Absolutely fantastic! It’s been a very, very long time since I’ve had battered Hake and this was wonderful… just the right balance of super fresh fish and crisp hot batter, my husband definitely enjoyed the battered Haggis.. good quality Haggis with a light coating of batter .Everything was fresh from the fryer and worth every penny

Over rated fish supper claims to be 3rd best in Britain no where near it. £17 for a take out fish supper is a joke I scared to ask for a pickle in case it was an other £5 wout not recommend

Rick Stein was right about this place! Best fish and chips he'd ever tasted. The vegetarian haggis is beyond good - simply fabulous too. Quick service with smiles, somewhat crowded but that gives it a good vibe.

One of the best fish in chips we had in recent times as far as we remember..first of all location is all it matters. The restaurant is located in Oban which we found out to be such a nice town and worths to be seen. Food great, prices ok.... A bit hard to communicate with the staff there due to obvious reasons. 😂But , by the end of day I received what I ordered so at least they understood my English. Recommended.

Very popular and busy chippy but lots of good quality freshly caught produce deep fried in crispy batter. The king scallops were huge and delicious if a bit sacrilegious. ☺️

the old lady who took our order was so rude! she was the one who made mistakes, and for some reason I was the one apologising. I asked for the receipt for my mum, all she has to do was to the outsider and give it to me, but she acted as if I had asked her to kill her dog. she had not an ounce of patience and looked on the brink of storming out. the others on shop floor seemed nice enough but she was the real memorable one. food was meh. don't get the large chips because I came here last year and the box was full to the brim. this year, not even half way. also, greasy. pay 50p for the basics of tomato or mayo.

We had a haddock supper to share. The portion was adequate for lunchtime. The chips were amazing! No grease or mush. They were perfect crisp and dry just how we like them. The battered haddock was fabulous too a lovely flavour to the batter and the fresh fish was perfect. 10 out of 10.

Food is decent, but way overpriced. Like it was nothing special. And you had to pay extra to get ketchup on your 4+ pound chips.

After seeing the sign stating #3 in the world" I thought I have to try. Chips were good...fish was fresh....size of portion very small for a adult's portion. I noticed after the gentleman cut the fish he pressed down on it with the palm of his hand...trying to make it serm larger before frying!!!!!...hmmmm

Best fish and chips I have had in a long time. The fish was as fresh as can be, meaty, juicy and deliciously cooked in lovely batter. Everything was cooked order and clearly all at the right temperature as nothing was greasy. Chips were yummy too.

Good chip shop. We stopped in on the way back from the ferry and were very happy with our meal. Sells all the things you think about when going to a chippy in Scotland. Battered Haggis, Black Pudding and Pizza! The less unusual food was great too.

Oh my goodness ...where to start. Myself and my husband were in Oban from Glasgow and decided to stop here for lunch after seeing it was voted 3rd best in the U.K and Rick Stein had said it was the best Fish & Chips he had tasted. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by server Joanna who was so pleasant and smiley. Nothing was too much trouble. I decided on Fish & Chips and hubby had battered Smoked Sausage & Chips. I ordered coleslaw hubby had mushy peas . The food was absolutely AMAZING . It was by far the best I had ever tasted anywhere. We asked for our compliments to be passed on to the fryer . He actually came to our table and introduced himself as Sammie. What a lovely man. He thanked us for our feedback and was such a genuine guy. We will 1 million % be back there and definitely recommend it every time. Wish I could have it delivered. Actually didn't eat for rest of day .

Overpriced , poorly cooked swimming in grease, quality locally sourced fish which is a shame . Accompanied by under cooked saturated greasy , soggy chips followed up with a side potion of the thinnest watery blandest gravy I've ever tasted #bisto . There's better fish at cheaper prices in farmfoods #birdseye . I hope this honest review catches the eye of the owners and they buck their ideas and standards up . It's not rocket science , it's fried fish and chips .

Possibly not the best quote from Rick Stein as he has several fish venues around the world and by saying that it was the best F & C's he's ever tasted doesn't say much for his own, I'm not a chippy goer by nature but what I had tonight was as good as I have had, crisp lightly battered fish, crispy chips and a bottle of Beer Moretti (bought from Morrisons just a few doors away, they don't charge for BYO) Well Done Oban Fish and Chip Shop

It was ok, nothing more. Picked because of the high scores but it really wasn’t anything memorable £18.50 for one regular Haddock and chips and a 500ml bottle of coke. Not great value. Restaurant was pretty cold inside too with most people keeping their costs on.

An unplanned visit to Oban brought us past the restaurant and with a Rick Stein recommendation how could we resist? Delicious, large plate of chowder which was full of fish followed by a regular haddock and chips. There was nothing regular about it: it was enormous. No matter where you think you will get good fish, it won't be as good or as freshly cooked. 12 out of 10

Two of the greasiest fish suppers bought this afternoon. A pity as I have eaten here for 20 years and have rarely been disappointed. I won't take a chance here again, I am afraid.

I saw so many amazing reviews so had to try this place but I think maybe they were having a bad day- felt like I was intruding and the fish wasn't so fresh. The tartar sauce was fabulous though and the location was easy to find.

Popped in for some take away on Friday night, will not go back, even from the off you are not made to feel welcome. The young gentleman behind the till with a moustache is most unpleasant and not welcoming, you are made to feel like an inconvenience. Customer Service training is required here I think

Explored oban today, visiting various beautiful sights around the local area, as well as checking out restaurant menus and sitting areas and their kitchens when possible. I checked out multiple chippies, and upon entering this establishment my party of 4 all agreed this place was perfect. The cook was preparing fresh haddock and cod when we entered, inspecting them and preparing them to be battered for incoming orders. It all seemed very sanitary and other customers food all looked very appetising. The cook was quick to check if we're looking to get takeaway, or to sit in and eat. We of course informed him we'd be sitting in, and he informed us that we'd have to wait at least 10 minutes as the seating was full, and there was 4 of us, but we happily waited after seeing other people's food, and the way everything was being prepared. We waited roughly 10 minutes, a couple did enter and stand infront of us seemingly hoping to be seated first, but we weren't forgotten and got sat down first. The staff are lovely and friendly, as well as very helpful and informative, as I was unsure what the soft drink Firefly was, and also wanted to know the difference between the Haddock sizes are. A large Haddock is actually one and a half Haddock which seemed to big, so we got a single Haddock supper each. The Haddock arrived with a perfectly light and crispy batter and the Haddock itself was fresh and meaty - absolutely perfect. It is served with a slice lemon. The chips came perfect as well - crisp coats with a soft potato interior that had a great crunch. The mushy peas had seemingly been seasoned and tasted really good.

We were looking for a fish and chip shop and walking past we recognized this as one reviewed on Australian TV as being one of the best. We popped and it certainly didn't disappoint.

As someone who is egg intolerant I had done many hours of research into restaurants in Oban where I could enjoy fresh fish grilled not battered and deep fried. I have seen many photos on tripadvisor showing photos of beautiful grilled fish, mussels, all sorts so I thought great we will go. How disappointed I was to arrive early Tuesday evening to be presented with a menu that I kid you not didn’t have an item that wasn’t battered! I asked the very young waitress if they offered grilled fish or anything not battered. Yet she confirmed that everything was battered! According to the menu even the steak pies are battered, surely this cannot be true! Please don’t go here unless you want fish n chips traditional style as there really isn’t anything other than that choice and ignore any pics you have seen historically on tripadvisor and Google suggesting this place offers anything other than cardiac inducing battered food! We went to George Street fish n chip restaurant instead and enjoyed food as advertised.

Ignore any previous pics of this place if you want anything that isn’t battered as doesn’t exist! We went on a Tuesday evening and I am egg intolerant and was looking forward to maybe some mussels or smoked salmon starter and some lovely grilled fish for mains as all seen in previous reviews and pics from people. Well just to be clear these pics are old and they do not serve anything now that isn’t battered! And according to this menu that includes the steak pie! How is that even battered! If you want fish n chips fine but that’s all their is and nothing else so keep away and go to George Street chippy if you want proper food

Visited here yesterday as we always do when in Oban, walked past a couple of other fish & chip shops to get there but wished we hadn't bothered. Our food was disgusting, reheated god knows how many times. Ripped off!

Delicious haddock and chips. The haddock was fresh and well-fried, and the chips were crispy. Service was excellent too - our waitress was friendly and made sure we were well-tended to. Definitely a place to come to for fish and chips if you are in Oban! (Do note that tartar sauce is separately chargeable.)

Really disappointed in our experience here. The fish was nice; we chose Brill, as both pescatarians so know our fish, which was nice, but nothing more. Chips were Meh. Seriously underwhelming. Macaroni cheese was nice, but again, just nice. Have had better fish & chips...

Absolutely fabulous haddock and chips with mushy peas. Not greasy, lovely batter. Mac and cheese had by daughter made with creamy red Leicester cheese - delicious. Dog friendly too which was a winner for us. We sat in. Highly recommended.
