We did stay at Airds, having been once before many years ago. It has changed hands twice since then and is very different. The guest lounge was rather airless and largely unoccupied during our stay. Our room was comfortable if a little dull, on the ground floor looking onto the car park at the side of the hotel and accessed through the small bar and two difficult small fire doors. The bathroom will benefit from a couple of twin hooks for towels, which I recommended to reception when I left. The bed had a 15 tog quilt! It was as if we were in the Arctic - admittedly summer has not arrived this year but we felt pinned to the mattress and reorganised with other covers we found in the wardrobe! The dinner on the first night was lovely and we were joined by our daughter. The food was tasty and generous and the service was good. The second night was not in the same league. The food was not so good, and the service was dreadful with a very long wait. We understand there was a breakdown in communication between server and chef. I did tell the hotel how I felt and I am sure they will be turning things around as soon as the staffing levels can be fixed. Everywhere is having shortages at present.

The online menu is more than inaccurate! We booked and visited tonight based on this but in reality the choice for starters and mains were probably 6 each course and choices more akin to pub grub. Service good but we weren’t offered desserts but happy to leave! Apparently change to menu has happened over last few days. We would not return

So disappointing... I was here 10 years ago when it was a Relais & Chateau hotel... ok.. it is not anymore. But we wanted to give it a try. The booking experience was quite „special" since we never received a confirmation - although we asked for it several times. We booked three nights including two dinner. The rooms are partly nice - some parts are renovated... some are not. Ok... BUT - the second night we went for dinner next door and had a lovely dinner with great service. The team of the Aird...was also there - having a good time. We came back before 11 for a last glass of wine - but no possibility since everyone was having a good time.., except the guests. Not again…

Staying at the hotel, we ate dinner. It was called fine dining, they had run out of house red and white wine to start with, then had supplement costs on items, the scallops which you paid a supplement of £6 were slightly over cooked, both of them and the beef £8 supplement both slices were very nice along with the ravioli but the accompanying bits were very small and unexciting. The other meal, the crab was very disappointing and you could not taste it, it was overpowered by the additional parts including lemon. The Cod was very small and dry, and again the velloute was so little even the spoon struggled. In short very disappointing considering the meal costing £200 plus.

For those researching areas in the world to visit based on the Relais & Chateaux designation you will be happy with the cuisine but disappointed by the accommodations, public rooms and garden areas. R & C properties typically offer old world charm and ambiance throughout the world. The Airds Hotel rooms and sitting areas are extremely outdated and in desperate need of new flooring and general upgrades to make one feel comfortable. Old dusty dried flowers, curtains with tattered edges, cracked tile bathroom floors and such. Such a tranquil spot off the beaten path in this beautiful part of Scotland could be transformed into a real destination R & C property with a complete reno and attention to detail. We appreciate the hardworking staff dealing with such shortcomings and this really should be classified as a 3 star hotel.

Beautiful hotel great amenities but price of drinks outrageous. £19.45 for a G&T and a Loch Fyne ale. It makes me wonder what guest feel about the charges for drinks. Although only in the hotel for a drink and not staying in the hotel I just felt it was a little over the top.

I have just completed a stay at this hotel and I must say it was the best Hotel experience I have ever had. The Hotel sits in a quiet village off the West Highlands and is so peaceful and tranquil that it took me away from the strains of my usual business stresses. The Hotel was delightful with such luxurious rooms and a very high standard of decor. The food was amazing. The service from the young man serving us was par excellence , a delightful young man who was so attentive to our every need. They must have the most amazing Chef as the food was exquisite. Thank you Chef. The young girl who was also serving was lovely and although slightly inexperienced she listened and was very good at sorting out any small issues. I must congratulate the Hotel Manager, Robert, on his excellence in looking after us. My only thought was the lack of staffing which I understand is not the fault of the Hotel but due to the current pandemic circumstances. If the owners would sort this issue out it would help the other staff very much.

Beautiful situation on a fine day. Comfortable and well equipped room. Everything we had to eat was delicious but we were surprised by the very limited menu for dinner. Just two choices in each of three courses and one was required to place one's order by 5pm! This is a lovely hotel but overpriced by comparison with others in the area of equivalent quality.

Despite the woes of Her highness Sturgeon, we recently stayed here for two fantastic nights. No alcohol in the restaurant (has to be the silliest Covid rule ever Nicola) but the food and service are truly second to none. The chef must be a magician as he managed to explode the taste senses two nights in a row. Not huge portions but you simply don’t need them, having travelled the world for over 15 years, I can say this food experience is up there with my top three ever. The full staff could not be more welcoming, and the drinks and canopies in your room pre dinner was much appreciated. A great experience

We were initially looking to have lunch at the other seafood restaurant on the shore but it was very busy, so when stumbled across the Airds we thought we would try there. It was very quiet, so we thought- lets try here. We were very disappointed with the over priced lunch at Airds. They tried to charge us £6 for tap water which was tepid, with no ice and the coke was warm and £4 for a very small glass. There was no side salad with the sandwiches which were very dry. There would have been a couple of pounds of ingredients but we were charged over £8 per sandwich for something very mediocre. The saving grace was the beautiful garden we sat in with a stunning view. We would have stayed for a coffee but didn't want to knock our bank balance further- we had already spent £25 on 2 sandwiches & 2 drinks, one of which was tap water. Now we know why it was so quiet!

Airds Hôtel Restaurant We were given a very warm welcome by the wonderful staff. We shown to our perfect table overlooking Loch Linnhe and the mountains. We sat outside in the hot sun and gentle breeze in their beautiful gardens well separated from the well heeled and very happy other customers. The food menu was served promptly and simple but it covered all the dishes. The wine menu was up scale and equally up priced compared, item for item, with similar wines in nearby hotels. The service was attentive and very friendly and prompt. The main course mussels were huge, big portions and very tasty. This restaurant certainly lives up to its 2020 Michelin star for the food. After 6 months lock down it was a wonderful experience! It’s good to be alive !

We stayed for two nights at the Airds Hotel, Port Appin, on their Gastronomic break. Over the two evenings we had two tasting menus, with wine flights to accompany. The first evening we had the seafood tasting menu. Being so close to the sea this was the perfect start to our stay. Oysters, smoked Salmon, Langoustine tails, scallops, and Halibut formed the menu. Each dish was expertly cooked and presented with finesse. The service was polite and attentive. The wine pairings worked well. On our second night we had a personalised tasting menu, that consisted of rabbit, mackerel, pork, and sundried tomato tortellini with a pea velouté. This menu provided a contrasted to the fish based menu of the first night, and was also enjoyable and delivered to our expectations. We found our dinning experiences at the Airds Hotel to be memorable.

Airds Hotel truly understands hospitality. The minute we arrived, we were offered tea with home made shortbread. And every moment of our three day stay was filled with similarly thoughtful touches. From the turn down service, where our pyjamas were laid out on our pillows, to the ever watchful presence of Hamish the hairy highlands cow, who welcomed us to bed each night and doubled as an indicator to the hotel staff as to whether we wanted tea in the morning (Hint: leave him outside if you don’t want to be disturbed!). On a hiking holiday, we discussed our picnic lunch wishes with the hotel staff at night. By morning, home made houmous, soda bread, smoked trout, flapjacks, fruitcake, nuts and fresh fruit had miraculously appeared to play an integral role in our Monroe bagging that day. A business call detained me in the drawing room when the rest of our party were at breakfast. The ever attentive staff brought tea and took my order during speaking breaks to ensure I didn’t miss out on breakfast. And a million other little details, like fresh iced water in our room each night, choice of 5 papers, whisky and ginger wine in our room, lovely French waiter standing by at all times, just in case we needed something. Where do I stop...I wholeheartedly recommend this exquisite little hotel in the charming village of Appin.

We were too full to be able to enjoy coffee and petit fours in the lounge after our meal. That is the only 'negative' thing we could say about dining at Airds Hotel, everything else was outstanding from start to finish. We weren't resident in the hotel but decided to book a table in the restaurant during a 3-night stay at the nearby (as the crow flies, the drive is slightly longer) Isle of Erika Hotel, where we also dined. The food was equally delicious and beautifully presented in both restaurants but at £75 per person excluding coffee and petit fours at the Isle of Eriska compared with £60 for canapés, amouse bouche, a pre-dessert and 3 courses, including coffee and petit fours, Airds Hotel represented excellent value for money given the food, very tasteful surroundings and flawless attentive service. The restaurant was full when we dined and after enjoying such a wonderful evening, that came as no surprise. We walked by, and in the window was a menu saying 'Two can dine for £39 Lunch', with a table d'hote 3 course menu below. (See photo) Silly us, we assumed you would get 2 x 3 course meals for £39. But apparently not, desserts were extra. When we queried why the bill was £51 we were told, that is' just the way it is'. We gave her a chance to refund by pointing out it said nothing about only 2 courses etc, but no go, so we had no option but to pay up, as once you have eaten a meal, you can't really do anything, it is not like a retail shop where you can leave the item behind and walk out. Shame, as food was OK but due to attitude I have no option but to rate overall as 'Poor'

We stayed at this little gem over new year. The whole place was exemplary but the truly outstanding feature was the food. We had dinner 3 nights and each time it surpassed itself. As it has 3 rosettes expectations are high but it really came through in terms of food, service and the atmosphere. Clearly much thought has gone into the menu as all the dishes were very well balanced and full of flavour - no doubt having an advantage being on the west coast. I can't pick out any one dish as they were all so good. Service is impeccable and friendly. Scotland can really be proud to have Airds and we will return. We got the tasting menu because the individual elements sounded so interesting. Usually we avoid tasting menus, because it's overdone, with too much food. Our travel agent made the grievous error of thinking that this “luxury hotel” would be good for us. First, it’s a bed-and-breakfast, and you have to like those. Second, it’s out in the middle of nowhere – – albiet, beautiful nowhere, but nowhere nonetheless. If you like that kind of thing, it’s fine, but still not great, and certainly not worth the money.

I cannot fault the food, it was delightful and I had a really enjoyable evening. The Californian Pinot Noir was delicious as were our pre-dinner drinks. I also really like the relaxing pre-dinner atmosphere and choosing of your food in the lounge prior to being shown through to the dining room as it's ready to be served. It just gets a little unnecessarily uneasy once you are in there. Ice and lemon/lime/orange do not necessarily need to be offered via tongs for a glass of water, it's as awkward for the staff to do as it is for the customer to watch. The wine is in a decanter for your arrival but surprisingly we had to pour our own all night, not an issue, but surely something that would have been higher on the priorities list than all empty plates being cleared in unison! I'm not complaining, I would eat there again tomorrow, should I be invited, but on a quiet night (Sunday) with only 3 tables in, I imagine perhaps they could encourage more by relaxing their standards but keeping the same quality of food. Congrats to the chefs and points for effort to the waiters! ps some aprons for the boys might be a worthwhile investment as their trousers can look a bit tatty!

Enjoyed a fantastic tasting menu dinner at Airds as part of a special birthday celebration. We began with drinks and canapés in the lounge including a delectable smoked salmon mousse with lemon gel. Very impressed with how Chef packs so much flavour into morsel. The amuse bouche and every one of the seven courses were amazing. Extra marks to chef for ensuring each was alcohol free due to an allergy in our party. The stand outs were the lobster, beef fillet and passion fruit souffle. The restaurant was busy but each course came at a decent interval making for a leisurely meal watching the sun set over the loch. The staff could not have been more pleasant.

We enjoyed an excellent meal in the "sun lounge " of this Scottish hotel . The food could not have been better but there were a few areas that could be improved. Our expensive pre dinner drinks took over half an hour to come, perhaps we blended too well into the lounge stuffed with too much furniture. The staff though pleasant were a bit distant and formally dressed in black suits giving a stuffy feel which could and should be lightened up. The bedroom was adequate but looked into a back courtyard which needed sprucing up therefore not offering value for the high nightly rate.

We had what is best described as an uncomfortable evening at Airds. The restaurant is stuck in the past and the head waitress ‘maitre d’ stifles the experience of the guests by applying too much formality. The staff are given continual instructions covering table requirements, how to stand in the right way and they appeared reluctant to speak when she was in ear shot. We’ve eaten in a variety of fine dining restaurants who served up excellent food with the appropriate level of formality and Airds needs to come into the present by adopting a similar approach. The food is undoubtedly good but a change of approach is badly needed.

Called in here for a late lunch in the conservatory but were given the choice of the restaurant. A great setting with fantastic views. The mussels were in an unbelievably good sauce. We both had crab cakes but these were a little disappointing. One quite firm, one runny and two rather salty. The restaurant boasts 2 AA rosettes but although service was excellent and surroundings are comfortable the food needs to go up a notch. The food is excellent both dinner and breakfast, we had the taster menu one evening which is an extension of the seasonal a la carte over the 4 days we didn't feel we had run out of things we liked. When we booked we got the last available room which was spacious it suited our needs and had all the trappings you would expect. The hotel was busy during our 4 days, they are very well organised in helping you with the options of things to do, all the staff were super helpful, accommodating and responsive to requests it's run on a very flexible basis and will fit in around you needs. Late review and apologies but it's been a bit of a busy time. Beautiful setting with stunning views and the public areas are lovely for lounging and relaxing however not so great for eating lunch. Chairs high, tables low, dishes didn't really fit on the tables and all a bit cramped. Good looking menu but here and also somewhere very close by, but my absolute pet hate, if you do not have lobster do not put it on the menu! Every time I have ordered Lobster on the west coast of Scotland with the ocean a stones throw away I order and then get told "oh I'm sorry we don't actually have it available" The food we did have was of a good standard but the waiting staff seemed pretty disorganised and not really sure what was going on despite only 1 other 2 in. Not the standard I expect from this style of place or the company with its name on the door!

I started with the Ravioli of Pork and apple which was bursting with flavour whilst my wife said the Cannelloni of Crab as superb. I went on to the pan fried bass which was cooked to perfection and went superbly with the Vanilla carrot puree. My wife had the monkfish which she also said was perfection. Finally Lemon parfait was to die for.Not only was the food so good but the service was absolutely faultless and friendly. One of the best meals we have had in a long, long time.

Really expensive fish and chips, especially for the tiny bit of fish. It was good, but there are good fish and chips everywhere. Kind of felt we were paying for starched serviettes and snooty waiter that could not be found when needed even at time for the check. Our friends stopped in for tea the prior day and it was 18 pounds per for tea, really? Really bad biscuits/scones and under achieving tea. You are kind of a captive audience in Appin, but go down the road a bit for some other options.

TripAdvisor will doubtless contain innumerable reflections on the quality of the Airds Hotel's culinary offerings and, no doubt, rightly so. As one of the UK's longest permanent residents within the pages of the Good Food Guide, it goes without saying that dining at the Airds is an experience which has been treasured by many over the years. Granted, my dining companion and I didn't enjoy the Mallaig brill as much as we anticipated we might (the crab gnocchi neither of us regards as memorable, sadly), but there was no doubting the exquisite qualities of the toffee apple souffle, and the apple and blackberry tart. Roaring log fires, sofas that feel like home, waiting staff attentive to a fault, and the carefully crafted attention to detail one expects of a fine dining experience are all part of the Airds package.Where it unravelled - and, where, possibly, we might have been less polite and more assertive ourselves - was at the point at which we presented ourselves to make the reservation, directly from a damp outing on a hillside, resplendent in waterproofs and hiking boots, to be informed, in no uncertain terms, that our "holiday attire" of "jeans and trainers" were not considered suitable for the Airds dining room. An interesting and, indeed, somewhat objectionable supposition on the part of the person in question, all the more insulting when we realised, having dressed properly anyway, that the same message hadn't been conveyed to those resident within the hotel, for many of whom jeans and trainers were indeed the dining attire of choice, as it transpired. A sad reflection on an establishment of the Airds Hotel's reputation that it's money that classifies one as worthy of eating their food rather than enthusiasm (and knowing how to behave). Or maybe we missed the sign over the door "Residents only - riff-raff keep out"...A shame, really. Quite a pleasant evening marred by an underlying feeling that we weren't considered quite good enough, somehow.

We were once again very lucky to have two memorable evening meals in this beautiful hotel. The evening starts with drinks & canapés by a roaring fire in the lounge followed by a meal in the elegant restaurant. Every course pleased the eye & the palette. Very pretty & elegant dishes which had us in tasting heaven. Can't think of another place I've stayed where the food is so good. You really must go & try it for yourselves to appreciate how first class it is. Enjoy!

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and the dining experience is first class in the most amazing setting. Dinner starts with pre dinner drinks in the lounge with canapés where you can order in a very relaxed atmosphere. Dinner was outstanding and I can't praise the quality, presentation and the service enough, the chef and his team are clearly very talented. I enjoyed the scallop starter that much I had to have it again the following night. The Airds restaurant must clearly be one of the finest in Scotland. I will be returning on my next trip to Scotland and I cannot wait. Many thanks to the chef and his team.

Dinner at the Airds hotel was an absolute joy. Impeccable service and amazing food in beautiful surroundings. Whether from a la carte menu or the tasting menu, the presentation and flavours are a treat to remember all complimented by some very fine wines. Breakfast was of equal quality and provided a great start to the day. I'd highly recommend it and would have no hesitation in going back.

We enjoyed a lunch at Airds on the way back home to the Midlands, after a week in the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. We were blessed with the weather, and the view from the restaurant was superb over the loch. The food was extremely well presented and the service was impeccable. A beautiful, luxurious hotel, that offers formal or less-informal dining options. The views and surrounding areas are some of the best you will ever see. We managed to also see some of the bedrooms at the hotel - which are to an extremely high standard, and some of them boast fantastic loch views from the bed!So pleased we stopped for lunch here. Would highly recommend.Graham and his team were so accommodating and extremely friendly

We stayed here in September in the hotel and decided one day just to relax in the hotel given the weather was not that good. We therefore took advantage of having lunch in the restaurant and enjoyed fantastic seafood in the form of lobster for myself and langoustines for my husband. Both were superb and cooked simply so as not to ruin what are already great ingredients. the staff were friendly and attentive and the seafood was quite obviously cooked by skilled chefs who knew what to do with what can only be described as the freshest and best seafood in the area. Then enjoyed a stunning pudding followed by coffee in a really relaxed atmosphere. Can highly recommend.

Stayed at the Airds for one night only. Price included dinner. The place itself is lovely and the area is beautiful. The food was amazing but the atmosphere was lacking. Our room was at the very top and was nice. What was disappointing was that half way through my morning shower with a head full of shampoo the hot water ran out. We called down to reception and within 10 mins we were told that I could use a shower in another room on a lower floor. This would not have bothered me normally but the Airds is a luxury hotel and you don't expect to have to go to another room to finish a shower when you have paid such a high price.

I emailed first to check the times for lunch as I've noticed some restaurants or hotels don't serve food certain days & Kathy replied almost immediately saying yes open 7 days a week. We decided to visit for a cream tea & wasn't disappointed. Kathy was there at the door & I thanked her for replying to my email. We had a choice of tea we preferred in a beautiful wedgewood tea service. With 2 plain & 2 fruit scones with butter, strawberry jam & fresh clotted cream. Wow it was just amazing sitting in the lush garden in the sun facing the Loch, what more can you honestly ask for. The waiter was so polite poring the tea & he was also dressed impeccable. Thank you Kathy for a remembrable cream tea ever, you must be very proud of your hotel & staff it's immaculately run, such a gem. Wish we could have stayed here, If we get chance we'l be visiting again before rethurning back to Nottingham. Best wishes.

During our four day stay at the Airds we had dinner in the restaurant three times and having stayed on other occasions we were delighted to find the quality has continued to develop from strength to strength. One evening we experienced the tasting menu which highlights the quality of the local produce to great effect. It included Mull crab, Scottish pigeon, Inverawe salmon and Dulmunzie farm lamb. The quality of the produce was excellent and beautifully prepared with excellent presentation and professionally, but unobtrusively served. It was complimented with a superb choice of wines. The relaxed and sophisticated atmosphere of the dining room together with the charming and professional service made each evening an absolute pleasure.

We were staying fairly near Port Appin for Valentine`s Day , and looked online for a restaurant for our evening meal . The Airds Hotel was advertising a Valentine`s Special Dinner on their website , so we emailed ahead using their link to say we would be coming . We had no alternative as there is no mobile phone coverage in the area whatsoever . When we arrived , we were told at the door they were fully booked , then they weren`t and could take us . We were shown into a lounge area , and given 3 menus , and not offered drinks . Then a member of staff informed us The Valentine`s Special had been cancelled , and we would have to choose from The A La Carte , or The Tasters Menu ( over twice the price ) , despite it still being on offer on their website !At this point , residents who had arrived in the lounge after us , were offered drinks and were being fussed over .When their drinks arrived , before we had been offered any , we thought , ENOUGH , and left . The welcome we received from this pretentious restaurant was about as warm as the weather outside ( minus 3 degrees )

Whata wonderful place. we came across it accidentally and booked to come later in the week. which we duly did having gotten completely drenched. It was excellent all round. can happily recommend

Stopped off here on a long road trip day, on what must have been the last, best day of summer 2015. Had heard good things about the hotel from friends, so was in my mind to see what it was like. I certainly was not disappointed.I ate from the set lunch menu which at £19 for three courses was an absolute steal. The ham hock was full of flavour, and the home made piccallili complemented it perfectly, along with the wafer thin slivers of radish. The main was monkfish, super fresh, roasted and served with risotto and the juiciest mussels I have ever had. Pudding was a chocolate delice which just blew me away.I managed to sit outside, at a table on the lawn, and had great service from the waiter who had tables inside too.All in all, absolutely perfect :)

I took my Father here for dinner as we were staying in the area. We had a fantastic taster menu which was complemented beautifully with wines to match each course. They catered really well to my Dads diabetes, with fast efficient service for all courses. The food itself was spectacular, each course working beautifully with the last. The atmosphere in the hotel was quiet (but it was a Monday evening in October!) but really friendly and relaxed. The venue itself is very pretty and set in a stunning location to add atmosphere to the evening. Overall I had a fantastic meal in a lovely venue and I will be returning!

I call it Debbie's place - you'll know it when you see it! - said several of the locals on Islay. A large group of us visiting the island had spent the morning dotted across it doing various different activities. I'd asked in the brilliant Islay Natural History Trust where locally we could grab lunch and was directed to the Bruichladdich Mini Market. The place itself is run by Debbie, her mum and her sister. It's the ort of place that is the lifeblood of islands the world over - half grocery shop, half cafe - all welcoming. Debbie's sister was in charge when a group of 15 of us rocked up unannounced. This would normally not have been a problem - plenty of outside seating - but that particular day the ferry had been cancelled, along with much of the stock for the shop and cafe. Undeterred the staff there made us feel welcome and pulled together a lunch which went down very well with all - children and adults alike. Think sandwiches and toasties with great coffee and a good choice of cold drinks. They also serve some amazing cakes - I'm told the rocky road was fab, I know the chocolate cake was! Although initially under pressure when we all turned up, the staff seated us happily and we had all eaten within about 15 minutes of arriving.
