Chimes in Moray

We use to visit this cafe regularly a few years ago, so thought we would try it again. It's gone down hill. Tablecloths not very clean and the food is poor, but not cheap. They have a £10 OAP menu. Very small portions, my husband was suppose to get apple pie & cream, but rice pudding came out with a blob of jam on it. We certainly won't be visiting here again.

Got 1 takeaway cup of latte cost…..£4.24! Must be the dearest coffee in Scotland. I queried the price but was told this was correct.

Good Food, Good Menu, Nice Place to Relax.

Good coffees and great bacon butties. Breakfast looked great too. Good value for money. All the locals were greeted by name and we were all well looked after.

We were through for a wander and happened to see the Chimes in the High Street .In we went and the waitresses were friendy and said to just sit at any table .So far so good .We were given menus and for about £10 a meal we were not impressed .The O.A.P meal of fish fingers and chips for £10 was disgusting , some chips and TWO skinny fish fingers from a frozen packet , the Mac /cheese and chips , where's the rest of the meal as it isn't even half of what is served in other cafes , seriously we were all gobsmacked and disgusted by the quality of food and the pricing .We did notice some pensioners ( yes excluding the one with us ) were being served a lot larger portions than us , is it if not local then starve ? .It was our first time eating there and it will be our last .

Great service. Lovely ladies. Relaxing atmosphere. Was in we my pal she loves the food. Myself Loved the hot hot chocolate we the trimmings.

A wonderful, traditional lunch house and tea house. Great, straightforward meals, really well prepared, with large selection of dishes and cakes. The staff were lovely, really nice. A place you will struggle to find elsewhere within its category for combining both charm and quality.

Great place for a very good priced breakfast in Forres. Been a few times now.

Beautiful food, the atmosphere is calm, nice, homely. Lovely cafe and the ladies who work in there are accommodating, remember you and your name and are greet you with a smile. I just went there for lunch today I go maybe 2 times a week sometimes more. Their milkshakes are beautiful! My favourite meal is the big Scottish fry up brekkie.. amazing and the chicken Mayo toastie.. you cannot beat their chips! They’re big and fluffy! Highly recommended and it’s the only place in forres me and my family tend to eat and drink in.

Lovely little cafe. Full of locals which is always a good sign. Plenty to choose from and they even breakfast at any time. Will be back.

Good selection on menus. A range from breakfast items to soup, sandwiches, panini etc. Soup and sandwich deals. Very good selection of cakes. Staff very friendly and helpful. Dog friendly.

My hubby and I ordered fish, chips and peas for lunch. I told the waitress ( who was very nice) I needed the peas to be cooked soft as I have difficulty swallowing hard food and to make sure they were hot. I assumed the fish would be battered, which I shouldn't have done. When the meal came, the peas were too hard for me, so they hadn't been cooked enough to my liking and only just warm. The fish was breaded not battered. It looked overcooked at one end as it was very hard! Both our fish portions were of the same size. I think this fish was NOT fresh but had just been taken out of a packet and cooked from frozen! Not good! The chips were nice and fluffy on the inside, but there weren't that many of them! On paying, I told the (another) waitress that I hadn't been able to eat the peas or the outside of the fish as it was breaded not battered. All she said was "Oh, I'm sorry about that. That'll be £20 please"! Awful attitude ( should have offered a discount) and won't be having fish and chips there again. Fine if you like frozen fish!

Magic place like the cafe in last of the summer wine, always a good bit of gossip going on.

Good little cafe in the heart of Forres main st. Good choice of food and soft drinks on the menu. Also a nice selection of cakes and milkshakes. Bonus, its dog friendly, no bother to get a bowl of water and a treat for my dog.

I was looking for someone to provide the food for a surprise party to celebrate a significant birthday for my wife at our house at fairly short notice, at what must be a busy time of year for outside caterers. Angela couldn't have been more helpful, meeting me straight away and taking time to explain the options. On the day, the food was delivered promptly and was very well presented, with plenty to go round for all our guests who were without exception very complimentary on the buffet provided. The chocolate fudge cake was particularly appreciated! I wouldn't hesitate to use Chimes catering service again. Highly recommended. Thank you Angela.

The staff were supportive to the older people in the cafe. However the sandwiches and baked potato we ordered was very poor quality. Possible the worst I have tasted. The bill was not as advertised which is not acceptable and the response from staff when challenged was disappointing. The children’s menu was okay. Would not recommend and will never return.

A bit pricey for the portions, otherwise a very standard breakfast with friendly staff.

Nice little place and good food but was a little disappointed by lack of customer service, I understand the stress of customer service working in it for the past 7 years but wasn’t great and was offered white or brown bread for the toaster but wasn’t asked for baguette and wasn’t made aware there were seeds on top.

Hadn't been here for years but was in Forres and it was lunchtime... Anyway, wasn't disappointed. Although I'm not vegan I had the spicy vegan burger with chips and my wife had the lasagne. Burger was nice and moist, not too spicy. Lasagne was lovely too. Chips were really tasty and meals nice and hot. All washed down with a nice pot of tea. Decided to have the sweets. I had sticky toffee pudding with custard and cream. It was nice but was more like a treacle sponge. My wife had a Knickerbocker Glory which was ok. Prices reasonable and staff friendly, quick and on the ball.

Nice little cafe on the main street. Came in as it was dog friendly. Not the nicest looking place, but the coffee and cakes were good. Also, the 2 staff were very friendly, making sure our dogs got water and treats.

Although the coffee is horrible the food is so good that I've started going there regularly.

Bread was stale. Sandwich filling and soup were lovely.

We visited here later in the day when they were probably winding down but they were still very helpful and said it was no bother to give us a hot meal. We had beautiful soup and a baked potato. Everything was really tasty and the staff very friendly. The distancing measures we were very happy with. They are also taking part in the Eat out to Help out scheme which we benefited from. Will definitely visit again.

Tremendous full Scottish breakfast, good quality ingredients, particularly tasty black pudding. I forget if there is a step up into the cafe from street level but the toilets which were clean seemed to be possible to be used by a person in a wheelchair. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Good price.

I have been in for both breakfast and coffee on several occasions and have never been disappointed. The breakfast in particular is always very good and they clearly use good quality ingredients.

Having been turned away from The Peppermill quite curtly because they were fully booked we stumbled across the chimes and what a gem it is. Really lovely food, great choice including vegetarian and vegan and good value. The homemade courgette soup was a delight. I can also recommend the homemade lemon drizzle cake. Everything was reasonably priced. This is popular with the older locals and I can see why. The caring, friendly staff make this a lovely place to stop. It's understated from the outside and easy to walk past but go back and go in - it's worth it!
