Our halfway point on our walk on the recommendation of a fellow camper. Can't fault at all. I had a strawberry milkshake with ice cream and fresh strawberries. The boss has baileys coffee. We both had scones, 1 fruit and 1 raspberry. Both light and straight out of the oven. Spot on.

Misleading menu says gluten free bread available but on ordering was told I couldn’t actually have anything followed by an account of why and the risks I’d be taking from an over zealous waitress. I ordered portion of chips which seemed the safest bet. On bringing them to the table she announced‘here’s your isolated chips’ WTF!! Terrible customer care, no discretion and misinformed. Left feeling like I had leprosy instead of coeliac disease. Will not be back

We didn't get ourselves organised in time for breakfast, so we had tea/coffee and scones. My raspberry and white chocolate scone was to die for, warm and fresh, and I had it with decadent cream and jam! The best thing was coming back here after 10-ish years to find that Ben Lora is just as I remembered it. A wonderful nostalgia trip.

I used to live locally and go to the cafe a lot. The food has always been good and value for money and the baking lovely. What let's it down is the manager. It is hit or miss as to how he will be on the day. If he is having a good day, it's all smiles and happiness, but on a bad day, even the simplest of requests can stir up a toddler temper tantrum. He comes across as someone that on days doesn't want to be there, so well!!!! Don't. He is bad tempered and often discourteous towards customers. His buttons are easily pushed. Tread with care. However, the wood fired pizza I the best in the area, just don't ask for oregano.

We've driven by here a few times (when we'd not long eaten) and always said we must pop in as it has a nice kerb appeal. We finally did, we were staying at the nearby Isle of Eriska Hotel and fancied a walk so headed to Benderloch and were happy to be able to break up our return journey via the nearby beach with a drink and some home-baking at the Ben Lora.As it was a hot day, we sat outside and had soft drinks. We ordered some of their tasty looking home-baking in a paradise slice and a raspberry scone. Both were fantastic and very fresh.Service was excellent. We were greeted by a very friendly young woman who took our order and in what felt like only a minute, we had our food and drinks. Yes, arguably we hadn't ordered anything too challenging but we've done that plenty of times before and had to wait 5-10 minutes. If you're into your cycling, the cafe is situated literally a short wheelie from National Cycle Route 78 between Oban and Fort William!

Yes I have already written a review of this great little cafe - and the scones are still scrumptious and the staff are helpful and friendly. But I felt I had to write again because in my previous review, predictive text kicked in and when trying to write about the scones, ‘baked daily’ somehow appeared as ‘freak naked’!!!!! Don’t ask me how - it just happened and I didn’t notice before I hit the Submit button! Apologies to all concerned. I was NOT recommending nude snacking - just trying to say that I did check and those scones really are baked daily on the premises - and they are still delicious.

Ben Lora Café - or Jimmy's as its known locally is a gem on the road from Oban to Fort William. Its Pizza night on the wwod burning oven most weekends through the season and Jimmy is head chef on those nights. Daytime its Coffee soup and snacks - all freshly made on the premises. The Scones and cakes are brilliant and the toasties and paninis are overflowing with style and taste. A busy wee place where you can sit in the sun or shade yourself inside. Maybe with an ice cream to finish! Great attentive staff will look after you - and then its handy for the beach or the mountain it is named after. Ben Lora.

You are only as good as your last dish in the catering trade and if the ‘salad’ I was dished up with today was a meter of the rest of the fare, then ‘could do better ‘ springs to mind. I ordered the chicken mayo option on the menu under the heading ‘salads’ and was presented with a plate (always a good start) which had a blob of the cheapest processed chicken breast type meat you can buy in the cash and carry mixed with definitely the most uninspiring mayo mix I’ve ever had. C’mon guys you can do better! How’s about a bit of pepper and lemon? Beside that there was a tiny blob of unremarkable grated carrot with a bit of maybe caraway and the rest of the plate was covered in Tesco mixed leaf salad with the limp bits left in and a measly drizzle of dressing. Cmon guys you can do better! This was NOT a salad. A salad can be a delicious and satisfying thing both taste wise and visually. It’s not difficult to achieve this and costs literally pennies! I gave my feedback to the manager which I felt was not taken on board and no reduction in the bill was offered (I wasn’t looking for it but if that had been a customer of mine I would have compensated them for their dissatisfaction. Cmon guys you can do better) the chips were cafe fare and plentiful and the toastie was good but came with about 4 crisps. Either leave them off or make a point of them being there, please. The service was good but I had no idea there were other things available on the specials board including other salads as the nice waitress didn’t point the board out. I am involved with the Scottish hospitality and tourism industry and when I have an experience like today’s, I cringe, and perversely am glad it was me and not a cherished visitor to our lovely country. As for catering for everyone, as the lady at the till said, that’s fine but don’t drop to the lowest common denominator. It’s insulting. Cmon guys you can do much, much better!!!

Stumbled across this cafe while on holiday in nearby Connel. Wow! What a find. On our first afternoon visit we had an ice cream float (haven't had this for years but it was just as good as we remembered!), yummy tiffin & coffee. We saw a board advertising home-made pizzas during the evening so we duly returned to try these out. AMAZING!! Best pizza ever! We had planned on trying out the scones & cakes for afters but were too full. They looked fabulous though. A third visit a couple of days later provided an opportunity to try out the lunch toasties and we were not disappointed - fresh & crispy with lots of fillings. The cafe was busy every time we visited - with tourists and locals. Everyone was made to feel welcome by all the staff. The atmosphere was relaxed and happy. Truly a gem in Scotland's crown. Small but perfectly formed! Don't pass it by. Stop and try the goodies on offer. There's a great selection of Scottish books available to buy too. Feed your mind as well as your tum!

we visited the Ben lora cafe for takeaway breakfast rolls & scones for 4 adults & 1 child & to be fair the rolls & scones were tasty, but 4 double rolls of egg & bacon plus a sausage for the child plus 5 scones & jam cost us nearly £40, a couple of days later I went in purely for 5 scones to take away & was left speechless when the girl said if you buy some tea or coffee then I can sell you them but not just the scones as we need them for our customers ( so was I not classed as a customer ) it doesn't say in the place of a minimum spend so I am left to believe that my couple of scones wasn't sufficient spending, needless to say we won't be back even though we rent every year just a short stroll away from cafe. We were exhibiting at the victory hall model show at the weekend. We fancied a proper pizza and weren't disappointed. The staff couldn't do enough AND when I asked for a cheese board which wasn't on the menu they obliged with the best one I've had for a long long time, must've been half pound of cheese. Brilliant. I would have gone back Sunday but the show ran on and ben lora was closed by the time we were finished. We will return.

We needed somewhere to go on a wet day and we had a coffee and hot chocolate which my husband declared was very good!Service was good though not many books to see and would have loved to sit at a table with a book but notices everywhere told not to do so! It was busy but whether that was due to the weather not sure.

We were staying close by and would have used this place far more if the grumpy old man hadn't soured both of our two visits. The first time we were ushered from the door area and told to sit down - when it was established that we only wanted take-away coffee he was a bit sharp with us (despite being the one telling us to sit!). Coffee was very average and milk wasn't frothed correctly - too many large bubbles. On second visit just wanted some cakes to take away and bought a couple of books too. Was told I couldn't have a scone as there wasn't any way to take the cream away. Helpful. Two disappointing experiences meant we drove a bit further and used Poppies frequently where the welcome was always far warmer. Ben Lora cafe need reminding that customers aren't an inconvenience to your business, but rather the reason for it. (To be fair however the other staff seemed lovely - the overriding image is however of the older guy who sadly left a very bad impression).

A thoroughly enjoyable evening with good food and great service. Nothing was too much trouble and everyone left with the same view. We'll go back again.

We popped in for lunch one afternoon. This being our 3rd or 4th time of visiting. There was just something wrong with the coffee. My partner tasted and confirmed it too. It just had a 'taste' that wasn't quite right.Asked the manager of it was normal coffee and he says it was. He made it. But his tone about the complaint (which I suppose it was although I was asking questions not complaining) was just off. I felt liked I was inconveniencing him. Likev what the hell did I know about coffee. He did make me another coffee and it was exactly the same. So I left it. I didn't say anymore as I didn't want the hassle. On the same visit I heard somebody ask the manager if the garage across the road was open. As it was a bank holiday he said it unlikely. But themanager actually went across the road to find that out and came back to tell the customer. So that helps balance my average review. It was a decent thing to do.Food is decent enough. But not outstanding. Lovely fresh scones though. And it is airways busy however if Lt use the only cafe in Benderloch (that I'm aware if). But we haven't been back. Just put off by the managers attitude when I 'complained'. There are plenty of places with decent food and better so why give my money to them after this experience?

My wife and I stopped here for some tea after a morning of hiking. It was a cozy, warm cafe with excellent service and delicious tea. I highly recommend it if you're in the area.

A little gem of a tea room and book shop. We visited and sat outside with our border terrier most mornings when we camped at Benderloch during July. Helpful staff serving excellent food and drink; we highly recommend their pizza!

We were a party of six and only wanted coffee, the staff were great and very accommodating, they moved tables and chairs to seat us. The coffee was very good. We were so impressed by this café that we called in again, we tried some cakes and scones with our coffee and these were also very good. Tables both inside and outside are great when you want to sit and watch the world go by. I will definitely use this place again.

Stopped here for lunch. Scampi and chips was good and so were our cappucino's and fruit scone. Some of the waitresses were lovely and friendly.

Fantastic little cafe, perfectly positioned. Lots of passing trade which keeps things interesting, great pitstop if you're walking or cycling. Rightly popular with folks like ourselves from the several campsites nearby.Good choices of delicious freshly made food, especially breakfast and lunch. Dinner menu a bit more limited and they like a bit of notice but still good. Plus it's licensed.Prices are reasonable rather than cheap, which is fair enough as everything is fresh and portions are generous. Staff really friendly and helpful, nice atmosphere always.Lots of little quirky things to keep kids and big kids entertained like the toybox and bookshelves. Lots of seats outside.Highly recommended.

I call it Debbie's place - you'll know it when you see it! - said several of the locals on Islay. A large group of us visiting the island had spent the morning dotted across it doing various different activities. I'd asked in the brilliant Islay Natural History Trust where locally we could grab lunch and was directed to the Bruichladdich Mini Market. The place itself is run by Debbie, her mum and her sister. It's the ort of place that is the lifeblood of islands the world over - half grocery shop, half cafe - all welcoming. Debbie's sister was in charge when a group of 15 of us rocked up unannounced. This would normally not have been a problem - plenty of outside seating - but that particular day the ferry had been cancelled, along with much of the stock for the shop and cafe. Undeterred the staff there made us feel welcome and pulled together a lunch which went down very well with all - children and adults alike. Think sandwiches and toasties with great coffee and a good choice of cold drinks. They also serve some amazing cakes - I'm told the rocky road was fab, I know the chocolate cake was! Although initially under pressure when we all turned up, the staff seated us happily and we had all eaten within about 15 minutes of arriving.

Visited to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The setting on the shore of Loch Fyne overlooking the ruin of Castle Lachlan is stunning and we were able to enjoy a bottle of fizz outside our shepherds huts where we would be spending the night. After a late afternoon stroll to the castle ruins we were ready for our dinner. The tasting menu served in the evening is locally sourced and is probably the best I have ever tasted. We chose the wine pairing which was excellent and presented beautifully. After a great nights sleep breakfast is delivered to your accommodation and this is another delight. Cannot fault this place
