Dear oh dear oh dear ..... took friends having recommended it. What a mistake. A once great 'pub with food' has lost it's way chasing a Michelin star .... for whose benefit? Certainly not the punter's. Having visited regularly since it first opened and always enjoyed the food and atmosphere it's now inflexible, a poncy menu choice, deadly dull and too expensive. Requested they drop the mash on the pie dish, not a fan, and replace with chips .... 'I don't think we can do that'. Why not, does it upset the Chef's sensibilities? They didn't. Had to order chips as well. Friend asked for a soft-boiled egg, for some protein, to add to his Salad .... 'I don't think we have any eggs, if it's not on the menu we won't have any in stock'. They didn't have an egg they could soft-boil. A Michelin star chasing restaurant that didn't have an egg on the premises. Made it seem like the dishes were poly-bagged and flown in .... couldn't be adapted. 'Open-kitchen' doesn't work .... we had 90 minutes watching 4 staff looking miserable. Totally inappropriate music for a restaurant .... we weren't in River Isalnd. Dessert .... 'Honey cake, poached plums, crème fraiche sorbet' .... looked like it was out of a box from Waitrose's dessert section. 'Cake' was hard, assumed it would ooze honey .... couldn't finish it, indigestible. Cheapest wine .... £30 Most expensive .... £190 Very, very disappointing. Walk in the area regularly and it's always been a post-walk treat .... taken friends and family many times, Christmas and New Years Day visits too. Never again.

After many times visiting the Sidmouth Arms and having a pretty positive option of the place, I have to say what a shame its now been turned into a cattle market for food. The recent overhaul of the interior is horrendous as the old charm that was there has now gone, with plain rooms of many tables and a new bar that looks like the reception of a huge corporate Hotel/Airport. The whole place feels like a large family and children café refer than an old village pub. Sunday menu is only limited to roast dinners or fish and chips that are pretty poor. Not a place to go for a nice atmospheric print anymore. Positives are the food is still reasonably cheap and mostly tasty and its always open for business and food and the garden is very present place in the summer.

Lunchtime for two We treated ourselves to the sirloin sharer for two , which was served medium rare, sliced and served with carrots, potato wedges and gravy As it takes 45 minutes to prepare, we shared Focaccia bread and olives Plus a few soft drinks, this was in total fifty quid each. Bear in mind the usual lunchtime menu is twenty five and the sharer has a fifteen quid extra. I left full and wanting to try more Located in the heart of Didsbury Village in a charming converted building that retains a lot of its original features, set across a few rooms, with a kitchen in the back. I like the calm atmosphere and the very attentive wait staff. The adjacent car park is very conveniently located

Booked a table for 7 45. On arrival told it would be 45 mins to an hour before our food would be served. I'm afraid that is unacceptable,to make matters worse a table of 4 who ordered 30 mins after us was served before us. The staff were very apologetic but I wouldn't wait that long in a Michelin starred restaurant let alone a Belper pub! The food when it eventually arrived after 1 hour and 10 mins was delicious and they did knock off some of the drinks on the bill. I would much rather have paid for everything and had a good experience. We will not be going again and will make sure to tell all our friends not to go unless they are prepared to wait at least an hour for their food.

A brilliant pub in so many ways :- Friendly, attentive staff (2 young females) who worked hard to ensure that customers were served quickly and efficiently (and they made time to give my black labrador some treats) Delicious food - we enjoyed steak pie, surf, & turf and Cumberland sausage all of which were reasonably priced. (Thank you chef) Excellent hand-pulled ales. The Hawkshesd red was superb. The selection of wines was also very good. Friendly locals - the atmosphere in the pub was warm and friendly and everyone was enjoying themselves. The Black Bull is out of the top drawer of great, traditional pubs and is conveniently loacated near to Hadrian's Wall. We will certainly be returning in the future. Well done to all concerned.

After some pretty bad fish and chip cafes in Fife I remembered a visit my wife, daughter, granddaughter and I had to this place. The service was good, the restaurant was very clean and the fish suppers were bang on. Not a hint of grease and the fish still moist and perfectly cooked. Even the tea was decent.

I visited on Sunday 27 October 2024 for a meal with a friend and her dogs. The venue is dog friendly. There is a big menu with lots of choice including numerous vegetarian and vegan items, and the prices are very reasonable. Recommended.

The food there was really good, however it is very expensive, £8 for ONE milkshake! However, the milkshake was easily the best drink I've ever had. The experience there was really good, and the restaraunt was well decorated with halloween decorations such as skeletons. It had very kind workers as well! I would recommend for you to go there for tea, because it is a very good place and not very busy either(well when we went there). I would recommend it for people who love food like chips, burgers and milkshakes(american food). Overall, it was a very fun time but it was expensive.

We have just spent 4 nights in Paignton and ate at Henry's each evening. Food and drink delicious, staff and locals friendly and welcoming. Also not far from our accommodation. Centrally located close to the railway station the seafront, we strongly recommend tnis place.
