The Commodore in Argyll & Bute

We had a table of 17 at the Commodore last Saturday for a first communion lunch, and we were looked after perfectly by Eric and the rest of the team. We'd pre-ordered, and got asked just a couple of simple clarifications, to make sure the order had been interpreted correctly, then everyone got exactly what they'd asked for. The service was nice and quick without being rushed, and the food was great. Thanks to the staff and management at the Commodore for helping to make my daughter's big day very special.

Food was great. The veggie burger was really tasty and it wasn't made with 'fake' meat which just doesn't agree with me, and it's what every place now sells, so this was a welcome change to get a tasty burger with a lovely sauce and salad with fries, a real treat for me. The sweet chocolate orange dome was amazing. Nice staff and good service too. I'll definitely be back.

We were three adults and two children ages 4&5. The choice on the menu was fantastic and food was delicious . They were able to offer gluten free options. The service form Eric was 1st class he made a real fuss of the kids and nothing was too much trouble. He was really vigilant about allergy sufferers at the table and made the whole experience really enjoyable

We booked in for dinner while on holiday and visiting Helensburgh. Its location on the waterfront looking across to Greenock on the other side is very pleasant. There is plenty of panic on the roads in front and to the side as well as a pay car park about 200m along near the leisure centre. The food was, to be honest, distinctly average and the service from our rather surly waiter was no better. We were reticent to ask for anything as he would make a comment each time to basically say it was our fault we didn’t get something. It isn’t terrible and it can easily be that the waiter was having an off-day so we would possibly give it another go sometime but with somewhat lower expectations.

Had lunch at the Commodore on May 5th. I had butternut squash soup and the chicken katsu rice bowl. Both were absolutely delicious - really nice. The soup came with nice crusty bread, and butter. Lovely presentation as well, very 'chef-y'! Very friendly, helpful and professional staff at the Commodore too. It is a bit pricey, but it's a nice place with a relaxed atmosphere and tasteful decor, and you are paying for quality ingredients.

Lovely country pub vibe right across from the sea ,we visited on Easter Sunday lunch a mixture of ages from 5 to 50 everyone was comfortable and happy with the food . Our waiter juliem was an absolute delight friendly and helpful we'll definitely be back . I had the trio Sunday roast which was really good I usually don't order pork belly but it was cooked really well x

Julien gets the mention here, fab service, welcoming & friendly & very good humoured but always knows when to leave you! A shame no roast beef available at 3pm on a Sunday, put it down to a kitchen oversight.. normally the roasts are great..

We had a lovely meal and Eric looked after us so well from start to finish! He was attentive and yet relaxed which made us feel comfortable and welcome! The food was so tasty, we both went for a Pork Belly Roast followed by the mini dessert and coffee which was a perfect treat on a Sunday! Thank you Eric and team - we’ll be back!

We had a lovely meal on Saturday. The food was delicious and well presented. Service was very good and efficient. Our server was Eric he went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed. He gave that personal touch and made us feel that our custom was important to him. We look forward to going back again!

Julian our Parisian server was so nice, attentive and friendly. Made us very welcome. Mushy peas a bit watery but didn’t ruin our experience. Will defo return. Don’t change Julian 😁

We visited the Commodore for a family dinner on Easter Sunday, as it’s a firm favourite of ours. The restaurant was busy but we still had great service from Serena and no delays with the food. We had the roast beef dinner, the steak pie, the vegetarian lentil pie, and pizza from the kids menu, which were all well received! Desserts were ice cream, cheesecake, lemon tart, and fruit crumble which were lovely. Looking forward to visiting again once the refurb has been completed.

We went for Easter Sunday and all had a roast. This was absolutely delicious and we all cleaned our plates. Our server was Julien who was so attentive and provided fantastic service! He recommended some wine and it was also delicious!

It was very busy so everything took longer waited 40 for our meal which is really a long time when you are hungry. Vegetables were lovely and soft which really makes a change usually can’t eat them as to undercooked and the turkey was tasty but lukewarm . What can I say about the dessert it was delicious lemon tart never lets me down.

This is one of our favourite places to eat. The atmosphere is so warm and welcoming. It’s a lovely relaxing place to have a drink and some dinner. Julien is a fantastic server. Super friendly and attentive.

We popped in on a very busy Saturday. My husbands fish finger sandwich he said was lovely. I had the chicken salad. My chicken was a little dry and could maybe have done woth more dressing but decent. Marc our server was lovely and attentive. Couldn't do enough for us. 10/10

We booked a table online and with the offer of the 10 quid off if you spend 40 quid quite appealing. What is in the small print is that it takes 6 hours to activate. Fair enough. The place is in need of a massive facelift, it seems to be stuck in the early 90s and reminds me of a Butlins. The decor is very dated and could be spruced up, outside the tables look past their best and slabs could do with modernising. The staff seemed stressed and probably needed more on, the guy we had was a bit over familiar. When I showed him my QR code he took my phone away to scan it which threw me off, I'd never take someone's phone. It was a bit weird. In fact all the staff seemed a bit weird, as if they all hated each other but in a passive aggressive way. Maybe they need a wee staff building sound bath together or something? The food took an age to arrive and it wasn't a complex dish, it was a starter Mac n cheese chips and onion rings as a main, and fish and chips. Probably waiting around 40 minutes. The Mac was sickeningly overwhelming, chips greasy and onion rings mostly batter. The fish and chips were okay although I had trouble finding the fish through the over cooked batter. The giant chips were supposed to be triple fried but I think they were reheats. I had to ask for the bill twice and they didn't return so we paid at the bar. The best part of the meal was that they had bottled fentmans ginger beer. First time here and I'm relatively local but definitely the last. My wife wanted to go to la barca, and I've learned she's always right! So thanks for helping my marriage last longer.

Great food amazing service staff are friendly and helpful for all you needs nice relaxing atmosphere.

Do not go for lunch no option in soup, lasagna came in a bowl which looked like soup, the macaroni had more non melted cheese than pasta. Will come back to see how night time meals fair but lunch time food was abysmal.

We had Sunday Roast around 15.30. Found it was cold when arrived and like it had been sat from lunchtime for a while. Considering the price I don’t see why you should pay for a meal at another time of day only to get 2nd best. The standard should be the same all through the day if open all day. We were offered it to be reheated but didn’t fancy a microwaved roast. No discounts were offered as compensation. Def would recommend the Balloch House Vintage Inn - way above standards and better food for same cost. Disappointing and run down venue needing refurbishment. House Merlot Red wine was very nice.

Just had a Sunday Roast at The Commodore in Helensburgh and it was superb. The atmosphere and service were second to none I will certainly be back. My waiter was Julien and he was friendly, polite and professional and I was looked after extremely well

Shame there’s not 4.5star option. Had a few meals in here last week. 6 out of 7 were great but the last one was not amazing however the staff sorted the issues out promptly, pricing is average and staff are mostly attentive and helpful,

Excellent afternoon of great food, starters and mains while staying in the adjoining hotel. Would highly recommend to any family or friends. The person looking after us so well was Marc, and despite the service being super busy due to good weather he looked after us really well. Again being busy the food came out super quick and hot and was delicious. Thanks All.

Stopped by The Commodore one Sunday with the family and went for the lamb rump, £19.75, which came with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, carrots, parsnips, greens, and gravy. Also shared a cauliflower cheese, £3.75. Unfortunately, it missed the mark. The lamb was tough and fatty, and they didn’t ask how I wanted it cooked. The gravy was nice, and the veg was fine but nothing special. The cauliflower cheese was the best part - creamy, cheesy and well-seasoned—definitely helped lift the meal. The overall service was poor, which added to the disappointment. When we made them aware of one of the dishes being cold, they took it away and microwaved it. Hi! Enjoyable evening. Our server Katie was awesome! Helpful, friendly and great service. Tbh food was good, just not Amazing, that's OK! It's a pub. The fish was fresh! The triple cooked chips were not triple cooked, just average. But great night we had and it was busy.

Had an amazing experience at The Commodore in Helensburgh! Tried the Signature Burger, and it was absolutely delicious—juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was great, and the service was even better. Huge shoutout to Eric, who went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Booked an early evening meal. The four of us have eaten here previously so decided to return. Because I'm using crutches I requested a table out of the way from the main walkway. Marc served us and looked after us very well. The menu had plenty options and we all chose something different. No complaints at all. We will be back. Thank you.

We’ve been coming to the commodore for years and always enjoy the cosy atmosphere and the yummy food. We especially love the lasagne! Marc is especially helpful and friendly.
