Sunninghill Hotel in Moray

We went for Sunday lunch. Staff are friendly and efficient but food disappointed slightly. All the roasts we had seemed pretty much the same as each other (shame there was no pork cracking or crispy chicken skin) with simple vegetables and boiled as well as roast potatoes. It was expensive we felt compared to our local which does a fabulous roast for £2 less. However, the location is convenient in Elgin and the service is friendly so I’d give it another try if visiting again and try some other dishes on the menu.

What a fantastic find. I'm sure everyone locally knows how good this place is, but it was a delight to experience the best food and service I've had in a very long time. I'm going to visit more often 😃

Was there last night service was good to start then took ages to wait for plates to be taken awa and also was offered puddings and waited for 15 mins for someone to take order still did not come so we left , menu needs to be updated aswell it never changes

Just had the most superb meal todayThe deep fried prawns were big and juicy and in a delicious light batterMain course was 2 pork loins with haggis and with all the trimmings and was a lovely alternative to turkeyAnd sticky toffee pudding was light and sticky with plenty toffee sauceEverything cooked to perfection and large portions.Staff were excellent friendly and attentiveWill definitely visit again

Unfortunately very, very poor. Raw chips from frozen, defrosted burger buns, Cullen Skink that did not have smoked haddock and very erratic sizes of portions.The service was good and a discount was given due to the quality of the meal but unfortunately the quality dose not reflect on the price.

There was four of us for Christmas lunch and everything was just lovely including the staff. The service was excellent, our orders taken efficiently and the food arrived with a short delay whilst we chatted. All our food was cooked perfectly, including, salmon, pork and turkey. The home made pavlova was just delicious, in fact out of this world and the nicest we’ve had in a restaurant. We didn’t feel rushed, which was a good thing because we wanted to have a good catch-up before Christmas. We would certainly recommend this hotel as a good place to eat, with friendly and helpful staff.

Had a lovely lunch here yesterday, yummy Cajun chicken. Friendly, attentive, unobtrusive staff who were happy for us to linger over coffee afterwards. Thank you!

Everything about our 4 night stay was great. The hotel had plenty of hand sanitiser dispensers strategically located, and screens wherever appropriate. Staff wore masks at all times. Our room was large and comfortable. We were invited to say how often we wanted it serviced (to reduce the number of folk entering our room) and we opted for it to be serviced once, halfway during our stay. There were lots of choices on the menu, and we enjoyed all the meals we had. The hotel’s greatest asset is its staff who were all friendly yet professional. Nothing was too much trouble for them and the hotel owner. Sunninghill is within easy walking distance to the town centre. We will definitely return.

Lovely lunch once again and everything in place to make us relax and feel safe. Hats off to everyone. They were really busy but still gave the usual high standard service.

Went for a meal with my husband. What a great place....fantastic service, great food and terrific surroundings. Clean toilets too....which is always an essential! Will be returning and would recommend 100%

Lovely evening meal with an extensive menu to choose from during these covid times. Table for 4 and we all had different choices and non of us were dissapointed. Excellent service and all covid restrictions and rules in place so all felt very safe.

This was a lovely meal in a very nice environment. Meet and greet and service at the table was great. We both had the salmon and side veg and it was cooked and presented very well. Gaelic coffee was the best we have had on our Scottish road trip.

This was recommended to us by the owner of the West End Guest House where we were staying on a B&B basis - also very good. We went to the Sunninghill Hotel for dinner and whilst it was busy the staff found a table for the two for us. The food and service were so good we went there each evening on our 3 night stay in the town. Great menu with wide choice. Just loved the mushroom and haggis starter!

A few people have complained about the portion sizes. They are well prepared with attention and just the right size to appreciate the experience of taste without the bloated sense many of us succumb to. The waiting staff are very attentive and overall the 8 of us had a great evening. Ice cold water in vintage bottles was a great touch as soon as we sat down so we cold take our time ordering drinks. Vegetarian choices for main meals are limited sadly so if you're not demi-veg (fish but no white/red meat) then you'll have to stick to the appetizers. Nevertheless, thank you to all the staff for being an asset to Elgin's gastonomy experience.

We went to The Sunninghill yesterday for lunch which was our first dining out experience since before the lockdown. Possibly partly because of this we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch - superb food served by efficient and attentive staff. The Government Discount scheme made this experience fantastic value for money too !

Great hotel, fantastic food and very friendly staff. Ideal location for touring the whiskey trail. Restaurant very busy with local people which is always a good recommendation.

Food is a little old school, I had broth as a main course which came in a plate the size of a cup and tasted nothing like broth, my wife had chicken in breadcrumbs which was dry and hard to the point of being brittle, servers were nice but uniforms were dirty and outdated, I will not be going back there for lunch

We had a 3 generational family dinner on Saturday evening to celebrate a 40th birthday (middle generation). We tend to go to the Sunninghill on these sort of occasions as their menu is wide and varied, including a good children's menu. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our food which was pleasantly, efficiently and professionally served by their very good restaurant staff. A good bar too - great selection of whiskies and beers. Thank you Sunninghill !

Thanks to all the staff at The Sunninghill. Celebrating my birthday with my family and friends, 24 of us all together and the food and service were excellent.

We attended the second sitting for lunch on Christmas Day at 2.30pm. The first sitting were still at there tables and we were ask if we minded ordering our drinks and waiting whilst a table was cleared for us, which we did. We were shown to our table and after having waited for 30mins were again asked if we would like a drink. Which duly arrived. The meal was delicious and the service very prompt for such a busy time. Yes. There is a But. Our table was positioned next to the door and there were several families with young children who were up and down constantly for the duration of the meal who were for the 2 hours which we were sitting there banging up against my chair. I have had children and I do remember that they do not want to sit still for such a long time. We therefore would like to make 2 suggestion.There is a sitting or designated area for families with children. So that the children and parents can enjoy their meal and day.There are many of us who frequent the Sunninghill on a regular basis and have become accustomed to a certain standard.

Enjoyed an excellent meal here the other night after many years of putting it off. Great to see liver bacon and onions on a menu and cooked so well. Likewise the scampi sunninghill - coated in a lovely creamy dill sauce that I could’ve happily drank a pint of if it was available.Desserts looked a bit safe, however they were also flawless. Better safe and delicious than needlessly complex. Hope to enjoy a meal again here soon!

Met up with relatives for lunch yesterday, and this was a first class experience. A warm, welcoming restaurant beautifully decorated for Christmas. Very efficient, friendly staff who were most helpful. Large menu with something to suit everyone, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal, followed by lovely hot coffee. We were then allowed to sit in the lounge bar area with our friends over another coffee, and no-one bothered us. We will definitely back - well done to all involved.

Had a lovely stay at this hotel. The room was very spacious and immaculate. The owner and staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Food was amazing and plenty of it. Hotel was within walking distance from city centre and Railway station. Will definitely be back soon again.

We have been for dinner a couple of times now and have enjoyed both meals. The specials have always been the best options with slow roasted lamb being the highlight. Staff are friendly and attentive, and the place is clean and cosy.

This was our first time here at the Sunninghill and we stayed in one of the chalets on the ground level as my husband has mobility problems. This was ideal for our needs from being able to park the car outside our door to the lovely spacious room and en-suite. The restaurant was very close to our room which was ideal as there was no stairs to climb. The food was excellent and locally sourced and the staff very friendly.

Good and varied menu with daily specials. Pleasant and attentive staff. Nice surroundings- no background music- which was a bonus when having a conversation with elderly person in group. Levelbaccess good too.

We booked Sunninghill for our wedding breakfast(lunch) there were only a small number of us but the staff as requested sat us in a separate conservatory. The food was fabulous and the service was excellent so made our wedding day a lovely one.

Dinner with colleagues after work. Excellent food and fantastic service. Very good value for money. Can’t recommend enough.

Attended a birthday party celebration meal on Saturday evening - really excellent meal and served very promptly - 16 in the party so very impressed with all concerned with the preparation and service.

The Moray Registrars had a wonderful meal last night at the hotel. Once again everything that was ordered was delicious. A special thank you to Jonathan for making cocktails for us. Can't recommend this hotel enough.

Members of my distant family met for an evening meal here. We all had something different to eat and none were disappointed! Perhaps not the cheapest around but certainly the best that we found!

Very good menu with lots of choice. 5 of us visited last week and every dish was very good. The wine choice is also good and reasonably priced. Only a couple of minor issues; the food was slow to be served and we weren't offered bread, and one of the deserts wasn't exactly as described on the menu. Overall a great restaurant.

Have been to the sunninghill on more than one occasion and will continue to return. Each time we have been they have been very busy but this has not affected the standard of service nor the food. The conservatory areas for dining in are light, fresh and welcoming. All staff members are polite and helpful. The food, is delicious...I have tried a few of their seafood starters and I can highly recommend their fajita dish which comes to the table sizzling...literally. Never ever had a disappointing visit here, food is always of good quality and well presented. Also, worth mentioning is the value for money, have never found them to be expensive for the quality of food and service....highly recommend.

A very pleasant place to have a meal. Well appointed, with friendly, efficient staff and a nice atmosphere. Everything on the menu seemed, to me, to be slightly overpriced and, when the food arrived, I was unable to identify extra quality or quantity to support the extra cost. Nevertheless, a pleasant place to have a relaxing meal.

We were at the hotel having evening meal with friends it was excellent, the choose of food was varied also they provided a vegetarian menu when our meal arrived piping hot and it was delicious,the staff made us very welcome and service was excellent would recommend this establishment.

Stayed here a couple of times now while in Elgin with work. Food is really nice. Orkney Gold beer is awesome. Rooms are fine. Staff helpful and friendly.

Went for lunch on Sunday, the service could not be faulted, and the meal itself was very good. Would certainly go back, and not too expensive either.

Night out for a retiral event....great value and service...the vege menu was ace! Why can't other restaurants do similar?

Been here twice now and both times have enjoyed a great meal in a very relaxed atmosphere. The staff are attentive without being bothersome. The menu has something for everyone and the quality is high. We will be going here again.

An excellent place for friends or couples with a wide range of menu and lovely dishes that won't break the bank

Out for a catch up meal with friends before christmas. Obviously a very busy time of year, but as always our meal was first class from start to finish. The staff very friendly as usual, always keen to help especially with one fussy eater!

Decided on Sunninghill as my husband fancied a Christmas dinner. Food was ok, I’ll boast here & say my own home made Christmas dinner was streets ahead of this meal. Although the staff were efficient not at all friendly, one in particular was very brusque (60ish female). I felt as soon as entering we were given ‘orders’, we all had to choose from same menu, why?? Don’t offer 2 menus then!! We had agreed when booking that we would vacate by 645 but this was hammered home again upon seating us. My little girl was not fond of the ice cream & we asked to order another dessert for her (happy to pay for it) but the facial expression suggested it was a problem. I just think another mediocre Elgin eatery living on past reputation. Food very average & service I would say from disgruntled staff (one pleasant young lad stood out as nice, he even dared to chat). I believe it is a busy place, perhaps I’m too picky but it is just not a place I would choose to visit again.

I find this place overpriced with surly staff. Bizarrly I go back once a year and find it still the same. We came for lunch recently to be honest because it was going to be convenient to get back to Dr Grays hospital on a day of several appointments.

This is a regular haunt of ours, when in Elgin. Very good food and reasonably priced .............. Especially good is the Moroccan Lamb!

I went to this hotel on Saturday for Christmas lunch and it was very good, the food was nicely presented and tasted good as well, the staff were very attentive and polite and our surroundings in the conservatory were also very nice.

myself and my wife popped in today at lunch time for a light lunch....the service was quick, the food was lovely, and a male member of staff was very helpful when the sun was in my wifes eyes,by shutting the blinds for her.

A gem of a hotel great menu and so helpful and friendly staff. The bar has a great selection of whisky. A great place to stop and relax in.

We had a family meal back in September of this year for our Golden Wedding which was absolutely spot on, I left a review at the time, because we enjoyed it so much. We had lunch today for our granddaughters birthday and it certainly lived up to our expectations. The meals were great, service very good, all staff were very pleasant and helpful, and we felt that the atmosphere and surroundings too added to our enjoyment. A big thank you to all concerned for making our meal memorable. We will be back.

Visited here a few weeks ago with my boyfriend and decided to come back on Friday for one of my 30th Birthday meals with my boyfriend and our families. On both occasions, the food was superb and well presented. I can't believe I have been living in Elgin for 2 years and have only just tried the Sunninghill! Extensive and varied menu and a good selection of drinks and cocktails at the bar. Slightly pricey for certain things but you get what you pay for and will certainly be back. Mark and I would like to say a Huge Big Thank you to Mrs Ross and the staff at the Sunninghill Hotel for all they did to make our special day totally amazing. From the time that I arrived on Thursday until when we left on Saturday. Nothing was a problem to them and everything was done with a smile. Thanks to the Chef and kitchen staff for providing a tasty dinner and supplying tasty sausage rolls and sandwiches at night. To Jonathan, the bar staff and waitress/waiters for coping so well with so many people. To the staff who set up the wedding room for the Registrar. To the domestic staff for preparing the rooms for early arrival of guests. Extra special thanks to Rosie who did so much and went that extra mile or two! We can't fault a thing. Thank you so much. X

Took my Step Mum here for a meal on a Sunday evening. Nice warm welcome, the staff were very nice. Food was good, I had the filet steak & haggis, the steak was very small for the price & there was a lot of haggis but overall cooked really well. Desert was great & my step mum was very pleased with her fish.

Nice if you manage to sit in the conservatory, service a bit lax but food worth the wait..sometimes can be pricey for what you get. On the whole it’s ok for a special meal/ evening.

As ever, the Suninghill gave us a warm welcome even though it was extremely busy with visiting forces personnel from France and the USA.

We treated to lunch for our 50th wedding anniversary and were a party of 7. The food was very good, nicely presented and the staff were very friendly, courteous and polite. Nothing was too much trouble, haven't dined there for a while but would highly recommend it for dining.

Stayed here for one night on the 4/9/18.

Usually very good but this time the food seemed really slow in coming out. Staff friendly but need to focus more on guests requests. Asked for a spoon twice which never appeared also a request for butter seemed to be forgotten. Could understand if it was really busy but quite a few tables were vacant.

Great resteraunt, good food, nice facilities, and friendly staff. Would recommend this to anyone. Menu has lots of choice and caters for all types. Warm and inviting and a good bar. Lots of on site parking, never had an issue parking.

We dined here for the first time in many years on Monday evening and we had a positive experience. We hadn't booked a table but it was no problem and we were seated straight away. Our waiter was the perfect host and he was polite and friendly from start to finish (unfortunately I didn't get his name).

Just home after having a lovely get together with cousins, some who had travelled from the other end of the country. The hospitality was excellent as usual and the meals were fantastic. A special thank you to Jonathan and his team for a great night.

On a recent visit to Elgin, a friend took me here for lunch. We both had the venison burger with black pudding and blue cheese accompanied by salad and chips. It sounds a weird combination but it worked except I felt there was just a little too much black pudding. Altogether a pleasant lunch.

A good restaurant, but it seemed priced £2-3 pound over comparable restaurants in the are. We got what we paid for, and it was delicious, but it seems like they really put on the nines for the holidays & aren't as fussy when it comes to a Thursday afternoon about 4:00PM.

Varied menu, food prepared to a very high standard and served professionally. Prices reflect the quality.....certainly not a cheap night out. One complaint......I'm all for attentive service but when restaurant staff and managers constantly loudly engage with the loquacious extended family (hotel residents) in the only other table in the vicinity, our enjoyment couldn't help but be sevefely diminished. Certainly felt that the staff believed courting the lucrative residents was their duty....and to hell with we casual diners. We were someone's guest for dinner so didn't feel able to complain. Had I been paying I certainly would have made our feelings known.

Our party of 4 went for an evening meal. Most of the staff were friendly... apart from it seemed to be the head waitress? She was an older lady and had dark culy medium length hair & glasses. She was very rude to one member of the staff I believe her name was Kelly? She had long red hair! The waitress (Kelly) was super friendly, attentive and helpful. But the poor girl was told off by this head waitress for chatting with us! This made our time there very uncomfortable & we felt so sorry for the poor waitress! She wasn't chatting to us for ages either. She was just doing her job and making us feel welcome and comfortable!

This is the second time I have booked a meal for a (big) family event and once again everything was fantastic. Winnie and Alastair are so helpful and do everything they can to accommodate your requirements. The food is amazing and the service and staff are brilliant - nothing is too much bother. The cost is extremely reasonable considering the size of the portions and it is the only place I have ever been which has a separate (and imaginative) vegetarian menu! The main menu has loads of choice with some different, and again imaginative dishes and you'll striggle to select just 1 thing from the desert menu! I cannot praise them highly enough and have no hesitation in recommending the Sunninghill for a celebration or just a quiet meal for 2.

We booked a Table at The Sunninghill Hotel, Elgin for a Birthday Dinner, We were delighted with the Welcome, The Service & The Beautiful food, we had our meal in a comfortable Conservatory, we were not rushed - it was a good experience......There is not a bad thing to say about The Sunninghill Hotel..... We use it several times for family celebrations & will continue to do so.............................................

Went on Christmasday menu was lovely,service a wee bit slow but food was worth the wait.Been on other occasions menu good would highly recommend for lunch or evening meal good portion size.

Went for a meal here tonight and was very disappointed with the food. The haddock was bland and tasteless think the fish was frozen and the chips just ok. The apple crumble was mushy. My partner had the chicken supreme the presentation was disappointing it looked lost on the plate. All in all disappointing. Also I have to make a comment about the staff serving the food. They need to pay attention to the appearance of their uniform. A small man serving the food his waistcoat was dirty and the girl with the red hair wore a skirt that was all picked and hairs stuck to the skirt. Not very smart at all.

We enjoyed a nice beer while waiting for our table. The meat was really good, maybe a little expensive. The environment was ok for a business meeting. Highly recommended in Elgin.

I gave this hotel a bad review in December when 8 of us went for a pre christmas lunch not so much for the food but for rushing us with our meal which we were very agrieved about.

The meal was nice, nothing wrong really. Service was good. It was a nice meal. But, seriously overpriced.

First visit to this hotel for Sunday lunch and l certainly won't be hurrying back. The dining room was dark and lacked atmosphere. The staff whilst "polite" were neither friendly nor cheery and the food was average and pricey considering the quality and quantity!
