Came here to see Dick Turpins coffin,in there cellar and loved it.Love old pubs with history.

Stopped in a for a couple of drinks. Nice pub, a little dated but was there for the beer.

El ambiente era agradable, y las bebidas eran excelentes, preparando el escenario para una noche relajante. Desafortunadamente, la experiencia fue completamente amarga a la hora del cierre por un miembro del personal increíblemente grosero. Mientras sabíamos que se habían llamado a los últimos pedidos, notamos otra mesa con pintas llenas y un par de personas se sentaron en la barra. Esto dio la impresión de que no había prisa inmediata para salir, y sentimos que teníamos una cantidad razonable de tiempo para terminar. Sin embargo, un miembro del personal se acercó a nuestro grupo y nos dijo bruscamente que teníamos que irnos inmediatamente, lo que se sintió abrupto e innecesario. Por si fuera poco, pronto se hizo evidente que la mesa con pintas llenas y los que estaban sentados en la barra eran en realidad personal bebiendo fuera de horario. Esto fue engañoso y nos dejó sintiéndonos injustamente señalados, ya que habíamos asumido que eran otros clientes de pago que aún terminaban sus bebidas. Lo que comenzó como una agradable velada con buenas bebidas y un ambiente agradable terminó con una nota decepcionante debido a este comportamiento desconsiderado. Una comunicación clara y un poco de respeto por pagar a los clientes habría avanzado mucho.

Un par de días en York vinieron a comer con la familia. La música en vivo es agradable pero un poco fuerte para mantener cualquier tipo de conversación / hacer un pedido! Comida bastante decepcionante shizzle frito. Inodoros horribles. Personal amable!

Very happy with the visit. Prices a bit more expensive than I'm used to but its new years eve and in a city. Pizzas look lovely

Live music welcoming crowd good beer. Perfect!

I wish I could have got in to find out how the drinks were. My family birthday party (grandparents and 20something kids) was prevented from entering. Not by the security staff (who were lovely), but by a manager who was really rude, didn’t provide any reason and who the security staff member clearly disagreed with too. If we’d been a rowdy stag party or equivalent I’d have understood but we were quite the opposite. I’ll not be going back. I’ve been there before and it’s not worth the trip to be treated that way. Honestly, don’t bother.

Precioso interior, que admite perros, amable personal del bar, vino precioso y una pinta de cracking. Encantadora chica irlandesa sirviendo detrás de la barra, le dio un capricho a mi perrito. Xx

Just popped in for a drink. Nice looking pub

Really nice, quirky little pub, full of atmosphere. Only popped in for a quick drink after a night at the Opera House watching Rocky Horror. The addition of the "Dick Turpin Coffin" downstairs in the pub was fun.

Didn't have any food, went in for a drink, quite quiet. Decent service

Great little spot to visit, handy for a pre drink if your going the the Royal Oprah House 1 minute walk away.

Smashing pub near the York Dungeon. Lovely service and a good range of drinks, reasonably priced. Went on a Sunday afternoon and thoroughly entertained by the singer Simon. Enjoy. M

Lovely quirky pub, interesting basement.

Visited after a recommendation while on a ghost walk, it's well worth a visit for a drink down in the cellar.

This is a lovely traditional pub, great drinks selection and the 2 young ladies behind the bar on a busy Sunday afternoon were so pleasant and welcoming, definitely one to visit when in York.

Did not eat here just had a couple of drinks. Friendly staff. Comfy seating. Live music. Nice atmosphere.

Good range of beers, great atmosphere

Stopped here for a very needed lunch with a hungry family. All the usual "chain" places had queues out the door. Found this place more by chance. Could not fault the friendly service or the food. Will be one to remember when we visit York again.

El, the waitress/barmaid, is honestly the most friendly and helpful server I have encountered in a long while. El made us all feel very welcome and made our visit here excellent!

Canny bar the layout with good beer and great service, quiet when visiting as mid-afternoon midweek. Would recommend a visit x

Nice little pub, A Little dated inside but fits the York vibe better I think. Staff was lovely, greeted us on entry and went above and beyond when serving us at the bar. The food menu is a little limited on choice but what we picked was really nice and fairly priced. The toilets was also clean which I've seen reviews saying otherwise.

Came in on Saturday and had a lovely time- music & atmosphere was great, as was the service from Rachel :) will defo be coming back!

You have to put things into perspective. There's no Martini Rossi or tomato juice. On the other hand there is a good choice of J2O, white wine, beer etc, served by welcoming staff. It's an experience to be saying goodbye to 2 bouncers on leaving! We enjoyed our time here! Many thanks!

Came to the Blue Boar with my friend for a burger and some live music. Was the best decision we’ve made in York. Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. Charlie behind the bar was super attentive and had great banter. Couldn’t recommend this place any more!

Came in for a drink after a long, long, long day at work you know when you just need a pint of wine. Lovley service Charlie was very accommodating and kept my glass full. Great food !!! As Charlie would say “you can’t be drinking us dry on an empty stomach “ I’d recommend the munch box can’t go wrong . Absolutely Devine

A tad disappointing We were passing and the outside looked like a nice pub Sadly when we got in all the history had been removed and a bland interior aimed at students remained We looked at the menu and thought not Shame could be so much better I appreciate that not all pubs can be equal but this was so disappointing after the outside looked so good

Great atmosphere and good food. It wasn't too busy and the staff was lovely. We planned to go out for drinks somewhere else but decided to stay and no complaints about the drinks either! What a good spot to finish a weekend in York, I'll keep this one bookmarked for another time, for sure!

Cute pub, very unexpected! Great atmosphere, the music was fantastic. Bar staff were helpful and easy to chat with. Service was great. Didn't try the food but it looked good too.

Got a pint of still cider. Didn’t want or ask for ice. When I mentioned it the young lass behind the bar she looked at me like I was daft- real cider MUST have ice. Worst pint ever, think there was maybe a half of something in there….

Visited for a quick drink, "for old times sake". The pub was very quiet and we were served quickly with our drinks. Since our previous visit the place has been refurbished and it looked good. It was nice to spend time reminiscing.

Came here for a poetry night and really enjoyed the vibe. Decent drinks, good toilets, friendly and efficient staff. I'm not sure what else you can ask for an evening service from a pub!

Friendly staff, pub grub menu with good portion size. Furnishings a little tired and worn. Visited mid afternoon so not too busy. However the blue boar is dog friendly.

Called in for a drink and something to eat whilst in York beer was good and the baguette was delicious Only thing stopping it getting 5 stars is the lack of comfortable seats

Life is too short to spend any time in this pub as there are many better venues in the city. Cold room with uncomfortable seating and no ambience. Television on with no one watching. Only one cask ale on offer. Friendly and efficient bar man.

Been a few times now. Great range of beers. Good food and if you’re a live music fan this place is for you. Awesome

Menu was fairly basic but the food was good. Excellent choice of Ale’s. Nice setting, friendly and polite staff and excellent value for money. Worth a look when looking for some pub grub in York.

Friendly, welcoming staff and a decent selection of reasonably-priced drinks by York standards. Dropped in here as part of a large-ish family group, including a couple of littlies and the bar staff were super-helpful. Clean, nice atmosphere and decent tunes. Last went in when it was still The Little John - probably in the early 2000s!

Called in for lunch after being here for drinks a few times on previous trips to York. This time we were here for the Christmas market. The staff are always welcoming and the food was yummy, good prices too. Definitely recommend and will be back next time we visit York.

Nice little pub and had a singer on

Popped in here on early evening Friday. We only had a few drinks, was going to eat but got told food had ended. The place is nice and cosy with a lovely vibe but not the best toilets! Recommend 👍🏻

We only pooped in for a quick beer on the way to our hotel. Atmos seemed nice, a lot of students.

Called in to this pub with family on a visit to York. What a find! Brilliant ambiance. Only had drinks as we had plan’s elsewhere but the food that was coming out looked amazing. The information on Dick Turpin in the cellar was fantastic. Will definitely be back. Highly recommended 👍

Super little pub in the heart of York and the only one we tried that had an ordinary dark rum! Everywhere else only had the spiced sort. Good music playing, food was also lovely and Dick Turpin's coffin in the cellar was a nice twist.

legends, the man with long hair and one of the bouncers let us in to use the toilet as we really needed it, even without buying something. they’re amazing we’re coming back again. legends. york really is super safe.

Stumbled upon this place and really enjoyed the ambience. Open mic time and we were treated to a great singer. Normal costing drinks. Sat outside on a small bench in a little courtyard area. Just really nice.

Lovely little craft style pub. Went in for some food and had a couple chicken burgers and some fries and was not disappointed. Great selection of beer (which we definitely enjoyed) and the staff were lovely and could have a good chat. Will definitely be returning!

Such a fantastic find in the centre of York. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was fresh and delicious. There was live music with a fab atmosphere. We will definitely be back!
