The best restaurants serving British food in Guildhall York Yorkshire and The Humber

The Blue Boar is a historic old pub. There is a good selection of beers, lager and cider, including cask conditioned hand-pulled real ales. The cask ales we tried were very good. There are no bar games. It is famous for displaying dick turpins' body after his execution at Tyburn. There is a coffin and notice in the cellar, which is a nice cosy room with plenty of seating. The staff are welcoming and the pub is dog friendly.

We came for the 7 course tasting menu during a midweek evening. The restaurant was very spacious and sympathetically renovated, with some of the original characteristics still intact. The drinks menu was varied and there was a choice of non alcoholic drinks too! The tasting menu was fabulous. We enjoyed every dish and were generously plated. The celeriac veloute and coley fillet needed seasoning, but cooked perfectly! We had seats by the window, so enjoyed the Light Show at the Minster! The service was at a good speed and attentive. The tasting menu was good value and will return again!

Used to live in York and never knew this place existed. Will return

A lovely sized Waterstones store, so clean and well organised. A really great collection of fantasy books, and huge children’s section.

Recently visited for their annual Christmas lunch .Absolutely gorgeous food , it’s was hot and plentiful as well as being beautifully presented excellent value for money considering last Christmas went to Tykes and spent £200 and it wasn’t a patch on Rhodes cafe. The staff were all soo friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks guys see you soon

Absolutamente terrible experiencia. Nuestra reserva para fue 12 : 45 pm para un almuerzo sin fondo y toqué la sucursal a las 12: 35 pm para explicar que estábamos llegando tarde debido al tráfico, la persona con la que hablé por teléfono dijo que esto estaba absolutamente bien y explicó cómo se tomaría fuera de nuestro tiempo que entendíamos. En ningún momento nos dijeron que algo estaba mal. Cuando llegamos, nos llevaron a nuestros asientos y como se imaginarán estábamos deseando nuestro día. Sin embargo, entonces nos dijeron que había algunas malas noticias y Bottomless Brunch no se nos pudo servir debido a que había un problema con el gas. Comprendimos completamente que esto estaba fuera de sus manos y era solo una situación desafortunada. Desafortunadamente, fueron los miembros del personal quienes hicieron de esto una experiencia horrible. Había 2 miembros del personal detrás de la barra que estaban viendo nuestra reacción al ser dicho que nuestro Bottomless Brunch fue cancelado (obviamente nos decepcionaron) que se estaban riendo. Esto fue empeorado por un tercer miembro del personal que nos trajo una botella de Prosecco, explicamos que no queríamos esta botella, ya que ninguno de nosotros estaba demasiado preocupado por Prosecco y se desperdiciaría. Este miembro del personal regresó a la zona del bar donde los tres se rieron. Entonces se estaba sacando comida, así que le preguntamos a un miembro del personal cómo estaba sucediendo esto. Explicó que sus pedidos se habían hecho antes de que el gas se disparara, preguntamos cuándo se disparó el gas a lo que ella respondió antes de las 12 : 30 . Como pueden imaginar, esto fue muy confuso para nosotros cuando llamé a las 12: 35 y nada más fue mencionado. Un miembro del equipo del bar sacó su cepillo del bolsillo para cepillar su cabello detrás de la barra después de tocarlo con las manos varias veces. Hadnt been here for a while but had 2 bar meals today . Excellent food, great value for a city centre bar and would definitely return.

Nos encontramos con Dean Court después de un largo viaje a York y buscando un buen lugar para comer. Habíamos reservado alojamiento en otro lugar y estábamos tan decepcionados y descontentos con él y mientras cenamos en la corte decanos nos pusimos a charlar con Gary nuestro camarero - un gran trabajador y tan servicial. Se ofreció a conseguir que alguien hablara con nosotros sobre la reserva de alojamiento con ellos, ya que queríamos dejar el alojamiento en el que nos alojábamos. Hablamos con Beatta y oh Dios mío ella era tan servicial y amable con nuestra situación. Nada fue un problema. No pudimos agradecerle lo suficiente por hacer nuestra estancia mucho más cómoda que el otro lugar. Beatta es absolutamente la columna vertebral de la corte decana y muestra que es apasionada por su trabajo. Hemos sugerido la corte del decano a nuestro agente de viajes para futuros clientes. Las habitaciones estaban muy limpias y cómodas y la comida era fabulosa en una ubicación tan maravillosa de York, cerca de todas las atracciones turísticas y cafés / restaurantes. Cenamos y desayunamos allí y fue sensacional. También tenemos que dar las gracias a Frank que es un gato de todos los oficios también. Muy amable y acogedor. Recomendamos encarecidamente Dean's Court y su personal amable y acogedor. Nos alojaríamos allí de nuevo si volvemos al Reino Unido. Gracias de nuevo por hacer nuestra estancia en York mucho mejor

We found this bar on our walk into the centre of York. Great selection of Gins and the bar staff were really friendly and offered us a great service. We called in a couple of times during our stay in York and received the same great service from all the staff we spoke with.

I was very puzzled by the food I was served this past weekend. When told that the prawns starter was not available, I opted for the hoisin mushroom skewer. This was explained as 'just mushrooms on a stick' by the waitress. We explained we were in a bit of a rush. So we were going to have just 1 course. It took 45 minutes to arrive. And it was not mushrooms. It took me a while to work out what it was, but I decided it was shredded duck, shaped in lumps, put on a skewer and drizzled with hoisin sauce. Once I got the idea of what I was eating, it was actually quite nice. Wouldn't have been though for a vegetarian thinking they'd ordered mushrooms 😉 and the skin on chips and the skewers were like warm, rather than hot. Disappointing. I'd post a photo, but can't see an option to do this.

The Hole in the Wall is a nice cosy traditional pub with a real fire and a contemporary feel. There is a good selection of draught beers, including four hand-pulled cask conditioned real ales. The ones i tried were in excellent condition. I haven't tried the food, but the menu looked very tempting.

Lunchtime visit for a quick drink. Most tables were reserved for a large group. This made it difficult to get a seat.

We enjoyed a delicious pub lunch in this lovely historic building. Food plus a drink for £12 each was excellent value. Crispy bacon in the BLT sandwich, really nice sausage and mash. Great skin on chips too! Pint of ale, glass of wine. Prompt and friendly service too.
