Enjoyed our stay at the Grand, food and cocktails excellent. Location great also. Having to mark it down as our room felt tired, worn carpet and a few broken tiles in our friends bathroom. Found an old pair of tights on the chair of our bedroom which somehow room service had missed. Spa had water cups everywhere not cleared away. Could only really rate this a 4 star hotel, but 5 star prices.

We stayed at the York Grand as part of a 10 day, 4 city tour of the UK. York and the Grand York hotel were lovely!! It was my favorite hotel of the 4 we stayed at and I felt the price was very affordable for the room. We had two adults and two kids and stayed in the family room. It was amazing, very spacious with huge windows and a very tall ceiling and even a sitting area. Travelling through the UK it was hard to find hotel rooms to fit a family of 4. Unlike in the US where rooms with 2 queen beds are common, this is not the case in the UK. The room we stayed in had a nice comfortable king bed and two small cots for our boys. They even had kid size robes and slippers which they wore the entire stay 😂 I paid for the kids viking experience which included a cute stuffed viking and goody bag. Upon check in the staff was super friendly and very accommodating for kids, keeping them occupied with goodie bags and activities while we signed paperwork. The hotel is also in a perfect location. It's a 5 min walk from the train station and in a safe area close to the Roman walls. Overall York was very walkable which is why we loved it. My only criticism of the hotel was of the doormen. As we arrived after a long journey from the train station with luggage we approached the door and the two doormen just stood and chatted as we struggled to get our luggage up the front steps. Even our 6 and 10 yr olds had their own suitcase and it would have been nice if these two able-bodied adult men had lent a hand. Other than their poor service the rest of the hotel staff was incredibly nice and helpful. I would most definitely stay here again!!

This is a great hotel in York. It is a huge property and is very iconic. The rooms are spacious, and the property has a pool, which is very nice. The restaurant here is also very good. The town of York itself is great for walks as the outskirts of town are quiet and scenic. I definitely recommend visiting here and staying at this property.

We were excited about our trip to York and in particular, anxiously awaiting to experience The Grand. Sadly, other than its location, the hotel was disappointing. I awoke to noise outside the hotel and in the hallway before 6 a.m. We booked two rooms and one of the beds had blood stained sheet. Perhaps the stain was old, but it still left us wondering and a bit uncomfortable. A towel was placed over it for the evening. We went to the desk around 8:00 a.m. and requested two bottles of water and were told they would bring them right up but it never came. Breakfast looked great upon entering however, we waited over 15 minutes to be acknowledged or offered drinks. I requested Tabasco, told it would be right there and it never came. We had another issue with late checkout where there were plenty rooms available but hey woudln’t accommodate a late checkout. I believe several alternative solutions could have been offered and were not. Everything a la carte and it’s a bit overpriced for what it offers. While historically impressive and for the most part clean, there are likely better choices when visiting York. I don’t recommend this hotel, highly overrated in our opinion and not guest focused.

We stayed for one night as we were going to the theatre in the evening and my daughter had an early train the next day so the location was brilliant. The welcome from Wayne at the front door was excellent, Melitsa in housekeeping was very responsive to our requests and Woolann in the spa gave me one of the nicest massage experiences I've ever had! In fact, all the staff were friendly and professional, the beds were very comfortable and the room was spotlessly clean. Late night cocktails in the bar were a real treat and the choices for breakfast were excellent....and all of it delicious! All in all, a truly memorable stay and I wish it could have been for longer!! I would highly reccomend the Grand if you're staying in York.

I can’t praise this hotel or their staff enough! From the moment we arrived Ian, Darren, Freddie were all super helpful and nice. Checkin was easy and we were taken to a sit down area for the checkin process. Our room was in the old section meaning all suites are in the main building and the Classic rooms are in the new wing. The building was built in 1906 for the North Eastern Railway Company and in 2010 was converted to a hotel. The hotel is so quiet you don’t hear anything from the outside. The hallways are wide open, grand staircases, and individual areas to sit in, enjoy a drink or have a meal at The Rise. Even though it is an architecturally older building it has all the modern amenities of amazing AC, elevator, etc. we did not miss a single comfort throughout our stay. Our room was large, phenomenal vaulted ceilings, refrigerator with several non alcoholic beverages and bottled water. The coffee/tea bar had great options and amazing shortbread. Everything in metro York is within walking distance so we definitely made use of our options and could enjoy The Wall, York Minster, the National Railway museum, The Shambles, and amazing pubs and eateries all within 20 minutes of walking. The self park option is quick and easy and barely a 3 minute walk to the hotel entrance.

Our experience at The Grand York was truly a pleasure from start to finish. The booking process was seamless, and the information we received via email in the days leading up to our arrival was exceptional. Upon our arrival, the hotel door staff guided us through the check-in process, took care of our luggage, and even parked our car for us. The receptionist was incredibly informative about the hotel and its services, and our luggage was promptly taken to our suite. We were delighted to find a card and chocolates in our room, wishing us a happy anniversary – a thoughtful and personal touch. We enjoyed a drink at the bar, where the service was impeccable. The breakfast was delicious, and one evening we dined at The Rise restaurant, where the attentive staff took great care of us and the food was outstanding. The check-out process was smooth, and our car was waiting for us at the hotel door. The hardworking hotel team made every effort to ensure that our stay was special and memorable. Staying at The Grand Hotel York was truly a wonderful experience.

Stayed here Sunday to Tuesday over bank holiday weekend. We had booked the Heritage suite however we upgraded as we were disappointed with the room. We paid an extra 180. We had to pay £30 for a cot for our daughter which wad a very poor travel cot that I had to pad out with blankets and sheets as it was like a rock, also had to take the sheet they put on it off and thankfully had my own as the one provided was dangerous and not following safe sleep guidelines. We also had breakfast one morning bringing our total stay to around £840. I'm not sure I'd say it is worth that much money. We did have a situation where we returned to our room to find someone had left a glass on the table at the sofa/tv. We did raise this with reception to be investigated but never heard anything back before we left. The location is amazing only a 2 minute walk from the centre of York and 2 minutes from the train station. The breakfast is lovely but again not worth £50 in my opinion. Overall a lovely hotel but I probably would go somewhere else if we ever return to York.

Weirdly lacks furniture. My executive room has two beds and one comfy chair. It we want to have a coffee in the room someone needs to sit on a bed like a youth hostel. We booked for one night on a special occasion and the staff ensured we had a personalised and special stay. The hotel was very clean and imposing, with a deep history in York. The room was deceptively more modern than expected! We had a corner room with plenty of light from floor to ceiling windows on two sides of the room. Included were some complimentary accoutrements - Yorkshire Tea, Nespresso pods, some brownies and a couple of Harrogate Spa water. All very welcome in the morning! The bathroom had both a bath and a rainfall shower, with a heated floor! Wayne was especially a really attentive concierge and valet, who made our stay seem special. Highly recommend the stay and look forward to staying again in the future!

From the minute we stepped through the wonderful imposing entrance to this hotel we ere treated like Royalty. Nothing was too much trouble. The bedrooms were beautiful with more than a touch of luxury. The beds were large and so comfy. The fridge was a godsend. We were celebrating our sister's birthday and the management left a lovely card and chocolates. Plus she got a free cocktail. The bathroom was a nice size and the underfloor heating was really appreciated. The spa was a calm oasis. The pool and jacuzzi were both wonderful. The whole hotel was absolutely spotless. All the staff, especially the concierge went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. The only downside was the breakfast. At £25 per head we would have expected full table service. However apart from a few special items, it was self service, including the toast. Unfortunately the food was only lukewarm, which was a pity. The continental selection had a plentiful selection though. Thank you so much for making our stay wonderful. We did feel like Royalty.

Everything was good - but value for money wasn’t. 1 hour a day in the spa and you have to pre book. Doesn’t feel like a relaxed luxury if you have to plan your whole day around using it. Breakfast is £25 and excellent but I asked if I could instead just have some of my partners coffee as I wasn’t eating. With a smile they brought me a new pot and charged me handsomely for it. Just feels like there’s no room for value as they squeeze every margin they can.

This was food as an experience - very much high end stuff - presented as art really. We had booked this as a special occasion - enjoyed having the wine pairings with the different courses. The waiters really knew about the food and wines and we could see the chef at the doorway checking on the progress of the courses. The restaurant was quiet - it is not a big place and not all covers were in use. Two people were dining alone - critics?I have seen some poor reviews of this place and don't agree -I would be very happy to eat here again but I can see that it wouldn't be to all tastes. The portions are small, the flavours unusual in some cases and if you like your food served fairly plain this will really NOT suit you.My only criticisms - courses sometimes came too quickly one after the other especially as we wanted to enjoy the different wine and the atmosphere was a bit hushed and reverent.

We were invited to join a relative for afternoon tea recently. Firstly we found that there was no parking available at the hotel. We were disappointed to find that one of our party had not been catered for (coeliac) despite the fact that they had been warned beforehand. He was given some cakes but no sandwiches and was given them to take home afterwards. Not the same thing at all. The ladies' washroom had run out of hand towels and I drew this to the attention of a member of staff. About 15 minutes later another of our party came back from the washroom and complained that there were still no towels. Altogether a disappointing experience and this would not persuade me to stay at this hotel. The service at table was friendly enough but at no time were we offered any more tea. Maybe communications need to be improved here.
