So we called in for a spot of lunch and was immediately impressed with the cosy ambience. The food was very tasty and fresh. The overall experience was delightful and we look forward to a return visit. Big thank you to Neil and Gilly 👌😁

Simple Pleasures local brew on tap at the Shuckburgh Arms in the village of Southwick. Friendly service, jazzy music, booze, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and a selection of cakes. Host of the conker championship this little pub-come-cafe is worth a visit if strolling nearby or visiting the nearby Southwick Hall. The zesty Simple Pleasures ale by the fire was a welcome treat for my furry taste buds. I cannot give personal experience of the coffee as I didn't have any but it was complimented by a customer that did. The coffee beans roasted in Market Harborough by an Italian family.

A lovely small village pub with bags of history. The friendly landlady served us soft drinks on one of the hottest days of the year. Her small dog paid us a friendly interest. Fantastic to see this old establishment open in this small hamlet. Long may it thrive.

The Shuckburgh Arms in Southwick (not to be confused with the other of the same name in a nearby village) was recommended to us by a fellow motorhome owner as a friendly place to stop, eat and drink. He has good taste. The Brewsters beer was a great guest ale and the whitebait was the best we've had, according to my better half. Look forward to returning for a quiz night and/or the world conker championships.

We were over 100 people in 50 cars on a scenic tour of the East Midlands. This was a very welcome coffee/toilet stop. The pub has a nice ambiance and a local feel. A proper country pub. Everything was ready and well laid out. Standing or seated, tables inside and out. Just what we wanted and a nice lady on hand to check everything was OK. We parked at the side of the picturesque cricket pitch and imagined that it would be lovely on a match day. Sitting enjoying a pint whilst watching the game. Thanks for making our short stay enjoyable.

The enthusiastic and up-to-date website offers a welcoming atmosphere and excellent food. Colourful A-boards and posters outside the Pub invite people in. Meals are served today from 12 noon until 3pm. It’s just 12.15pm. We enter a quiet building – quiet except for a few sounds in the kitchen. Walking into the main room, past the warm, welcoming fireplace, we see visitors at two tables at the far end, and a lady staff person busy behind the bar. She gives no eye contact, or words of welcome, even while she walks past us, as we stand looking around, to take coffee to one of the occupied tables. Two occupied tables and three empty. But there’s “Reserved” signs on two of them, so we sit at the only available table. Lady brings two menus, and hands them, with – again - no eye contact, or conversation. No advice or encouragement. One visitor at an occupied table spends her time watching us, and quietly tells her friends all about us. We quietly discuss the food options on the menus. Having made our decisions, we prepare to go across to the lady at the bar. As we stand up, a male staff person appears from the kitchen and stands by his colleague behind the bar. He speaks !!! “I need to place a 'Reserved' sign on that table, for a group of visitors.” Silence – even the visitor in the corner pauses and watches. One of us says, “So, we’ll need to eat elsewhere then.” “Yes,” says the staff man. In the continuing silence, we gather our coats and walk past the welcoming fireplace, and out into the car park. In the Pub, there’s two occupied tables, “Reserved” signs on the other tables, staff people by the bar, and a third person, who has brought in a bucket of wood for the fire. At no time did the staff offer any sign of a welcome, or suggest other places to sit. No advice or suggestions. Just a silent encouragement to leave. I’ve never felt so unwanted or so unwelcome.

From the front this pub looks very pleasant with a clean stone facade and pretty thatched roof. They have a huge beer garden with views over the local cricket pitch. It was a shame the garden was littered with Labrador droppings. The wooden shack/extension at the back is an eyesore and badly effects the aesthetics. This is a community pub owned by the local villagers and I got the impression they are learning as they go along. Some of the interior leaves you thinking it is literally an extension of their front rooms. Having said that it does have a unique and unfussy charm. The fire was roaring, the barmaid convivial, and the overall ambience warm and welcoming even to strangers. This is a real ale pub with real, traditional, simple 'in a basket' pub grub to match. Possibly best to visit at the right time in summer when they host the World Conker Championship.

Anniversary lunch and where to go after so many disappointments with bought in starters, nuked precooked mains, bought in desserts. I want fresh quality food cooked correctly with love and passion for food. I'VE FOUND IT, IT'S HERE AT THE SHUCK. Tom and Tracy make a great team, very friendly and nothing too much trouble. The food came quickly and was at the top of my standards, faultless and I'm critical where needed. And if needed there is a superb sofa just next to the bar area for a few ZZZZ,s.These two deserve praise and support which they will get from us two very happy Anniversarians. Outside is perfect for families with plenty of grass run room for kids and play features. I can't wait to bring family and grandchildren. Do yourself right and visit, you will be delighted. Try the fish and chips for a £5er on Thursdays. Steve has spoken.😊

Visited this delightful typically quaint English pub/restaurant with family to try the amazing Thursday night Fish and Chip Special. The main area of the bar with open fire is true postcard picturesque. The bar and tables were all full with jovial and happy customers. The staff were great. We were showed to our table at the rear of the bar. Our drinks were ordered and brought to us. My Guinness was first rate! The four of us all ordered the fish and chips with peas. We were unanimous in our praise of the meal. For £5.50 the value was truly exceptional. The fish tasted fresh and cooked perfectly, the batter was a great accomplishment. The chips were also lovely. A huge congratulations go to the chef, staff and the group of locals who have saved this very special venue.

The Shuk is now being run as a community pub and it has a new chef apparently. We went on a Thursday which is now a fish and chip night for a fiver, amazing value, great chips, fantastic beer... really well kept beer, every pint I had was top Camra quality. Lovely landlady, very friendly and made us feel at home instantly. There is a covered eating area outside, just as well, as the space inside is quite tiny, a very cute thatched village pub. The garden is massive though, with a small playhouse, swings and a slide combo thing.I hope they keep the quality up!

I live near the village of Southwick and was interested to hear that the lovely pub there, the Shuckburgh Arms, had undergone a somewhat overdue facelift and change of manager/staff. I visited one sunny Sunday in July 2014 and was delighted to find a good selection of beers (priced at under £3 which is simply amazing these days) and a new landlord serving them. The whole place has been cleaned up, spruced up, brightened up, repainted and upgraded since my last visit a couple of years before. There is extensive seating outside in the large and sunny garden, and as I enjoyed my beer watching the cricket on the adjacent pitch, I decided that I must and will visit more often! Now down to some practical details: there is seating both inside and out, with a large car park so parking won't be an issue. The pub is family-friendly with a welcoming landlord and there is some play equipment in the garden (several swings I recall, and a slide) to keep young ones busy. Outside seating is in the garden or a covered patio at the rear. Food is available and the menu looks well priced with a reasonable selection of pub food, but note that I did not eat there. I'll write another review of the food if I do.

A delightful, very old pub set in the beautiful village of Southwick. I was with a group of 18 walkers and we ate here yesterday. I was very impressed. The service was great from a very nice fella (the owner I think) who seemed to be doing all the serving completely on his own. The menu was extremely varied and good value. The presentation was also superb. Home made fishcakes, Fish & chips, A superb salad nicoise with a whole tuna steak perfectly cooked. PLUS a whole lot more on the extensive menu.. I had the salad nicoise and my only criticism would be that there was far too much dressing on it and would suggest the dressing should be served in a small side jug. One other person who had the same agreed with me. A superb touch were the real linen napkins in their napkin rings. We all ate outside under an awning -it was such a hot day and it was a thoroughly enjoyable lunch. The service was very good and unobtrusive. The pub does a draught cider and several different beers. There's a large garden area and what looks to be a stage in the garden. Generally I think they only open Fri. Sat & Sunday lunchtimes . Plus of course evenings. The salad dressing issue only have stopped me giving it a 5!
