Just returned from an outstanding meal at this lovely bistro. The food was delicious and made from seasonal local produce. The service was exceptional- especially the lovely young guy who was amazing. Lovely personal touches of homemade chocolates and fudge after our meal- really not needed but so yummy! We don’t live locally but those of you who do are very lucky to have this in your doorstep. But we will definitely be back as it’s worth a trip just for another meal here!

We ended up at The Buck Inn completely by chance after failing to get a table at Forest Holidays – and honestly, I’m so glad we did! The food was proper home-cooked comfort at its best. The steak and ale pie was packed with rich, tender meat and wrapped in perfect pastry, while the venison curry was full of flavour with just the right amount of spice. Both were so good we were determined not to leave a single bit – and we didn’t! The staff were lovely, welcoming, and chatty, making us feel right at home. If we’re ever back in Yorkshire, The Buck Inn will be top of our list – next time, on purpose!

Ate here on New year's eve, as we were staying in Pickering Lodges. Even though they were really busy, the food was delicious, and the service was good. The ribs melt in the mouth and such generous portions. Hubby had Gammon and he also loved it. We enjoyed it so much we went back 2 days later. Hubby had steak and I ordered the chicken Katsu Curry, the steak was cooked just how he liked it, but to be honest I was rather disappointed with the size of the chicken steak, but there was a spring roll served with it and lots of rice, so I didn't go hungry. The prices are very reasonable, with a great choice from the bar and some excellent deals on drinks.

WOW!!! 4th visit and excellent as always. Lodge clean and fully equipped. View over the lake is fantastic. We had evening meal in Spencer’s bar and food was delicious and fairly priced. Marie and staff are so friendly and polite. It is no surprise that many guests return on a regular basis. We are already planning our next visit.

Second time visiting the Caffe Stop found in the corner of the car park in Pickering. With a leg injury it was handy to be able to park the car and walk across the car park. Warm welcome from the staff who are really lovely here, friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We both had a cooked breakfast which was great, plentiful and filling. Really enjoy coming here for lunch, it is handy with the car park, food is nicely cooked and presented and the staff are a great. Definitely worth the drive out from Scarborough.

Very nice and cosy pub in the middle of town, great service & very friendly. Quite busy at 5 pm when we called in, lovely to see real fires going on. We didn't have food but no reason to think it wouldn't be fine. We would definitely call back again.

My son Samuel will not go anywhere else, the best sausage rolls in Yorkshire. He opts for the chilli flavoured ones, in fact he's taking 6 home with him today. I've also enjoyed a marvellous full Enish in thete with the own Dan and all of his staff being so courteous. Their cakes and pastries are also first class. A must visit for travellers to Pickering.

Possibly the worst dining experience we have ever had in a pub. We should never have gone in after being warned there was a party of 18 booked, and had we realised how incredibly noisy they were going to be, we would have gone away. I had to take a tablet half an hour before eating, so my husband asked for us to be served in half an hour. The large party's orders were taken and the food delivered long before ours arrived, and they were ordering their desserts; a couple near us who had come in after us were served. I was getting anxious, because if more than an hour goes by without eating, my stomach tablet doesn't work. My husband had to go and ask about our order, because I was getting very anxious and also getting a migraine because of the noisy party, who were constantly yelling to each other. I went to the loo, which was up a step (so not wheelchair friendly, though the entrance is), which were less than clean, and one of the toilets didn't even have a seat. I mean, a new seat isn't exactly dear! There were a lot of signs up abut drugs, so it looks like there is a drug problem. My meal was there when I got back to the table, but it was barely edible. The chicken had been warmed up too long in the microwave and was too hard and overdone to eat, and the cheese was congealed and rubbery. They brought us a free drink to say sorry but we just wanted to get out of there as quick as we could. To add insult to injury, the large party had blocked us in with one of their many vehicles. The interior was dark and dingy and depressing. This was the first time we'd eaten anywhere in Pickering and we wish we hadn't bothered and just eaten in the hotel we were staying in, thankfully not this one.

Stayed at the Beansheaf hotel for 6 nights recently as I was working in the area. The hotel is lovely, the rooms are clean and well maintained and have lots of little touches that you don’t get in big chain hotels. The owners are friendly and can’t do enough for you, nothing is too much trouble. Really pretty views too, loved that if you stood outside on a night you could hear the farm animals!! Would definitely recommend this hotel and hopefully I will find a reason to stay there again. Thank you for a lovely stay

Always a vibrant atmosphere in the wine bar, they've put on some decent new ale revenant an Irish beer Brenda's came into play as the Guinness shortage meant an alternative was sought. The beer was slightly more sweet and chocolaty than Guinness and I preferred it tbh. Then they put on a barrel of .urphys which was also most lovely. Always good music, all sport on TV and its generally the busiest pub being open from 10am to midnight 7 days a week. The bar staff run by Kieran the manager are always polite and courteous and they're dog friendly with pool table, bar football table, 2 dart oards plus interactive darts with offers on drinks promotions to boot. A fun atmosphere for all. Highly recommended.

Called here for coffee and lunch. Waited 5 minutes and were shown to a table. Waitress said she'd bring over the menus. Stood around chatting to her colleagues, Menu never arrived. After 15 minutes we walked out. I don't expect the food to come immediately but I do expect a menu to be delivered within 15 minuts. Goodness knows how long we'd have had to wait for food if we had stayed. Don't even deserve the 1* I've had to give them.
