Worst restaurant in Elgin. Words cannot explain the hatred we felt leaving after a work lunch. From the staff to the food everything was not enjoyable. Should definitely take tips from others on how to run a restaurant. Can only imagine what the hotel itself is like.

Right on the high street in Moffat. You can park right outside, might be busy depending on what time you arrive. I got there in the evening so there were plenty of spaces. It's free to park which is great. The staff on reception, in the bar and the restaurant were all really friendly and efficient. The room was good, it was a single but with plenty of room. It was spotlessly clean, nice shower gels and plenty of towels. The shower was great too. There was a fridge with a bottle of water and a jug of milk for your tea / coffee. The bar / restaurant is nice. Plenty of choice of beers, lagers and ciders. All very reasonably priced which was a bonus. The food is really good value too. I had the fish and chips which were excellent. The breakfast was fantastic, i had the porridge which was top notch. I'm really glad I stayed here and cannot fault it.

The service was great and the staff were very attentive when asking if we needed extra drinks. However, either the pricing or the food portions need to be adjusted! My meal was £23 for literally a small chicken breast on top of a dollop of mash potato, with a haggis ball and a drizzle of thin gravy/sauce - no vegetables or some sort of greenery added at all. My partner had the steak and guinness pie which was bigger in comparison, but the mash he was served was probably a tablespoons worth. Both meals tasted lovely, but definitely not worth the price charged.

Two very small pieces of fish in very soggy batter (at least the fish tasted nice) accompanied by limp soggy chips. I put the chip in my air fryer when I got home finish cooking them and to crisp them up. The shop was busy and it felt like they were rushing things as a result. Would sooner wait and have the food cooked properly rather then be served what I got and rushed out of the door.

Typical Scottish service ! Employ young inexperienced staff and don’t bother with training. Wines that are hugely marked up but NO sommelier to advise or serve. Steak selection - Fillet or 🤨Fillet ! I find amateur service a common theme in supposedly top end restaurants/ hotels in most of UK. In Europe you can visit a revisit a restaurant after 10 years and probably be welcomed by same professional staff. Sommeliers who are sharp and knowledgeable offering great wines at reasonable markup’s. It doesn’t happen in UK. There was a young server at breakfast who looked like he still had the shirt he slept in that week on for work. My wife and I always come back from ‘5star’ UK short breaks with the same conclusion. No wonder we cruise ! Long live Seabourn , Crystal and Silversea they are worth every penny. Unfortunately unlike hospitality in our own country.
