We stopped on the off chance of finding a pub with food, late lunchtime and were in luck! Although there was a full menu, also on offer were a BLT ciabatta or brie and cranberry. And very tasty the brie and cranberry was: well filled, fresh bread, neat salad (and a sneaky portion of chips!). Refreshing glass of Aspalls cider and a choice of non-alcoholic beers rounded off a very pleasant lunch.

I look forward to a better-organised welcome for my next visit - probably just down to teething with new owners, but service was somewhat manic with long delays and when food/drinks were ready, not a lot of idea where to find the customers who had placed that order.

Had a delicious lunch here with the family. We had the piri piri prawns, duck spring rolls and beetroot arancini to start which were very tasty and the portions were generous. Two of us had the chicken kievs which were beautifully cooked and the other dish we ordered was the pea and hake risotto which was on the specials board and also v tasty and perfectly seasoned. We were too full for desert but will try next time we come. The pub is very welcoming, has good service and good home cooked food.

We paid our first visit to the Red Lion today - and it certainly won't be our last. Having had a very hectic week, we were looking for a nice treat, and the Red Lion came up trumps. A really nice pub/restaurant with a very friendly and welcoming owner behind the bar, the food was simply outstanding. The Spanish pil pil prawns in garlic and chili, garlic and wine sauce for starter was delicious - best prawns I have had for quite some time. My wife had the dressed crab for mains and I had the homemade chicken kiev - both perfectly cooked and delicious with very well prepared, obviously fresh, salad with the crab and vegetables with the chicken. Only recently re-opened, I wish this pub every success - I look forward to a return visit soon!

As I manage Wisteria Holiday Cottage a mile down the road, we do like to try out places before recommending them to guests. This was a great experience. We sampled the 3 course fixed price lunch which looked stunning and tasted amazing. Will definitely return.

My girlfriend and I drive past a lot, so decided to try it for dinner. What a great decision, top chef and mine host Liaan was imaginative and accommodating with my partners fussy food choices and tailored 2 courses especially for her. I would fully recommend dining at the new Red Lion, rom the cosy, quirky feel, to the understated friendly atmosphere.

Thought the starters were expensive, salmon trio thing at £9, tasty but tiny, few bits of bread £3......etc. Mains, various roasts, were nice and prices fine. Room was chilly "Service" was basic as in took the orders and delivered the food, nothing else, an order of another bottle of wine forgotten. We paid the 10% nontheless.

We recently ate at The Red Lion which is now under new management. Thursday is steak night, we had a rib eye steak each with a choice of sauce (I had the mushroom sauce and it was delicious) fries, tomatoes and a bottle of red for £50. Fantastic value and an excellent meal, we'll be back.

We chose this pub because it was the perfect location on our Shakespeare's Way walk. We were so lucky! Wonderful food and attentive service. I had the pork belly, which I loved - beautifully tender, great crackling and a proper black pudding bonbon (big enough to taste the black pudding and not too dry). My friends who had the lamb and the chicken were equally delighted. I had been slightly worried about my vegetarian friends, as their only main course option was a vegan burger, but they didn't complain. We had to wait a while for the food but probably our fault for turning up early, on the dot of 12 when the pub opened for lunch, but otherwise couldn't fault the service. The staff were friendly and a new carafe of water appeared as soon as we'd finished the first one, we didn't have to ask. If I lived locally I'd come here as often as I could! Many thanks to you all.

We know the location and this was our first visit under the new management and what a delight. Chef Leon is a master. Ham hock with a poached egg and mustard dressing starter was exquisite, followed by delicious Lamb, which was beautifully decorated, and sumptuous streak and ale pie with perfectly cooked veg and truffle mash. The restaurant was quiet at first and soon busied. If you've not been here before, I urge you to try. If you know it under different management, again, Leon in the kitchen and Mary running the front of house make your extremely welcome and very much at to ease. A delightful Friday night.

I looked forward to trying the new "modern British with South African influence" menu at the Red Lion, and to meeting the new management, after they took over three months ago. I wasn't disappointed on either count! My party of six started with a meat mezze platter and a vegetarian mezze platter and some crusty sourdough bread to share: very nice quality and super sourdough. For mains, two chose the lamb (note that it takes 20-25 mins so not if you're in a rush!) two had the pork belly, one the rib-eye steak, and I had the fish of the day - a whole sea bass. Each dish had its own great combination of veg and sauces to go with the main element. Plenty of veg included, but no starch, so several ordered chips (really crisp outside and fluffy inside). Everything was cooked to a very high standard. No need to comment separately on the food - everyone enjoyed it and all the plates were cleaned - but I will say that my sea bass was cooked perfectly, and better than I've had in a long time. No room for dessert, so straight to coffee. Relaxed atmosphere, nice staff, and an amusing host. We lingered a while - and will be back.

Visited here for the first time in several years. The food was excellent and the service friendly. We ate trio of salmon, pork belly, sea bass and a yummy apricot version of sticky toffee pudding. Very good value for money.

The restaurant was surprisingly quiet for one with such good food and excellent service but this will no doubt change as the clientele builds for new chef/owners. The courses were well presented and recommended wines accompanied them well.

Back at last shame it was Shaun and Gemma’s night off. Very quiet Wednesday but we were late arrivals. Made welcome, choice of seating, nice to see pichets of wine on the drinks menu. Had tariiflette which was spot on and a good price as well. Made us feel guilty we don’t go here more often! Oh and they accept cash!

A lovely dog friendly pub with friendly staff and great food! A little off the beaten track but well worth the journey. The open fire and historic atmosphere definitely made us feel cozy in bad weather

Really nice warm individual atmosphere. Food was great and just what we needed before a long day the following. We overnight-ed in room 3 which had everything needed. I Managed to run an international meeting at 0600 so wifi was strong. Breakfast next day was really good and ready when we asked for it. Highly recommend The Fat Fox if you want to dodge the corporate bs and feel like a name not a number.

We decided on Sunday morning to try the Red Lion for lunch, and booked a table for 1330. We arrived and were met by efficient staff who were expecting us and offered us a choice of table. Drinks were ordered from a knowledgeable waiter and arrived quickly, mine being a very well-kept pint from tge local Amwell Springs brewery. We both chose beef from an extremely well thought-out menu which again arrived after only a short wait. The meat was beautifully cooked and presented on a large plate with very well cooked greens, carrots and a freshly-made Yorkshire puddings. Sides of cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes were excellent, probably the best roasties I've had, and the horseradish was similarly delicious. We both cleared our plates and the side dishes. Utterly gorgeous, go and see for yourself.

Great spot for a little family lunch. Sandwiches & cakes are delicious, nice surroundings & friendly staff. There’s also a box of books for kids to amuse themselves with. Not inexpensive but lovely for a treat.
