Royal Hotel Restaurant in Moray

Worst restaurant in Elgin. Words cannot explain the hatred we felt leaving after a work lunch. From the staff to the food everything was not enjoyable. Should definitely take tips from others on how to run a restaurant. Can only imagine what the hotel itself is like.

Would like to leave a positive review but we had to cancel our reservation, first restaurant I’ve come across in years that doesn’t offer at least one vegan option. When we asked we were told that it’s not available.

This was my first visit to the Royal for a number of years. Although service was quick and friendly and our party of four enjoyed our meal, I was a bit disappointed with a couple of things. The menu gave very few dining options with only five choices available for the main course. Also there seemed to be very limited stocks of soft drinks. Twice when two of us asked for a second drink, there was none available of our original choice.

Very disappointing baked potato. Soft skin as if re heated and semi warm potato, actually cold in parts. Filling ok, plenty of coleslaw and hubby happy with sandwich. Staff friendly and offered to change meal but didn’t want to hang around and eat separately.

Disappointed with whole experience tonight ,wrong starter for me ,my main meal wasn't what I expected, husband meal was ok just not a happy experience ,sorry for my Hubby as it was a belated birthday meal

Every time I order the food is always great and delivered before set time.

Usually good food. Unfortunately the pizzas were very oily and left a bad taste behind.

Mac and cheese was amazing brilliant portion size, loads of bacon and plenty of cheese! The ribs were very rich but the meat fell off the bone, all arrived piping hot!

Two hours for delivery. 45 mins later than they said.

Great service as always, delivered with a smile and socially distant. Calzones were great, lots of filling, tasty dough cooked to perfection. Thanks again!

Fantastic cheese garlic bread, probably my favourite in Glossop and I've tried them from everywhere.

The chicken tower burger unfortunately isn’t a chicken burger at all, it’s a chicken strip on a muffin, at £4.30 I expected a chicken fillet burger, a whole chicken breast. I order regularly from here but I just felt ripped off

Ordered again via just eat. Took my money then got a message saying it was rejected. Called restaurant. They said they’d “decided not to do just eat tonight”. Still took my money though. Now I need to wait for re refund. So I thought I’d order over the phone. Places my order. Was asked for car details. Said “hang on while I walk downstairs to grab my phone”. Guy said “I have a customer waiting here, I will call you back in ten minutes”. NO! Never again. Shame as they used to be good.

Always lovely food. Arrives before delivery estimate time. Can’t fault it at all. Excellent delivery driver very friendly. One of our favourite takeaways.

Lasagna was cold and had no flavour had clearly been frozen and reheated. Meatballs were okay but again lacked flavour. All the rest of the food was alright.

Was supposed to be Double Pepperoni but there wasn't much pepperoni on it. Decent pizza though.

Personally, we thought the pizza and chicken burger were quite bland.

Big portions, nice flavours, no complaints will pick here again.

This was my first visit to The Royal Hotel courtesy of a £25 voucher which I won in a Lifestyle (excellent free magazine covering Moray/Aberdeenshire) competition. The busy restaurant was very well organised pandemic wise and had a comfortable, relaxed feel. Staff were friendly, efficient and polite. Plenty of choices, menu wise. I had the chicken burger and fries which was the best I've had yet, delicious. My friend chose the Cajun chicken pasta with garlic bread which she thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you, I will certainly be back!

Best takeaway in area by far. Would highly recommend for quality and amazing friendly service.

Been a customer for years and I haven't got a bad word to say about the place. Delivery is prompt, food is of a consistent quality and the staff have been more than helpful on the very rare occasion that something needs addressing.

Food was fresh, great quality. Fast delivery and great friendly service.

Excellent family meal at The Royal. Service and food both outstanding, very polite and accommodating staff. Definitely be back.

MY Wife and I had dinner here earlier this week. We were welcomed on arrival and shown into a room on the right. Tables were well spaced out, there were several hand sanitising stations and staff were clearly aware of their responsibilities during the Covid pandemic. That was reassuring. Staff were very pleasant and attentive. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her meal and although my steak was lovely - cooked to perfection - I have to say the prawn cocktail starter was a bit of a let down; uninspiring, quite a small portion and in my opinion overpriced. Overall, though we regarded the dinner as enjoyable and reasonable value for money.

I always order from here. The food is always delicious and delivery has never been late - usually early!

Regularly order from Pizza Royal, it's never disappointing. One of the best pizza places local by far. 5* highly recommended!

Food was lovely as always, as was the service. Would highly recommend.

Bit disappointed. Christmas Dinner very bland and nothing special at all. Other meals at our table were also just ok. Didn’t expect frozen chips in a restaurant.

Had a lovely afternoon tea here for my birthday, my sister and I hugely enjoyed it, also had a birthday party here 3 years ago for 30 people was also excellent

Went here for a 21st treat for my daughter. The food was well prepared and presented and plentiful. A slight mixup with the steaks but otherwise an excellent meal

We booked our table for 7.30pm we arrived on time were seated then just left for ages. A girl came and asked for our drinks order to which we replied we were ready for our food order too as we were all hungry. She replied i only take drinks orders not food. And then disappeared after not taking our drink order. Then someone from our group had to then go to the bar and ask for our drinks and food order to be taken. Eventually our drinks order was taken. Then we waited until someone else then came through cleared some tables and never took us on? We stopped her before she left with the plates. Then eventually someone came to the table to take our order. Our drinks took a while but eventually arrived. Our food arrived after. Which was beyond amazing. We had starters mains and some pwople had some pudding. I had the prawn starter which was amazing. Then the steak which was cooked to perfection. I then ordered a cocktail which wasn't nice at all. Was very disappointed. We then had to ask for our bill. Over all the food was out of this world but the service let it down massively. It wasn't busy at all and tbh it ruined our night a bit. If the staff were better we would probably be back... but unfortunately we probably won't

Ordered on a sunday. It said an hour wait which was fine. As expected but got a knock after 30 mins and food was here. It is very local to me but still was so happy. Food quality is great. Very polite Lady delivery driver. Thank you.

Lovely evening meal. You cannot fault the quality of food in this restaurant. Large portions too! Nice to see different choices than what you normally get at other restaurants. We both had the Chicken flatbread for our starters which was delicious followed by a steak and Chicken topped with haggis burger. Both very well presented. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Food was decent and a good price, would recommend

My Fiancé and I had an evening meal in the Royal tonight. To be honest we had planned to go to a neighbouring restaurant but it was full and how glad were we!! Probably the best meal we have had in a long time. It was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday evening which made us a little doubtful as to what to expect. We needn’t have been. I had mussels to start, salmon for main and baileys cheesecake for dessert. My other half had Caesar salad to start, creamy Cajun chicken pasta for main and the same dessert as me. The whole meal was delicious, couldn’t fault a thing. The staff were attentive yet not in your face. The restaurant itself has clearly undergone refurbishment and had a lovely modern chilled vibe. Highly recommend.

This was our first visit to the Royal Hotel and certainly not our last.We sat in the nicely laid out conservatory which is a sun trap on a lovely day. There is a wide ranging menu with breakfasts till 11.30, a good choice of lunches, sandwich and soup options, filled wraps and paninis, a children's menu and an afternoon tea which must be pre booked.Service was quick and friendly, prices were reasonable and we enjoyed our lunch.Recommended

Visited this restaurant with my daughter on a girls day out. We had a lovely cocktail followed by an excellent pulled pork sandwich from an exciting menu. It's great to see a menu which is not the usual run of the mill and makes your mouth water when you read it! I'll definitely be back.

Really great service. Food was still red hot when delivered, and great quality as always. Were regulars here and can honestly say we've never had a bad meal.

My eldest son with his wife and daughter took me to breakfast here in the café section. I was pleasantly surprised as I haven't been before. The food was great and the staff was very friendly. There was a small area for my grand-daughter to play. I plan to go again and try the restaurant.

This was my first visit and it won’t be my last. It’s a lovely cafe attached to the hotel. Very clean comfortable. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Definitely worth a visit.

Had the cajun chicken pasta with king prawns... has to be one of the best main courses I have had in a long time. My partner had the roast pork she was also delighted.

I was in the conservatory part and it was lovely with the sun shining in. The menu is comprehensive with good non fancy listings. i had the fish and chips and it was lovely. Service was very quick. This is ideal for a lunch. Good value

Family went the Royal Hotel today. Good choice of food, great mixture of options. Food was really delicious for both adults and kid. Service and setting both spot on.

Hard this place under the new management thought give a try there food was okay but service was great.

These guys have been great every time I've ordered from them. Speedy service and piping hot food.

My food was delicious and beautifully cooked but I had to pay £4 for a large lime and lemonade. I've just been to Wetherspoons and paid £3.60 for a gin and lemonade. I feel this is a ridiculous price for a soft drink which is such a shame as it may put people off coming.

It’s the first time we’ve been to the Royal since it’s been taken over and there has certainly been improvements been made in its appearance. The interior has all been done and it looks great especially the log burner in the restaurant.

Arrived 15 minutes early and they did not seem to be expecting us even though we had booked. Nice table in the window with room for children but our coats where not taken. We waited a while for someone to come over and when they started setting the table for food we had to prompt a drinks order to which we were told would happen in a minute. Upon ordering drinks, ordered a coke but they did not have any, only diet (despite there being two supermarkets within 5 mins walk). Ordered gin and tonic and waitress asked what type of gin we would like, a pleasant surprise. When we asked what gin they had, the waitress did not know! Ordered from set Christmas menu and the food was poor. Plates cold. The turkey was not a roast as advertised but a turkey roll as was the stuffing. We were not offered more drinks and had to prompt seeing the wine list twice. Dessert was ok, but one member of group ended up ordering after the others had their desserts. We where not offered any coffee etc at the end of meal. Staff where nice and friendly but lacked training. The food was very poor.

If you can't even cook a burger right then you are not getting another order from us! That food last night was a disgrace and went straight in the bin. You are a bad joke and I hope you go out of business!

Hands down this is one of the best takeaways in the area. The calzones are amazing, the donner meat is nice, the chips are nice and their pizza's are 10/10. The staff are excellent and always deliver on time if not earlier. I highly recommend this place

fort time I have been for lunch in the new conservatory at the Royal Hotel. My friend and I both went for a panini which was served with a side salad and crisps. Coleslaw and salad were very tasty as was the panini although it could have been cooked just a little longer for perfection as it wasn’t very warm and the cheese had not melted more like a sandwich! My only other criticism is that the conservatory was very hot and would be uncomfortable in summer.

Au soir de notre parcours dans la "délicieuse" vallée du Speyside, on a diné au Royal Hotel Restaurant qui était en face du parking où nous avions stationné le cc. Pour autant, si l'accueil fût sympathique, la qualité des plats n'était pas à la hauteur, pas plus que le choix de whisky, par ailleurs hors de prix en Ecosse!
