Best fish and chips north of Yorkshire. Good portion all round delicious. Nice friendly owner

The food was so good and the people working there are amazing. They also have lunch deals on from 12 till 2 if I remember correctly. Would go again.

Bought chips not much served up for price would of spent more if a proper amount was served maybe it was because I was English or something.

Lochside Chippy has been there forever and long may you continue. Despite a lengthy queue, the staff had things well under control.

Visited this week as was passing Wee bit expensive menu The deli counter looks quite good. We couldnt quite believe a chip shop that does not serve brown sauce in any way,as we were abruptly informed They sell sachets of ketchup,mayonnaise,and tartar sauce..very strange...food prepared fresh.😏

Nothing wrong with the food at all but the woman with the blond hair who works mornings is the most rude, ignorant and miserable person I have ever seen in catering.

They put the chips on for each customer that orders, I was in a Que of 6 and took about 25mins for a roll&chips at 12.30 lunch time, slowest chip shop on the planet

Had a fish fish supper which was amazingly guid and tasty.

The staff were really friendly and the food was really nice. Particularly the cod. The portion of chips could have done to be a wee bit bigger.

A little disappointing. The ‘atmosphere’ is negatively affected by the perspex bandit (or more likely Covid) screens lining the counter. Not terribly welcoming. The ladies taking and preparing orders were cheerful and busily efficient but the food … well - fish, chips and peas was the order. Too many tasteless, soggy chips, a surprisingly large tub of mushy peas (which were OK) and a long piece of fish - the highlight, so to speak. Well, it was enclosed in batter which had a rather distressing shape, style and thickness or rather thin-ness. The fish was a measly size and cooked OK but the batter reminded me of Amazon packaging. A thin, brown envelope keeping the contents in place but surely not to be eaten. I tried a bit but it upheld my first impression - best put in the recycling. Other reviews variously speak well or don’t speak well of this establishment. I was passing through the area and am unlikely to return. It has an active local clientele who must enjoy their regular offerings. My review is ‘addressed’ to the fish fryer who could just up his game a bit for the benefit of all.

Came across this chippy on our way home to Newcastle. Shop looked very clean and food was cooked fresh to out order. The 2 lady’s working in the shop seemed lovely very chatty. We got battered haggis, chips curry sauce then a fish and it was beautiful. The first time we’ve had battered haggis and it was amazing! Definitely the best chippy we have been to in a long time. Will definitely try again if we are ever in the area thank you x

It really has gone downhill. Absolute joke to pay £7 for a sausage supper and roll for a lesser standard of food. Chips are soggy and vile, dread to think they have been reheated like previous reviews. We wont be back.

Ordered simple breakfast roll with two people in front of me . 8 people later still waiting after a wee chat between the women they chucked my egg on as they obviously forgot . Must point out a local ordered and collected 2 breakfast rolls after I ordered mine.

This is the second time i have bought from this fish and chip shop. Today the 30th of May i asked if the chips were fresh and i was told yes. I went home to open a large portion of chip(Rip off) and they were reheated chips...again. I will never ever use the chip shop again. If I could give zero stars I would. AVOID.

This used to be my favourite chippy but the past 3 times have been disappointing. Got chips that weren't even cooked properly. The past 2 times the chips have been awful like they've been reheated. This chippy has really went downhill .

Delicious fish and chips. Clean organised environment. Impressive menu for a small fish and chip/cafe takeaway. We are pleased we stopped rather than the McDonalds opposite.

So went to this chippy which I normally love. At 8.05pm to be told they are closed,! The sign says close at 8.30pm I said this but was told no they took there last order. I asked can you not pop a couple more fish and chips on. The young lass said no took the last order. VERY dissatisfied no wonder MacDonald is busy when they close 25 mins before the actual time it says on the sign

Foods nice, other than that the large lady behind the counter, very rude to me. Got given the wrong food after mishearing what one of the staff called out and the young lass looked at me and my girlfriend and said that this order was ours… we went to walk out noticed an item that wasn’t ours so went back handed it to the young girl. The larger lady came over with attitude which I felt was taken out on us. She called out to me soon after and asked me if I wanted salt and vinegar which I didn’t hear she then got frustrated with me and repeated it but with attitude again. Safe to say if she didn’t have that mask on she might have been easier to understand, I get masks are health and safety but it was difficult to hear what some of the staff were saying.

Fantastic fish & chips cooked to order. Lovely crispy battery cooked to perfection. Good size portions and not greasy. Never had a less than perfect order. Staff are always friendly & efficient

I am not in dumfries much but Come from lochside. I always look forward to a fish supper when visiting 😋

My mum ordered me a unbattered sausage and chips and they gave a battered and refused to change it to a unbattered sausage and denyed what she ordered me when I was there to hear it disgusting behaviour and makes sure I. Pay before giving the food so u can’t get money back don’t go here.

Not the best fish supper, the batter was all soggy, the fish was extremely thin you could see the batter through it and the chips looked anaemic. Disappointing

Breaded fish supper is top tier, I have worked all over the UK and I have certainly never had a better breaded fish supper.

Never again, my wife was going to the Palmerston cafe for a takeaway and foolishly listened to her work mates who told her to try here. The result is 3/4 of a fish, yes a 1/4 of it is missing and to add insult to injury there is dried fruit in the curry sauce, absolutely vile take away.........NEVER AGAIN>

Wasn't keen on macaroni, wasn't very saucy. As always though everything else was great!

Pricey ! £4:10 for a large chips ( it's really not that large ) is ridiculous £2:10 for a standard chips which equates to one scoop. The food is of reasonable quality the cooking everything to order is tedious waiting 15 mins for a battered sausage and chips takes the Mick.

Asked as to why I was exempt from wearing a masks in front of a shop full of people. Very unprofessional, why should I explain my medical records to half the town?

Staff are nice and friendly. Super fresh rolls in the morning and fresh hot fish suppers at night. Pizza is also really good.

Don't buy a Burger absolutely cheap nasty burger no need,bacon egg and scone was good though.

Over 9 quid for 2 supposed to be large bags of chips and a sauce. Chips were lovely ,not a huge portion but not worth the money paid.

Curry sauce was watery and disgusting. Batter was raw and undercooked, sausage didn't taste nice. Chips were soggy and greasy. Never going there again.

Good fish supper, portion size was good, nice batter on fish and not greasy, chips were very good. Nice clean shop and staff were very friendly, even got a thank you from the fryer on the way out 😀 Will definitely visit again.

This place has been around for "yonks", been coming here since I was a young lad and I have never been disappointed. From their hot and cold filled rolls in the morning to their smashing suppers during the day. Even the new italian style pizzas and pizza oven is a spot on addition with a glass screen covering the display of all the various pizza toppings so you can see your pizza made in real time. The staff have always been friendly and service is mostly speedy, the shop itself is furnished cleanly and I couldn't recommend a chippy more.

Disappointing chip but. Chips were underdone and very greasy. The bread wasn't as soft bun as expected in a chippy.

Stopped off after a visit to Dumfries and glad we did. By far the best fish supper we have ever had. Chips cooked to perfection and the batter on the fish is delicious and crispy. Everything cooked to order and served piping hot. Finished off nicely with small tub of Equi's ice cream. The shop is immaculate. The staff are friendly and hard working. Folk going to and coming from Southerness Holiday Park often pay a visit and we can see why. Cannot recommend highly enough. Will definitely return.

Stopped oor mini bus here when we saw macds sign then spotted this wee jem of a chippy black pudding was the biz fish supper and haggis had we taste of them all from party members not one bad supper oot them all absolutely supreem we will be back wish i had the black pudding and haggis supplier for my local chippy in corby luvin it all cooked fresh order when u arrive

I was in to get two pizzas, a panzanelle and a sausage supper. The staff were as usual very friendly, they have a good laugh with you. Service was fast and I got my food all freshly cooked like always.

Over the course of appx 1yr...not going very often...various items hav bn tried..•Battered fish & chips - soggy batter, bland fish and ok chips. •Steak pie supper -greasy stodgy pie with not much content and undercooked chips. •Chilli haggis supper-stodgy, bland and chips horrible. •Breaded fish supper-very dry coating and bland but chips ok. •Macaroni cheese & chips- tastless, warm stodge and chips awful......service has bn ok...but slow at times

We don't have fish and chips very often, but when we do, this is the Dumfries chippie of choice. Always excellent. You might have to wait a few minutes - fish is cooked to order - but it is worth it!
