My family and I have hired The Bothy within The White Swan several times, for large family gatherings. We have always had a great experience, with fantastic customer service and delicious food. Most recently, we used it for an afternoon after my Grandfather's funeral. I was able to book at short notice and it provided the perfect space for a private family get together to celebrate my Grandad (especially as he had spent time in The Bothy himself, during previous gatherings). A special thank you to Simon who dealt with my booking. He promptly responded, ensured all our needs were accommodated and enabled us to have a really memorable time.

First visit to Pickering for a short break with friends staying in The Bothy at the White Swan. Located in the centre of this quaint town this 3* hotel (more like 4*) with its welcoming, friendly staff did not disappoint. The generously sized rooms, (21 and 22) are comfortable, clean and warm with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Fill the large bath tub with the complimentary bath soak or enjoy a hot rainfall shower and let the stresses of the day melt away. Tea, coffee, fresh milk and biscuits are provided and replenished daily. As are cans of fresh water stored in the room's fridge. Breakfast is located in the main dining room and is an opportunity to fill up before you head out for the day. Try the array of cerials, pastries, flapjacks, berries, fruits and yoghurts, or enjoy a delicious cooked full Yorkshire breakfast. The evening meal menu has a mouthwatering array of dishes to suit most dietary requirements at reasonable prices. Our party enjoyed their individual choices of steak, chicken and roasted celeriac. Out and About. There are numerous walks around and from the town. We took the steam train to Goathland (The location of the TV soap Heartbeat and the station featured in the 1st Harry Potter film), then followed a trail to a natural waterfall then onto a wooded walk over moorland before returning to the village and train station back to Pickering. Several passengers continued on beyond Goathland to Whitby about 9 miles further. We have enjoyed our first stay in Pickering and the White Swan provides a super, comfortable base from which to explore more of what North Yorkshire has to offer. We'll come back.

We dined on a Friday evening and found the restaurant well presented and not over crowded. From the limited main courses menu I chose “Charcoal grilled rump steak from Glaves of Brompton, fries, Pickering watercress, roast tomato, green peppercorn sauce” . My wife took “Grilled sea bream, sea salt grilled potatoes, brown shrimps, tenderstem broccoli & salsa verde”. We each had a glass of wine, red & white, with water. The service was very good, the food was good as was the wine. I would be happy to recommend the White Swan dinners to locals and any visitors to this ancient town. The bill was £71.50 which I noted included a 10% gratuity. Reasonable value I thought.

Had a lunchtime meal whilst in pickering my wife had the haddock and chips I had the risotto both very good . Based on this experience we returned on the Saturday at 13.45pm for a meal . We both had the beef burger, initially my wife ordered the fish but unfortunately they had ran out . The meal seem to arrive very quickly the chips appeared pre cooked and were poor. The burgers dense and hard with a very sparse salad disappointed in the whole experience

Lovely pub in Pickering, the best one with great food and wine menu. We had light bites - a delicious cauliflower and blue cheese soup with focaccia, a bowl of smoked almonds and the Whitby potted crab with celeriac remoulade and crispbreads. We also had a slice of blueberry and almond tart with creme fraiche...all delicious. Would definitely go back to try their main meals. The Inn is really nicely decorated, has a lovely garden to sit in too. The staff were really friendly and helpful, would definitely recommend going there if visiting Pickering (we went to 4 pubs and this was by far the nicest).

Stumbled upon the White Swan whilst looking for somewhere to eat in Pickering on a Sunday evening with free EV charging as an added bonus, between a decent sized car park is accessed via the archway . We arrived slightly before they started serving at 6:15pm and had a couple of drinks in the sat in the small bar area. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food service was efficient. The White Swan has accommodation as well providing food and some of the diners were obviously staying. We started with Wild Pigeon and pistachio terrine with chestnut bread, which was a great combination, we then had fish and chips with posh peas, that tasted much better than normal mushy peas and a massive pork chop with bubble and squeak with a mustard sauce. both mains were excellent, we finished with crème brulé and home made chocolate and cornflake flavour ice cream. Overall a slightly unusual menu but very enjoyable and well worth the £75 it cost us including drinks.

Very pricey £19 for haddock and chips . At 19 quid you’d expect a large well cooked tasty piece of fish I’m sure most people would agree? This wasn’t anything special at all - the haddock was quite underwhelming and dwarfed by the thick and quite greasy batter also served skin side up ! Burger was decent, but just average fries. 10% service charge was not explained , but is added onto bill as standard , to decline, you’d have to make a point of doing so which I’d find embarrassing. The level of service didn’t warrant a £4.35 tip as one lady was a bit rude when we advised the salt cellar was empty, she abruptly replied that the salt cellars were filled that very morning. Could we not expect to have our point accepted without the comeback, at this level of expected service charge? Will try other places next time guys.

First time visit to Pickering so looked for a place to have a nice drink before our meal in town, we went to the pub next door first, the large glass windows made it look quite smart but soon as we walked in the door we realised it was Pickerings version of Weatherspoons, we didn’t stay, so that’s how we came to be in the White Swan, and what a contrast, they had a lovely warm fire ( which was much needed as we got drenched walking into town ) and cosy seating. There was a good choice of beers and spirits and service was very good. The bar manager was very engaging with customers and was constantly checking everything was how it should be, I also noticed staff did regular checks on the toilets, which showed as the gents was spotless. We returned for another drink on our second night and would consider staying as a guest on our next visit.

A cheeky Sunday night tipple trying the local provision with Delightful Other Half (doh). Popped in for a nice pint and met some lovely people. Staff very friendly, drinks ok if a little expensive for what they were. Decor very frustrating as at times made me ill. Front snug with tiny spotted wallpaper is no go for anyone that has vertigo. Had to move out as made me feel ill, restaurant similar as the paper is lovely but too much as on ceiling as well. I was not alone as other couple with a dog had to leave as it was making her feel dizzy and sick too. Colours chosen for decor were dubious, tired and poor quality as painted over flock paper and shiny varnish everywhere but patches and paint marks showing. And old building but plastering could be better, if wanting to look rustic not a problem but this looks slapdash DOH cringing as just wants to help with the plastering and painting... (His trade ) so he was sat with tics in the corner. Very scrappy do with 'let me at em, let me at em' to help ha ha Some beautiful old features including light fittings and rugs. The white Swan restaurant is another great place to eat in Pickering. Bigger than the willwgate Bistro but certainly on a par with standard and quality of food. Had lamb my wife had sea bass and we shared a huge sticky toffee pud. All exceptional!...

Very shabby and run down hotel. Would not stay again. The only saving grace were the wonderful staff. Wish someone would buy and refurbish it as could be a gold mine in a stunning village.

The bakery department made me two amazing Tiramisu Roulades today for a bonfire bbq, they were amazing to look at and delicious to taste. Thank you for going above and beyond for a very happy customer

We visited mid week for an evening meal, we received a lovely warm welcome from the staff and shown to our table straightaway. Service was excellent and the food was amazing, especially the Baileys Bread and Butter pudding with vanilla custard! The food is well priced for the quality, we definitely need to visit again before we go home.

Pub with plenty of character. Good choice on menu, Yorkshire sized portions and food of good quality. Staff friendly, welcoming and helpful. One perhaps drawback for some in having to use public pay and display car parks. Convenient though.
