We booked quite last minute, and the friendly waitress accommodated 8 of us for dinner. The service was great, all staff are super friendly. I would say that we waited a good 35 minutes for our food, but once we received it WOW! it was amazing. I recommend the chicken fajitas and steak and ale pie. There is an excellent kids menu with lots of variety. The only issue was choosing what to order as there were lots and lots of great options. The bugers looked amazing, and my husband had the duo of fish and he said it was delicious. We will definitely be back!

Myself and my wife tried this place, eventually. Overall first impression was so so, tbh. Took an age to be seen to, wasn’t sure where we should actually go. When we eventually went in, took an age to be served, wasn’t that busy. Maybe the staff had a busy day or something as it seemed a little bit of a burden. However, the meal was very nice, staff eventually, to a degree, warmed up, so will give it another try later on. On a footnote though. I did email them twice in the past, recently, trying to get a surprise birthday meal set up, no response at all, which was disappointing, still have the emails I sent. Maybe they were busy enough and didn’t need my custom so tried another place close by, response was very quick, very informative so have booked there instead. So, in a nutshell, the jury is still out, for the meantime.

Nice if a little expensive for what you're getting. The food is about what you'd expect from a chain pub- not bad by any stretch and it will fill you up. Lovely staff and a good atmosphere means I'd heartily recommend this place <3

Normally very decent food however avoid the smash burger. Mines was cremated almost black all the way through and rock solid. Didn’t come with the advertised lettuce, tomato, onion or ketchup. Additional of bacon wasn’t great as this was grilled back bacon with the fat still raw. Would expect crispy streaky bacon for a burger. Drinks selection, decor and service can’t be faulted.

We were stopping at the New Inn hotel and only went in for breakfast. Service was very slow, it's a good job we weren't in a rush. The food was okay.

Loverly food well worth a visit

We met up with two of our family and having been here before we had no hesitation to meet here again. The food was really good especially the chicken maryland and the friendly service was excellent. Lovely restaurant and the large free car park at the rear of the hotel is a real bonus for patrons.

As always, we had excellent food and service at the corniest. We have been many times and never been disappointed. Family stayed at the hotel and we met for a meal as we know how good the food is. Every meal was fantastic. Would list what we had but no matter what you choose it will be extremely good.

Me and my partner live in Ellon so often come here for a meal. Cannot fault it at all. The food is amazing especially the fajita pasta!! great quality, big portions and delicious! The staff are lovely and very attentive. The atmosphere is great and has a warm feeling to it. every visit i feel welcome and leave with a full belly! You can also order food in the bar too which is great when the football is on! Highly Recommended

The Cornkist was full on an early Friday night, staff tried to accommodate us, but too busy. Staff advised we could go to the bar. Bar supper it is then. Menu looked very good. Fajitas chicken and Korean beef combo and a portion of pulled pork loaded fries was awesome. Best fajitas I have had in a while. Great portion size. The Katsu chicken burger with extra side of sweet potato fries Everything was so tasty, left stuffed.😁 Staff friendly and helpful. Lots of fun listening in on the bar chat. Great service and food, highly recommend.

We had a really lovely lunch here. The food and the service was excellent. The restaurant was lovely and has a great location - there is also a free car park for customers at the rear of the hotel. Would definitely return .

Lovely family meal..Wide range of meals.enjoyed by all.

Had turkey main and sticky toffee pudding. Turkey meal was good apart from parsnips a bit hard. Sticky toffee sponge was like highland toffee, hard and very chewy. Couldn't even use a knife and fork so returned it and got another much the same. Male waiter/barman in a suit had an attitude problem when i told him it wasn't good. Said they had the best sticky toffee in the area. Not that impressed to be honest.

Came here with a large party for a birthday celebration staff were courteous and very polite and very quick at taking all the large orders and mixed food and bring it out in a quick fashion food was delicious never tried this combination before would come again

The place was packed when we got there for lunch, but it didn't at all affect the service or quality of the food. Our table of 5 all enjoyed their meals - great portion sizes too!

Always visit when up staying with my parents. It's a highlight of my stay. Lovely staff that are always up for a news. Always busy and would definitely recommend booking. Food fantastic and all the family go away vowing they don't need to eat for a week. Favourite eatery in Ellon.

My battered fish was lovely and had that creamy quality you get when it has been cooked perfectly. My wife enjoyed a lasagne.

This place was heaving on a Wednesday evening, probably because there are so very few places in Scotland to eat out? Menu reads well with some interesting options. Service was good. The ubiquitous Haggis Bonbons were OK but weirdly sat on an Asian-Flavoured slaw of some sort, Steak Stroganoff with rice was creamy & pleasant, but Crispy Chicken stir-fry was so overloaded with (bottled?) sweet & sour sauce that it was almost inedible. Perhaps stick to standard dishes if you eat here?

Had another fantastic meal. A huge thank you to the staff who always go above and beyond.

Fillet steak cooked to perfection, all the staff were very efficient and helpful had a most enjoyable evening. Car parking available with numbered exit from staff very well organised

Lovely dinner. Hubby has the steak tagliatelle, which he couldn't finish (generous portion) and I had the steak pie which was lovely. I actually couldn't finish it either and took some of the beef home (my cat wolfed it down so it must've been good as he is very fussy!!!) Def will be back and get the steak pie again!

Service excellent as usual, food was very nice, bit noisy as there was a 21st birthday celebration lunch on the Thursday we were there.

I love that they have a full vegan menu, makes such a difference when eating out locally. Food is good, overall the place is really affordable and staff are all really friendly. Only downside is that it's a popular place and can get a bit noisy when having a conversation over dinner, a minor inconvenience really!

Have eaten here several times now. Food is excellent with a wide choice on the menu. Homely, warm feel inside. Excellent service and the staff are 5*. Free car parking at the rear of the restaurant. There are very few decent quality eating places since The View closed in Newburgh. This is one of the best.

I always love the service here. I felt very special as the waiter was courteous and made such an effort to ensure we knew he would serve us shortly and, most importantly, he did.

Another great old eating place from my past. Very enjoyable lunch, excellent steak and ale pie. Wonderful service and attention from the staff, one even said she recognised me even though I'd left the NE 40 years ago. Well worth a visit for anyone looking for an eatery on the road. Highly recommended.

Nice wee restaurant in Ellon, lovely lunch in the Cornkist, Honey Chilli Stirfry was a treat and Sticky Toffee Pudding, rich, moist, gooey and very moreish, staff attentive and friendly, would recommend, 5*****

Simply excellent meal , huge variety on the menu , great service from the young staff and really tasty food which was very reasonably priced , We went on the mothers day weekend and the restaurant was packed which is always good to see , I had the steak fajitas and they were sensational .We live in the area and now wonder why its taken so long to come to the Cornkist but now it will be a regular visit

Another great meal at The Cornkist! Great to see the place busy and doing well. We had an early (6 pm) Saturday evening meal here as later times were fully booked. Great service and friendly helpful staff. Fish & Chips all round, but I had the butter baked instead of the breaded or battered options. Very nice, the haddock was cooked perfectly. I'd recommend the Cornkist to everyone, but book ahead - they really are busy, but can cope. Great spot. Remember to check out the fish shop over the road if you can!

It can be hit and miss, but this time it was a hit.

Meet up with family here a few times a year, and it never disappoints. Food is always good, from a varied menu, as well as the specials menu. Staff are always friendly, no matter how rushed they are. The desserts are bloody good, too.

This was the most horrible meal ever. the first course of sticky chicken prices was tough & cold Garlic mushrooms were actually quite nice. main course of braised steak was tough & mainly inedible.The creamed potato was slapped underneath everything else & resembled something like a dogs dinner. service was not the best - complained about the food & was promised to raise comments with the chef / management.No action taken wrt compensation or apology. no concern shown & presented with Bill as though everything was normal. overheard lots of negative comments fom other diners in the restaurant.

Plenty choice, good, prompt service. One person serving and he coped very well. Steak pie recommended!

We managed to get in although they were fully booked, they were so helpful. The food was really lovely, the staff were helpful, efficient, professional and the service was exceptional, after a 10 hour drive this was a very welcome meal.

Had dinner here last week. We both had pate as it’s really nice and has a strong flavour. I had the special on the menu which was the chicken Parma. It was nice but the honey roast ham which there were loads of seemed to be the most prominent flavour. My husband had the liver grill which he really enjoyed and needless to say had good portions. Staff are always fast friendly and attentive.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat. I had the burger, which was cooked well and was tasty. My wife had the fish, which was rather large and also tasty. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Excellent lunch and very detailed menu. Passing through and stopped to try. I had the baked potato and stroganoff which was nice. Don’t park in public car park and pay as there is a private one at the side.

Very good meal great staff pitty about the carpet on the stairs it may not give you a headache but if you look at it two long you would get. Sorry but it is terrible does nothing for the hotel .

Excellent prawn cocktail starter then scampi and chips with peas and salad all really lovely. Cheesecake was just delicious. Lots of choices on the menu to suit different tastes. Excellent service and didn't wait long for food to arrive. Waitress very polite and kind to my 92 yr old Dad. Definitely would recommend for lunch, dinner, snacks etc.

A lunch visit, I liked the extensive menu and along with this there was a choice of specials of the day also. I chose the stripped peppered steak with tagliatelle in a cream sauce, it was excellent and piping hot. I would certainly recommend this restaurant and I shall visit again when I'm in the area. Visited again today 20/3/22 and had lunch honey&chilli glazed crispy chicken with noodles and again it was excellent.

Attended a meal here for my father's 60th celebration. The place was very busy when we first arrived. It took us a short time to get out drinks order in plus it was very warm however the staff were lovely the meals came at a very reasonable time as we had pre booked and after the initial rush we couldn't have had a nicer time. Meal was absolutely delicious and the staff were great. We had a newborn with us also, it was a very comfortable experience for him also. Will definitely return for future occasions.

A busy Thursday evening but good cheerful service. Both had the Roast Beef special of the day, great value. Our friend had the Risotto, too much to finish, again great value.

Never been here before but family booked it for a birthday dinner. Staff were lovely, plenty to choose from on the menu, and food was delicious. Will definitely eat here again.

We had heard a lot of good things about this restaurant so we booked for dinner but was so disappointed with our food when it arrived. I had the fish and chips which was served with kids skinny chips, if I wanted them I would have went to McDonald's and they were not properly cooked and only warm, my partner had the Goulash and rice, he said the Goulash was delicious but could have been hotter, the rice was so dry he had to covet it with the sauce from his Goulash to moisten it and this to was only warm. They prices are on a par with most restaurants in our area. 5/10.

Any special occasion me and my girl pals meet here food is always awesomely good with a resonable wait time, staff are so friendly and helpful even though they are always very busy. The booths with the stained glass panels let you feel like you and your party are isolated and cosy

We needed somewhere for dinner after a long day out exploring Scotland as tourists and luck put us in the vicinity of Ellon, where our family have long touted The New Inn as one of the best places to get Haddock and I surely was not disappointed. We called ahead to make sure the kitchens were open on the 2nd and the staff could not have been nicer both by phone and in person. My wife had the Sunday roast beef special and it was plentiful and cooked perfectly. We will certainly make it a regular stop when we're able to visit the area again in the future!

Been there twice in the last fortnight. Ill after both occasions. Pointed out that I am pork intolerant. Called them after last occasion just to advise them, as the reaction could have been drastic for someone else. The person on the phone stated that they only had a pulled pork dish on their menu and that this was prepared separately from other dishes. I advised them that a good number of their options (chicken Maryland/burgers etc.) all contained bacon. Seemed confused that bacon was pork. Just met with defensive negativity and the suggestion that I might be intolerant to chicken!!! Wife's chicken was undercooked. Sister-in-law asked not to have anything with flour or coleslaw. Got pasta and some white dressing. Won't be back- EVER.

Easy to book, felt safe with plenty sanitising stations. The menu is always extensive at the Cornkist with plenty choices to suit your mood. Waitress staff are first class, always friendly. Our go-to restaurant in Ellon.

Great to see The New Inn buzzing again! Lovely meal this evening celebrating all the family birthdays, anniversaries, etc missed during lockdown. Fantastic food as always. Staff were doing a grand job as the place was packed. We'll be back soon!

Not comfortable felt like we were all packed in like sardines literally the table I was on was a hand distance away from another one on each side. Clearly trying to cram as many in as possible. They have also put a table in front of a fire exit door pretty sure that's not safe. Really don't think this is right for currant crisis. Won't be back.

Had a great afternoon. Food as always was amazing. I had chicken salad, that is always better than mine! Massive selection of larger varied meals and also several burgers, baked potatoes and paninis with a broad variety of fillings. Portions are large and we have never had a bad meal here for decades. Family run to consistent high standards and staff are always so efficient and friendly in both the restaurant and bar. Highly recommend as always

Beautiful Cullen Skink soup! That’s all we needed for lunch. Bread roll was affa tasty, too. A pot of tea is bug enough for two to share.
