The Waterfront Fishouse Restaurant in Argyll & Bute

Great restaurant. We had thr two course meal for 21 pounds. I had a really generous serving of mussels as a starter and the salmon fillet as the main. Overall the restaurant has a great view and ambience. Friendly staff as well and at 21 pounds you really can't complain. Only a 4 star as my Salmon was a little bland but the quality was definitely there.

Staff was not welcoming and rude. The whole time my group and I felt rushed to order and eat. Food was good, but service could have been better.

Service was quick, food also came out very quickly after ordering. Waiters friendly and welcoming. Nice views out into the ferry terminal. Was surprisingly busy for a Wednesday night but after trying the food we understood why it was so popular - it was delicious! Prices a touch higher than the average but it was a nice treat meal.

Had nice lunch here today . The salt and pepper squid with pork belly was excellent , lovely fresh squid and a whole strip of pork belly . The scallops grilled with black pudding were also excellent, one gripe it was a bit stingy on the black pudding , a whole slice on each shell would be better . Service was excellent and efficient, toilets spotless . Would recommend

It’s not the best, not the worst, just okay. Food was okay, I have a few allergies that they accommodated but they used Soya in a lot of dishes. If you have a soya allergy I would look elsewhere because you can only eat less than 25% of the menu! Service was average as well, food waiting time was quick, so I give that a plus.

We dined here on holiday in Oban. Every meal was absolutely delicious and a great selection of seafood options. The view over the marina was lovely as the sun was setting and we had a great service experience. We found it reasonable for the quality of food we had. Recommend the king prawns, squid, sea bass fillet and mussels!

Visited on 15 March for supper. Mussell starter was lovely, husbands scallop and venison starter was cold but he didn't complain. I would have. Unless you are having a salad, there is nothing worse than a cold plate or cold food. My main meal, venison burger and chips - arrived, plate cold, burger cold. I mentioned it to staff. As they took it away they said they would change it. My husband asked if they would take his away to keep it warm so we could eat at the same time. Mine came back exactly the same. Same burger with the bits out where I had tasted it. Still cold only this time it was even colder, plate still cold. How hard can that be? Husband's plate was roasting, the way it should have been. I explained again that nothing had changed with my meal and another member of staff asked if I wanted something completely different. Having been in the restaurant for about an hour or more, my appetite was gone and the experience already wasted. We asked for the bill for our drinks and the food we had ate, which we got and paid for. Not much of an apology, in fact, I don't actually remember the word sorry being mentioned. Got the impression that they didn't really care which anyone in the hospitality industry will know is not a good attitude and certainly not good for business.. We were so looking forward to our meal, it was my husband's birthday and instead of booking our favourite Oban restaurant I decided to book this one for what I thought was going to be a lovely changed. We won't be back and wouldn't recommend to anyone. Such a shame.

Very good special and a wonderful view.

First class sea food! You can tell that they have access to first rate fresh fish and supplies. The venue itself is located on top of a warehouse and the inside is not very atmospheric. The staff is friendly, discreet and well trained, which is a rarity these days.

The food here is fantastic, and the waiters are attentive and friendly. I ordered the steak which was cooked to perfection. At the time of eating the steak and included sides was £28, which is very reasonable considering the quality of the dish. I opted to add some scallops onto the steak for an additional £12, and to my surprise I was given 2 scallops which in my opinion is ridiculous considering the price. I mentioned this to the waiter who said he'd mention it to the kitchen. Looking at other reviews the kitchen have been pulling the same scandalous scallop shennanigans for a while now. I would have given 5* if it wasn't for the scallop to GBP ratio being all over the shop.

Having heard so much about the quality of this restaurant only. To be very disappointed after having travelled for two hours only to receive a very expensive mediocre meal. First course was excellent only to be followed by a very expensive £28.00 overcooked dry halibut. Service was good and all staff were pleasant. Signage for entrance/exit/toilets was very misleading. Note the 10% added service charge which is added automatically and not clearly shown on the menu. All in all a very r experience disappointing

All just ok, not bad, not amazing. Price was fine for early evening meal. I’d mark higher had the seafood been what I was expecting (amazing - considering it’s right on the water and in the seafood capital of Scotland). It wasn’t bad it was just like every other mussels chips and bread I’ve had (again this was a tasty meal it just wasn’t wow) and the calamari was slightly chewy. Portions were good and staff nice however the restaurant wasn’t that busy and the staff wanted to seat the guests they did have close together so felt like I was at the same table as strangers, I didn’t enjoy. It’s not only this place that does this it’s just a small bug bear of mine.

Amazing staff, brilliant atmosphere. And quite possibly the best meal me and the partner has ever had. We ended up getting a starter a main and dessert each. The servings were perfect size, and each was done perfectly

We arrived at 1 PM and managed to enjoy the best dishes the kitchen has to offer before they closed at 2 PM for a break. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful—they even saved me £12 on ScotRail parking charges. Legends! The service was outstanding, as I mentioned, but it’s worth highlighting that the chefs and their creations were equally impressive. I tend to trust open kitchen setups more, and The Waterfront Fishouse Restaurant reinforced my preference. The presentation and taste of the food were spot-on. Sitting by the window, I got to enjoy not just the delicious dishes but also the stunning views this place offers. We both absolutely loved it. I was pleasantly surprised by their excellent selection of wines. I’ll make a point of visiting this place again whenever I pass through Oban.

Excellent location. Fish n chips were a bit oily but cooked well. The other dish was excellent.

Food was delightful! We had ordered from the set menu that is available in the afternoon, which is great value for what you get. The staff are inviting and friendly, including the chefs who spared us from entering the wrong entrance 😆. I would recommend going before 6pm, as the restaurant can get busy. Plus, you van get favourable seats!

Visited this restaurant at the end of a day trip to the Isle of Mull. The restaurant was very busy so I was glad we booked. Restaurant was very helpful in letting us push our booking back as our ferry was delayed. I went for the halibut dish which was gluten free and really delicious. Portion was large as well. My partner had fish and chips which were just okay which was a shame. We also enjoyed a gluten free sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was very nice. Nice ambiance and good service. Lovely view over the water.

Very good seafood restaurant. Scallop and Mussel starters were excellent. Deluxe fish and chips wasn’t fantastic but still, not bad. Halibut was ace. Still my fav seafood place in town (with the exception of the seafood shack beside it)

A very enjoyable lunchtime meal, made all the better by the empathetic manner of the staff towards my wife's chronic food intolerances (Coeliac and dairy), which was hugely appreciated. If only all restaurants were this good. Recommend.

Couldn’t fault the food a little bit over priced for what you got small portions On the whole worth a visit maybe just the once

Greeted on arrival and service was good, except for the girl on bar that was polishing cutlery and throwing them into the container. Coming from the hospitality sector this is a NO go for my staff the noise was ear piecing especially as the music was so faint. The toilets where not to good standard 3 toilets with no toilet roll and the disabled/ baby changing toilet was dirty and hand dryer didn’t work. Over all food was ok but very overpriced.

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. While I understand the time limitations on New Year’s Eve, the service felt unreasonably rushed and unprofessional. We were only given 1.5 hours for our meal, but instead of handling this with grace, our server made the entire experience feel hurried and stressful from start to finish. The tables were very small, so we preferred to order in stages to avoid overcrowding. However, our server insisted we place our entire order at once, despite the limited space. As expected, when the food arrived, not everything fit, and the food runner seemed visibly annoyed as he had to rearrange our table to make room. We ordered a full dining experience—pre-dinner drinks, a bottle of wine, appetizers, mains, desserts, and after-dinner cocktails—clearly investing in a special evening. Yet, while we were still enjoying dessert and sipping our cocktails, the waitress abruptly came over with the card machine, entered our total, and presented it for payment without asking if we were finished. I was still in the middle of my dessert when she snatched my plate away without a word. To make matters worse, I stepped away to use the restroom with half of my espresso martini still on the table. When I returned, I discovered that my dining companion had been pressured to vacate the table, and my drink had been cleared without giving me the chance to finish it. We spent £250 for dinner for two people, and the service we received was rushed, dismissive, and far below the standard you’d expect for that price. The lack of care and professionalism left us feeling unwelcome and undervalued. I would not recommend this restaurant and certainly won’t be returning.

We went to Waterfront Fishouse on one of those stormy evenings with lashing horizontal rain and raging seas crashing over the sea wall, so would have been happy just to get inside anywhere. But WF did not disapppoint. It has a basic décor with the feel of a traditional seaside eatery, where the food is by far the main attraction. As starters we had a platter of oysters (some grilled, some raw) that were much appreciated, plus a house salad. As mains we ordered deluxe fish and chips (haddock, sea bass and king prawns), sea bass fillets and vegetarian ravioli stuffed with exquisite pumpkin puree and laced with a smoked cheese/chestnut sauce. Everything was well prepared and tasty. We left feeling well fed and with warm feelings.

Booked this for party of 5 at short notice in late August on a family visit to Oban. From the moment we walked in the staff were very attentive, went the extra mile to find us a table with a view, and made us feel very welcome. Food was delicious and cocktails well made. General Manager Laszlo Kovics was a great host, stopping by our table several times to check on us. Highly recommend if visiting Oban.

This cozy spot is beautifully decorated for the holidays, creating a warm and festive ambiance. The service was friendly but a bit slow. We started with the mussels and scallops as appetizers, and they were fantastic. The mussels were plump, flavorful, and served in a generous portion, while the scallops were incredibly fresh with a perfect, delicate texture. However, the entrées didn’t quite live up to the appetizers. We would have loved to see more seafood options on the menu. That said, the restaurant offers an extensive lunch menu with plenty of lunch specials to choose from. The holiday cocktails and wine list were solid, featuring a good variety of options to complement the meal.

When arrived had such a nice atmosphere, but the food did not live up to our expectations. When I explained the issue it was verbally dismissed by management. Problem was resolved by removing the item from my bill (fair enough) The whole experience left me disappointed.

Just not very good. Nice place, friendly staff but the food was a let down. Been numerous times but afraid wont be going back. Overpriced for average "pub" quality food. Doubt it was freshly cooked. Shame but they need to improve quality and portion sizes. Xmas is a time when they can/do charge a premium but it should be their chance to attract me back throughout the year. In the past it has but not this time. Shame.

The food was excellent and the waiter was extremely friendly and helpful. The 2 course meal for £22 is a fantastic deal! The quality of the food was excellent and the view was beautiful. Highly recommended – a must try!

One of the best restaurants I have ever visited, hands down! We came across this place by chance on our journey through Oban, but what a treat we had! The freshest seafood, amazing decor, fantastic service, and great value for money! What more could you want? The clam chowder was out of this world, and the mussels were incredible! Great size portion also! Highly recommend! It’s worth visiting Oban just for this restaurant!

Had the trio of fish well presented and delicious, my good lady had fish and chips. Fantastic! will definitely be back . Staff were lovely, efficient, Polite and very professional.

Food was OK. Chowder was kind of bland. Salmon was good. However, green olives and salmon do not mix, no idea who came up with that but noooo. Ambiance is nice. Early bird dinner special ok price (22 pounds pp for 2 courses)

We had a wonderful dinner of mainly fishes and seafood. Service was quick, polite and efficient. Everything we had was very tasty and the wine was great. It's nice to enjoy fresh seafood in Oban.

Superb food. No question of that. Lovely setting inside and looking out on to the quayside and ferry although there appears t be no chance of a window seat unless you book in advance. Depends where you’re sat the tables could be a bit too close together for comfort. The choice of music was a bit bewildering featuring occasional rap and dance style. Didn’t fit the ambience at all. Maybe we were more aware it being under a speaker. Something easy listening would have been more appropriate. Other than that couldn’t fault the food and service.

What kind of resturant refuses business? On the 22 October 2024 I tried calling on multiple occasions to make a booking for a large party. On each occasion the phone was rudely picked up and put down immediately, on the 3rd occasion it was picked up and left on the side so the phone was open to the sounds of the resturant and most questionably the sound of the staff laughing. Unacceptable behaviour from what is meant to be a well respected resturant.

Best restaurant in Oban by far, and we went twice during our short break in town. The menu is interesting and varied, with the freshest seafood being cooked to perfection. Staff is welcoming, professional, and really friendly. Thank you guys for the wonderful meals, we had the best time, and we hope to see you very soon.

Went here for dinner with my husband and my parents. Food was great (although my mum was a bit disappointed in the salmon) and the atmosphere was lovely. We initially felt well taken care of but once we had our mains we felt very forgotten. Once we were finished, it took about half an hour for someone to come and clear our plates and then only because we finally caught someone's attention. When asked if one of us could take the remains of their meal home we were told they don't have a takeaway license, which I've never heard of for a restaurant of this standard. We left feeling disappointed which was a shame after a lovely start to the meal.

Planned to have dinner but all full. Finally booked a lunch in the restaurant. Great service that we can sit next to the windows finally (do remarks in the booking but not guaranteed). Relaxing place as we were early with not too many people around in the restaurant. Foods are all over average. But I believe dinner menu maybe more suitable for myself.

This is one of the very best fish restaurants we have ever eaten in. Great location near the ferry terminal, staff were very nice and the place was packed as expected given the food. Trio of fish dish was excellent, as was the cod. Highly recommended.

For a seafood restaurant, we would like to have shellfish... Starter ordered, sorry Sir we have no more crab, for the main course sorry Sir no more scallops... I don't come here to eat a steak! Served in avalanches, no time to swallow a mouthful of one dish, the next one arrives. Very noisy....

I’m not certain what was going on but the service was terrible. Our waiter disappeared - we looked for him - after we sat for a while a while after having finished our meal. We went to the host stand and asked for service. A few dishes were cleared. We went and asked for the bill which was delivered. After sitting for a while with the credit card out we finally went for the third time to the host stand and paid.

Delectable food cooked to perfection. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Had a nice view of the harbour. Just wish the beers were bigger.

Service chaotic and no apology for is being kept waiting for over an hour since our booked time without as much as being offered a glass of water. Food was lovely when we eventually received it. Toilet arrangements also very odd.

Food was good, we were not super impressed with the steak. For £30 it was very chewy & not enjoyable. The haddock & mash was not fresh & we were not that happy with it either. The restaurant felt over booked and very loud. The staff felt out of control a bit. The restaurant views though are nice

Great restaurant overlooking the water, the port and the arrival of the ferry. You have to go to the 1st floor via a staircase to reach the dining room. Very good cuisine. Beautiful establishment.

Exellent restaurant. We were four good frinds and had Langustine, Oysters, Mussels and fish and chips. Their staff was very service minded and friendly. We are from Iceland and grew up with fish of high quality. We can confirm that the fish they serve here is of the best quality 👍🇮🇸

I loved it here to have my dinner

I had dinner with my family one day during the week. The place was full but they made room for us without a reservation (it was early). The manager was super attentive and friendly, he even spoke some Spanish which also helped. Regarding the food, the mussels were spectacular, 10; The burrata and pasta were also very good, the trio of fish (scallop salmon and a white fish) seemed a bit low for the price although the flavor, especially the salmon, was delicious, the scallop dish with vegetables and potatoes was very good done and the worst for me was the tiger prawns with curry, overcooked and with a spicy touch that made you not know if you were eating prawn or anything else. For dessert we had the toffee pudding, also highly recommended. In general, very good service, quiet and good atmosphere to go with family or as a couple and the food with more lights than shadows. I would return!

Fantastic lunch of sea food. The mussels were fresh with a lovely sauce, and the trout was delicious. Prices were reasonable, and the staff were polite and helpful. Just one niggle. We would prefer to tip the staff personally rather than having it added to the bill !

Our second visit to Oban and third visit to the Fish House. Excellent in every way. We booked two weeks before arriving in Oban. We met a couple leaving the restaurant and they said you have got to eat here the food is excellent. We already knew this hence our return visit. It was so hard to choose what to eat. The menu had so many delicious items. The fish was beautiful, so fresh, delicious and beautifully cooked. Our server was friendly and very knowledgeable regarding the menu. The restaurant has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the view is amazing. We will definitely be going back again.

A large restaurant right on Oban pier. There was an extensive menu including venison and beef but you’d be mad not to have the fabulous fish. We had smoked haddock chowder to start and salmon with pesto and Parmesan crust, absolutely delicious. They have a lunch time menu of 2 courses for £21.99, very good value. We also saw an Italian couple have the sharing platter of fish and shellfish, and the staff moved them to a table for 4 to give them more room! Staff were really friendly and made everyone welcome. Only downside for some people was a very steep staircase to get into the restaurant. Possibly no disabled access.

A restaurant specialized in fish food, with a hard working, friendly staff. Delished food and fair prices. And a real bonus is the view over the harbour.

Excellent address! Both the starters and the main dishes and their house cocktails, everything was delicious and we were very well received by very friendly waitresses. It is recommended to reserve your table in advance (at least during high season).

Excellent dinner here during one day stay in Oban. We didn't have reservations but they could seat us for late dinner. While waiting we walked up to McCaig Tower and along the boardwalk which was very pleasant.

It is better to book for dinner, we had a long wait. Pleasant and available waitresses as well as the manager. Delicious salmon trio! Everything looked really good anyway.

I'd happily dine here every week if I could! It's our go-to for a seafood dinner. The 2 courses for £21 (or £22?) is dependable and they don't scrimp on the quality for this menu. They have a specific gluten free menu which includes the battered haddock and fish tacos. Service is always very friendly and professional, the interior is cosy, and if you are near a window you get a good view of the ferries coming and going.

This was a good restaurant with great service and nice atmosphere. Food was great but it overshadowed by the seafood we got from Seafood Hut right outside this restaurant. I ordered oysters and Oban 14yrs. Thinking oysters would be as good as the ones from Seafood hut. But it was just another average oysters. The ones from seafood hut is fatter and milkier, and you will taste the freshness. The one i got from here were at the edge of they should be serving… and X 1.5 price higher… Nonetheless I enjoyed our dinner with my family very much. The main server who sounded like he is either Italian or Spanish? was an amazing host, so as other ppl who help us our dining experience. Thank you so much for your service!!
