We enjoyed 2 great breakfasts and 2 fantastic taster menus on a 5pm DBB deal. In the morning, a wide selection of cereals, juices, fruits and hot options awaits. Free-range eggs with runny yolks competed with herby sausages, sliced haggis, smoked bacon, and Stornoway black pudding. Very good first impression from the chef - and the service team could not have done enough for us.Impressive standards rose at night with both taster menus, with 3 standard courses and 3 tasters. In short, the imaginative and impressive presentation of all 6 delicious courses on both nights left us wanting more. Notes on wine recommendations, artisan bread and citrus-infused water were very impressive touches. In line with the ship emblem of Argyll, the food was solid throughout where crab mousse would be followed by a haddock tartlet, an espresso cup of squash soup, rib of beef with tarragon mash, sticky toffee pudding and brie. In short, fantastic dishes that hit all the rights notes, and delivered by a very friendly team.Even better was the second night, where a scallop wonton in lobster soup was followed by sweetcorn soup, loin of lamb, rhubarb tart and the crowdie cheese plate.Enjoy!

Good restaurant a little further out on Oban’s waterfront, serving conventional, traditional dishes and seafood. We popped in as a couple for a dinner on a special occasion and it was great for an unfussy, quality meal without being particularly exciting. The decor is a bit of a subtle mix of hunting lodge and nautical, but is basically warm and unpretentious. Being a hotel, when we visited there were a lot of residents scattered around, which made us feel a little out of place, having dressed up for dinner! The restaurant is at the back of the hotel so unfortunately doesn’t have any views over the harbour, but this wasn’t a deal-breaker for us (there’s only so much rain you can watch). There is a relatively sedate a la carte menu offering seafood and a selection off the grill, but we plumped for the six-course tasting menu. This wasn’t really a “tasting” menu in the sense of lots of small dishes to nibble at, that will fill you up by sheer weight of numbers. Instead, it is a proper three-course meal with three additional mini-courses. So, pretty filling!Almost everything we had was good, from the gravadlax to the rather naughty black pudding-stuffed chicken and even the tablet to finish. The only let-down was the crab linguine, which was a sort of thin, weak soup with some pasta resting unhappily in its depths. Not sure what they were trying with that one! However, the prices were very reasonable and we left very satisfied.Presentation was lovely and service was genuinely excellent, from friendly and attentive staff who were only too happy to help a couple of tourists, despite it being a relatively busy evening for them with the regulars.Worth a look if you’re looking for a solid meal a little ways out of the bustle of the centre of town.

I had the oysters to start and they were lovely and fresh. I really enjoyed my chowder main course. My partner said his steak main course was very good, although not top notch, and was a very plentiful portion. My son, who is a chef, enjoyed the langoustine starter but was not so keen on the scallop main. The service was good. All in all a very good meal and not too expensive.

This is the Oban Bay Hotel restaurant where we had dinner on two of the nights of our 3 night break. The 6 course taster menu was lovely and adequate for older folk like us. Second night we had the main course from the ala carte menu and the portion size was huge. We paid the small supplementary charge. Only complaint from my husband was that the mussels were not available either night we dined though there seemed to be an abundance of all shell fish available in the many restaurant and stalls in an around Oban. All staff very efficient and friendly and helpful.

We were staying in the hotel so are in the restaurant on the first night. The service was good; friendly and attentive staff and the good was delicious - we both had the sirloin steak as a main, my boyfriend ordered pepper sauce and didn't touch it because the meat was so perfectly cooked. Would stay in the hotel and eat at the restaurant again.

Friends were staying at the Oban Bay Hotel for a few nights and we joined them for dinner one evening. The hotel has a splendid view of the Bay, across to the isles of Kerrera and Mull, and this view can be enjoyed to the full from the conservatory where we had coffee. But unfortunately the dining room is towards the back of the building and misses out on the views. The food made up for it, exquisitely prepared and served. I had steak (I have had steak here before and enjoyed it) but my wife opted for the six course special. It was a very pleasant evening. At £55 plus drinks it would have been quite pricey for our budget, but fortunately our Tasetcard reduced that amount by half.

We had Sunday lunch yesterday and were well impressed. They are currently offering two courses for £9.95 or three courses £12.95.We had the choice of soup or pate, roast turkey or beef with vegetables, yorkshire puddings and thick onion gravy followed by sticky toffee pudding or icecream. The food was really nice and homemade but our only complaint is that there was far too much! It was great value for money. The service was also very good.

I have just spend three enjoyable days at the Oban Day Hotel and the highlight this New Year was the Rannachan Restaurant. The quality of the food was very high and the service from the staff was secind to none. All food was cooked to perfection from the full breakfast to the evening meal and served by the best friendly staff I have experienced in a long time. For the three days we were the quality and quantity never dipped. If you are ever planning a trip upto the North West of Scotland I would highly recommend that you consider booking into the Oban Bay Hotel and try thier full breakfast. Particularly their combination of black pudding and haggis served with bacon, egg and sausage. If you get the opportunity I would recommend that you try the haggis starter. It is wonderful. Although the staff work long hours they are always friendly and helpful. From the Receptionist to the waiters and waitresses in the restaurant to the Bar Staff and all other staff. they are a testiment to Darrel the Manager.

Travelled from Bristol to Take advantage of a Buyagift Plc Afternoon Tea Experience. But their Afternoon Tea was awful. The expected delicate sandwiches would have disgraced a builder's lunchbox: thick cheap sliced bread, including crusts, containing cheese & tomato, and poor quality ham. The cakes were sickly and some stale. Cream for the scones, but no jam. Not just ourselves, but the same for two elderly ladies before us who had had the same treatment. Staff friendly, but brought us even more doorstep sandwiches when we complained! The expression on our B&B host's face, when we said we were going to the Oban Bay Hotel, said "Why?" Now we know. Don't go there.

I call it Debbie's place - you'll know it when you see it! - said several of the locals on Islay. A large group of us visiting the island had spent the morning dotted across it doing various different activities. I'd asked in the brilliant Islay Natural History Trust where locally we could grab lunch and was directed to the Bruichladdich Mini Market. The place itself is run by Debbie, her mum and her sister. It's the ort of place that is the lifeblood of islands the world over - half grocery shop, half cafe - all welcoming. Debbie's sister was in charge when a group of 15 of us rocked up unannounced. This would normally not have been a problem - plenty of outside seating - but that particular day the ferry had been cancelled, along with much of the stock for the shop and cafe. Undeterred the staff there made us feel welcome and pulled together a lunch which went down very well with all - children and adults alike. Think sandwiches and toasties with great coffee and a good choice of cold drinks. They also serve some amazing cakes - I'm told the rocky road was fab, I know the chocolate cake was! Although initially under pressure when we all turned up, the staff seated us happily and we had all eaten within about 15 minutes of arriving.
