The Commodore in Argyll & Bute

Was a table of 7. Had 6 starters all ok apart from the sticky chicken which was very dry. Steaks were pretty tough (X2) but cooked as requested, gammon was over cooked and very dry. Potatoes with sea bass were raw in the middle. Should have complained at the time but awkward when you have taken guests for a meal. The service on the other hand was impeccable, with good banter and very attentive. (I forget the gents name but was from paris) 3 stars is probably generous for the food as lots of choice in helensburgh, but the waiter made the night.

I was in on sunday & served by Eric, i enjoyed roast beef followed chocolate brownie for dessert. Eric was fantastic at his job very friendly & welcoming & also kept ours kids entertained during our visit, look forward to returning.

Was in over the weekend and food was outstanding! Had lamb shank and cheesecake. Eric was magnificent, excellent service!

Was served by Katie tonight. And was made so welcomed. Went above and beyond serving us and making sure if we needed anything she came back without any delays. Was friendly and helpful and had a fantastic approach to what she does within the commodore to make sure everyone has a great time at the commodore

Julien is lovely - I hope you all have the pleasure of meeting him.

1st time here and would definitely come again. Had a spectacular lunch of steak pie and lamb shank. Bother where Incredible. Service was also excellent, we where served by Katie who made us feel so welcomed and offers brilliant service. Ensuring everything was ok during our visit even when the place was very busy.

I come to Helensburgh a couple of times a year to visit my mother who loves the commodore, we had an excellent meal there this time I had the belly pork and mum had the sea bass . The girl that served us was serina who was friendly and made sure we had everything we wanted.

Julien was an amazing waiter. Very attentive, super friendly and good sense of humour. An asset to this establishment. Burger was delicious, pie was yummy (mmmm) steak was beautiful! Drinks were flowing and a pleasurable experience. Would highly recommend ! Live music was also great

Another lovely Sunday roast always reliable and our go to place when I don't want to cook dinner myself. Attentive service from Julien, sure we will be back again in the near future.

We've had a few great meals here with family and friends. Very child friendly, excellent food (highly recommend the Sunday roast!) and the staff have been really welcoming and accommodating. Our waiter Eric was wonderfully attentive and engaged with the toddlers and children at the table. Having moved to the area, we'll be sure to come back again and again!

Lovely food but exceptional service! Well worth a visit

After a busy Saturday, and in search of some TLC in the form of food and good hospitality, we happily pitched up here. What a treat!! A right gem of a place: superb food, lovely, attentive service. And we could bring our furry family member with us too! We'll be back.

Came here for our dinner and we really enjoyed it, the food was good but the service was better, you don't get this kind of service very much anymore . They were professional attentive and knowledgeable. Great stuff will definitely return.

Our servers were pleasant, helpful and efficient as well as being knowledgeable about dietary requirements. The food and drinks were served in good time. The noise level was very good, despite the restaurant being busy, and this created a very calm atmosphere. This establishment is perfect for families of all ages. Being brutally honest, it doesn't look much from the outside (coastal winds don't help), but once inside you're transported into a lovely environment, perfect decor, friendly service and delicious food 👏👏👏

A very nice and cozy pub to escape the weather, with very friendly and helpful staff it is also dog friendly. Food was very good, my only gripe is the prices felt high, but this I feel is a sign of the times.

We recently had use of the coffee shop for a quiz night/ leaving night. The staff are always fantastic and accommodating. The Commodore is the place we try to use because they are always great with us. The food is always amazing .

We took my mum out for her birthday and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. We were served by Heather who was great throughout the evening and really friendly. The food was lovely, we had sunday roasts and my sons both had burgers + deserts. Price was very reasonable too, had a really nice evening !

We visited on a Saturday and a Sunday evening (with our dog) and found the staff delightful and the ambience welcome and comfortable. We very much enjoyed sticky chicken bites, roast lamb rump and garlic prawns with chorizo. It was remarkable that although we were eating towards the end of (Sunday roast) service the vegetables were still very good. Very good beers- can heartily recommend the Neck oil and Bellhaven. Best of all no music, so there was just a contented hum of conversation from happy diners.

Always excellent service, especially from Katie, always gives service with a smile. Food is excellent, great range of drinks and lovely cocktails!

Nice food. Fantastic service from Felicity - friendly and very helpful. Atmosphere really nice, our only observation is that some of the furniture was a bit tired with ripped armchairs. Outside looked a little bit scruffy & could do with a tidy up.

Walked in off street for some lunch ,place was really busy ,lady managed to get us a table for 4 with a dog I might add , food was fabulous along with service ,very reasonable prices also , will be back

Had afternoon lunch here on Wednesday 18th September 2024. Food and atmosphere both very good but must say that the service by Heather was excellent and a credit to the restaurant. Once again Heather thank you for making our afternoon lunch very enjoyable.

Lovely place to have food. We had the cheese and tomato pizza and fish & chips as well as dessert of crème brûlée and banana choux bun. It was all really lovely and tasty. We had great service from a lovely waitress called Serena as well who made us feel very welcomed. Would highly recommend.

Sack the Butcher..... Been coming here over 20 years, always had great food. The steaks were appalling tonight.... 4 out of 5 full of gristle, struggled to find efible meat. Next table returned theirs for same reason. Shame as like this place

Visited the commodore after my sisters graduation.. we initially got a phone call to move our booking to earlier but when I explained what the booking was for we where told it was ok and our booking would be honoured. We were served by Gary who couldn’t be more helpful! Turned out the chef was supposed to finish early that evening but had stayed on to serve our party as it was for an occasion! Gary was amazing from start to finish and even gave my sister a complimentary glass of wine to toast her graduation! Amazing service from start to finish! Thanks Gary!

Had a meal here first night,,,,have to book,,,,food was great,not cheap but well worth the money 💰 bar staff and restaurant staff could not do enough for me,they were brilliant,,,,,,this is a place I would recommend and I would come back,,,,,thank you Commodore .

Yes it's another chain pub, but you know what to expect, good quick service even on a busy Friday and Sunday . Basic but well cooked pub grub , good mix of customers , friendly staff not to mention a nice view of the Clyde

Spotlessly clean room. The food is excellent and reasonably priced. The waterfront view with seating available outside is great. If only they had an elevator. Lugging heavy cases up to the third floor is brutal. Otherwise a wonderful place!!

Very good restaurant, perfect welcome. On the seafront, with a great view. The interior is very warm and typical, like the welcome. We chose local dishes and the suggestion of the day and we enjoyed them very much A must-see address in Helensburg

The food is okay, nothing exceptional though in our view. Service however was exceptional and makes the difference. If you get a place outside you have a great view onto the Clyde, inside is a bit stuffy.

Lovely waiter called Eric who looked after us well. Loved the food. I had sea bass and it was delish! We were in a family group and everyone enjoyed it.

Great atmosphere, fantastic food and great staff. The steak with beef dripping sauce was especially good. Reasonably priced as well.

Lovely place, we asked for a quiet dinner table and that's what the staff did, friendly staff and service and the food was spot on. We ended up booking 3 evening meals.

Stopped here for a break on the way to Oban after spending a week in the Lake District. The venue was very cozy, warm and accommodating. The food were delicious and served quite fast. Generous portion witg reasonable price. The staff were very friendly and lovely.

The steaks were perfectly cooked, the ambience is purely Scottish / even had the bagpipes come out, thought that was probably a lucky strike with an event. The creme brûlée dessert was to die for. Our waitress Katie was amazing, friendly attentive and professional, which just made the night. We will definitely come back here.

Hubby and I both had a steak sandwich and fries. A big mistake very little steak and tough as old boots. Way overpriced at £11.50 each don't even think of trying this
