When open (it has now closed permanently); it was a great wee eating house! We went there often. It will be sadly missed, used by many locals, tourists and organisations as an affordable restaurant.

On holiday and popped in for some food late in the day today. Found the staff very friendly and the food was served quickly. The meal was really good and there was a range cakes to choose from for those well-earned desserts. Whilst there, the diner did receive a lot of custom with quite a few people popping in for takeaway cakes and drinks. I suspect this is a bit of a local legend. Highly recommended.

Visit this wee gem everytime we are staying in Dunoon, and are never disappointed. I had one of the best Beef Curry I have ever tasted,it was beautiful. Found this delightful Cafe after we stopped for petrol, just tucked behind the garage. Very pleasant decor with all COVID precautions in place. The menu was very good with lots of different meals & snacks on offer. We all ordered a different homemade option & everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The prices were extremely reasonable & the staff very friendly as were a couple of older local ladies who we had a lovely chat with.

Staying locally and had passed this several times throughout the week, always looking busy and decided to get dinner here on our last night. So glad we went when we did as it hit a busy spell after we ordered - some people not prepared to wait the 1hr and had they been nearer I would have told them waiting was worth it. Fantastic value for money and good home cooked food. Empty plates all around(2 children left some chips as was decent portion). Staff were friendly and were constantly serving food or clearing tables.

After years of visiting Dunoon we have been served here many times however, we arrived Saturday 12th June 2021 and came to Sheilas diner for breakfast and we were met with appalling attitude. We appreciate that things change due to COVID and are aware of the stress staff can be under but that does not give any excuses to be spoken to in a rude manner. As doon as we walked through the door there was no warm welcome it was “can you do your track and trace and i can only serve one at a time so you will have to wait”. We let this go. However, we returned again on the Friday 18th June and again the attitude was disgraceful. We were told to sit down and they would take our order but people were coming in after us and getting served. Twice i went to get up to order and was met with an attitude and told to wait my order would be taken. Im still waiting… One of my friends went to get up from the table and was snapped at and told to put his mask up. This relative has emphysema and finds it difficult although tries to follow guidelines. Bottom line is we wont be back as long as the same staff are working there… good food appalling customer service.

We’ve been visiting this area for 25 years and the last two visits to this place have been so disappointing. On this occasion the staff were so unwelcoming and rude, and made us feel uncomfortable. You would think that after lockdown we’d all be so happy to see people coming back! As soon as they knew it was a takeaway they couldn’t have cared less, it was as if it was an inconvenience- presentation can be seen in the attached photo.

Popped in for a late lunch today after long walk with the dog. Sadly the woman serving my sister in law was incredibly rude to her entirely ruining our experience. She had taken the menu outside for us to look at and wen ordering gave back to the waitress who said “I’ll just put that back on the table to took it from then shall I?” Karen was embarrassed and offered to do so and apologised. Then the waitress told her “you might be eating outside but u better bring the plates back in once you finish” food arrived which was pleasant but the same waitress served us with no cutlery and no eye contact or smile. Felt entirely awkward and left with a bad taste in our mouths. Real shame as food was good. Doesn’t cost any extra for common decency and service with a smile. Horrible woman. Probably having a bad day, however that should not be cascaded down to her paying customer. Would think twice before giving them our custom again!

However I saw another diner who had been served battered dish, chips and peas and it looked just the job. Needless to say I ordered the fish and it tasted just as good as it looked. This is my first visit to this breathtakingly scenic area. Mum and I were feeling a little peckish and as the Diner bears the same name as one of my mum's closest friends, we thought we'd pull in and try it out and send Sheila a photo! From the outside, it's nothing spectacular, and on in the inside, not exactly luxury,,,,, but the proof of the pudding was certainly in the eating!!!!! Mum and I ordered mac and cheese - simply perfect!!!!! (Looking around while we waited for our lunch, I noticed that other travelers were enjoying their very generous portions of homemade servings). As we finished up, I saw through the kitchen doorway a lady making meringues....... and although we were quite full from the lunch, but I just had to wait for those meringues to be baked.....Oh WOW!!!!!!!!....... I really can't find words to describe them..... the BIGGEST and BEST I've ever tasted. Mum and I shared one (haha.... we don't usually share desserts!!!) Mum and I will certainly be returning to Sheila's. Not only was the food delicious and well-priced, but the staff were friendly and welcoming, too. If you're out and about, don't by-pass this wee place.

Popped in here in way to accommodation to try. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Place isn't luxury but comfortable for some decent food with a relatively extensive menu that would cater for both adult and children. Portion sizes are good and I found prices reasonable. They also do daily specials where you get a soup of the day along with a main course for £6.95. If you love home baking the cakes are amazing. You must try the meringue. Be warned it make take a whole day to eat it. There enormous. The choc fudge cake is a choc lovers heaven. Sheila's diner also does a take away service if you'd rather take back to your accommodation which has the same choices as you would sitting in but a bit cheaper. Personally it's a great wee place which serves good home cooked meals with great value and price. If you want a slightly more restaurant experience the Cot house next door would be for you. We will definitely return

we visited the diner and really enjoyed the food. the table was overflowing with food. had far too much and couldn't fit in a cake. Turned up the next day but it had just closed. Not to worry we will be back for one of those giant cakes in the future. Service was good and we felt welcome.

Food is ok, absolutely no atmosphere. Please try some music. It was like eating in a waiting room at a local hospice.

I call it Debbie's place - you'll know it when you see it! - said several of the locals on Islay. A large group of us visiting the island had spent the morning dotted across it doing various different activities. I'd asked in the brilliant Islay Natural History Trust where locally we could grab lunch and was directed to the Bruichladdich Mini Market. The place itself is run by Debbie, her mum and her sister. It's the ort of place that is the lifeblood of islands the world over - half grocery shop, half cafe - all welcoming. Debbie's sister was in charge when a group of 15 of us rocked up unannounced. This would normally not have been a problem - plenty of outside seating - but that particular day the ferry had been cancelled, along with much of the stock for the shop and cafe. Undeterred the staff there made us feel welcome and pulled together a lunch which went down very well with all - children and adults alike. Think sandwiches and toasties with great coffee and a good choice of cold drinks. They also serve some amazing cakes - I'm told the rocky road was fab, I know the chocolate cake was! Although initially under pressure when we all turned up, the staff seated us happily and we had all eaten within about 15 minutes of arriving.

Visited to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The setting on the shore of Loch Fyne overlooking the ruin of Castle Lachlan is stunning and we were able to enjoy a bottle of fizz outside our shepherds huts where we would be spending the night. After a late afternoon stroll to the castle ruins we were ready for our dinner. The tasting menu served in the evening is locally sourced and is probably the best I have ever tasted. We chose the wine pairing which was excellent and presented beautifully. After a great nights sleep breakfast is delivered to your accommodation and this is another delight. Cannot fault this place
