AMAZING! The food was unreal! The staff were so welcoming and lovely! But the star of the even was the steak pie, my god 😍

Love the pizza night at the brucklay. We regularly have a takeaway and can highly recommend it.

First time eating out for over a year and well worth it, I was stuffed! It was well layed out for social distancing, everything was well maintained, which was reassuring. The staff were really friendly and very helpful great service. Thanks for a lovely evening!

Not one negative here.Firstly and most importantly, the food was outstanding. The service was nothing less either. We had salt & pepper chicken, haggis Bon Bon’s and chicken fillets to kick off. All were cracking and delicious.Main courses were fish & chips. 8oz steak burger and creamy Cajun chicken. Absolutely brilliant. Only one slight criticism is the burger patty was a tiny bit dry but I put that down to being 100% steak. Needs a bit of fat. Nothing to do with the cooking or good quality, just personal taste.The fish stole the show. Fresh, HUGE and perfectly cooked in a light, crispy batter. Outstanding.Homemade coleslaw, onion rings and fresh salad added to the brilliant meal. We all enjoyed everything that was brought to the table. All in all......superb. See you soon.

Great food served by friendly efficient staff.

Stopped in for lunch in this average village pub, we were shown through to the restaurant which was extremely cold as it was devoid of customers and I think the heating was off for this reason.I ordered a coffee whilst deciding what to have and a glass cup with brown liquid was served minus a spoon which I was told was an Americano, I don't know what it was but it certainly wasn't an Americano, so that was sent back and a replacement was not required.Sarters and mains were ordered and after a considerable wait the starters arrived, now they looked fine and a reasonable portion , however both my wife and mine were served on freezing cold plates and as both has sauces it was congealed with the cold. I refused the starters and explained to the young waiter what the problem was , I don't think he fully grasped what I was saying as I explained hot food should not be served on a stone cold plate , irrespective of the small salad accompaniment. My only solution was to leave and hopefully the waiter / cook/ chef /staff could embark on food presentation standards which would help immensely .I have been told by others the food quality and prices is to a decent standard ,but I'm afraid once bitten, does it merit another chance on this showing unfortunately not.

Thought I would give this place one last chance as he food is nice but like every time we are here the service is appalling. Waited over an hour for food again, which on this occasion wasn't even worth the wait. Even ordering a drink was a challenge on this occasion. This was my last ever visit.

Went in for supper just before 7pm on Saturday night, were asked if had booked a table which we hadn’t but being just the two of us and place empty didn’t think would be a problem however was told would need to check with kitchen first! Wasn’t sure if they had stopped serving! Anyway got a table. Both of us asked for half portions (as stated available on menu) Meal was nice. Went to pay - charged full price despite asking for half portions! Was told get standard size portion and they just give bit less chips! Never experienced that before! Card machine had no signal for us to pay! Was made to feel like us at fault after they asked us to pay with cash- which we didn’t have on us! Was told would have to go down road to ATM and come back to pay with the cash -again made to feel like our problem! Overall disappointing and not sure we will be in any hurry to return.

Visited on a Thursday evening, they have a great value menu on with 2 courses for £10. I had garlic bread and chicken fillets, my husband haggis bon bons and a chilli bowl. Food was really good. They didn’t have the dessert I wanted otherwise we would have gone for 3 courses. Nice treat on a Thursday!

The staff seemed to be under a lot of pressure and no one seemed to be in charge. Even didn’t know what the soup of the day was and had to go back and ask. Apparently that was the only special even though they advertised that there was specials on that day. Two of us waited an hour and a half to eat and they had to change it cause they were wrong. Having to opt for burgers for Sunday dinner was not my plan but because everything we wanted was finished two of us had to do that. No roast dinners on menu. Menu to us didn’t have enough choices.Tables took ages to be cleared of glasses and we had to ask for one drink after 10 mins of others being served. Give them their due though, we were given a round of drinks on the house. The guys seemed to enjoy their meals but really the ladies burgers, I could have done better myself. Table was booked and we were there for 6.30pm, Us two women decided not to have pudding because of everything and we eventually left after 9.15pm. Not really a pleasurable experience

Friendly, attentive staff. Clean, welcoming. Some items on menu not actually available or changed. Felt warm when we went in but as evening went on started to feel chilly.

An Old style Pub brought up to date with tasty food served in a clean and bright restaurant area, the food choices are not vast, but are locally sourced,fresh and cooked to order. Combine this with reasonable pricing and friendly service, an establishment well worth supporting, and making the effort to visit and enjoy.. The burgers are a treat, and the fish very good. real chips double fried are a wonderful thing.

Had a great meal here, not sure about the chopping boards the steak was served on I’d much prefer a plate for hygiene reasons.

4 of us showed - nice atmosphere, realy good food and service, staff very friendly and well priced - couldn't think about doing the challenge tho - no chance !

I have been to the Brucklay Arms twice and have tried the 1 foot burger challenge both times, the second attempt was successful! The food is actually really good and the place has a great atmosphere.

I was recommended to try this restaurant, so Wednesday saw myself and three friends visit. The entrance at the side leads into a clean medium sized room and when we arrived there were several people already in. The one waitress Leah was doing a grand job of keeping things running smoothly. We were attended to quickly and given menus which proved to have loads of choices ( note most of the dishes can be either small or regular, priced accordingly) We noticed that the owners were trying to give people options and one of them is Wed, Thurs and Friday between 5 and 8 pensioners can have a three course meal for £9:95. Now cheap is not always good, but we decided to give it a try. To say I was delighted with my choice is an understatement, it was very good food and the portions were still quite big and satisfying . We had a bit to wait for our mains to arrive but that certainly did not spoil our enjoyment of the whole experience. I think most people visit early as by the time we were leaving there was only two people left. The chef came out to see if we had enjoyed our meals, I know I am old as she looked a young slip of a girl, but she can certainly cook well. I also visited the toilets and they were clean and modern. Am I glad we went, definitely, will I go back, definitely , and would I recommend others to go DEFINITELY. I think the owners are doing all they can in this economic climate to encourage people to visit and I would say they deserve all the success that they get.

Visited with family for a birthday lunch. Food was excellent, some family members had never been here before and were very impressed with the quality of the food. Special offers are "steak night" on a Wednesday, kids eat free on certain days/times, themed buffet menu on last Friday of the month. Excellent food with first class service! Highly recommend!

Really disappointed with the meal. Broth had no liquid, you could have eaten it with a fork and knife. Fish was overcooked but still managed to be cold. Won't be going back any time soon.

Having visited this venue a year ago and enjoyed it, we decided to come again. How wrong we were. We were met by very unwelcoming staff, who didn’t smile the whole time we were there. We were taken to our table and left with menus. No offer of specials or explanation of any deals etc. We could see other tables had a specials menu, so I asked a member of staff who was passing if we could get one and he just looked and me as if I was stupid and the table next to us offered their one to us. We ordered our meals and they were well presented and hot, so no complaints with them or the desserts, however the service was not good, in that the staff were not engaging with customers, just merely a chore for us to be there. We asked for coffees as nobody was clearing out dessert plates away for some time and was told abruptly that no coffees are to be served as there was a function away to start and tables had to be cleared. This was at 8.45pm, having booked our meal at 7.30pm and she promptly dumped a bill on the table and started moving tables etc around us. At no point were we told that there was a function on later and we would have to vacate our table. They wanted us out and that was that. The function was an open event and we could have stayed but she made it clear we were not welcome, so we left and went to another venue. Customer service skills zero and we will not be back, which is such a shame as the food was very good and reasonably priced!

Third time we've been for family meals. Always fab food and great, friendly service! Highly recommended!!

We visited the Brucklay Arms last night for a birthday meal, my wife and I's first visit, but a restaurant my parents come to frequently and have continually told us we should try having recently moved to the area.

It's my local pub. Great food and friendly staff.

Good food and service, loved the whitebait stater, reduced size portion was more than enough for me.

Comidas, absolutamente esposo la Brucklay burger, absolutamente enorme, 2 enormes hamburguesas, tocino, enormes aros de cebolla en pasta en una pelea que se sirve con ensalada y patatas fritas. Tuve la porción más pequeña de eglefino morney, tenía 7 tipos diferentes de verduras con patatas y además todos perfectamente cocinada. La mayoría de las comidas tienen una opción de "porción" más pequeñas a un precio reducido, pero aún así vale la pena tener. Hotel rural encantador con opciones especiales ofrecen una noche de noche carne una semana, noche temática viernes una vez al mes y comidas gratis para niños disponible en determinados momentos. Muy buen servicio.

Fuimos al azar para una comida. El servicio fue rápido, amable y eficiente, la comida era fantástica (raciones enormes, no podía soportar el postre, aunque vimos algunos postres). Disfrutamos especialmente los entrantes "blaggis" (Black Pudding y chutney de remolacha haggis) con champiñones y stilton.

Hicimos dos amigos a este restaurante para comer hace un par de semanas, y sin duda no nos decepcionó.

Staff lovely and prompt, food was lovely and cooked fresh. Great deal as little one ate and drank for free during week.. enjoyable meal out will deffo be back.

the meal was good but no scampi and no cheese cake though both of these were on the menu and we were there for six oclock with a booked table so quite disappointed nothing wrong with food great as always but have had better meals thanks

Fuimos un miércoles por la noche y estaba sorprendentemente lleno. Zona de comedor no tiene en absoluto lo que esperaba de un pub del pueblo rom. Un buen comedor: falta el ambiente de un pub, pero muy limpia y espaciosa. Menú con opciones de porciones grandes habituales o más pequeña. También un menú de especialidades. Las porciones eran enormes! Mi marido tiene el filete que ofrecen una buena relación calidad-precio a 10 libras (salsa extra salsa diane muy inusual. Mornay) Mi abadejo era magnífico y acompañada con tantas verduras - judías verdes, gestionar tout, coliflor, nabo, zanahoria, brócoli, calabaza y de patatas fritas, ¡por supuesto! Ambos tuvimos postre terminada él comida bien. La comida es preparada a la orden y posibles retrasos son advertidos de en el menú. No tengo mucho tiempo para esperar, pero el chef vino a disculparse. Lo recomiendo y sin duda volveremos.

Really good food and service despite being really busy. Food so good would have forgiven a wait as was obviously all fresh.

Been here 3 times in the last 3 months as it is just around the corner so very handy. Last visit 3 weeks ago and the food was very good, very fresh produce, good selection of drinks and good value for money. 4 adults, 2 courses and couple of drinks each and was just over £90. Good selection of meals for kids as well. If you go then make sure you are hungry as the portions are generous especially the fish!. Only downside is the each time we have been it has taken about an hour to get our main courses so a little on the slow side. Small price to pay for good food but not so easy when you have small kids to keep busy whilst waiting.

popped in on a saturday evening about 6pm (did not have a table booked)although we got a table for 2 - the place was fairly busy & most tables had reserved signs on them......a GREAT selection of FOOD.......i noticed that most dishes had 2 prices beside them - i suppose that was for SMALLER portions...... we just ordered 2 mains......STEAK & STILTON PIE -- a large pot of steak & gravy with some stilton cheese crumbled on top - TOPPED it a LARGE puff pastry lid , chips & peas - LOVELY (£12)SMOKED HADDOCK - a LARGE fish on a few pieces of BLACK PUDDING , chips & veg - VERY NICE (£14)a couple of drinks & the bill came to £31....GREAT VALUE !!

Lovely pub with great staff and a comprehensive menu. Offer reduced size portions which is ideal for people who don't want a massive meal and waste food.Steak night on a Wednesday is excellent value for money and definitely worth going. Puddings are far too tempting!!

Went here last night with some friends. Hadn't been for a while. It was as good as ever. Straight forward home cooking. Large portions and loads of vegetables. Not exotic menu but great plain good well cooked and served. The service was good and attentive. Will be back. Used to go regularly but the menu does not change often. They now have a steak night on a Wednesday and a curry night once a month which should be good.

Went here for a meal with my girlfriend. At first couldn't find the entrance but it's just to the right of the building. Our starter of garlic bread was excellent and salad was amazing according to my girlfriend. Very well priced for the quality of food! If anything you pay less for more.I had the Brucklay Burger and wow what a size of a meal it was. Was very good and very big portion size. Girlfriend had a chicken meal but was sadly let down a bit as it didn't taste like what we are used to. Nothing wrong with it just purely down to taste over the quality of food but food was cooked and prepared very well. Will definitely be back again to possibly try the burger challenge!

Been many times, always excellent quality food and servers are always chatty and friendly. You just have to try the chocolate fudge cake! Well worth travelling down from Banff for!

Very good pub grub here, ended up with 3 courses. Liked the fact that you could go any time on Sunday afternoon, the kid who served us in the restaurant was very good.

Have been to the Brucklay quite a few times for evening meals as it is pretty local to me. Have enjoyed it every time. Been with a small group of friends, a large group of friends, family meal and as a couple with my boyfriend. Love the option to have a reduced portion.

Have now visited here a number of times and can genuinely say I can't fault it! Food is always perfect and the puddings are truly scrumptious. Staff are always polite and chatty and give a relaxed atmosphere. It's not the cheapest place to eat but if your looking for a decent plateful of good quality food then you must try it!! Can't wait to go back

Second visit, gave it an another chance as had to wait nearly an hour last time for our food! Staff are friendly & took our orders quickly. Wide variety on the menu & when we finally got our food 45+ mins later food was really tasty. We did get an apology saying that the kitchen was really busy! (which is the same reason as last time) A senior member of staff keeping the food coming & going quicker wouldnt go amiss in this place! Sorry folks good food & puddings but better service from other restaurants in the area.....

Visited with my family this weekend and the food was excellent, both kids and adult meals! 5 stars all round, well worth a visit!

After a long day at work my boyfriend decided to take me here after booking a table we set off. Bit trickey to find but maps soon sorted that after arriving we noticed it was really busy but didnt stop the waiteress being attentive. We both had starters which were lovley then mains meal was gorgeous and worth the wait we had. We then decided to had pudding too which was to die for all in all for two 3 course meals 2 soft drinks and 2 and a half pints £50 is really good value will be back.

We were staying locally and had heard that the Brucklay Arms was good place for an evening meal. We were not disappointed. It was a busy Friday evening, so we had a small wait for a table (we hadn't booked). The menu had a good range, and offered a reduced portion rate. We all opted for burgers with a variety of toppings, which were very tasty and even the reduced portion sizes were still generous. Even though it was very busy we didn't feel neglected, and there was a friendly atmosphere.We had a very pleasant evening and would definitely return again

I have been here many times as I live near the village, I have never had a bad word to say about the place...until now. I booked a table here for a birthday celebration. My husband the day before had put banners, table confetti and cake into the place the day before so the table could be decorated. On arrival my husband asked the waitress (the same one he delivered the decorations to) if the banners etc were ready. The reply was What banners??? So a ten minute wait while that was done. My husband asked for the Brucklay Challenge only to be told that he couldn't have it as it had to be pre-ordered on a Saturday as it took up to much room on the grill. How ridiculous!! The starters arrived, my husband and I shared the Americano Platter which we have had before. We ordered again as last time it was lovely however this time it was disappointing. Everything just seemed overcooked.After our meal my husband reminded the waitress about the cake, she said that she would bring it out next. We waited and waited and waited. We had an 11 month old child with us who was quite rightly getting grumpy by this point. After 30-45 min wait we decided to get up to go...until we saw the waitress finally arrive with the cake. Apparently the kitchen was busy. I was so disappointed with this visit. The service was terrible, so slow and they kept saying the place was busy, well it certainly wasn't full, I dread to think of service if it was. The meal was certainly not up to the previous standards. Doubt I'll be going back.

Went here for a meal for my daughter Keri's 30th birthday. Been before and had no fault. This time so different. First of all, no one had put up the banners or the confetti on table that her husband Craig had put in the day before. That had to be sorted before we went in. Gave the starter order. I chose the home smoked pheasant thinking it would be a nice change. The plate that came was disappointing and unappetising. That was said by a few around the table. The pheasant was bits not even slices, cold obviously just out fridge. It should be room temperature and definitely didn't taste of anything. So for the mains, Craig ordered the Brucklay Challenge to be told you can't have that. Really? The excuse was that there was not enough room on the grill on a Saturday night. Nowhere does it say they don't do it on a Saturday. Worse was that he had starved himself all day and had a huge cycle to prepare for this. He had a mixed grill which had more on it than what the Brucklay challenge had. My husband and I had chicken Maryland. The chicken was dry and overdone. The banana fritter had obviously been recooked was tough and quite unappetising. The service overall was terrible for drinks and food. We opted not to go for sweets. By now we had been in for two hours. Six of us. The place not exactly heaving. So we sat thinking that the bill had been ordered. Half an hour later, enough was enough we got up to go, lo and behold the cupcakes that Craig had dropped off the day before to be brought out appeared as we were about to go. The excuse was the kitchen was manic. Well I dread to think how it would be if the place had been busy. Not impressed. Be warned people. They don't do the challenge on a Saturday night. Won't be back

A party of 6 of us booked to have a Saturday night meal.... and just as well we booked as the place was almost full when we arrived and quickly filled up! Friendly and welcoming staff greeted and seated us. Nice surroundings, clean and modern but comfortable and cosy feeling.We had a bit of a wait for the food to be served but it wasn't excessive and just what you expect when food is cooked to order. We ordered various things from New York Chicken, Scampi, Mixed Grill, Surf N Turf etc. Food was fresh, hot, tasty and came in generous portions! None of us could fault any of our meals except for 3 of us had Homemade Mandarin Cheesecake... the portions were once again generous and presented nicely but all of us who tasted the cheesecake found it to be very cheesy with no flavour of mandarins at all except for the slice of mandarin on the top. .. I am not even sure that there were mandarins in the cheesecake at all! Other than this we could not fault anything at all. The chef came to our table at the end of our meal to see if everything was satisfactory and had a wee blether. I thought this was a nice touch and noticed he did it with some of the other diners. We will be back!

We went without booking on a Thursday evening just after 5pm. There was nobody else eating at the time so the 3 of us got the pick of tables. Cassi our waitress was very efficient and helpful. The mother-in-law was with us, which can be quite challenging, and Cassi was very patient with her. My husband and I had the battered mushrooms first, which was different as they are usually in breadcrumbs. They were very nice with a side salad. I had Maryland chicken as a mains, which I could not finish. Mu husband had pork fillets which he enjoyed, and the mother-in-law had a small portion of Caribbean chicken, which was quite large, but she ate it! For dessert we had the hot chocolate pudding with fresh cream. Very delicious. We were not rushed at all. We would go back next time we are in Scotland.

This is something of a hidden gem for people who haven't heard about it.Walking through the doors, you'll meet some of the most welcoming locals and staff in Aberdeenshire.Portions are generous and pricing is competitive. For the more adventurous of us out there, there are food challenges, but I definitely wouldn't recommend them if you're out for a nice evening meal.The interior, meanwhile, is modern and quite classy.Our last visit was a party of four. I had the macaroni, which was delicious, while everyone else had burgers. They had no complaints.

Another return trip to Brucklay, in expectation of good wholesome dining in this part of the world - on a Friday night early, the place was busy, but we enjoyed very pleasant and efficient service, excellent starter and main course, with drinks - the staff coped very well with the steady influx of customers giving the dining area an enjoyable noise of chat and laughter! As Brucklay is on our Premium Card listings, it is definitely one of our stops around the Buchan area. If visiting this part of the world, stop and enjoy!
