Nice enough wee resteraunt, food was ok, It's just unfortunate that yet another wee place up here 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, has been taken over..again, by londoner's who have the money to buy a business that some locals wanted, Know the island so well,❤️. Also know that some of the locals are not happy,50/50 split.

A rare treat; a cafe which does exactly "what it says on the tin ". Welcoming and comfortable but with none of the attempts at trendiness or cuteness which mar so many establishments. Service was quick and friendly. The chocolate brownie was one of the best I have ever tasted and the flapjack was also very good. Mind the step as you enter!

Lovely little restaurant on an unusual but perfect little island- just been there for lunch. Very welcoming staff and a good range of food - I had venison salami toastie and my wife and daughter pre-ordered (an hour before) the langoustines. All the food was delicious. Good range of beer on tap (well-kept!) and in bottles. A good range of extras to take out - we took cheese scones, fruit scones with cream and jam and biscuits. Both human- and dog-friendly. A great experience.

We had a very special lunch at the Puffer on Saturday. We were visiting the island with my father who was making one last trip to see lots of dear friends. The staff in the Puffer were so accommodating to our various requests for sure to be closed, music to be turned down, tables to be moved, etc - they were just wonderful! The food was delicious particularly the wild venison salami and mozzarella toastie 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 - perfection. We had a wonderful time here on a very special day.

Arrived in a group of 9 and we all had a fabulous lunch. My wife and I had the haddock bite sandwich and a scone. The sandwich was excellent. A real step-up from my fish finger sandwiches! 😅 The staff were pleasant and even engaged in some jam/cream order research for our scones. It's obviously cream then jam. No other way. Lovely place to sit in a really special location. Looking forward to the return trip already!

We ate here on a Saturday evening during our holiday in Ellenabeich. It's a lovely little place with friendly staff & great food, especially the langoustines! I would recommend booking to eat there in the evening (they only do evening food on Saturdays) as it got very busy. We popped back later in our holiday for drinks & cakes which were equally as delicious. Make sure you walk around the island while you're there, it's small but stunning!

Absolute gem on the island with lovely staff and fresh homemade food. Would recommend and go back. They could have easily charged high prices due to being the only cafe around but they don’t it is reasonable. Lovely lad served us and chef came out asked us if all was ok. I had a venison salamis toastie with a home made minestrone soup side. Cosy and clean inside very welcoming. Yummy home made cakes too. They even make their own bread for all menu.

Food was excellent just a shame a certain member of staff has absolute no customer service skills and had an extremely aggressive manner towards my daughter and nephew when asked a simple question about the money on the roof of the pub. Such a shame as she spoiled our experience of the pub and really let's the rest of her team down who couldn't of been nicer. Date of visit 15th July 2022. Passed by a year later only for a juice and it seems the horrible attitude of the same woman has rub off on the rest of the staff. Pity really could be a nice place if the staff weren't so under trained in customer service.

Fabulous little place with a really cosy bar. We came here on recommendation and were not disappointed. We were ordered the langoustine only to be informed they were off the menu as they had a special on with the Lobster instead so we went with that and it was lovely and so was the soda bread which came with it. The wine is reasonably priced too. Deserts were great too I has vanilla panna cotta with pink apple compote and my partner had Amaretto Affogato, both were delicious. We asked if we could eat our deserts in. the bar at the back instead of the cafe/restaurant area and got a yes o course Staff were friendly and helpfu land reminded us about when the last ferry off the island back to Ellenabeich was too. Definately wowill come back here and you get value for money even with adding on the cost of the short ferry ride which was £2.50 per passenger. Please note the ferry is for foot passengers only you can park your car up in Ellenabeich

Our lunch menu had so many delightfully sounding dishes that we ended up ordering one of everything and sharing. It was hard to pick a favourite as all were delicious. Coffee and cakes to follow were super too. It was just a shame we left it so late in our holiday week to visit that we didn’t have time to make a return. Horrendous! Arrived at The Puffer after dinner, 4 friends and our dog. Walked into the bar and was immediately confronted by a very hostile/borderline aggressive staff member "Your dog needs to be on a lead!!!!" She shouted, whilst pointing at me. When I tried to explain that our dog had just sustained a neck injury and so couldn't be on a lead, but was well trained, the attendant shouted over me "Well you can't stay here then!!!!!" Slightly humiliated, 4 friends and their dog, made a sharp exit. I can appreciate house rules, and as we were staying on the island we could have dropped our 4 legged pal in our holiday cottage and returned, however I've rarely experienced being made to feel as unwelcome as we were in that pub and so we went home and drank our own beer! I'd like to think the staff member was just having one of those days, as we've all had them. Hopefully the next few customers get a vastly improved service. Such a shame.

My langoustine starter was delicious with juicy and fresh shellfish and a piquant sauce, and my cod main was perfectly cooked with a lovely polenta base and a delightful crumb crust. The service, to be honest, could have been better but I think you have to make allowances for the practicalities of running a small restaurant on a small island. My wife and I visited Easdale island in August 2020, just after lockdown was lifted, so it was a different experience. First of all the Puffer was really well organized with a queuing system, outside eating and great procedures in place. We had coffee and scones, with cream and jam and they were absolutely amazing! The scones were homemade and just delicious; I don't know if the jam was home made but it was really fruity, with a sharpness that contrasted with the sweetness of the cream! The island is beautiful but this just topped it all off! The staff were very welcoming too. Next time we go we'll go for a meal! Lovely place. Well done.

We walked straight up the path from getting off the boat and immediately found The Puffer Cafe in the left. We sat down and looked at the menu - there was a good choice of drinks and food considering it was a small establishment. It did not take long for the food and drink to be delivered - my wife had a scone which was lovely and warm and tasty - my wife said it was one of the best scones she has had. I had a panini which was great. The staff were really friendly and the views from the cafe are lovely. It's always nice going back to somewhere you gave a good review to keeping up the standard, especially if you found it excellent on your last visit (s). The first amazing thing is that an island so small should have an eatery at all. Easdale isn't exactly mainstream - you need a 10 or so mile trip down a single track road followed by a short ferry trip - and you have to marvel at how such a place can offer such a varied menu, get the ingredients in stock and come up with such a high standard. Our party of four all thoroughly enjoyed the different lunch options we chose. I had a plate of mushroom soup and a toasted ciabatta with mature cheddar and their own chutney. My wife had the open seafood sandwich and our friends chose a tasted ciabatta with halloumi and pepper and venison burger respectively. They make their own bread and each plate comes with salad and crisps. We wished that we could have stayed longer to sample the cosy little bar at the back but I'd defy anyone not to share our opinion that you are guaranteed excellence here. Staff great, building quain and furnishings interesting and comfortable.

Nice little cafe come restaurant and bar. We called in for a cake and a cuppa after walking round Easdale Island, the staff were friendly and they had a great selection of cakes and scones. Would definitely recommend

Went there for the Arabian Nights Dinner, all 3 courses (Hogget Mezze, Meatballs, Baklava) were fabulous, friendly staff, reasonably priced, lovely location on a car free island

Food is stunning with out exception. Not as kid friendly as expected given its the only pub/venue on island Opening hours could catch you out so check your opening times when you visit. Should be a queue off the island to get into this place..

Since we were last here the Puffer is up for sale and they only seem to be doing food on a Friday and Saturday night which is a real shame. We used it a few times for the bar - always very friendly and nice beer and the island is well worth a visit. Hope it finds an interested buyer soon!

We had scones and tea one afternoon and the scones were like mountains and very tasty (of course with jam and cream) We also had dinner that night and the food was very well prepared and the seafood very fresh as it is delivered by the fisherman every day. The staff are very friendly and, to top it all off, when we asked for Sambucca as a liqueur, for the first time in our lives, we were offered several flavours. This doesn't even happen in Glasgow! Well worth a visit, or 2 or 3!

Best we could find on Easdale but it would be great anywhere. Friendly staff and good food if choice a little limited. Recomend the Fyne ales ..

We visited today and had some food. Unfortunately one member of staff was particularly unwelcoming. Having recently moved very close to this restaurant this was our first visit and that was disappointing however we will give it another chance and fingers crossed it will a better experience.

Easdale is my favourite place in the world so when I manage to get here (which isn't very often) I love to pop into the Puffer. Always a welcoming smile and great cake. Do pop in if you're on Easdale.

The puffer is really an authentic restaurant. No overdone decorations, no commercial approach but an honest and clear service and good food. We had fish and chips was was great.

I call it Debbie's place - you'll know it when you see it! - said several of the locals on Islay. A large group of us visiting the island had spent the morning dotted across it doing various different activities. I'd asked in the brilliant Islay Natural History Trust where locally we could grab lunch and was directed to the Bruichladdich Mini Market. The place itself is run by Debbie, her mum and her sister. It's the ort of place that is the lifeblood of islands the world over - half grocery shop, half cafe - all welcoming. Debbie's sister was in charge when a group of 15 of us rocked up unannounced. This would normally not have been a problem - plenty of outside seating - but that particular day the ferry had been cancelled, along with much of the stock for the shop and cafe. Undeterred the staff there made us feel welcome and pulled together a lunch which went down very well with all - children and adults alike. Think sandwiches and toasties with great coffee and a good choice of cold drinks. They also serve some amazing cakes - I'm told the rocky road was fab, I know the chocolate cake was! Although initially under pressure when we all turned up, the staff seated us happily and we had all eaten within about 15 minutes of arriving.
