Pequeño pub encantador, quemador de leña en la barra delantera. Buena selección de cervezas servidas por un gran barman. Muy buen lugar para una pinta o 2. Bonito pequeño jardín para cuando el tiempo se anima. Vaya... es genial

Hot food isn't served here but you can get a snack. It's not about the food though, this little pub has so much charm. It's friendly staff and cosy atmosphere is amazing. There's always a lot of choice of ales, something for everyone. It's a nice stop along the city walls. Cosy in the cold months and a beautiful suntrap in the summer months. I've never been there when there's live music but I've been told it's great

My type of pub serving Tim Taylor's Landlord, amongst others. I would like to be there for the music night.

The Phoenix lnn is a traditional multi roomed with a wide range of beers, larger and cider, including five hand pulled cask conditioned real ales. The cask ales we sampled were in excellent condition. There is a real fire in the bar, a bar billiards table in the back room, a dartboard in a separate room and a pub garden. There is live jazz music every monday and wednesday. The pub is in the camra good beer guide.

Nice staff who were friendly and helpful with my requests, we got chatting and they offered us information on the history of the pub! The Landlord has apparently seen a ghost there too. Nice little spot with tonnes of character, well worth a visit

Great selection of beers, mine was superb

Went there for a jazz night. Some brilliant music from Chris Moore (piano) and Georg Rueschemeyer (bass) along with an excellent drummer whose name I didn't get. Pleasant environment to watch good music.

Easily our favourite pub in York! Feel very lucky this is our local. Always good beers, friendly staff, nice places to sit inside and out. Usually have gluten free beer options too which is a bonus! And live music. Highly recommend.

Just great beer, no food. There is character in this pub I recommend it.

A perfect little pub tucked into a hidden location right by the city walls. But also the perfect pub for a drink if at the nearby Barbican centre. Not really a food pub, just the basics, but a cracking pint, huge character and live music at the weekends and always packed with locals. If I was asked to recommend a proper British pub in York to tourists it would be this one. Took our American family here and they. absolutely loved it

How a pub should be, we popped in on a warm and sunny afternoon and discovered a welcoming and cosy bar room, friendly staff and a pleasing range of good ales and beers.

We visited this wonderful pub for live music and pints twice during our York stay. One night was first-class jazz complete with piano and horns, and the other was an amazing piano player playing requests non-stop. Very cozy front room with fireplace, back room for music and an outdoor patio (too cold for that in April), Typical selection of local and other beers. The Phoenix is popular with locals and now with us! They offer music several nights/week.

Awesome pub. Outskirts of the city so prices are cheapest you’ll find. Great beer garden for a sunny day!

A nice old school boozer where you can just sit down with a quiet pint. Perfect.

What a pub. The choice of ales are extensive and all that I tried were delicious and fresh. The staff were also very friendly. I left my brolly there and they let me pick it up before opening the next day - thanks for that. Finally, the best thing about our evening was the blues band playing. Take a look, they're mega.

A little gem of a pub that's a bit hidden but in such a great location just inside the old walls mixing well into the neighborhood. Quiet when I visited with a few couples and some friends having a pint after work. A lovely little fireplace, friendly barkeeper, and some good cask ales. The small back patio looks great for the warmer months. This place clearly has some history and stories and next time I'm in York I'll certainly stop by again.

A great little place, don't be fooled and pass by, this place is a must visit! The bar staff were great, both polite and helpful and the pork pies simple, but great to soak up some of the alcohol! The greatest draw was the live jazz on Wednesday evening and some of the locals bring their instruments and join in the sessions. The music was great and absolutely made our evening.

Proper boozer, bare boards, excellent ales, very popular. The kind that have been dying out.. cherish it. Food is pork pies and pasties.

Outstanding real ale pub - award winning. Fantastic choice of quality beers. Service is great and staff knowledgeable. Plenty of seats in a quirky arrangement. Music on certain nights. Really special pub - worth a visit.

A great pub with a number of different rooms, when I bushed a roaring fire warned up the front bar. Great range of cask ale and a busy, friendly atmosphere. I'll definitely visit again next time I'm in York.

Cannot find fault with York CAMRA pub of the year 2023. A lovely pub in one of the quieter City areas within the walls. Love the layout and decor. A front bar room with a real fire and a much larger rear area with a good rear beer courtyard to boot.I know I have been before with Jorvic, not sure about Paulicarus. Five real ales. A new brewery for me, Yorkshire Dales. Had an excellent pint of Drover's Arms dark mild 3.9%. Also in CAMRA 2024 Good Beer Guide.

The Phoenix Inn is just off the city centre so is probably not on the tourist trails. It is a fabulous, traditional local pub with a super public bar with a real fire, as well as another bar and tiny snug area. The decor and furnishings are traditional and feature lots of dark wood, and the result is a perfectly cosy ambience. The beers were excellent as was the service. Pubs don’t come any better than this.

Becoming a regular. Son loves it here. Atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Beer is good with choices. Prices are fair. They have entertainment occasionally. The fire is a winner. Staff are friendly and happy to make the night.

We passed this a few times on our way back and forth to the car park and decided to pop in one day. Lovely little bar area with a lovely selection of local beers. I was first drawn to the ilkley blonde ale but soon changed, with advice from a local to Taylor’s Landlord, which was lovely. We probably spent too long in here but great place for a drink.

Popped in for a pint before we went for a Chinese across the road. I have lived in York for 34 years and never been in here. What a great place, nice and welcoming and a great pint, I shall definitely be returning. My new favourite pub in York.

The Phoenix Inn is a traditional 1830s Victorian built pub tucked up next to the city walls by Fishergate Bar. With a warm and cosy 19th century interior layout it's the perfect place to while away the hours in its relaxed and peacefully ambience. Helped by the always great range of locally produced cask beers, frequent live music and a wonderful little yard to the rear from which you can watch the sun set behind the York Walls in the warmer months. One of our firm favourites in York.

Stopped in for a pint a few weeks back after walking the wall around the city, and we were delightfully surprised at the simple charm of this place. Unassuming, no pretence, no music or tv, just a charming, beautifully preserved Victorian-era (I think) pub, where strangers could say hello. Oh, and some fantastic real ale, too. I visited 13 different pubs on this most recent trip to England, and this one was my favourite.

Nice little pub! I would just personally prefer a better choice of lager, however the staff are lovely and they had a pianist on the night we were there. We were pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed it.

Visited on a Friday night, with my son and a couple of his friends from Uni. We all had a great time. Excellent beers, great pianist and a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. My Uber driver, on the way back to my hotel, said it was probably one of the best pubs in York. I think he was spot on.

My favourite beer garden in York, such a quaint and relaxing little court yard. Beer selection a touch limited but still of a much higher caliber then your average pub. Regular love musicians, pianists, had bands etc.

We popped into The Phoenix Inn before going to a concert at the Barbican York. This is a landmark pub for those who know York. As usual the pub was busy but we managed to get a seat. There was a varied selection of ales which were was first class my wife had a sauviuon blanc which was nice. Prices were reasonable. The pub is 'traditional' it needs a bit of a freshening up and the toilets while clean need updating. You will get a nice welcome here and reasonable priced drinks.
