OK food but service was slow. 30 mins for starter to arrive and then another 20 mins for the main. A 12.5% tip was added without asking us too, so they lose a star there.

Good food and portion size, service varied but was generally good. Breakfast was good quality and plentiful but the pancake machine was only available on one day. Drinks were expensive but overall a good option if you choose a half board package at the hotel.

Very disappointed. I ordered the pea and mint risotto which was basically boiled rice with a sauce, petite pois peas with a slight hint of mint. The consistency did not resemble a risotto at all. It was very over priced for what I received. The drinks were not great either. The staff however were friendly and accommodating. My 2 star rating was for the food and not the staff which I would give 5 stars

If it was possible to give a minus score this place would get it. Started with the waitress recieving a call on her mobile whilst taking our order, and disappearing for 10 minutes to answer it. When we tried to order she forgot one persons food, and then brought the wrong drinks. The food when brought was tasteless rubbish, a meat and ale pie that consistered of two cubes of beef and one hell of a lot of gravy, the smallest cod we have ever seen, and 15 chips per person, how luck we are ! Across the road is a resturant called the Olive Tree, go there and enjoy excellent food, served and cooked by people who care.

Yes - I agree with others who have posted reviews for this restaurant. It definitely could do better - the staff were friendly and courteous but the wait for our meals was too long and I found the menu limited. Unfortunately the quality and quantity of the meals were average for the price and certainly there are better restaurants very close by. I think the hotel is catering for those staying at the hotel who include dinner in their package rather than members of the public walking in off the street. It's a shame really as the decor and staff are very nice it's just the standard of the food that needs attention. I couldn't recommend it and even if I were staying at the hotel would not return for dinner.

Used this restaurant because we were staying at the Hilton Hotel. Breakfast was excellent. We went in for dinner input first evening at the hotel. The staff are very good and really helpful, however, I would only describe the food as OK and the menu disappointing for a hotel in this chain. Some of the advertised starters and meals were not available. Meals must be portion controlled and pre prepared, as the chef was unable to accommodate any changes to the menu. For the type of food on offer, the prices are over the top. As we found out on our second night, there are far better restaurants and better food available at much more reasonable prices.

Last Saturday, I went to the theatre, but unfortunately wasn't able to eat there, so went looking. As it was the time of day when most shop restaurants were closing, I found myself at the Hilton and went into the Tower's Restaurant. The bar staff were very efficient, and came with a menu. I ordered a beef and ale pie and a Coke. And waited, and waited, and waited. Eventually, the bar staff realised that I had still not got my meal and went to find out what had happened. Nothing was explained to me, but I was given a free drink. I had to wait another 15 minutes or so for it, so about an hour altogether. it was very tasty, which was a good job!

We received a dinner date voucher for Christmas which included an offer for the Hilton restaurant for a 3 course meal for 2 including a champagne cocktail. We booked it as a treat while we were on a mini -break but were a bit apprehensive and not really looking forward to it, but ended up having a really good time. When we got to the restaurant it was completely empty (being a Wednesday at the beginning of January) so we thought that it was going to be really awkward but it was actually such a nice relaxed atmosphere inside that we paid no attention to anything than each other and our food. The waiter & waitress were lovely, they exceeded all expectations and made us feel completely welcome. The food was amazing, some of the best we have ever eaten. The offer that we went for had changed and we were told that it now covered £30 a head from the whole menu instead of a 3-course meal from a set menu. We had a bottle of wine, a starter to share and a main each and only had to pay for the wine. Would definitely recommend.

We were staying at the hotel with our toddler so booked a table here for dinner as it was easiest. When we arrived the restaurant was freezing, almost empty and then the waiter took us to a table. Although they had a children's menu we were not made to feel welcome with our daughter. The menu options were very limited and not really in keeping with the surroundings, I was expecting something a bit more upmarket. We all ordered items which came with chips. When they eventually found the correct table to bring us our food I had to ask for ketchup and vinegar. We were given one small pot of ketchup for the three of us and the vinegar came in a ramekins with a teaspoon covered something green and crusty - disgusting. However, saying all that, although the ambience was non existent and service was poor the food was lovely! So some good and some bad points, but could be great with just a bit more effort from the staff!

First visit, I had reviewed the menu ahead of time being quite a fussy eater and was pleased to find a few options to pick from. I went for the goats cheese and beetroot ravioli - bloomin' lovely. The others were pleased with their mixture of sandwiches and choose your own topping pizza too. The service was great and the restaurant was tastefully festive and we were lucky to even get a view of the Tower

Had booked in for afternoon tea but when we got there, they had no record of our booking- they were quiet though and we had a lovely window table over looking the museam. This was one of the very few places that offers a vegetarian afternoon tea, with a really nice choice of fillings. However, whilst the fillings were good, the bread itself was very dry- the sandwiches had clearly been made and left out for some time to,get that dried out- not at all freshly made. Nice selection of cakes though, lovely scone and lots of tea. Had the sandwiches been fresh ans not borderline stale, this would've been a 5 star veggie treat.

Hoped to have a romantic dinner with my wife after traveling for 20 days. Booked a table for 2 for eight o clock. The Yorkshire pudding was great, but the young couple with the toddler sitting behind us, ruined dinner. Why parents think it is cute to have a screaming toddler in a restaurant at night, and then ignoring his antics and just carrying on as if he isn"t even there. Absolute waste of time having dinner at all. Adult only restaurants is the way to go.

Stayed in the Hilton hotel for a few days and had excellent breakfasts. Thought we would have dinner there, but what a difference!! the meal was very poor my Wife had the Goats cheese and tomato tart, which should have been called an onion tart, there were so many onions in it, which made it very wet, I had the Fish and Chips which was badly cooked and not very nice, having said that the menu is very small and not a lot of choice. We were there for valentines day. The atmosphere was spot on. The staff were very friendly just a little innatentive. We asked for a drinks menu so the waitress obviously knew we wanted to order a drink but then no one came back to take our order we had to ask someone. Also when asking for the bill and put the card down on the table again it took a very long time for someone to take payment. Otherwise the staff were lovely. The food was mediocre. I had the pate as a starter and it tasted shop bought. There wasn't much flavour. The presentation was great though. My fiance had the tomato soup which he said was nice but nothing special. We both had the beef in tomato and ale in a giant Yorkshire. Which again was nice but the beef could have been cooked longer and the sauce was quite bland. Too tomatoey. I'm a foodie and it was disappointing to know I could have cooked it better myself. WeBoth hadthe sticky toffee pudding for desert which was thebest part ofthe menu. Wasdelicious. Overall it was a pleasant evening.

Sadly this restaurant does not live up to the rest of the hotel. On the night we dined they had no rump steak, no pork or seabass-chicken it is then!. We also ordered a bottle of wine which they had run out of !. Now I expect this to happen in my local pub or beefeater but in the restaurant of a four star hotel??-also worth noting is that all the things they had run out of were coincidently? The cheapest items on the menu!

I am really pleased this restaurant has reopened after such a long time without a chef. It's the perfect place to dine alone or with friends. Always clean and welcoming. I have been eating here for years. It's such a pity that the food let's it down. My go to meal is always poached eggs on brown toast. This was my order on Friday and it was disappointing. The eggs were slightly over but it was the toast that was the problem. The cheapest thinnest tasteless bread available. Because it was obviously the worst sliced bread out there it toasted like burnt cardboard. It always used to be thick granary in days past. My friend had Welsh rarebit that looked like melted cheese had been dropped from a great height. The menu is so reduced now, no cheese sandwich?? and the prices so much higher that it does not give good value.
