The best restaurants serving British food in York Yorkshire and The Humber

Excellent food, cake, coffee and service. Lovely to be able to support a local coffee shop, with all profits going to community projects.

Went to try out the bingo on Saturday evening. We could have been approached much much better, with not being members.! Unfortunately we won't be going again.

I agree with the other reviews that the food is excellent, however, I felt that the service we were given was a lot cooler than that given to those who are obviously regulars. This left us feeling quite uncomfortable and as though we were imposing upon them.

This is a little gem of a place. The food is first class and the service is perfect. Understandably, the restaurant/cafe was busy. If you want a good meal for a good price, this is the eatery you need to visit.

A tad expensive for my liking. A kids sandwich is one slice of bread & one rasher of bacon for nearly £5. Not that I'm being cheap but one slice of bread.

Yes, you can't book but this place is worth a punt on a spare table. Pretty good range of on tap drinks but - on our visits - the Belgian stew on special was really top notch. We also had the breakfast sausage and bacon rolls which were lovely. The decor is really unique including a stuffed dog in the fireplace !

We visited here this evening has we are away for the Easter Weekend & decided to book a table for Good Friday. The staff were amazing, was a busy day & they were all happy & smiling. Our server Nikki was absolutely fantastic. Our food was so lovely the Large Haddock was very Large, the chips were cooked to perfection & the homemade curry sauce was outstanding

Fantastic roast lamb Sunday lunch!

We visited the Gate Inn for Sunday lunch. A nice choice on the menu and we weren't disappointed with the roast pork and lovely desert. The car park can get full as the pub is popular but parking in the street is available a few short steps away.

Great fish and chips, crispy batter and all at a very reasonable price! What’s not to like 🙂

Nice food and professional servers

Stumbled across the hall while completing the York Cat Hunt. Highly recommend popping in 1) to see the hall 2) to have a lovely cuppa and a sit down.

Quiet little cafe. Lovely sandwich, it was huge so one was enough for us both. Really tasty bacon and Brie toastie. Friendly and quick service. Dog friendly. Cakes looked lovely too.

Unfortunately- MELK no longer exists well not at 12 Clifford street anyway so there is still a cafe there but it is called Drift. We just had a coffee as they didn't have any vegan cake or pastries. They did offer other vegan options such a breakfast but I wanted cake!
