Great evening visit at the Shambles Tavern. Unfortunately no food, but a great selection of beers and easy, happy, friendly service!

Very fun evening listening to great music and meeting new friends! Excellent cocktails, the apple cider was refreshing and the house ale was delicious. The musician played Dire Straits upon request. A great time.

A fab pub in York! Lovely settings, friendly and helpful staff, tasty food and generous portion sizes! Also a great selection of gluten free beers (and the food all clearly marked GF). Would deffo recommend!

Good selection of draught and bottled Beers, let down by the lukewarm attitude of the staff, which changed from moody to gregarious when their mates came in and hogged the bar area talking volubly as if no-one else was there. It's a shame as the bar it's self is an amazing place ruined by a clique.

A friend& I went to the tavern today 3/8/24 for a light breakfast, we sat outside for 15+ minutes, nobody came with the menus so I went inside to let a member of staff we would like the menus, a girl with glasses on wearing a black top didn’t speak just made a sound, we then waited another 20 minutes then a guy came out he said we had a 20 minute wait for food, so my friend& I left in disgust after waiting so long to be served, the female with the black top needs to be trained in customer care, her attitude is unacceptable,I did complain to the guy who came out about her attitude he said “ sorry& went back inside.

Called in with family today and was served by Jamie who could not have been more helpful and also a regular called John? Who was also so helpful with advice as to where to. Visit during our short stay.we will be back.

Brilliant charismatic pub great beers great staff too

Nice little place,soon got full over lunch. Me and a friend had the burger with proper chips,excellent. My wife and friend had the cold pork pie and mushy peas and said not very good. Too many mushy peas and too salty,pie was cold as though it had come straight out of the fridge rather than let it stand at room temperature for a little while. Overall good service and bill wasnt excessive so dont want to make it sound bad,would go again if visiting york just wont have the pie and peas.

We stopped here several times on our flying visit to York and each time we had a great experience A tiny pub in the shambles that served local ales The food looked tempting too and comments from fellow customers were positive too We will definitely be back

Favourite Pub in York. We didn't eat here but went in for drink and the live music. First night was The Mechanics and the next night Bash. Superb evenings, would recommend getting there a bit early for a table at the back. Music starts "early" 6:30/7 and can finish around 9:30. Staff were really friendly and the prices very reasonable also.

A very busy pub situated in The Shambles area of York. 6 hand pumps of beer, along with bottles and cans that can be drunk inside. Bar snacks are also available. Food is available and although I didn't order any what I saw looked really good There is outside seating for those warmer days that face a bustling market place. The Shambles pub is also dog friendly. At the time of visiting it was very busy. But, the staff were coping really well and were also friendly. Definitely worth a passing visit if you're in York for the weekend.

Disgusted at the staff and customers smoking in the doorway. Verbally abusing people waiting in the ghost merchant queue that complained about the smoke!

Visited here twice, once for breakfast and another time for lunch. Great wee pub, you can sit upstairs or through the back and weather permitting outside looking into Shambles Market. Attentive staff who gave good advice on the local rums and gins available. Breakfast was very tasty, we opted for the small breakfast but there’s also plenty of it. Good quality and very tasty food. Had lunch here too before we got our train. Opted for the sharing bowl of Dirty Fries, like breakfast it was a good sized portion, enough for 3 of us. Food cooked to perfection, cheese, onion, bacon and chips - what’s not to like 😋 Both times we got a seat at the window upstairs, great place to people watch as the Shsmbles is such a busy place. especially the queue for The York Ghost Merchants 👻 Definitely recommend this place for food or even just a place to have a rest and a drink

A nice little tavern. Unfortunately no smoking or vaping allowed in the "outside" area which was slightly annoying, but rules are rules. The Mechanics were playing and they were generally a decent covers band! Hopefully they never played "Sweet Child O'Mine" just out of spite after the dude was requesting it after every song 🤣

Had a very enjoyable lunch here on Monday. Had the ploughman's sandwich which was delicious and great value for money. My friend had the ploughman's lunch that she throughly enjoyed. The staff were friendly and provided an excellent service. Really loved the atmosphere. This was my second visit and looking forward to visiting again next year.

Fantastic food, fair priced and service was incredible, served by a very attentive lady with brown/red hair, she ensured we had everything we needed and couldn’t do more for us, the salad was full of interesting things, far from plain with a beautiful dressing; the toastie was absolutely lovely too! Thankyou so much for a lovely lunch! X

Was in York for the night and stopped off here to have a quick drink. Ended up having a few while listening to the performer. Amazing atmosphere and drinks were good. Staff all friendly

It's my favourite place to visit in york. Staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. Great band on Saturday night in bear garden and beer and spirits to fit every taste.

The Shambles Tavern is the only pub on York's historic street and you'd be forgiven for thinking it was just another gift shop. Don't be fooled though as this is a great little café styled tavern with a small bar to the front, a nice low beamed back room, upstairs space and an inventive beer garden under the cover of the Shambles Market. They can even close off the outside space in the evening for their regular live music. The Shambles Tavern is certainly more than meets the eye. With a range of their own branded beers brewed by RUDGATE BREWERY and two guest pumps there's plenty of cask to go at even before you are tempted by the wall of cans behind the bar. Prices are a little higher than average but worth it for the unique location. We had great friendly service and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed away from the hustle and bustle of the Shambles. This is one tavern that is definitely worth visiting.

We nipped into here for some lunch. I had the burger and fries and one had a toastie and the other 2 had sandwiches. We all enjoyed our food. The rhubarb cider was lovely. Very busy as the Christmas markets are on but we managed to get a table

I have just had one of the best night's out in York the band bang bang bang we're playing, the music the atmosphere was fantastic if you get chance go there music bands play most nights so much fun for all.

Tried to go in sat night, 2 couples after we had just had a meal round the corner. Place looked empty , sign said open but he told us full to capacity, bar lad didn’t believe we were from York, we’ve grown up and lived in York all our lives, he said I sounded like a cockney! If your face fits kind of attitude

This restaurant I have visited a number of times with friends as we live in York, it is situated in a good place for people to drink& eat, central to all amenities,on our last visit we went for breakfast, we had to wait for 10 minute's for the waitress to bring the menu's my friend asked her 3 time’s,she seemed to be more interested in other people entering the restaurant after us, the girl in question slim brown curly hair tied in a pony tail with glasses, she made our visit Very uncomfortable, she certainly needs training in how to respect customers& loose the bad attitude, one of the young guys came to our table he was Very polite so the girl in question should make notes from him how to be more polite instead of moody.

Lovely and cosy sat outside even in September and the local pigeon came and joined us. He is called Fat Ted 😂 Don't know why !?!?!?

A lovely little find in Shambles Market. Excellent choice of beers - even Gluten Free beer which my husband was happy about! Food was great and the bar manager is excellent!! Has a great cosy atmosphere and would highly recommend.

Must visit in York City Centre!! A wide variety of ales, beers, ciders, and liquors. The staff was friendly and courteous. Prices are reasonable and are similar to other pubs. Didn't rate the food due to not purchasing

What a fantastic meal! We had a lovely time at this great little place, and were so pleasantly surprised by the absolutely outstanding value for money! Considering this place is in the centre of the Shambles, it is incredibly affordable with fantastic food and a great selection of ales.

Yesterday i came to York and found this place thinking it was a nice little pub but it was anything but that, i had been to the toilet and when the waitress came past she made a big song and dance about it and everytime she came past me she made snide remarks,she also was slagging off all the customers very loudly with her colleague in front of other customers. Safe to say i will not be returning.

Great food, friendly staff, what more could you ask for?? We come here every year in the summer and enjoy it every time. Look forward to next year coming back! One thing I will say is the tight corridor near the payment area is abit annoying.

Great front room great following of tourist/locals and bar staff good There were 3 shambles ales on as picture shows This pub at the back had a larger room and a beer garden overlooking yorks' historical market A must to visit to drink real when in York

Only stopped in a few times on our walks down the shambles. I don't drink much and when I do I'm definitely not a cider type of guy but the cider there is unreal and the service was brilliant pleasant people. We didn't get no food there though so I can't really review food I'd not eaten but looked well presented on the plate.

I don't know her name, but she had Red hair (if Im correct?) She was Wearing all Black. A Snap On top. (Jumper I believe?) Black bottoms and Nike Air max trainers I believe. I went to the toilet, while my family ordered their drinks. After I went toilet, I ordered my Drink and Paid For Mine And My Families drinks at the bar and explained this to the Barman. We just finished doing a lot of Shopping. Loads of bags. As I'm walking Out This Member of Staff Says to me loudly in Front of Other Customers "Ain't You Got Drinks to Pay for?". I said I've sorted that Earlier with the Barman. The Barman Quickly Corrected her. He was Very Apologetic to Me. No Appology from this Woman member of Staff. Which I Found Wrong and Rude. 2nd. Good. The Barman was and is Brilliant. 10 out of 10. Very Polite and Friendly. A Lady member of Staff. Always Friendly and Polite. Ive Been coming here when I'm in York for a few years. She is Always Polite, Helpful and Friendly. An Abosulute joy. Never Ever Rude. Just a Model member of Staff. 12 out of ten for Her. The Drink Selection is very Good here too. Very Unique. That Woman member of Staff Ruined my Vibe Today. But I will go back there because of Other members of Staff are Very Good there. 1 Bad Apple doesn't Spoil it for me This Time.

Looks small when you enter the front but there's plenty of spaces at the back, beer garden and upstairs. The beer is very nice and my wife loved the rhubarb cider, it serves food as well, staff where very friendly.

A true diamond in the rough. You're welcomed in with open arms, a mix of locals and tourists who just want to relax and have a great time. A perfect way to top off a trip down shambles lane. 🙃

Always come here for a pint when we visit. The upstairs room with the window is perfect to watch the world go by. Nice selection of beer on sale + onion rings are super tasty.

Very unique and classic designed tavern with a large, reasonably priced selection of beers and other drinks. Service was friendly and food was great tasting, with great value for money. A wide variety of seating is available inside and out. Was a shame that the kitchen closed early most nights, how ever it's understandable, due to how quite it was during this time of year. I recommend visiting a lunch to not be disappointed.

We had an excellent experience at Shambles Tavern this Thursday night. We heard Josh Murray (guitar and vocals) in the back seating area, and he was amazing. I’m not just saying that to say that. He was truly very talented. And the back area was perfect for music and hanging out. We’re visiting from the U.S. and there appeared to be a nice mix of local and non-local people there. The staff were very friendly with good drink suggestions. We tried 3 different pints and liked them all.

Lovely old pub situated on the shambles. Large outside seating area. No trip to the famous shambles would be complete without popping in here. Huge amount of difference drinks. I definitely recommend the Rhubarb Cider.

Very friendly and helpful, super clean with sanitiser everywhere which is nice these days! Amazing choice of beers and ciders on draught and in cans and fab live music on a Thursday evening. Lovely covered seating area outside too.
