The best restaurants serving British food in York Yorkshire and The Humber

I go here regularly often 3/4 times a month. Good fresh fish and friendly staff. Upstairs is usually not warm recommend you eat downstairs. Service charge automatically added at 10% Nice food always consistent of recent times.

I played two games of chess with one of the regulars, winning the first, but losing the second. Diplomatically, we kept it at that. However, it was the beginning of a long conversation with a whole host of lovely York people, laughing with nice music in the background and fresh pints strewn about. I would love to become a regular here.

Food was excellent, staff were friendly and pub had a great atmosphere. Particularly good if you have a nut allergy too as all menu items are nut free. However, only a 4 stars as it is greatly overpriced. 6 quid for a bottle of peroni and 19quid for a cheeseburger and chips was very steep. As i said, food was really good, but was easily a fiver overpriced

We have visited a couple of times. Lovely fish and chips. I really enjoyed my meal. My mum ordered the gluten free haddock. She thought it was delicious. She has really missed good fish and chips. We will definitely be visiting again 😊

Fantastic place. Guinness served is of high quality. Wonderful place and staff super friendly, especially the chap with the American/south African accent whose name I didn't catch . Don't hesitate to visit ! We will be back

Wow wow wow Stunning Sunday roast enjoyed by all of us very well presented and I cannot praise the staff enough looked after us extremely well helped with gluten free and another person with but allergy great portions and we were all full at the end will definitely be back next time in York highly recommend

Buen menú para un día húmedo en febrero. Teníamos el jamón, huevos y patatas fritas, la pila de ensalada era tan grande como la pila de patatas fritas - en el buen sentido. Huevos perfectos y rebanadas gruesas de jamón. Buena obra de arte decorando las paredes. Bien situado justo fuera de las murallas de la ciudad.

Hotel is amazing! Wanted to also treat my parents to afternoon tea for her 85th birthday. It cost over £150 for 4 and it was ok. The staff seemed bothered and a bit snooty when you asked for anything. Also the savoury choice wasn’t great, scones tiny and cakes ok. We had a nice time but just not as good as I’d hoped. But if you are staying at the hotel that is lovely!

We booked in advance for the 9 course tasting meal and it did not disappoint except perhaps for the asparagus! It was well balanced and can be held up high with many Michelin starred restaurants. The service was very good with each course well explained. We shared the wine paring as it would have been too much wine for us. The tables are well apart from each other. Enjoyed the amuse bouche too. Would recommend.

unassuming local pub with excellent food & very friendly people. Very reasonable prices & decent portions as well. We were in a caravan park a mile up the road & went midweek for dinner. No hesitation in recommending this one and we will be returning on our next trip.

Reservamos un té de la tarde para el día de San Valentín y no nos decepcionó. El entorno, la comida y el servicio era excelente. Kalab & Isabelle hicieron toda la experiencia aún más especial con su atención al detalle y su comportamiento acogedor. Estábamos sentados en la planta superior con vistas al mercado de ruinas. El carácter de este edificio y la vista desde nuestra mesa realmente ayudó a establecer el tono para una comida romántica. El té de la tarde en sí estaba muy bien pensado, no pude encontrar un fallo. Posiblemente sea uno de los mejores que he tenido. Estaremos reservando la próxima vez que estemos en la ciudad.
