We stayed on Hogmanay in the motorhome aire (which is just £10 and great) and joined the Hogmanay celebrations at The Barn. I have to say that it was the loveliest and most welcoming place and we had such a lovely time, great food, live music and great atmosphere. We also came back for breakfast which was also excellent. I suspect that this may be our new go to place for New Year (but don't tell everyone!). Loved it, thank you for being such a fab place.

Had high expectations for food after reading reviews, however, left sorely disappointed. Staff are absolutely lovely, friendly and good banter. The pub itself is traditional and has a fantastic atmosphere! A 2 piece band called Atlantic Reel were playing for a few hours and were really really good! Three of us had food and have to say the steak pie wasn’t good. Lots of meat but not a drop of gravy, with a puff pastry lid. It was so dry I couldn’t eat it. How the chef thought that was acceptable to send out to a customer is beyond me! Buttermilk chicken burger was dry and burnt and very greasy in a soggy untoasted bun - ate half of it and left the rest. Coleslaw and salad was good but you can’t go wrong with that! Hopefully the chef was having an “off” day as we would return for the atmosphere but definitely not the food!!

We did stay at Airds, having been once before many years ago. It has changed hands twice since then and is very different. The guest lounge was rather airless and largely unoccupied during our stay. Our room was comfortable if a little dull, on the ground floor looking onto the car park at the side of the hotel and accessed through the small bar and two difficult small fire doors. The bathroom will benefit from a couple of twin hooks for towels, which I recommended to reception when I left. The bed had a 15 tog quilt! It was as if we were in the Arctic - admittedly summer has not arrived this year but we felt pinned to the mattress and reorganised with other covers we found in the wardrobe! The dinner on the first night was lovely and we were joined by our daughter. The food was tasty and generous and the service was good. The second night was not in the same league. The food was not so good, and the service was dreadful with a very long wait. We understand there was a breakdown in communication between server and chef. I did tell the hotel how I felt and I am sure they will be turning things around as soon as the staffing levels can be fixed. Everywhere is having shortages at present.
