Booked a garden igloo for just the 2 of us on Subday night, and it was amazing. Pizza was fantastic as were the drinks but it was your two amazing members of staff that made the night so good for us, firstly the young lady who seated us and explained how it worked to the young man who served our drinks, sorry I did get your names but you two were the ones running around in the wind and rain on Sunday 23rd Feb at night.

ZERO privacy. Got a knock on my door from staff at 3am telling me the other guests can hear my phone conversation. Due to time difference back home had a late phone call about an urgent matter. Normal volume. I have never paid this much on a hotel room with ZERO soundproofing. I can hear others WALKING in their rooms. Don't plan any romantic time in this hotel. Also there is no AC/heat control. Just a miniature heater. The lighting is terrible in bathroom. can barely see in vanity.

We stayed in a tiny room (111), no air conditioning just a large radiator so it was either very hot or cold as you couldn’t regulate it, had to pay £18 for parking in their own car park per night, they charge £18.95 for breakfast so we didn’t bother, decided to have a drink in the igloos in the garden ordering via the bar code on the table only to find out a couple of days later that I’m in a continuous direct debit, never again

It started with a booking made via Booking.com which somehow changed my input dates as I later found out when I recieved a email welcoming me to te property the following eveing (I'd actually booked for 14th Feb not 14th Jan 2025. I immeditely called the hotel and was informed by the rather sharp young lady that I needed to contact booking.com and they could sort this out, she reminded my of the pre 48hr cancellation policy at this point. It was clear I was going to have an issue from here on in. I contacted booking.com and was told its up to the hotel to not request the monies from booking.com and to call them back and ask them to stop this request as a CLEAR mistake had been made. I did this and it became even more clear I WAS NOW AFTER MY SECOND PHONE CALL bothering this young lady who I could only assume was updating her tinder profile and or doing her nails. ? Who knows, but she became rude and massively condecending telling me its not her problem and Ill have to speak with good old Rachel (some kind of manager) tomorrow at 5pm.!!! Called the following evening and spoke to some oth obtrusive obnoxious piece of work who again I was clearly bothering who then informed me Rachel was in a meeting and she'll call me back, needless to say this didnt happen and I had to return the call later that evening where I eventually got through to the elusive Rachy babe, halleluja..! Rachy informed me she'd have to speak with manager man and even so its highly unlikey Id be able to recieve anything as the hotel had a policy and its my fault and they're going to call me back to sort this... Needless to say but I'm still waiting for this call and its now clear to me this hotel have zero empathy or cares towards the general customer. My advice? read the reviews 186 poor 123 Terrible each and every one of them regarding attitude of the staffing.. No empathy, lacking customer service, obnoxious, rude, condecending, obstrusive, dismissive, arrogant to name just a few of the terms used for the managemant and their staff.... over 300 folk can't be wrong...? Churchill keep my 77.00GPB. YOU CLEARLY NEED IT MORE THAN MYSELF. IN RESPONCE TO MANAGER MANS RIDICULOUS COMMENT as expected (and as on your previous replies) the half truths are shine brightly. Let me englighen your audience, the booking was cancelled prior to calling the hotel, this was done immediately after I had seen that the dates had been changed, I personally had inputted the correct date of February the 14th into the calender. Maxi initially informed me there would be no issue with cancelling and I had to contact booking.com to have them raise the requestinion to stop payment from thier end, this was done and booking.com informed me to contact the hotel again to make sure you (the hotel) responded to thier email, it was upon my second call to the now snotty Maxi informed me that shes didnt have the authority to action any form of refund and that I would need to speak with the elusive Rachael who I foulnd like yourself only steps up to their post when challenged. And here we go with the lack of understaning regarding my personal "financial circumstances", you know nothing of such but let me tell you I'm no manager man at some desperate hotel that has a history nothing short of Dick Turpin, after 28 years staffing within the oil and gas arena my financial status isn't too bad, the fact of the matter is you have no place here suggecting anything else Mr manager man so jog on, prior to me contacting my solicitor would would you kindly elaborate on what you assume to my web browsing to be? Dearly me, what on earth are you thinking about with these accusations? Lastly you did not offer me a refund you offered me an insulting 30 pounds and only if I booked directly to the hotel so lets be clear. We're booked into the Grand on the 14th, feel free to pop over if you would like to discuss this matter further. My suggestion to you is retraining, it is more than clear there are flaws within this team at the Churchill hotel. Kindly, Michael.

Family owned hotel staff are mainly local and have been with the hotel for a number of years. They all work well together. We spent three nights here as part of their Christmas break package, which was outstanding. We stayed in the Prince of Wales suite, which is in need of some tlc, it's planned for February 2025. It's a very large room overlooking the front garden and outdoor dining area. The room was comfortable, if as is common with many hotels is a bit short of lights. There is a feature bath in the main bedroom as well as a wet room. Staff had ensured that all the feather pillows and cushions were removed because of allergies. In a similar vein, gluten-free biscuits were provided to our daughters room as she is celiac. This was a nice and surprising attention to detail that we came to expect by the first class staff.

From arrival, to breakfast, to departure all the staff were friendly and very helpful. The only negative was our room was very small and was starting to show signs of age ( loose fitting, wardrobe doors hard to close and lots of paint chips and marks on the walls). The room was however spotless and the bed very comfortable. As others have stated, the room did get very warm even for December but once the radiator was turned down, all was well. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice and excellent service. We will stay again but probably avoid summer stays unless air conditioning is installed during a hotel refurb.

Awful experience. I have stayed in 100s of hotels in over 60 countries and this must be the worst sleep I have had. The rooms are extremely hot and stuffy. There is no ventilation. I stayed with my wife in early May, which is not a hot time of year, and the room was over 30oC (measured on smart watch). We had to use 2 fans on us all night to try to sleep and still barely slept. Just an absolutely horrible experience. I spoke to the reception team and their reply was 'well we are fully booked every night so other people clearly don't mind it'. This is unprofessional and condescending. He then said it's an old building and there's nothing they can do the temperature. How about ventilation? Air conditioning? I very very rarely leave bad reviews but this hotel is the most deserving of one I can think of. Oh and we had this pleasure for over £100 per night. What a joke. Would rather have slept in my car.

Very impressed with this hotel and one to return too again in the future. The room was spotless and very comfortable, front of house staff were incredibly welcoming and more than happy to advise on things to do whilst in York. We only had breakfast on our last day but it was great! A good range of dishes for a good price. The only downside would be the parking fee of £15 per night. This is something that I would've preferred to know when booking the room as it was mentioned during check-in, and it seemed like a known fact in the way it was relayed. I booked through Expedia and nothing stated a parking fee on the website. Other than that, we had a great stay and would recommend to anyone, especially for the location being a quick 10 minute walk from the centre.

Had been staying in clementines hotel down the road. (Great place by the way!) and after a meal at the Ivy around 22.30pm we decided to head here for a drink - nothing special, nothing fancy. Just x2 G&Ts please barman!!! It was a last minute decision to head in, and we saw the lovely pods out front, and the nice seating area under some heaters and thought... why not!? I'll tell you why not... the service is non existent! We walked in, and three women all stood around a desk asked if they could help, so we said we just wanted a drink, we were asked if we were staying in the hotel, which we replied no... we aren't. After some incredibly obnoxious eye-rolling and huffing and puffing about this, one said sorry the bar is closed, then another said well, if you're just having one you can... at the bar, we received the staple Churchill hotel welcome.. 'bars shut'. Ok, that's fine, but the lady out front said it was open if we are just having one...? again, another sigh! i know how you feel mate, how terrible someone wants a drink in a bar! we stupidly got a drink, sat outside, decided the G&T wasn't even that nice, and carried on. Got back to our hotel bar, welcomed like we were humans and spent a few pennies! I can wholeheartedly say, I wouldn't go back. would recommend avoiding this place for a last minute drink, at all costs.

I was very puzzled by the food I was served this past weekend. When told that the prawns starter was not available, I opted for the hoisin mushroom skewer. This was explained as 'just mushrooms on a stick' by the waitress. We explained we were in a bit of a rush. So we were going to have just 1 course. It took 45 minutes to arrive. And it was not mushrooms. It took me a while to work out what it was, but I decided it was shredded duck, shaped in lumps, put on a skewer and drizzled with hoisin sauce. Once I got the idea of what I was eating, it was actually quite nice. Wouldn't have been though for a vegetarian thinking they'd ordered mushrooms 😉 and the skin on chips and the skewers were like warm, rather than hot. Disappointing. I'd post a photo, but can't see an option to do this.

The Hole in the Wall is a nice cosy traditional pub with a real fire and a contemporary feel. There is a good selection of draught beers, including four hand-pulled cask conditioned real ales. The ones i tried were in excellent condition. I haven't tried the food, but the menu looked very tempting.

Been coming to York for years but only visited this place for the first time on Sunday just gone, Great pub, good choice of beer. And the food menu looked fantastic, as did the food coming from the kitchen, Overheard that they were booked up for Sunday lunch, but we weren't looking to eat so weren't disappointed. But know to book in future if we want to return!
