Good food... Only had something small, but it was very nice...

We had a family wedding celebration meal for 16 people here yesterday and had a wonderful time. It was absolutely the most perfect place, food and atmosphere and everyone loved it 🥰 the staff were brilliant, so helpful and attentive, nothing was too much trouble. Having the conservatory was ideal as we had 3 disabled and SEN kids with us. The conservatory space and accessible toilet meant the kids and us could all relax without feeling we were disturbing other diners and guests. It truly was perfect. The food was gorgeous and everyone was served at the same time, piping hot and delicious. Thank you Vicky & Phil! Xx Pics are onion bhaji scotch egg with mango salsa (starter) and their signature burger which was amazingly tasty!

Had an amazing Roast dinner here today, ( now under new management )cannot recommend it highly enough. Food excellent and plenty of it. The staff were extremely efficient and very pleasant, so spoil yourself and pay them a visit you won’t be disappointed

We visited Vicky and Phil at The Ship Inn evening as a family of 14. All of the bar and wait staff were helpful, friendly and patient but special mention needs to go to our waitress Ellie B. As a group of 14 ranging in age from 8 months to 74 we were never going to be an easy group to serve but Ellie managed the allergies and fussy eaters admirably! The food was beautifully cooked and plentiful too. We ordered a range of meals including the rump steak, signature burger, gammon, steak pie and lasagne and all cleared our plates. The coleslaw and veg sides were a delicious treat! The lemon tart, brownie (with pistachio ice-cream, yum!!), sticky toffee pudding and chocolate fudge cake are also well worth a try. Unfortunately, we are on holiday and a 3 and a half hour journey is a little long for a return visit but if you are lucky enough to live locally or are nearby visiting then we couldn't recommend The Ship Inn more highly! There was a beautiful view outside of the river and we were lucky enough to catch the sunset from the jetty after our meal. A lovely location, a lovely meal and a lovely end to our family holiday. Lovely pub in a fabulous location. Lovely to outside with the river over the road Food is special if a tad expensive but good place to visit for a treat or just a drink on a summer's day.

Lunch visit on a Saturday at 3pm. After checking menu (fb page) and ringing upon being answered on the 6th time, was assured they served food until 8pm. When attending was told they weren't serving food until 5.30pm. So then, when ordering two halves of soft drinks, pint of fizzy orange and a pint of lager for £19, was then told they had no crisps on sale either. Very disappointing as with 2 hungry kids and a dog and on foot. Also everyone can hear you speaking if sat at an outside front table. Best avoided.

Reopened under new management on 1st August, which is when we visited. The food is now absolutely delicious. Staff very friendly and helpful. It’s in a lovely setting and is well worth a visit.

The pub has recently changed tenants and the previous tenants left no social media passwords nor notified hotel booking websites that they were leaving and that the pub would be closed. The poor new people are being harassed by 'guests' that they know nothing about arriving to find the premises closed whilst it is properly cleaned! Hopefully, the pub will reopen on 1 August 2024, but the accommodation may take longer as all kit was stripped out or needed to be disposed of. CHECK DIRECT WITH THE PUB IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE A BOOKING!!

Arrived on the 27th July only to be told by the Gardner it was closed until the 1st August and will be under new management previous owner was ian I believe. He went to Brazil and is still taking bookings awful behaviour. Good luck to the new owners

Ate here yesterday Fri 21/6 and Sat 22/6 two excellent meals one a rare steak that was really rare gammon cooked perfect today Sat steak pie with chunks of steak not mush an small fish an chips, having an allergy chef was informed and I ate with confidence Well done

Nice friendly atmosphere, great service & great food. Really nice venue for the party we attended.

We went for sunday lunch, we won't go again, we received one wafer thin slice of meat, a scoop of watery mash, 3 roast spuds, and the skin on the gravy was thicker than the meat, when the waitress brought one plate out she didn't even know what meat it was, so it had to be passed round the table to identify it, we recieved a small dish of veg consisting of one piece of cauliflower, 2 pieces of broccoli, and a dozen slices of carrot, between 6 of us, so we had to ask for more, no cutlery or condiments were brought with our meals, we had to go and find our own as there was no one around to ask. I wouldn't reccomend this place at all.

Beautiful pub building/location. Nice beer garden but i wouldnt recommend sunday lunch at all. Plate of grissley lamb it was really poor. Beef was dry and again grissley.. poor cuts of meat, the veg was swimming in water, salmon was just greasy and bland. Not great at all. As a pub its beautiful but sadly the food, was terrible. Service wasnt the best as in customer service. The big bonus is dog and child friendly. Nice for outdoor beer garden n maybe a few beers, but dont expect much more than that.

Been planning a trip to this pub for a while not been as years ,as I used to have a boat on the river, Did not dissapoint service 5 star from phone to book a table to arriving. Food Mitchelling star excellent, best chips I've had ever home made cooked to perfection and the steak was amazing. Reasonable priced and drinks . The young lad that was the waiter what an absolute little star he was very professional and well mannered. This pub is lovely inside and out and great to see dogs are welcome my labrador will be coming next time to sample the steaks . Keep doing what your doing team ship in you won't fail well done . Rooms could do with a fresh coat of paint and general maintenance but for the price it was perfect. Clean rooms and bathroom. Everything you need for an overnight stay. Our evening meal in the pub was amazing, top notch food, and thankfully gluten free options for me. Complimentary breakfast was a bit of a let down for me with no gluten free options except ham and cheeses. But had options of toast, muffins, waffles and cereal for others. Staff couldn't do enough, young lads serving food were super polite and helpful 👌

First time ive been back to the pub in years . Absolutely fantastic and wasnt disappointed. Log fire . Dogs welcome . And the food and drinks were reasonably priced . Very good value . I had the lasagne and it was lovely . Definitely need to visit more often

Booked hotel as I'm a single dad of 2 children and having a hotel room and a cooked breakfast was the reason I paid £215 for the night to get the kids fed in the morning. Breakfast was advertised between 9 and 10 bit late for me but nothing, not even staff on site. Should have stayed in our roof tent for free. Had our money for bed no breakfast and i didn't feed the kids until 11. Should be at least half price

We had Sunday Lunch last weekend. The food was fantastic and plenty of it. I had Lamb and my wife had Turkey. Very well presented by very friendly staff. Could not fault it and looking forward to the next one. Thank you Ship Inn Keith and Sheryl

This place is dreamy in terms of its location and beer garden view of surrounding area. Staff at lunch and evening, Tom in particular, were professional and extremely welcoming. Had a lovely bit of fun on quiz night. Unfortunately the stay was completely marred by the breakfast provision. Room was provided as a last minute booking so staff had to hurriedly prepare a room. This was clean and well equipped with a wonderful outlook over the garden and river. Very restful but the breakfast provision was a total disaster. No cooked breakfast included in the 120 pound room rate and what was provided couldn't even pass for continental. Supermarket packaged waffles and bakewell cake are not breakfast. Toast cereal and cold coffee was a poor effort I'm afraid. If your letting rooms are to succeed get your act together Such a shame to have spoilt an otherwise 5 star review.

Very disappointed 10oz steak definitely not .asked for well done came red . Asked for mushroom’s came tinned and with onions. Tomato 🍅 soggy and toilets not good and definitely wouldn’t recommend and definitely not worth the money sorry

An amazing Pub. The food is excellent along with friendly competent staff and is a perfect pub to come in after a walk along the river, its very clean and cozy for such an old pub, would definitely recommend to anyone visiting York.

Today, Tuesday 11 July, 6 of us had arranged to meet at the Ship Inn for coffee, followed by a riverside stroll stroll and lunch - having checked the website and ascertained that the opening hours are given as 9 am - 12 midnight every day, with food served 'Today' from 9 am. Got there about 1030 to find the pub firmly shut and sign boards displaying opening hours from late morning, and no food on Mondays or Tuesdays. Very disappointing and annoying!! (I tried to give zero stars but this was not permitted!)

First impressions on arrival where not great. . The chairs and tables are in need of replacing. The service from the girls serving us was poor but at least moderately happy. The young guy serving us was just miserable. Plates coming in one at a time with a long gap between the first plate and the last plate coming out. Meaning half the group had finished the deserts before some had either received theirs. The starter was just poor. Chicken liver pâté served on half toasted cheap sesame buns. Just cheaply put together. The main was decent to be fair but the overall experience was just terrible. We live in York and had our wedding reception here 22 years ago. But I won’t ever come bad. It’s location is beautiful but it needs money spending on the building, furniture. The menu needs a complete overall. The menus actually need to be made to look nicer rather than printed pieces of paper that has smudge. The service needs to be with a smile and timely. So much to improve but I won’t be back to see if it ever happens. Such a shame

Visited with my Grandson and his partner. First impression was friendly smiley staff. We all ordered Sunday Lunch. We were not disappointed it was delicious. A good serving with tender meat and assortment of vegetables served separately. They get extra point for a large gravy jug full of extra gravy. We are local and will definitely be returning.

Great place for a bite to eat & drink we had evening meals and a lovely Sunday lunch, staff were friendly and welcoming and great if you are are a dog owner as pets are made very welcome. Will definitely be back.

RIPPED OFF !!! Don't ask for Baileys! Ordered Baileys for my wife, politely asked if I would like a double, I agreed, big mistake !!! £13 +. Questioned it after I'd paid, was told it was £6+ for a single !!!!!! Sorry but you spoilt a lovely day in York. 😫😫😫

The atmosphere was fantastic, very busy and a must visit for any dog lovers! I opted for a prawn cocktail starter and child portion salmon main.... WOW the portion sizes are very generous for the prices, which are very competitively priced (saving those £££s) . Presentation was lovely, but even more so the flavours were spot on and the salmon was cooked to perfection. I'll for sure be visiting again and trying the steak pie as this was highly recommended by the locals! 10/10 to the chef. Bless the staff, it was very busy but each member was so attentive to everyone's needs and nothing was too much to ask, each had a smile on their face which is a rare thing in customer service nowadays. Kudos to the new owners... 👏 👌 Great atmosphere, great food, great selection of drinks, and you can bring your dog along for an afternoon treat too, what more could you ask for :)

We live in the village and have despaired in the past at the way our local pub has been run. We now have new landlords Ian and Robyn and the place has been transformed. There is a new chef in place. Four of us dined here on Friday evening. We had 3 starters and 4 main courses and all were beautifully presented and very tasty. The staff were well organised and friendly. There is a good selection on the menu and prices are reasonable. We will certainly eat here again in the near future.

Well let’s say what an improvement to last year now this pub has been taken over . We have our caravan sited on the front of the river via popular farm and decided to give it another try . The staff where really friendly and service was good at the bar . We where told they had a new chef and credit to him as the food was lovely for pub food …. Excellent location with a view of the river. Had a meal which was served by friendly welcoming staff. It was hot and served promptly. Clean environment. Dogs were welcome inside too which was a big plus. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Will definitely do a return visit

Brilliant pub, been a few times for food, drinks and the quiz. This was out first time back since it re opened and the food was fantastic as always. Real home cooked classy pub food, fantastic atmosphere, the best waiting staff and chefs and plenty of outdoor covered seating. Didn't bring our kids or dogs this time bit have previously and there were a few well behaved kids and dogs there. Such a lovely place right on the river we love it and highly recommend to everyone

We had a table booked for 6.30pm we arrived on time and booked immediately,we were kept waiting for almost an hour and a half and when the food arrived it was cold,will never go again,if possible I wouldn't have given 1 star

Really disappointed with our visitWe booked into the site next door with our camper van and we’re looking forward to a relaxing meal on the first night of our holiday We booked in early as we have a 5 year old and took a table in the conservatory On arrival we were shown into a back room that had a 80/90’s pop channel playing quite loudly and definitely not appropriate for a Saturday night dining feel (personal opinion) The couple before us were shown into the corner table with no bulbs in the light above- when asked the waitress pinched one from another light ?? - this make you look around and see that actually 4 more lights had no bulb in them! Given menus and asked for drinks - no knowledge of drinks - wanted a bottle of cider- got offered the non alcoholic ones but covered the label that said no alcohol when shown the bottle- can’t kid a kidder I’m afraid!Hubby wanted Diet Coke- got served flat cola - charged for coke I ordered fish n chips, hubby a burgerMy fish was bland, chips not salted when cooked, mushy peas (yes homemade) but had no flavour Hubby’s burger was raw in the middle No check backs to point this out- man behind drank his soup as had no spoon- table of 4 next to us can’t sit as a 4 (booked 2x2 next to each other)due to the COVID restrictions- but the staff got it wrong, so the waiter said “they would have to let it slip this time as they had no more tables for them to sit at, and it should be alright “just this once”Waitress finally came after we had eaten what ever we could, after explaining things she came back with “chef says what do you want to do, he will take it off the bill if that’s what you want??” To top it off.... the manager / owner was sat in the same area entertaining his friends and let his staff cope with a multitude of errors and dissatisfied customers Wouldn’t go again if we went to that area

My partner and I stayed for one night on our way home at The Ship Inn. The room was very pleasant and looked out onto the river. Plenty of hot water and a lovely shower. Nice and warm room too for mid October.Breakfast was excellent. My partner had the Scottish breakfast and I has the English one. The owner was very pleasant and no one rushed us to check out. Would def stay there again.

Fantastic pub with really friendly staff. Great selection of ales on plus fabulous home cooked food. Strongly recommend the homemade meat feast pizza (had it twice in 3 days) 😂👍

Reservamos una mesa para tomar algo el sábado por la tarde. Totalmente consciente de que sería solo servicio de mesa. Nos sentamos en unas sillas viejas que estaban rotas e incómodas en un invernadero que estaba frío y vacío. Alguien vino a tomar nuestras bebidas y las recibimos bastante rápido. Luego estábamos esperando 45 minutos después de terminar nuestras bebidas para que alguien más viniera y tomara nuestro segundo pedido. Nadie llegó, así que decidimos irnos. Luego estábamos esperando 15 minutos para que alguien reconociera que queríamos pagar. No volveré de nuevo, muy decepcionado.

Reservé una mesa y pasé a cenar anoche y quedé bastante sorprendido por lo que experimentamos.Falta de cubrición facial por parte del personal, gente haciendo cola en el bar, sin rastro y rastro en su lugar, muy pocos desinfectantes de manos, sin cambios en las instalaciones sanitarias, sin distanciamiento social.La comida estuvo bastante bien y las bebidas bien, pero no creerías que estamos en medio de una pandemia mundial.

Esta ha sido nuestra primera visita por comida desde el cierre y tengo que decir que estoy muy orgulloso de llamar a este mi local.

Mi pareja y yo visitamos el martes 11 de agosto de 2020, pero después de una conversación bastante larga (amistosa) nos informaron que no se servían almuerzos los lunes y martes.Luego manejé 40 millas para hacer una segunda visita al Barco para almorzar el miércoles 12 de agosto. Al llegar pedí un menú antes de pedir nuestras bebidas, después de que nos sirvieran bebidas, mi pareja y yo tomamos una mesa en la cervecería al aire libre con vista al río. Minutos más tarde se nos acercó una camarera que retiró nuestros menús y nos informó de manera bastante seca y sin explicación que el pub ya no servía almuerzos.Pregunté por qué no me habían informado en mi visita anterior el martes que ya no se servían almuerzos y también por qué me habían proporcionado un menú a mi llegada ese día. Un accidente fue la única respuesta de las camareras sin una pizca de disculpa.Solo puedo imaginar que las críticas anteriores fueron enviadas por amigos de los nuevos propietarios, ya que no reflejan la terrible experiencia que soporté en mis dos visitas recientes. La taberna al aire libre se vació bastante rápido cuando los otros clientes hambrientos también fueron informados sobre la ausencia de comida a la hora del almuerzo.Esta es una lección sobre cómo arruinar lo que antes era un excelente negocio que sirvió fantásticos almuerzos.No regresaría a menos que los nuevos dueños me pusieran un arma en la cabeza, incluso entonces lo pensaría mucho antes de decirle que aprieta el gatillo.Algunos clientes del pub me informaron que el nuevo propietario estaba tratando de llevar el pub de lujo y desalentó activamente a los campistas, ciclistas y visitantes a la hora del almuerzo.

Jimmy NewarkI reserved a table for 6 . Table service outside although there was a one way system in place with track and trace also in place was sanitizer and masks For staff / customers to wear. With regards to food We ordered 5 Fish n Chips and 1 Chicken breast with bacon in a bap . All the meals were lovely the batter perfect and the fish was large on everyone’s plate my friend also loved his Chicken Bap the service was also good even though it was busy outside . All I can say is keep up the good work I know it’s been hard with months of floods And Covid straight after . It will take time to get things right again with the kitchen and staff levels so give the Landlord/ Landlady some slack and support them . We will all be back . Thanks guys

Was great to see this lovely pub open again after the winter floods then the corona virus lockdown. There are new Landlord and landlady management who I'm sure want to get things to as near back to normal as possible. Was pretty busy on our visit around the middle of July. We have frequently visited the Ship over many years and the food was generally excellent. The menu on our recent visit was pretty limited possibly due to the virus limitations, consisting of Pizza dishes and Burger dishes, we opted for the meat burger and the chicken burger with chips and onion rings, quite pricey at £13.50, I don't know what happened to the Chancellors VAT cut but it was not evident at these prices. At the bar was a very nice creamy Doom Bar beer tasting as good as it does down in Cornwall and the usual selection of Lagers. Will be calling in again for a few beers on a sunny day. The Ship occupies a prime position overlooking the river Ouse and offers excellent parking facilities. A water taxi operated some years ago dropping people off coming from Town, do not know if it still operates.

We had two nights here in a room with a huge bathroom .It was noisy as we were above the bar but not loud enough to keep us awake.The bath was a large roll top freestanding one looked great but once in it was very slippery and nearly went under so had to hang on to the sides.Asked for a non slip mat but they didn't have one.The meal in the evening was excellent

¡No te decepcionará cenar en esta hermosa posada antigua donde el personal y el excelente chef no podrían haber sido más serviciales y atentos sin ser intrusivos!La comida fue excelente y mi familia y mis abuelos no podrían haber estado más felices.Las opciones sin gluten eran tan buenas que necesitábamos la receta y el chef salió amablemente de la cocina para darnos los detalles. Poco sabía él que mi hijo está trabajando en la gestión de catering de primera clase y quedé muy impresionado.Gracias por hacer de una excelente comida familiar una experiencia memorable. ¡Volveremos!

Hoy visitamos la posada del barco para un almuerzo familiar los domingos, nunca más volveré a entrar en ese lugar mientras la dueña / propietario actual esté allí, la comida era horrible, todo había sido recalentado. el cordero estaba muy grasoso, el resto carecía de sabor, las verduras cocidas y a los 15 para un almuerzo de cordero asado es indignante. ! ! ! ! ! ! Hablé con las camareras y me dijeron que se lo mencionarían al chef que luego vino con la factura y no dijo nada, mi esposo luego trató de explicar nuestra decepción a la casera que simplemente no quería saber. Espero que el futuro arrendador y casera tengan tiempo de escuchar comentarios constructivos y tratar con sus clientes incluso con una simple disculpa, ¡ni siquiera valíamos eso! ! ! ¡Evita este lugar, gasta tu dinero y gana dinero en algún lugar que aprecie tu negocio y no te mire como si nada valiera! ! ! !

I was reading the ‘Terrible’ reviews and wondering why some people have bad experiences when I don’t. I have had incidents of course where staff have been slack or food has been cooked/served wrongly but have never let it escalate to these lengths. I can only think that some customers have a certain responsibility for their own dissatisfaction.Our experience comes from two visits, both on Sundays, one outside in the sun having salads, burgers, steaks. We enjoyed the food, had polite and friendly service, enjoyed it. The other occasion was an autumn day so we ate inside and ordered the Sunday lunch. This was excellent with tasty and tender lamb and beef, good Yorkshire puddings and gravy. On each occasion we had fine cask beer and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

We've been to The Ship inn previously but sat in their lovely garden overlooking the river Ouse. We came for Sunday Lunch this time where my father-in-law was in a wheelchair. The staff went out of their way to find us the right table even though they were busy, so we could sit in the bar area and soak up the atmosphere. The meal was great , freshly prepared and the wine was very reasonable. Will certainly return.

We stayed here for 1 night and what a pleasure it was. On arrival we were greeted by a really lovely lass ( with blond hair, wish I’d got your name ). We were shown to our room which was really nice, beautiful view over the river. Room was perfect, with en-suite shower. Had late lunch in the bar, food was fantastic and plenty of it. Lovely breakfast on Sunday morning. Perfect place to eat and stay, hope we are back really soon.

I stayed overnight with my daughters on the eve of my wedding. The rooms were beautiful with mine having a stunning view of the river. We stayed for an evening meal which was excellent. The staff are friendly and make you feel really welcome. After the wedding we returned for a family lunch and we got such a suprise. The staff had decorated the room so beautifully it took my breath away. Again the food was excellent. I cannot fully described how amazing this place is and how welcoming and attentive the staff are. There is a river boat to York which stops right outside the pub so you can easily travel into York. A taxi is around £10 which is probably cheaper than the parking charges in the centre. I cannot recommend this place enough and we will be returning. There is also a caravan/motorhome park if you just want to take advantage of the food and great atmosphere.

Love visiting, this time we came with friends and it didn't disappoint. The food was fantastic and the staff and landlady were great. Well worth a visit. 5star from us.

What a lovely spot this great Inn commands!We were in the area & as hubby was last here literally decades ago we stopped off for a spot of lunch.So glad we did, we had a light lunch with a couple of thirst quenching beers as it was such a hot day.I went for the steak sandwich which was also piled high with onion rings & salad.Hubby went for the scampi, again a very generous portion.Both cooked well & nicely presented.The pub is literally across the way from the River Ouse so not only can you people watch you can watch the boats go by....very tranquil....A good all round lunch.

We ate at the ship as we have done for the last 5 years having completed the York 10k!!!!
