Wilde's Wine Bar in York

Hadnt been here for a while but had 2 bar meals today . Excellent food, great value for a city centre bar and would definitely return.

Great service and the food is brilliant. I had the 8oz sirloin steak for my main. It comes with chips, mushroom, onion rings and grilled tomato. Absolutely amazing. Will definitely return.

Have been visiting this bistro for the last 30 years or so and always had decent food at a fair price but last night was disappointed, we chose an 8oz sirloin steak, meal was ok on the whole , oven chips and a tomato and mushroom so not a big portion. The price was £22.95 plus £3.50 for a pepper sauce ( on line menu still shows £19.95 including sauce). What wound me up the most was £6.18 service charge, only 2 of us, which when I challenged was told was correct by the current owners. Sorry but we won't return.

Yesterday I had some of the chips topped with bacon bits for a late lunch. It was delicious. Generous portion with plenty of melted cheese on the chips. Highly recommend. Also, great selection of fruity gins, my favourite being Chase pink grapefruit.

Excellent food. Had the calamari as a starter, lovely and crispy. For my main, I had the classic beef burger. Best burger I’ve ever had. Highly recommend this place.

Stumbled across this lovely wine bar on a very hot and busy day. Very quiet, friendly staff and really good lunch. The ploughmans was huge, everything fresh. Can't believe it was so quiet. I bet the evening meals are just as good. Decently priced too.

Wildes is always warm and welcoming and the food was delightful as ever. Had one of their proper burgers served with generous side of chips and salad. The place offers high quality with no fuss. Highly recommend this hidden gem

Definitely worth a visit. We haven't been for a few years and Wildes has changed hands in the meantime. I had the chicken, bacon, cheese and bbq sauce burger. It was delicious. Hubby had the Mexican boar burger which he thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommend this delightful bistro

los callejones de york son el mayor atractivo. uno se va perdiendo mientras los recorre. al final de uno de ellos encontre este bar. dia frio y con lluvia me vino genial! riquisimo, super bien atendido y muy buena decoracion. recomendable!

Came here with my mum the other day and we both had burgers. They were amazing! Best burger I've ever had. I also had 2 cocktails for the 2 for £10 and they were also delicious.

Had been recommended to visit here on our trip to York and really pleased we were. Lovey food (we both ordered sandwiches/ciabattta), drink, service and venue. We felt it was very reasonably priced. Nice and fresh. Nicely tucked away by the side of the Minster.

Somos visitantes habituales de los wildes. El clima es solo para tomar una copa o para comer, la calidad nunca cambia y siempre es increíble. El pollo cajún es un firme favorito. Hay una amplia carta de cócteles y bebidas y los precios también son razonables. El edificio en sí es cálido y acogedor, está decorado con mucho gusto, los asientos al aire libre son perfectos paraun bocado o una bebida al sol. El personal siempre es amable, educado y el servicio es excelente. ¡gran lugar!

El personal fue cálido y acogedor desde el principio hasta el final sin excepción, especialmente la chica rubia de aspecto más joven cuyo nombre acaba de escapar de mi mente. La comida era deliciosa, las bebidas llegaron rápidamente y eran tan buenas como la comida. El ambiente era encantador y acogedor. Impresionante en todas partes. No podría recomendar lo suficiente, ¡definitivamente no es un lugar para perderse!

A fabulous little bar hidden away ...great prices on gins..fabulous and polite service from Chelsea...lovely clean toilets (bonus) would definitely come again when in York

I visited today with some friends for a few cocktails and was very impressed with the service that we decided to grab a light bite to eat. The dirty fries were absolutely gorgeous. I would recommend this lovely little wine bar to anyone visiting York City Centre. Plenty of signage and other precautions have been put in place in relation to the new government guidelines which made us feel safe. A warm and welcoming atmosphere as soon you step through the door. Will certainly be returning.

Amazing hidden away bar in York! Me and my boyfriend have visited for drinks before but we recently went for food and I had an amazing meal, Cajun chicken with chips and onion rings. You get a lot for the price and the food was delicious! Me and my boyfriend will definitely be visiting again! The atmosphere was warning and a great place to be!

A menudo hemos tomado bebidas en Wilde's pero no hemos comido allí desde que los nuevos propietarios se hicieron cargo. La comida siempre se veía bien cuando hemos visto a otras personas comer allí y el personal siempre es muy amable. Reservamos una mesa para 8 para celebrar el 60 cumpleaños de mi esposo. Cuando llegamos, habían decorado la mesa con confeti y globos. La comida era deliciosa y bien presentada. El personal venía regularmente para ver si queríamos más bebidas y para comprobar que la comida estaba bien, eran atentos pero no intrusivos. Nos permitieron traer nuestra propia tarta de cumpleaños. Definitivamente recomendaríamos Wilde's. Gracias a Mado y al equipo por una gran noche.

Always used to like Wilde’s. Not after today. Ordered a lasagne and boar and beef burger with cheese. Waited a ridiculous time for them to arrive (the place was less than half full). The lasagne was ok. The garlic bread was cold with a horrid greasy garlic butter on top - the waitress did bring me some hot garlic bread but it soon cooled down and was the same. The ‘salad’ was a few green leaves with a very small amount of onion and 2 bits of pepper. The burger was tasteless, the onion rings inedible and the coleslaw was probably fresh 5 days ago, the chips were ok. Had someone asked as we were eating we would have complained then but they didn’t. Paid the bill in full then told them we were really disappointed. Were thanked for feedback and told they would inform the chef. Will not be going back.

Needed a rest from being a tourist in York, so stopped off here. Made very welcome, ordered the cheese nachos which served 2 people, and re-charged our batteries for a good hour and a half. Lovely and quiet, just what we needed. Will definitely come here again when next touring in York.

We had a glass of wine/beer and shared a ploughmans platter. Good quality ham/pie/cheeses. Nice young lady served us and was very friendly.

We had lunch at Wilde's on a Saturday lunchtime. We had booked a table, and were glad that we did as it did get busy and soon filled up. It is quite a long time since I visited and would say that I definitely will be back soon. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was very relaxed. Our food was delicious. I chose the red pepper and butternut squash lasagna and it was really good. My friends also thoroughly enjoyed their scampi and chicken Caesar salad, washed down with a very enjoyable bottle of SB!! A very pleasant way to enjoy lunch on a wet Saturday afternoon!

Been here twice now and both times enjoyed the food and service. It is a very cosy and inviting Bistro. A pleasant place to either eat or just have a drink.

Wilde’s has been taken over by a lovely bloke called Mo. This is a great place to eat and relax with friends or family.

Gorgeous well stocked bar and totally delicious food. Hidden behind Stonegate and totally worth seeking out. Will definitely be visiting regularly.

Sad to report as I have spent many an afternoon in the old Wildes drinking Leffe and eating.

I have been to Wilde’s on a couple of occasions and it has never failed to disappoint. Excellent food and friendly staff who can not do enough for you. Wilde’s is tucked away but definitely worth a visit

We popped in mid-week for a late lunch and ordered a sandwich and a soft drink each. The service was attentive and well paced, the sandwich was fresh and tasty, and the value was excellent. Definitely come back here again.

Have eaten here before, menu had changed but never fear-food is just as good! Portion size is really good. The guys serving were amazing. Really recommend this place

Fui a York por un fin de semana y, aunque tiene cientos de bares, no pudimos resistirnos a ir a Wildes dos veces. Está tan relajado sin gente pretenciosa y las bebidas eran razonables: 4 para cualquier ginebra, mucho mejor valor que 19 para dos ginebras de sabor horrible en otros lugares.

Visited with my daughter and opted for the hot sandwich deal including selected drink. I had the steak sandwich with a later. The ciabatta was so soft and steak delicious! My daughter had ham and cheese one. We added chips which we did not need as the sandwiches were huge! Service very attentive. Plenty of people where stopping to look at the menu but not always coming in but having said that there where a handful of customers in. We have been once before and will visit again.

Stumbled upon this place by accident as we were looking for somewhere to eat that served gluten free food. Checked out the menu and decided to venture in. So pleased we did!! Staff were really friendly and helpful. Ordered food and drinks and the service was superb - nothing was to much trouble. Had a little wait for food but assumed this was because of the dietary requirements. Once it came it was delicious!. Both food and drinks were reasonably priced.

This bar is great...Lovely staff and a great price for beer and quality food in the city centre. Nestled in a corner so easily missed but massively underrated ...Don't miss this bar out.

Left slug and lettuce peckish on our trip to York and (literally) this was the first place we stumbled upon. Never knew about it before but the menu looked tasty and fair priced so gave it a go. Cant fault this place one bit. Food was hot and genuinely delicious. The service was next to none, friendly from the start and as it was raining they even offered to call a taxi for us once we were done. Great atmosphere, especially sat upstairs listening to some chill songs with a gin. Lovely experience

On the outside this place looks very unassuming. Inside the owner and bar man are amazing. The drinks are much more reasonable in price. The upstairs conservatory is stunning. The clouds are beautiful. The atmosphere is fabulous a definite York find.

Found this little gem by accident and so glad I did. I was pointed in the general direction by, belive it not, a roman centurion when i asked for a dog friendly pub serving food. Was welcomed by friendly staff (found it difficult to find a dog friendly pub in the city) I chose the hunters chicken burger, nice big burger, well cooked with nice home cooked chunky chips and salad.

We have gone here since it opened and it was always great.

A brilliant find in the centre of York. We visit York often but have never been in Wildes, that's changed now as we'll definitely be back. The atmosphere was great and calm away from the hustle and bustle of York. Nice music was playing and the staff were brilliant. We ordered hot sandwiches with a glass of wine for £6.95 each and it was such great value as the sandwiches were delicious and came with crisps and salad. The white and rose wine were full of flavour and we decided to stay for another drink after our lunch. Would definitely recommend and the rest of the menu sounded great.

A fabulous (and when we went, quieter than some of the surrounding bars) gem of a wine bar that we found on a busy Saturday night in York. What a fabulous place! Very friendly and accommodating staff, good range of drinks at fair prices. We plan to return!

Fiesta de 3: ordenó un sándwich y 2 ensaladas que tardaron 40 minutos en llegar. A pesar de la larga demora, la comida era normal, si no mala. Faltaba 1 ensalada, se aliñaba y se acompaña de pan plano. El pollo en la otra ensalada claramente había sido precocinado y luego calentado. El personal era muy agradable. Cuando fuiste al baño, pudiste ver a 3 miembros del personal de cocina charlando y comiendo en la cocina. . . así que no pudimos entender por qué esperamos tanto tiempo para nuestra comida. Una verdadera pena, ya que es un encantador restaurante con un personal agradable en una excelente ubicación.

We went and it’s clearly under new management. Decor unfinished, no locks on toilet doors, menu laminated sheets, no music or atmousphere. Ordered sandwiches came as panini, coke was flat, unable to offer receipt. Despite only one more table in at time. Food took ages and was nothing special for the price.

Na een lange dag door York gesjouwd te hebben is dit een prima plek om lekker uit te rusten. Is niet zo groot maar wel gezellig. Het eten is er voortreffelijk. Probeer voor al de kaasplank. Heerlijk.

Stumbled across this place and it was perfect..everywhere on a Saturday late afternoon was so packed but this place was pleasant. Lovely vibe and not crazy busy. Good service and good drinks.

Called in for a quick lunchtime sandwich.Young man who served was polite and pleasant.Food that came was quick and as described. Price quite reasonable (for York !). Worth a quick pop in if shopping.

Lovely evening meal with my wife. Quiet yet lively and fun atmosphere. Food & drinks great as always. Staff are fantastic. Even got a couple of free shots last time :-) Real hidden gem! Been a few times - I actually proposed to my now wife here nearly 3 years ago. Would recommend!

Wildes used to be the place to eat 10/15 years ago. Visited from Ireland for a Birthday treat for my father's 80th.

We had a great get together with12 of us for my Husband’s 30th birthday. Had drinks outside first then sat downstairs for lunch of sharing platters which were delicious! They allowed us to decorate and have our own cake which was great. Had a really enjoyable afternoon there.

We have eaten here twice in recents months and have found it an excellent place for lunch. The price for their sandwiches is really good. Freshly made with a small portion of chips, really good value.

My wife and I frequent Wildes Bar for lunch. We love this hidden eatery. Their lunch menu includes a choice of cold sandwiches with a glass of house wine red/white... There are other beverages included in this offer but, the wife and I like a cheeky glass with our sandwich. along side the sandwich is a little basket of chips and a small salad which is always fresh and crisp... Always delicious. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

As a local I visit here quite a lot. It's the only place I know in York with Affligem on tap, a regular draught in France and Belgium, but nit in the U.K., although not cheap at £3.50 for a half. I had the Cajun chicken and enjoyed every bite

My husband and I were looking for somewhere we could eat outside with our dogs and we stubbled across this place. There were a few tables outside and the lunch menu looked good so we decided to eat here. We both had paninis & chips which were good and the cost wasn’t too bad either.

A lovely wine bar that serves food and it’s all great! Outside space front and back and great service. Keep this place to yourself, I like to be able to come back without a massive queue!!!

Visited with two friends for lunch today - all started off well, although the waitress was not happy when I asked for dressing on the side of my salad (cue nippy comments when my friends ordered about whether they were ok with the menu item as is) but meh. Two of us ordered ceasar salads (FYI gem lettuce, bacon/pancetta should really be present, this was bagged salad and a chicken breast) but the bagged salad hadn’t been washed and tasted awful.

Been visiting Wilde’s for the last 25 years. Love it. Had lunch here again and never disappointed. Came back later that evening for drinks and no problem taking our 15 year old son with us as some bars don’t allow children after certain times. Lovely cosy wine bar with candles and a great ambience

4 of us ate after a wander around Barley Hall, the food was fantastic- it came quickly and was fresh, tasty and a generous portion.

Having been here as a teen with my partner, we found ourselves on a short break in York and HAD to come back here. It is a quaint little place with a lovely atmosphere, we had previously come for an evening meal but stopped off for lunch on my birthday last week!

Me and my wife visited this place on a Thursday night at around 8pm. It wasn't too busy which was nice. I was actually quite surprised by both the service and the food. Being a veggie can sometimes be a bit hit and miss, however both of us had a really nice meal in here. If I were to come back to York then this would be a place I would come back to again.

Popped in for a wine a couple of time at around 10pm Friday. Its pretty much dead by then so no idea what the atmosphere is like earlier but it down a nice little alley.

My first visit. It was a Monday lunchtime & although it was busy, it was an extremely pleasant & enjoyable experience. I was impressed by the ambience, waitress service & general overall setting. I will definitely be visiting again very soon & would thoroughly recommend everyone to try this wonderful place.

My wife and I had a fab lunch at Wilde’s. The food was excellent as was the service. The beef in the beef baguette was so tender and along with lashings of beef gravy was a real treat. My wife had the chicken pitta with a lovely salad.

Start to finish, from the decor to the service and of course the food, was just awesome.. would recommend! So cosy and accommodating, definitely going to return, we had pasta dishes but we saw the pizzas and they looked great!

After a spot of Xmas shopping I scanned Tripadvisor and found this spot for lunch and saw the quite positive reviews. However, with this being said, myself and my partner left ultimately very underwhelmed. I opted for the ‘club sandwich’ but was met with a tiny side salad, about 5 oven chips and the contents of a traditional club sandwich inside what can only be described as a burger van bread cake. My partner questioned this with our waiter and we asked if we could swap if for ‘normal bread’. The waitress said they had brown bread to which I said is fine, toasted. The waitress care back with a white bread cake n said it was toasted. The waitress also got defensive by saying the menu states it’s in a bread cake. Nice enough place although I wouldn’t go again as there are plenty more places to try around York.
