The Blue Boar in York

Came here for a poetry night and really enjoyed the vibe. Decent drinks, good toilets, friendly and efficient staff. I'm not sure what else you can ask for an evening service from a pub!

Friendly staff, pub grub menu with good portion size. Furnishings a little tired and worn. Visited mid afternoon so not too busy. However the blue boar is dog friendly.

Popped in for a beer during an afternoon session 😉

Called in for a drink and something to eat whilst in York beer was good and the baguette was delicious Only thing stopping it getting 5 stars is the lack of comfortable seats

Life is too short to spend any time in this pub as there are many better venues in the city. Cold room with uncomfortable seating and no ambience. Television on with no one watching. Only one cask ale on offer. Friendly and efficient bar man.

Been a few times now. Great range of beers. Good food and if you’re a live music fan this place is for you. Awesome

Menu was fairly basic but the food was good. Excellent choice of Ale’s. Nice setting, friendly and polite staff and excellent value for money. Worth a look when looking for some pub grub in York.

Friendly, welcoming staff and a decent selection of reasonably-priced drinks by York standards. Dropped in here as part of a large-ish family group, including a couple of littlies and the bar staff were super-helpful. Clean, nice atmosphere and decent tunes. Last went in when it was still The Little John - probably in the early 2000s!

Called in for lunch after being here for drinks a few times on previous trips to York. This time we were here for the Christmas market. The staff are always welcoming and the food was yummy, good prices too. Definitely recommend and will be back next time we visit York.

Popped in here on early evening Friday. We only had a few drinks, was going to eat but got told food had ended. The place is nice and cosy with a lovely vibe but not the best toilets! Recommend 👍🏻

Called in to this pub with family on a visit to York. What a find! Brilliant ambiance. Only had drinks as we had plan’s elsewhere but the food that was coming out looked amazing. The information on Dick Turpin in the cellar was fantastic. Will definitely be back. Highly recommended 👍

Super little pub in the heart of York and the only one we tried that had an ordinary dark rum! Everywhere else only had the spiced sort. Good music playing, food was also lovely and Dick Turpin's coffin in the cellar was a nice twist.

legends, the man with long hair and one of the bouncers let us in to use the toilet as we really needed it, even without buying something. they’re amazing we’re coming back again. legends. york really is super safe.

Food was amazing!!! Definitely recommend the toasties! Unique because had some history connected to Dick Turpin in the cellar seating area.

Stumbled upon this place and really enjoyed the ambience. Open mic time and we were treated to a great singer. Normal costing drinks. Sat outside on a small bench in a little courtyard area. Just really nice.

Came in last Friday and had a great night. Had a couple of burgers and melts which were great and a fair few pints afterwards. Staff were very friendly and could have a good chat. Will definitely be going again!

A great wee place, tucked away from the main thoroughfare. Very friendly staff. They didn’t have an extensive menu choice, but that suited us because they had what we wanted, it was served quickly and really tasty.

Perfectly situated venue and at the perfect size. Great place for a few drinks or even a lunching spot. Live music acts are just right for the space and couldn't ask for more hospitable staff.

I’d never been in this pub before, despite being to York on numerous occasions. Got to say this is a fantastic find. Lovely pub, friendly staff, nice range of beers and to top it off, a unique tale to tell about Dick Turpin (I won’t spoil it, pay a visit). In the cellar. It’s also close to York Dungeon and the river, so a win, win in most departments. Will definitely be returning here on our next visit.

Great spot, tucked quite closely to the castle museum. Plenty of history, cool decor, especially downstairs. Staff were lovely, food and drinks were nice.

Mr and Mrs N were out for an evening in York. They had tickets to see Ward Thomas later on at The Barbican but had time to kill. So they had a walk along the river , taking a photo opportunity as they went along on a sunny evening. They ended up in the Blue Boar inn which is a lovely cozy pub in the olde wolde streets of York. They placed themselves in a nice cozy and quiet corner booth enjoying a very nice pale ale and a pink gin between them. Fairly priced and friendly staff. Recommended for a pre theatre drink. An excellent performance by Ward Thomas later capped off a perfect evening.

Called in here for a few drinks and some food at lunch and was pleased with the results. The chilli nachos were lovely and also had some other snacks, lovely hot and fresh and nice friendly staff.

We visited this pub for a pre-dinner drink, and it seemed to be very popular with locals. It has a nice clean interior which is not always the case in York city centre pubs. The staff were very pleasant and there was a good atmosphere.

Went to the Blue Boar to try another pub in York. So many good pubs in York. Decided to have some lunch, unfortunately the melts were sold out or not available so we opted for a couple of sandwiches fish finger and chicken goujon which came with fries and salad which had a a nice dressing on it. My partner as usual asked an obscure question which the young lady behind the bar had to go and ask another member of staff to confirm. Very decently priced I thought for York and in this current climate at £7.75 per sandwich. Decent beer too.

Beer is decent but the food is terrible. Everything deep fried and mega over priced. £5 for eight onion rings. Korean fries are a joke. Pathetic drizzle of sriracha, 5 jalapeños (?) and some packet grated cheese.

Nice little pub, seating underground was moody which is not bad if this is what you are after. Basement seating offers a more quiet area for chat. Good drinks and normal prices

Was enjoying a night out here until I was removed by a bouncer with no reason at all. I was grabbed and thrown out aggressively without explanation. Power hungry. Abusive staff. Avoid.

Great little pub with good atmosphere and friendly staff. The Holy Grail beer from Black Sheep was superb. The mainly local clientele gave us Tynesiders and our labrador a great welcome. We wiĺl definitely call in here again. Cheers !

Lovely friendly pub with large choice of beers and spirits. Very pleasant atmosphere. A few steps in the property and only quite a narrow building but otherwise very cosy and welcoming.

Limited menu but enjoyed service with a smile and quick felt a little awkward you could have cut the atmosphere with a knife

Called In today and found a beautiful place. My daughter and I both had a few soft drinks and some fantastic food. The staff were very friendly and offered great service. The food was a just amazing and we also had some live entertainment as...

if I could give a 0 point, it would be 0. First time in my life, I was bullied by staff. As a group, we sat at a table in front of the pub ( a deck). We were smoking there, and the bouncer warned us you cannot smoke here, then we went down the road to smoke ( we followed the rules). 5 min later another group started to smoke; my friend asked the guy; why we are not allowed to smoke, but they are allowed. He said that they can smoke, but you cannot. This double standard annoyed us. To protest my friend started to smoke then, the staff started to throw my bag and swear ( we are with a lady at the table) and poured my friend's drink and tried to touch my girlfriend. We wanted to talk with the manager, and he did not do anything. If some people are allowed to do something but others are not, I call it a double standard. If someone from another ethnicity is exposed to such a thing, I call it racism. And the manager preferred to be quiet and defend him.

Average place, staff miserable and rude! We asked for some salt as we’d looked around and couldn’t find any, the waitress slammed it down on the table then complained to her colleague how she hates people asking stupid questions like where’s the salt! Vile in...

Good drinks and seems a nice cosy place. Small stools a bit uncomfortable but we moved onto the bench seat with the cushions so all ok. Lady serving was friendly and welcoming.

This is a great small pub tucked away in a street that doesn’t get too crowded. The staff was helpful with their recommendations and I loved that they had outside seating up in the front. Perfect for a sunny day.

Decided to try "Worst pub in York". Got a local brew. Was a good drop andstaff very friendly. Pricey for local brew, but far better than some I have suffered.

What a disappointment! I have just been served a ham sandwich on dry white bread, spread with margarine with one thin slice of supermarket ham! And paid £7.95 for the pleasure! At least the chips were good!
