Food was great but paying £50 for 2 starters and 2 mains it's nice to have a conversation couldn't hear out self think so loud !! Food good shame about the atmosphere! Need a dedicated eating area really. So loud

Booked the cross keys last minute and wow what a great experience. Lovely homely feeling and friendly staff. Food was excellent beautifully cooked and nice and hot. Portions were very generous. Difficult to comment on drinks as we had bottled drinks,but prices for food and drinks very reasonable. I strongly advise anybody in the area to book it will certainly be worth it.

Even though I’ve only given a two star review I will start with the positives. The staff are friendly and I specifically want to give Kaz a five plus star review. She isn’t only friendly, professional and exceptionally good at her job but what impressed me the most was that she also remembered me from my last visit to the UK 15 months ago to the point she new what my order was, this speaks volumes in customer relations. I’m a big animal lover and love that the Cross Keys is fur baby friendly. Onto the negatives. The last time I visited York we spent every single night in the Cross Keys not only based on the positives already mentioned but also because the atmosphere was buzzing with the live music nights and especially the Friday night Karaoke….. what a night to remember! It was probably the best part of my holiday. Sadly there is no longer live music or karaoke nights which has totally destroyed the atmosphere in the pub and the reduced number of patrons is significant. Hopefully management with take onboard what I’ve said and reinstate the music nights

Food was lovely. Steak and ale pie was magnificent. Also had chicken, bacon and avocado sandwich which was also delicious. Atmosphere good and very friendly.

Warm clean very well decorated place. Very friendly helpful staff. Limited choice of alcohol free beers no Erdinger alcohol free for example. Lots of screens for sports. A pleasant visit.

Welcoming pub with lovely staff. Dog friendly. Extensive menu, so great for large parties as theres something for everyone...although my favourite is pizza. Visited a few times and will be back again.

What a shame .. absolutely fab venue, lovely staff .. have spent many nights in here with fantastic bands , but tonight .... OMG ... the worst DJ ever!!! By half 10 , the pub should be banging!!! No .. it was empty! Absolutely terrible, ruined our works do ... never again 😒

I love local and I have never been here,but the group I was recommended it,so we booked for a table yesterday (16th Nov) for 5.00pm on the same day and received an email confirmation,so I was gob smacked when I was told that the table we booked was not on the system till 2 days later,so was told to just go and try and find a table,there was 6 of us and no tables at all so we left,what is the point of placing a booking if the booking does not show up on the system till 2 days later?! This so bizzare and absolutely stupid! Not a great first impression to be honest

Lovely place to eat, so cozy and the food was just fantastic! It was fairly busy when we went but we didn't have to wait long for food to come out either.

Stayed in York for a few days and wanted to go somewhere for our evening meal. Booked a table online after reading reviews and we had our dog with us so we wanted somewhere that was dog friendly. Me and my partner shared chicken strips, tempura prawns and breaded mushrooms to start then I had gammon and chips and my partner had steak and ale pie and chips. Friendly staff, quick service, reasonably priced. Would recommend.

What a lovely little pub. We popped in on a whim, and I can honestly say it was the best decision we made. The service was great and the food was amazing, and cooked to perfection we had the mixed grill and the gammon. Would definitely recommend!

Popped in last night had a great selection of drinks and food was lovely, the gentlemen and young lady behind the bar were very friendly JP and Sabrina and the young girl Lilly on the floor always smiling and very polite, I highly recommend visiting!

Absolutely shocking customer service!! the woman behind the bar 26/10/24 at roughly 6pm was ignorant I stood waiting to be served there was 2 people in front of me which she served then went to the other side of the bar and after serving them I tried to get her attention as she completely blanked me and carried on to the otherside of the bar to serve someone else. I love green king pubs just absolutely shocked

went for some drinks with some friends to watch the football, the young lady on the floor was really helpful putting the game on for us and the bar staff were very friendly will be back

Good local pub but don't have the best beer garden if I'm being honest. Great selection of drinks and food but the beer garden feels too open next to a busy road. If I was to improve the garden myself I would possibly consider adding a treillage for vines/flowers

Had a great night out with friends doing the Quiz on Wednesday. We didn’t win but it was fun. Drink prices are reasonable too which is great

Called here at 5.15pm on Friday 11th October after a visit to York Races. We had previously booked a table for 6.30pm but due to the cold weather we arrived early. This was no problem for the solo male working behind the bar. The food was hot and tasty, drinks weren't too expensive, the girl who brought the food was pleasant and she returned to check that everything was okay. The only negative feedback I can say is that one member of staff behind the bar at a busy time on a Friday night (when there is a race meeting on) is certainly not sufficient. The customer service from the lad was brilliant and a credit to your company, but I seriously think you should look at this staffing issue.

The Cross Keys is a nice traditional pub. There is a good selection of beers, lager and cider, including four hand-pulled cask conditioned real ales a couple of them i had not had before the beers i tried were very good. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, it's a good pub near the race course.

As with many of the places we stopped at, you have to order at the bar. The food was good, but they were out of some of the drink options on their menu.

Seven of us turned up on a fairly busy Friday night withoutabooking. But they managed to fit us in and we ordered food as well. And even though it was busy the food arrived pretty quickly. Good food as well. Would recommend.

Lovely food, went for Sunday dinner after day trip to York. Really good value for money, extremely friendly helpful staff and pudding were delicious

What a disappointment this place was. Having ordered 3 starters we were served the worst so called food we have ever had the misfortune to taste. Instead of a light golden batter around the tempura prawns, we got dark, overcooked, greasy excuse for prawns. The crispy cauliflower appeared the same, as did the chicken strips. It all tasted as though it had been cooked in rancid oil and was awful. We did not order anything else as we were feeling unwell after just a few mouthfuls and left the premises.

Good place for party freak, and good place to refresh yourself with drinks. And back side of the pub there is place for smoking for those who smoke.

We had a delicious meal here recently whilst staying at the Delta Hotel across the road. The staff were welcoming and efficient. The food was excellent and very reasonably price. Yjere was a reasonable selection of wine. The chips are the best I've tasted for a long time. We will definitely be back when next in the area.

Food was tasty, dog friendly, we went at lunch time on a Monday BH so was quiet enough for our pooch as he's younger and learning. Service lovely food came out at a good time minal waiting. Had some side plates and it was enjoyable. Pint of lager shandy was good too!

Nice pub but the food is not their strong point. Steak and ale pie was disappointing. 1cm thick dry pastry, more pastry than filling. Broccoli was old and yellow, the mash was old and dehydrated from the starch being set for a long time. Gravy was bisto’s finest :D. Chips were undercooked. Onion rings were quite good and a highlight of the meal))) The service was good though.

Nice table beside the window, Chalk & cheese staff, some veg & roasties appeared cooked from frozen, cauliflower cheese, carrots & roast potatoes were undercooked, thickly sliced meat was tender & fine & dessert was ok & as expected. I do prefer homemade desserts though. Noisy music playing, staff apologised for smoke smell due to smokers leaving door open. It was ‘fine’, however I want better than fine so not for me & won’t adding to our recommendation list. I guess you get what you pay for £17.99 for two courses , but there is much better on offer nearby so a bit disappointed.

The food is great! Been a couple of times and had jacket potatoe with chilli, mixed grill, hunters chicken and a classic burger. All were really tasty!

Very poor. Took money, then cancelled the order and offered no alternative. This occured on Sunday evening, 23rd June, at approx 7.30pm in the Pub. 3 of us visited. 2 orders were fulfilled, 1 of us was told the meal had been thrown away by the Kitchen Staff, the Kitchen was now closed and there was no alternative available.

Just had food here hour ago i had steak partner had mix grill ,not only did it have to go back as the egg was way over done but the whole lot was, everything tasted frozen! ended up walking out leaving the food £50 and id of rather had wetherspoons !

What a great place to visit is a nice local pub they appear to serve very good food on Sunday when I was there as well as Monday there were quite a few people that were eating Sunday was the busiest day of course if you're here staying at the Delta hotel this is where you need to go

Decent pub across the road from the Holiday Inn.Good selection of beers ,they serve food and the pie and chips was good .The whisky selection isn't great ,but the Gin selection was ,.Staff were friendly and quick ,prices reasonable.

This is a GreenKing, but does its own food and has its own vibe. Always a lovely atmosphere, and the staff are always very welcoming. A great little boozer just outside of the city centre.

Table was booked for 8pm, food was ok although I think they were running out of chips !!!, we couldn’t order dessert as they had stopped serving while we were eating our main course !!!- weren’t gonna finish serving the customers they had in, we stay at the hotel across the road and won’t be back-really disappointed

Visiting for tea, ordered Hunters Chicken, don’t bother, dry chicken, overcooked bacon and a small amount of bbq sauce. Average food.

It's times like these where it is good to be alive. Summer winds started to blow after I ate here. Pies were great, good pints - what more do you want. Not cheap - good price for good food.

Service was good but food was underwhelming. All steaks were overcooked and very chewy. I had mixed grill. Chicken and steak were overcooked and dry and the egg was over cooked. Standard chain pub food but just very off the mark this occasion.

Stayed in motorhome in carpark. Brilliant stopover. Food great and reasonably priced.

Not to busy week days afternoons .But still quite a few in eating & drinking.

My husband's hunters chicken was a little overdone but he enjoyed the flavours. My lasagne was burnt on the top & bottom, the bottom layer was inedible, my garlic bread was burnt too. I did something I have never done in my life- I sent it back. The replacement was fine, served on a scalding hot plate that cooked my salad- which had been scraped off my original plate & added on to the new roasting hot plate. Would we go back? No

Excellent steak and ale pie come from Scotland every year for it

Staff amazing, we had booked food for a table off 8 for a hen party. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Turned out it was disco/karaoke night which turned into a great start of my hen weekend. Food was amazing too. Thanks for a great night 😊

Had fantastic time on new years eve. Food was delicious. Great atmosphere. Lovely staffs although one of the staff I presume supervisor or manager was very rude. Gave tip to one of the girl only noticed that the manager took it off from the girl and put in her pocket. Didn't like her attitude.

Busy pub with only 1 bar person serving, I waited 20 minutes to get served.

First visit for 54 years! Looked like a good community based pub. Seemed to do lots of stuff. A good fit pint. Would happily use it again.

Stopped off in there for a drink on my way home. Was served quickly and there is a fair range of beers available. The gents however smelled so bad of urine I had to get outside for some fresh air. Not planning on going back.

Went for a meal ended up with a ccj for parking in their car park never again. Yes it was here 100% here. It was dark didn't see signs or have to notify bar Im parked in your car park not normal. Affected my credit mortgage. Disgrace.

The pub was very welcoming and busy for a Saturday night, wait for a table was about1/2 hour to 1hour, food was a little over cooked on one meal the other would have been nice if it was hot and freshly cooked, had been standing a while nobody came up to us and asked for feedback on the meal ( the waitress was running around a lot and busy)

OK for cheap lunch loverly pub , but a little bland

Sunday lunch was fantastic, The Beef was falling apart and still medium, Lots of seasonal vegetables. We reserved online and our table had a little chalk board on it with our name. Busy but not crowded for a Sunday afternoon. Very cosy on a wet and windy afternoon. Staff where all very friendly and helpful. Craft beers are available here and the bar staff will help you select one to suit your taste. Overall a real gem on the outskirts of York 20 minute walk but worth it.

Lovely welcoming pub, a male behind the bar was really lovely giving my children colouring in to do! I think he could see how stressed I was as my children were restless! Glad we stopped by on the way back home it was totally off chance we came here but glad we did the Sunday roasts are great! Thank you :) x
