fish course. afterwards 2 sweets and 1 cheese board washed down with a bottle of house wine. portions on the small side, price on the large side as the bill came to nearly £90. pricey for a 2 course average pub lunch for 3 people.

We stopped here on the first night of our holidays. The food was fantastic but don't look for large plates of basic food. It obvious that the Chef takes pride in his selection and preparation of the food, as the presentation and tastes were fantastic. Not the cheapest and not the fastest service, but I would recommend to anyone who wants to have a quite special dinner. The hosts were fantastic, as it was one of our friends birthday, and they gave him a complimentary drink of his choice, and from the Hugh selection of whisky's they have it too a while to chose. Great food in a great location.

We ate at the Silverfjord Restaurant in Kingussie tonight and yet again were so impressed by the high standard of the menu and the food. Although it is a limited menu of about five choices for each course we found it difficult to order as all the dishes were tempting, mixing ingredients that were a bit different but which went together superbly. Everything is cooked to order but while waiting we were brought a board of 3 kinds of bread with butter and a mixture of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. My starter of beignets were filled with Strathdon blue cheese and served on puréed celeriac with caramelised walnuts and raisins. My husband had carpaccio of beef with pine nuts and rocket which was equally delicious. For main course I chose the lamb - 2 pink ribs of a rack, tender confit of belly, large roast garlic cloves, a few triple cooked chips, chicory and slivers of Parmesan and chopped pistachios. Interesting, unusual but complimentary flavours. My husband had salted hake with walnuts and served with a cheesy potato brandade on a crisp crouton topped with olives and slivers of al dente cauliflower. We did not have a dessert but looking round they appeared to be just as good as the first two courses. The wine was reasonably priced too. We overheard other diners complimenting the staff on the quality of the food. It is unusual to find such wonderful, food in a small Highland town and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an excellent meal,at a reasonable price in Speyside.

We had planned our weekend trip from Edinburgh to Grantown-on-Spey and had spent sometime reviewing restaurants along the route before finally booking Silverfjord. After three hours in the car we were all ready for a good meal, kids had come straight from school so were starving! The staff are really nice and friendly and the place is clean and had a good atmosphere but we were so disappointed with the food....what happened in the kitchen?....it was awful! maybe it was the chef's night off? The two kids meals of fish fingers and also pasta were just about ok but the mains at £12/15 per plate were simply inedible and so bad that much was left untouched. Being terribly British we didn't have the heart to complain but really it was such a shame, we ended up getting a picnic in the nearby co-op and eating on the rest of our journey to Grantown.....come on Silverfjord you can do better!!

The Fish and Chip Shop is in our experience is without a doubt the BEST IN CAITHNESS AND SUTHERLAND! The fish was white and flakes. fried in beautiful crispy batter and the chips were perfect. We have experienced other Chip Shops in Wick,Thurso and Helmsdale, plus Mobile Chip Vans in Lybsterand Dunbeath and this has been the best so far too. We travelled around 30 miles to eat here and would do so again. THANK YOU.
