Ardennan House Hotel Restaurant in Aberdeenshire

We went to have lunch to celebrate a qualification my youngest daughter achieved recently. Although we have stayed in the inverurie area for over 40years this was our first visit to the hotel. We would class our visit and meal as exceptional. My daughter and I shared the Sunday lunch platter with additional cauliflower and cheese and pigs in blankets whilst my wife the vegetarian nut roast. The food was to the highest standard and freshly cooked. I finished with the pineapple crumble which again was first class. The staff were pleasant and attentive. Let's say it will not be another 40 years before we return.

Have been here before in a group for “ private dining “ and wasn’t impressed then , but have to say it was much better this time . Would definitely say menu has improved and food was tasty , hot and attractively served. Husband had fillet steak and said it was perfectly cooked. I had stuffed chicken served with a Tuscan sauce ( which I wasn’t sure I’d like , so got it served on the side … but it was soon all over the Chicken!) Pleasant service and much more atmosphere in the dining room than the ‘private dining room” Reasonable prices and good portion sizes . (But I did think £2.50 for a small glass of soda water was OTT!)

We dined in thier lovely restaurant. Portions were generous and tasted absolutely fantastic. Cocktails were nice, staff were lovely. Highly reccomend a visit to eat 😋

We were heading to Aberdeen for a show last Friday and our friend suggested that we try Ardennan House Hotel for a meal as it was delicious. I have travelled the A96 for the last 30 years and at no point would I have ever though to stop for a meal as it has either looked closed or a bit run down - my mistake. Now I am not sure if it has always be as good as it was on Friday but trust me when I say it - you must visit Ardennan House Hotel as it was delicious. The food, decor and the staff were all excellent. A great selection of meals on the menu and all 4 meals we had on Friday were delicious. It is a lovely dining room with an excellent atmosphere. The service has to be some of the best we have experienced in recent years - this includes holidays to USA, Turkey, Eygpt, Spain, Ireland and of course other parts of the UK. We live locally, so this review is for the restaurant only. We had a lovely evening meal - steak and black pudding pie, roasted carrots, chips ( you could also chose mash), and even although we were full up, decided to try the pumpkin spiced apple crumble which was absolutely delicious. Although the restaurant was busy, the service was spot on.

A brilliant hotel with great food and very close to Inverurie. The rooms can be a little sparse depending on where you are, but can't fault the cleanliness of them, nor complain about the beds as they are exceedingly comfortable. The food they serve is fantastic, and I was lucky enough to have been there long eno8gh to try most things on the menu.

What a lovely family run hotel the staff couldn't do enough for you very professional, the food was amazing and reasonably priced, the rooms are immaculate, warm and comfortable I would recommend you give this wee place a visit if you're ever up this way

Food was excellent. The tables are too close together which leads to people bumping when passing . Service was quite disorganised and different staff we asking us the same questions for drinks / desserts . One dessert never arrived . If the staff received more customer service training then this has the potential to be the best restaurant in Inverurie. The food is amazing and great portions.

Had a lovely meal and service was good

We had dinner here last night whilst staying at the hotel. Staff were super friendly, food was exceptional, the pricing was really good. Glad we got in early as the restaurant soon packed out, and we weren’t surprised given how tasty it all was. If I’m ever to come to Aberdeen again I’d 100% be visiting here for food.

After a bad experience in a hotel in a neighbouring town, this was the complete opposite. Such a nice staff, a lot was possible for us. Did not even have to think about it, just 'yes'. The food was delicious, dinner and breakfast. I tasted all the dishes from our group, all as delicious as the previous. I would definitely come back.

Unfortunately can’t comment on rooms, however, the restaurant is absolutely lovely. Food is always made to a high standard and delicious, the staff go above and beyond and deserve their own review for how much they do! Such a hidden wee gem. Will always be one of my favorites in the shire. 🙌🏻

A delicious meal at a reasonable price

We went for a meal at Ardennan, didn't not stay at the hotel, so cannot comment on that. The food and service was exceptional, super delicious and finished every plate. Wait for it was an average time. No fancy drinks menu, usual stuff is available. Enjoyed it and definitely would come back.

We were her for dinner and the food was excellent and the staff were very good at their job. Warm friendly and very helpful. Our meals were excellent five star plus from us ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Visited Ardennan for Mother’s Day. Food and service was fantastic, highly recommend there Sunday roast sharing board!

Fantastic little hidden gem. Service was above and beyond as was the food. Staff are attentive, polite yet charming and witty. The meals were absolutely outstanding and the portions were bigger than expected. Very reasonably priced menu and and will definitely return in the future. If you're a steak fan, highly recommend the Fillet rare! Or the salt and chilli chicken.

Have been working in Huntly and we choose to stay at the Ardennan as the atmosphere is relaxed and food in the restaurant is really good. Friendly staff and comfortable rooms. Would highly recommend going for food.

Attended a family get together here . Very pleasant decor and surroundings and pleasant staff. Our party chose a variety of meals from the quite limited menu ( too much seafood / fish!) I had Camembert which was absolutely lovely and cooked to perfection . However ,my second course was “ crispy chicken with a chilli sauce “ and I was bitterly disappointed with it . Chicken was soggy - nothing “ crispy “ about it .Sauce was quite pleasant - very sweet and sticky as honey based and I was glad I had asked for it on the side as a little went a long way. The rice was fine , but could have been hotter but the “ chips “ I wouldn’t class as chips at all . They were more potato wedges , and again soggy and not at all crispy nor hot enough. Very disappointed with main course. I didn’t have a dessert but the others did and they looked lovely and most were pleased with them .

Ardennan tonight for dinner. Lovely. Haggis samosa and scallops for starters. Delicious! For mains I'm told the venison stroganoff was first class as was my buttermilk fried chicken. Managed to squeeze in a lovely desert too! Excellent food and service.

Last minute booking for Sunday lunch, the place was very busy but the staff were very efficient, helpful and friendly. We were initially going for carvery but their menu was so tempting we all had something different. Couldn’t fault the food it was absolutely delicious - we will certainly be back the next time we get down from Shetland- highly recommended

Myself and wife were out celebrating our anniversary, decided we wanted to go here as we had heard about how good the cocktails were. Phoned in advance to book a table to be told we only serve those who buy food with a drink, very rude condescending woman on the phone. Won’t ever visit here if that’s the case, out to get as much money off you they can.

Food was ok, menu was alright but they seem to think its a 5 star.Chicken stroganoff was strange, a chicken breast with stroganoff sauce rather than the chicken being cut up in bits. The sauce itself was average and not enough of it, it gets sucked up by the rice in no time. It wasn't awful, just not brilliant.Chips were dark brown and soggy. The steak flatbread is very expensive for what is basically a cheap cut of steak on a flatbread, so you could buy yourself for a fiver.Like I said, not bad but not super. Last time I went it was a LOT better and that was August 2020.

This was my first visit to Ardennan Restaurant and I went with friends for lunch on Sun 25 JulyThe staff were friendly & welcoming on arrival and service was great.Plenty of choice on the menu and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food. My steak flatbread was delicious and a very generous plateful!Lovely decor inside and theres a seating area outside too.We will definitely return to try some of the other food we liked the sound of on their menu!

We booked a table three weeks in advance for our wedding anniversary. We waited 20 minutes to order. After 30 minutes more we asked if there was any sign of our 6 year olds dinner to be told there was only one chef working. The waitress said she’d check with the chef and revert, she didn’t bother. An hour after we arrived we left without having had dinner! It wasn’t like we’d walked in off the street either!

The Ardennan House has a comfortable restaurant with a good varied menu and friendly efficient service. A great place to eat when in the area.

Visited for a sit in meal before lockdown. Food was good, but I ordered a vegetarian option and recieved the beef mince option. Was disappointed a table was seated in the last available table only 1m away from our table so we quickly left as we're uncomfortable sitting in this location.

Excellent dinner with sizzling steak on a hot platter with delicious chips,tomatoes,onion rings and mushrooms. Service great,ambiance lovely. Will be back and definitely recommend.

Really disappointed from the pictures that are advertised. Short of food for the group, placed far away then food was supposed to be passed down the table. Cold tea and coffee, and not available on the table, long wait for drinks. Lots of bought in cakes, not home made! Not very much savoury foods, burger has no taste and dry. Very expensive , not value for money

Excellent warm friendly welcome, attentive staff. Offered children colouring pens/paper. Nice relaxed ambiance with tasteful music. Wide range of menu. Picky family if 5 we all cleared our plates, delicious starter, main & tried to make a little room for desert (generous portions throughout) when your kids shout that was the best lunch ever... you know it’s good!! Would highly recommend & already booked our next visit. No pics as we were to eager to eat.

I had never been here before and just randomly picked it out as it was nearby a family member. We drove up and there was plenty of space to park the car. First impressions inside were really positive. The restaurant looks very fresh and modern. We were greeted by a very polite young woman who took us to the table. Watching other customers get their food my belly was rumbling as the food looked so good. Happily I can report it also tastes great. We were all delighted with the food. We all agreed that the real handcut chips are brilliant. Honestly these are up there with the best chips ever! Absolutely no complaints from any of us. Lovely food, service and setting. You guys have this place exactly as it should be. We will be back.

The menu is varied and has so many appealing options to choose from! All of our meals were delicious, great quality & value for money.

We went for a colleagues’ leaving meal. There were 7 of us. The meals were served quite prompt but without being rushed. The food was delicious, staff were polite and friendly and cost was in keeping with the standard of service. I will most definitely recommend.

Stopped at The Ardennan Restaurant on our way back from Aberdeen for lunch , the restaurant was already busy with guests and we were quickly shown to our table , starters arrived promptly and were well presented and tasted superb , main courses arrived and again the presentation was brilliant and tasted superb , highly recommend The Ardennan and we will definatly be visiting again when we are passing

I would recommend trying this hotel for a meal. I intend to return in the near future. Taste of food lovely. Meal piping hot. Quantity and quality could not be faulted in any way. Service and surroundings pleasant. Staff efficient but pleasant. Soft drinks not overly priced at this hotel. A must if you enjoy good food.

Burger Night when we visited, but a varied menu in addition. Cullen Skink as good as I've tasted, and healthy portions all round.

I am a regular visitor to the Ardennan Restaurant for dinner and it's consistently excellent. The food is lovely, of high quality and very well presented. The staff are always very attentive, polite and friendly.

We enjoyed a delicious Sunday Roast lunch at the Ardennan Hotel Restaurant on a cold January day, such good value, served with a smile in very pleasant surroundings. Good homestyle cooking, with a choice of meats (or a bit of both) and all the trimmings. Excellent choice of desserts too, so leave room! We would definitely return!

We enjoyed our evening, efficient and friendly service in a relaxed atmosphere with well cooked and presented quality food. Decent wine at reasonable prices. Will definitely return.

Four of us dined here after a fair gap since last time and the quality has fallen of a cliff. Initial service was good got to table quickly and drinks order taken quickly and delivered OK even if there was one error. Ordered starters and mains and then waited 40 minutes for starters to be delivered. Problems with the mains in that wife specifically didn't want spice on the salmon but acceptable by the side which even though explained to the waitress at ordering when delivered turned out to be a spice infused salmon steak... Ok they replaced with a non marinated but that resulted in not eating together time wise. Steak quality was very poor (Sirloin) ordered medium rare and served somewhere between medium and well done with the resultant shoe leather texture. Risotto listed as Prawn and Chorizo but no Chorizo. All in all portion size was large, service was friendly with good front of house not being matched by what comes from the kitchen so will not be back.

Ate Sunday lunch from a choice of a la carte or special Xmas menu. Our party chose from both and no one was disappointed. Choice, quality and presentation of food was very good and service was adequately attentive without being intrusive. Pleasant surroundings and reasonable value. We would return. Facilities for disabled were fine.

We booked the restaurant and input the post code into our sat nav and finished up a mile from restaurant. Luckily Google Maps led us to it. It is a lovely quaint hotel with absolutely delicious food. We had travelled from Middlesbrough to visit family and all 7 of us agreed this is a place you must visit if you like good food, great service and friendly staff.

Met with a friend for something to eat in the evening. This place did not disappoint. There is a varied menu with specials each day. As this was a Tuesday there was an opportunity to have 3 tapas for the price of 2. The tapas on offer were great but so were the special courses for the day. We opted for a main course each with the idea that dessert would come after main courses. The chicken special was quickly eaten by my friend throughout our conversation whilst my penne pasta also went down a treat. We managed to eat the main courses before considering dessert but realised we could share a cheese board with coffees. The place was remarkably busy and we could understand why. The food was good. Will be back again as this is a central point for both of us to travel too.

First visit here and won’t be last. Had the roast beef and it was very tasty - 3 big slices, a big Yorkshire pudding, skirlie, roast & boiled tatties, beans, broccoli and carrots. Lovely place and staff.

We have had a meal twice at the Ardennen in recent months, on both occasions I have had the fillet steak, best steak I have had for a long time. Great food and nice staff.

Table of 6 we all had a well presented and lovely meal. Food all fresh cooked. The only down side was portions was on the small side for the price.

Attended here for a birthday meal a few weekends ago. We were seated promptly and our drinks order taken shortly after. The drinks came quickly. The restaurant was quite busy. Unfortunately we had to wait an hour for our food and only got this after asking where it was. If there was an issue in the kitchen it would have been better to be communicated to us. A table which came in 30 mins after us had their food long before us!

In Inverurie for the weekend and have been here before for dinner: this time we found the meal slightly disappointing the dinning room was very busy with no vacant seats with regards to the service it was very slow to start with when the food did arrive it was a bit on the tasteless side my husband had a Chicken Balti which was really just Chicken with tomato sauce no curry taste. We will not rush back on our next visit to the town

Good Christmas meal with friends. Staff were nice and very accommodating. I'd return in the future as the food could not be faulted. The dining room is also lovely decorated.

Ardennan is a hidden gem. The food and service has always been great the past few times I’ve been. Wouldn’t hesitate to go back. Definitely a firm favourite!

This place does not pretend to be fine dining nor does it charge high cost. So one should moderate ones expectation of what one would be served. However even with a lowering of the bar the food was abysmal. First time I have encountered Brushetta...

We turned up without any great expectation and were blown away by exceptional meal and service. It took a little while as a large party arrived before us but we were kept informed and apologised to. When it arrived it was wonderful.

Lovely food and really nice staff. Nice atmosphere. Liked it very much and will go again. I thought that the price indicated a fairly bog standard Christmas night experinece. So wrong. Excellent food. Chef needs a pat on the back. Front of house staff very welcoming and pleasant.

Have visited Ardennan on quite a few occasions and the quality is always quite consistent. The fillet steaks are very nice but I am not a big fan of the brown chunky chips and think its time that these were changed for a decent chip, but everything else in nice with a good menu choice. Some of the seats will give you bum ache and these need to be changed or ask for a cushion. But overall a nice restaurant with nice food and nice staff. Give it a try!!

Visited for the first time recently for a Sunday evening meal. The menu is varied and reasonably priced. Service was pleasant and efficient. And the food was very well prepared and tasted excellent. The only complaint I would have is that the car park was incredibly icy. A venue such as this should treat the car park so that patrons and hotel guests do not slip. It was like an ice rink. Other than that, I would have awarded 5 stars.

Visited the Hotel Saturday night with some friends who came down from Wick for the night, am sure I can speak for us all but the food and service was outstanding. Well done to all

First time we have been to Ardennan & we definitely won't be back. To start with my husbands orange just tasted off so we sent it back. 3 of us had the Sunday carvery & the beef was so chewy it completely inedible. My mum had the beef stroganoff & it was exactly the same, she couldn't chew or swallow it. My husband had the haddock & chips. The haddock was 'mushy' in the middle with soggy batter. My daughter had the kids sausages & chips and they were the cheapest (Richmond type) sausages and apart from all that the food was all completely tasteless. We couldn't believe it after the great reviews it gets on TripAdvisor. We decided to skip dessert since all of our main meals had been horrendous. They gave us one of the meals for free, but we definitely won't be back.

Visited the Ardennan after making a last minute decision on somewhere to eat with friends. From the second we arrived we were made to feel welcome by the lovely staff. Our meal was served in good time, was hot and delicious with good sized portions. The staff were friendly, willing and chatty. I would definitely return.

Visited the restaurant last night 20th October for the first time and we were not disappointed , the food was excellent, the staff were efficient and friendly , and the restaurant had a lovely relaxing atmosphere. We will definitely be back .

We booked the hotel for three nights to attend a wedding and were taken aback at how good the food was in the restaurant. This was a bonus as we hadn't really planned on eating there. Menu choice was excellent and the food cooked and served quickly with helpful and engaged staff.

Fantastic food, fantastic service, fantastic staff. Visited here with friends and family and although we all had different dishes from the menu everyone was delighted with their meal. I started with scallops and black pudding, then baked cod with creamy mash and asparagus, finishing off with vanilla ice cream with an espresso liquore poured over the top. This is one of the nicest meals I have ever eaten. We also had time between courses, which is ideal and enabled us to relax rather than feel hurried as can be the case in some other restaurants. At the end of the meal the owners came over to thank us for our custom and chat to us, all extremely pleasant. If you want a very good meal that doesn't cost the earth I would certainly recommend you go to Ardennan House Hotel Restuarant.

Easy to get to as its well sign posted, lovely staff, nice decor inside and the food was incredible! I would recommend the Friday night as you get 20% of the burgers and steaks.

Visited for the first time, having been told there was a Sunday Carvery. Whilst there is no actual carvery, Roasts of the day are available and on the day my husband and I chose beef and chicken, served with a selection of fresh garden vegetables all cooked to perfection - not a frozen pea in sight!!! our guest had 'Posh Scampi' and all the trimmings and it looked beautiful.....she said it tasted beautiful!the surroundings are attractive and comfortable and as the room filled, it wasn't too noisy and didn't detract from the ambience. The staff are really pleasant and cheerful, yet discreet. We will definitely be making a return visit - think I'll choose posh scampi next time! BTW - prices aren't ridiculous either.

This restaurant was actually recommended to me by a local lady, I was so glad that I took her recommendation. But be aware it is slightly out of the way ... as you drive down the road, you do think ... is this it ?Also from the outside it did look a little dated, but inside it has been re-vamped - phweff. Top tip ... ask for a cushion as the seating is lumpy ! The service can be a touch slow ... but if you want fast food ... try a takeaway.You'll be wondering how this place got a good from me ? The food ... that was the saving grace. Well worth the wait. Presentation perfect and taste, the chef smashed it.My dining companion was grumbling about length of time between courses and that the staff were not as attentive as they should have been. But the wait gave us time to chat and we were able to really enjoy our meals properly, when they came.If you like good food and can stand to chat a while, whist savouring a well made cocktail and a good bottle of wine, this is a good place to be.

This is an excellent restaurant and I would thoroughly recommend it. I had the Venison steak with mash, it was delicious.I had the sharing platter to start, which consisted of haggis spring rolls, mozzarella bon bons and nachos. Again this was very good. The lady who served us provided great service to our large party. Everyone in our party complemented the food. We visited on Saturday evening on 19/08.

Had evening meal booked for 7pm Restaurant very busy on arrival Very short of staff & we had to call for them for menus, drinks, take our order etc. Eventually got mains at 8 20pm Food was good but far too many people for staffing levels. Got monotonous attempting to get a waitress's attention. We had booked well in advance so was rather disappointed.

This was just awful. The staff were disinterested and rushed off their feet. The restaurant food was ok. The room was in an annex and it was tiny, about seven feet wide. It was clean enough however the bed had seen better days and I'm sure it was damp. Although I was meant to get breakfast on Sunday morning there was nobody there at all when I left at 9:30 am. I would have complained at this time had anyone been there to check me out. I'm reasonably sure nobody was staying in the main building as all the room keys seemed to be hanging up at the reception and there were only three cars in the car park. I can't understand why I was put in the cell.

Arrived at the restaurant and found the staff to be very friendly. Ordered 2 x posh haddock and chips. On arrival the fish looked okay but the chips were chunky looking, brown in colour and undercooked. The fish batter was soft and each portion of fish contained bones. This was the worst fish and chips I have ever had the misfortune to attempt to eat. Needless to say the fish was not totally consumed.Will not return here again.

Had an amazing meal here for our Valentines. All 3 course were faultless and we can't wait to go back! Would highly recommend!

We stopped by chance on Sunday evening and asked the waitress if there was a table for 4 available she checked and came back and showed us to a table within minutes of sitting down another waitress came along and asked us to leave as the table had not been available at all she said they were fully booked I have never been so embarrassed needless to say we won't be stopping in past again

Loved our visit here hadn't been for a while but it was just as good as we remembered. Great choice of menu and cocktails. Food was perfectly cooked I had lamb and my friend had a burger which came with a lovely variety of sides and she particularly liked the sweet potato chips. Dessert was so good I had the trio such a good idea you get to try more and they were delicious, my friend had a sticky toffee sundae which she wasn't sure about but loved it. Service was great as usual warm and friendly. Will be back soon.

Really enjoy going to the Ardennan; great menu, atmosphere and service. Children's menu is particularly well thought out and excellent value.

Thanks to the staff who looked after our large group so well recently. Our table of 20 was catered for quickly and with no problems. The staff were swift to deal with any additional requests and we were given plenty of time to enjoy a relaxed meal.
