I entered the pub just as it opened on Sunday, so plenty of seating was available. The young barkeep instructed me to “Take any table, we’ll get menus to you.” After about 10 minutes, my husband joined me at my table and I mentioned that the group that sat down after me had already been approached by waitstaff. My husband raised his index finger to try to get the attention of a young waiter who was walking past and studiously avoiding making eye contact. The waiter came over and gruffly berated him, telling us that the previous night he’d not served any of the people who called him over like that. He had such an attitude that after we placed our food and drinks order we both Googled “is an index finger hand signal offensive in Scotland?” Apparently not. Turns out the waiter was just surly. I ordered the scallops in a blue cheese sauce, but they arrived with garlic butter. That was probably a better choice, the blue cheese would have overwhelmed them. They were very tasty, but the scallops had not been freed from the shell, and I was surprised to have to cut them myself. The sweet potato soup of the day was excellent, however my onion ring order was forgettable-- they were factory produced, recently emerged from a frozen bag. My husband had the sourdough baguette with chicken mayo filling, and the soup from the Light Lunch menu, and really enjoyed both. The food was good and the menu had some nice offerings… but the service was mediocre. Actually, no, the service was bad, the place seems like it is run by children, and one with an immature attitude. Too bad the adults were not in charge of lunch on a Sunday.

The vegan food here is excellent, in fact best cauliflower wings (buffalo) that I’ve ever had. Perfectly battered and cooked. The veggie burger was yummy and easy to eat because the bun was squishable. I enjoyed the cauliflower/broccoli wraps too, they were nice and warm. Side salads were all lovely too. Thank you for having at least 5 vegan options on your menu Markie Dans!

Brilliant atmosphere here and food was delicious! They take dogs too which is a bonus

Too small and crowded. The sausages I took with mashed potatoes had : caramelised onions=sweet,a mustard honey gravy which was more honey...so again extremely sweet. Totally against my food habits... I gave 3 stars cause I liked the beer...

Fresh food great place for food lovers and a pint great view & value for money

Mediocre burger, nachos appetizer with melted cheese and really badly made Mexican sauce (and it takes a lot). I absolutely don't recommend it for the food, at most for playing a game of pool and spending time with friends while sipping a beer.

Food was good, I visit every year. The view outside is so nice.

Been here several times over the past couple years for lunch, each time we visit Oban. Great food (the chips are amazing), reasonably priced, lovely views over the water from outside seating and staff always friendly. Dogs always welcome too.

Lunch on the terrace. Beautiful view, pleasant staff. Very good value for money. Pub food, simple but good. You won't leave hungry.

The food was average, but I was glad to find lots of vegan options. I got the vegan Buffalo cauliflower wings and my partner ordered Buffalo chicken wings. Neither order had much Buffalo sauce. But the dressing on the side salad was delicious!

Great views. Perfect place for a beer on nice days.

The pub itself was great. We went in due to the selection of whisky being served. However, despite having a massive whisky list, having someone employed who openly says "oh you guys again, right point to them on the menu and I'll find them" and then later say "I don't know anything about whisky" doesn't bode well, hence the lower service score.

Food was amazing served quickly by very friendly staff ,plenty of room for our 2 dogs to sit beside us and water served to them straight away too will definitely go here again when back in oban .

We had a really great friday night! The steak and Guinness pie was very good. The live music and athmosphere were great. The staff were very service minded and friendly.

A very lively pub with decent service, never had to wait despite being busy. Loved the atmosphere, wish there were a few more Scottish beers but at least had a nice selection from Fyne Brewery in bottles. Stays open late to - hooray!

Great food and service, nice pub atmosphere, and quite reasonable prices. Ordered hamburger, fish and chips, meat pie, all delicious. It’s a bit of a regular crowd, so that says something right there, I would definitely go back. We got in w/o reservation, but it would be a good idea to make one if you plan to go.

Nice pub, watched European Championship football among partly tourists and partly locals. Nice atmosphere.

Stayed in Kings Knoll ahead of a business trip nearby which doesn’t do food but nice hotel. What can I say, Carling available….yes I know I should do Tennent’s when in Rome but Burton’s finest is good for supping on the road. Had the Scotsmen Burger which was sensational, flavoursome and big portions to boot. Staff were friendly and attentive, got asked how my food was at least twice which in my experience is a dying practice nowadays. Staying over again tomorrow and I’ll be back.

Nice pub with typical pub food, all good. Service was good and overall this is a good value. There is a park lot next door.

Excellent service as always. Lindsay runs a good team. Kate was very attentive. 10/10 . We come here annually to celebrate our wedding anniversary, we love the place.

No trip to Oban is complete without a visit to Markie Dans, we had a great night in a place that I can only describe as one of the best pubs I have been in for some years. Worth the trip to Oban just to come here again.

Good food, with some decent vegetarian options, very good selection of drinks. The staff is courteous and efficient.

Typical pub in a smaller town. The food is also very good, but you have to wait a while. However, this was already communicated before ordering (approx. 40 minutes).

What a great little find to round off a day of drinking in my favourite town in the world. Hidden underneath an innocent BnB and open till the early hours. Been coming to Oban for years yet it still manages to throw out some welcome surprises! (Unable to provide food rating as on alcohol consumed)

Pretty decent food - Mac and cheese was good, bao buns were tasty but dough a bit dry. Had a table outside on a nice day so didn’t really spend any time inside but would visit again next time I’m in Oban.

Superb staff give there best under huge pressure as this place is v popular the hadcock thermador is to die for we stay in Corran house every your on Motorcycles the price is great the room veiws are amazing the staff are excelent it's over a lively bar which if fun if you don't like house friday saturday night may not be for you but we love it this is my idea of heaven 2 night's left roll on next year .... thanks to all of the staff the self service food area which works on an honesty system the cleaning staff the bar staff we love you guys n girls ... we would not stay anywhere elce ... kind regards Ses Triss & Chris .. the old blokes on the bikes 🏍 😎

Staff so friendly and made everyone welcome. We enjoyed the food , good pub grub and good portions .

We arrived on a busy Friday night. Everyone there serving was super friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. We got fish and chips, and mac n cheese. The fish tasted fresh and the mac n cheese was so delicious, you could tell it was a homemade roux cheese sauce. Would highly recommend trying it if you are in Oban.

Kept kitchen open so we could have dessert thanks to the staff!

Beautiful scampi with a very light batter.

We had the homemade Steak and Guinness pie. The steak was tender, the sauce savory, flaky pastry crust, veggies and molded mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes we cold, though we just added them into the stew sauce and were fine. Followed by their sticky toffee desert. Great atmosphere. Authentic pub style

Pub with a musical and festive atmosphere in the city, lots of people but fast service, basic British dishes but a little too greasy... it does the job nonetheless... here we come more for the variety of beers 🍺🍻

Didn't eat here, we were just in for a drink. Good choices and reasonably priced, and the service was great and everyone seemed in a great mood which can sometimes be hard when working in hospitality. Everyone was having a good time and free juke box on a Tuesday...my idea of heaven 😆

Sadly, the roast was a bit tough. Everything else was wonderful.

The place was great, and I was super excited that today, Sunday they would have English Pot Roast. The place was great, but the actual meat was so tough that I almost couldn't eat it. 😫 The veggies, potatoes, and Yorkshire pudding were super great! My husband Mac in cheese and fish were great.

Popular bar under a hotel. Excellent Loch Fyne beer from the one handpump. Tables at front with superb view out of the bay.

Went in for a pint. Then ended up with food and watching footy. Good food with atmosphere and great service. Will be back next time in oban.

We had burgers here (with children) during the recent Old Firm game. We were welcomed, slotted in to the big crowd, and fed some delicious food. Great atmosphere, very glad we turned up.

We had a good time in this Pub, the food is plentiful and much cheaper than us in France. The dishes are good and homemade. The staff is attentive and takes the time despite our poor English spoken. A good address ideal for young and old alike.

Great bar!! Unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to sample the food (we will next time) Played pool during the day with a few drinks And went back at night for live music. Had a blast in the bar with the locals! A few too many drinks were probably had but highly recommend it!! Look forward to revisiting

Hidden gem in Oban starter and roast dinner was amazing best ive had. Never any issues food always spot on.

Called in for a quick meal as we had another appointment. Wish we could have stayed longer. We had delicious Fish & Chips for our main. It was cooked to perfection in a lovely crisp batter. We then ordered Sticky Toffe Pudding and they didn't hold back on the portion. It was delicious 😋 Staff were very friendly and informative. A atmosphere was just right for a cold February night. Thank you to all the staff. Would highly recommend to anyone

No frills pub with relaxed atmosphere. Mixed crowd.Food was pretty good,mainly because it was fried 😉. Their beer selection was a big plus, with a nice IPA on tap.

After many attempts at getting exactly what I ask for. Markie dans were the ones to prevail. I really did get my cheese with curly fries. The service was impeccable from Megan and Paul. I will definitely be back
