First class Sunday lunch for Mothers Day. Good service excellent food and totally unrushed. Great beef, lamb and pork.Amazing Yorkshire puds and fresh veggies inc cauliflower cheese. Good portions too. My Mum felt properly pampered thank you

We’ve frequented the bar many times over the years , always found d it welcoming with the fire on and the locals ! Always clean and welcoming , ate lunch , limited choice but very nice hot food . Booked an evening meal , they had run out of fish so quickly made a decision on the lamb and the pork , not disappointed ! Will always pop in here while staying or passing through Pickering , wish it was my local !

We found this place last year by chance when the lady in the Black Swan up the road was quite rude - and lucky she was. We returned last week for lunch and drinks, and just as before, the food is excellent, the service is fantastic and the venue is wonderful. Stumbled upon the White Swan whilst looking for somewhere to eat in Pickering on a Sunday evening with free EV charging as an added bonus, between a decent sized car park is accessed via the archway . We arrived slightly before they started serving at 6:15pm and had a couple of drinks in the sat in the small bar area. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food service was efficient. The White Swan has accommodation as well providing food and some of the diners were obviously staying. We started with Wild Pigeon and pistachio terrine with chestnut bread, which was a great combination, we then had fish and chips with posh peas, that tasted much better than normal mushy peas and a massive pork chop with bubble and squeak with a mustard sauce. both mains were excellent, we finished with crème brulé and home made chocolate and cornflake flavour ice cream. Overall a slightly unusual menu but very enjoyable and well worth the £75 it cost us including drinks.

We booked this Hotel restaurant for one of our nights evening meals, opting to reserve a table as very busy and some locations not open some nights. The menu was comprehensive & the food chosen was well cooked & presented by a great team of staff who were attentive without being intrusive. The hotel sits in the Market Square and there is ample on street parking available but check any time restrictions. Overall, great restaurant, with good food selection, well cooked & presented by a great team of staff.

Ordered mains only, of Hake and Sirloin steak. Both good but hake should be served with roast cauliflower but came with broccoli, no explanation when questioned which was the only disappointment. Staff appear to be inexperienced but generally reasonable service. Prices high for Pickering but quality was good. Would recommend if not on a budget and would go back unlike some reviews.

Excellent Sunday lunch, its Yorkshire so mahoosive yorkie. Would recommend booking as it does get busy. Attentive, friendly staff and very dog friendly

Despicable overpriced to say the least drink was the only thing we got excited about it the food is nothing we had wait a long time for our food and there was only 2 tables in. I will not be back!

Very pricey £19 for haddock and chips . At 19 quid you’d expect a large well cooked tasty piece of fish I’m sure most people would agree? This wasn’t anything special at all - the haddock was quite underwhelming and dwarfed by the thick and quite greasy batter also served skin side up ! Burger was decent, but just average fries. 10% service charge was not explained , but is added onto bill as standard , to decline, you’d have to make a point of doing so which I’d find embarrassing. The level of service didn’t warrant a £4.35 tip as one lady was a bit rude when we advised the salt cellar was empty, she abruptly replied that the salt cellars were filled that very morning. Could we not expect to have our point accepted without the comeback, at this level of expected service charge? Will try other places next time guys.

Amazing Sunday dinner on a rainy day, the service and food was amazing, the desert was delicious and we all left very happy

The food was very good (my steak was excellent and perfectly cooked) and the Tuna Loin my wife had was superb. The waitresses were very attentive and made the evening very pleasant.

We went for a family dinner 6 people and the service was dreadful the girl serving front of house the orders and taking payment was so rude and without any care for the service it completely spoilt the experience. We went to the Italian restaurant the previous night and the service was warm caring and exceptional the contrast was staggering - we would never come back! Food was ok nothing to get excited about but do yourself and go elsewhere!

Not good, and very very expensive for what you get, I ordered 1/2 lobster cost £24 I’ve seen bigger prawns it was tasteless and rubbery . The desserts were a rip off at £10 for a small portion.

With many locals in the area closing down there is a limited choice and it would appear that the one’s left standing what to take advantage. The prices are a complete rip off and taking advantage of both 5h3 locals and visitors. I can get a sticky toffee pud on the outskirts of the capital for much less than at this ‘pub’, £9 for a sticky toffee pudding, you can stick it.

First time visit to Pickering so looked for a place to have a nice drink before our meal in town, we went to the pub next door first, the large glass windows made it look quite smart but soon as we walked in the door we realised it was Pickerings version of Weatherspoons, we didn’t stay, so that’s how we came to be in the White Swan, and what a contrast, they had a lovely warm fire ( which was much needed as we got drenched walking into town ) and cosy seating. There was a good choice of beers and spirits and service was very good. The bar manager was very engaging with customers and was constantly checking everything was how it should be, I also noticed staff did regular checks on the toilets, which showed as the gents was spotless. We returned for another drink on our second night and would consider staying as a guest on our next visit.

Just recently stayed here in room 15 which we were pleasantly surprised to find situated in the courtyard to the rear of the pub with it’s own private parking.Attention to detail was paramount in both the room and restaurant where we had dinner and breakfast.The food was superb quality and value for money.The staff were very friendly and helpful and we couldn’t fault anything about our stay .Will definitely return if in the area. A cheeky Sunday night tipple trying the local provision with Delightful Other Half (doh). Popped in for a nice pint and met some lovely people. Staff very friendly, drinks ok if a little expensive for what they were. Decor very frustrating as at times made me ill. Front snug with tiny spotted wallpaper is no go for anyone that has vertigo. Had to move out as made me feel ill, restaurant similar as the paper is lovely but too much as on ceiling as well. I was not alone as other couple with a dog had to leave as it was making her feel dizzy and sick too. Colours chosen for decor were dubious, tired and poor quality as painted over flock paper and shiny varnish everywhere but patches and paint marks showing. And old building but plastering could be better, if wanting to look rustic not a problem but this looks slapdash DOH cringing as just wants to help with the plastering and painting... Arranged a 4 day break away in Pickering for our Wedding Anniversary! We booked the White Swan as we went in December for a Sunday Lunch and enjoyed it very much. When we arrived looking at the menu it was different to the online menu. I nearly walked out as there was nothing I could eat! but decided I would try the Halibert my husband had the Lamb ~ The fish was cooked very well should have come with champ mash and roasted veg, what I got was just mash minus the champ and no roasted veg, my husbands lamb was nicely cooked but there was a very very large carrot that he could not even cut it was so undercooked. Dessert was nice and service good. Our evening was spoilt by the quality of the food at the price should be perfect. Won't be booking again

The White Swan provided a perfect base for our Yorkshire weekend break. Our room was in a converted barn that had a sitting room and upstairs bedroom (number 14 - request it!) that offered space and had every amenity. The addition of a communal lounge with log fire, honesty bar and board games was well thought out. Our evening meal was excellent and breakfast varied and high quality.Staff are polite, friendly and attentive.Highly recommended.

To be fair we only went in here as the Bay Horse chef was on holiday. That aside, we were met very courteously by the waitress and shown to our table. I had a Pheasant curry my wife had Gammon and my in-laws both had the fish & chips. The curry was really good(although I prefer it a bit spicier) The Gammon was great and the fish and chips were great as well. The beer was good so was the wine. I would not hesitate to return. There was a really good range of food as well.

We head here for Sunday lunch at least once a month and the quality of the food and the service is always consistently high. They were particularly on form today with a lovely smoked salmon and beetroot starter and then superbly cooked rib of beef and really good veg to accompany, not to mention the obligatory yorkshire pudding, again cooked to perfection. Has to be the best Sunday roast in Pickering and the beer aint arf bad either!

Booked in for dinner mid week. The staff showed us straight through to our table in a lovely low beamed room. We were given a menu highlighting some amazing dishes and it was truly difficult to choose! I think we all chose differently and apart from a little food envy at each others food, we chose well and enjoyed our meals. The food is well presented, good to look at and even better to eat. The staff were present but not too in your face. All in all, a lovely meal in gorgeous surroundings with great staff. Would visit here again.

I have visited the White Swan in Pickering several times, and the food is always delicious. The dining room is most pleasant to sit in, with traditional decor and a fire. The staff are welcoming and service is prompt and friendly. This is a lovely place to have dinner on a special occasion, or to have a traditional Yorkshire Sunday dinner.

We stayed in the 'Hideaway Treat' room - a two storey cottage complete with super king sized bed, twin showered wet-room and a bath in the lounge! We were royally welcomed and shown to our suite by Rachael, and shown where to park. Dinner was good if not great, but the service was top notch. Breakfast was lovely. The hotel is right in the centre of Pickering is ideally positioned for a ride on the North York Moors Railway.

Called in on the offchance after discovering how awful Scarborough is and we were given a table in the large airy back restaurant. The food was really tasty and well presented, a good vegetarian choice. Service was quick and we would happily go back.

We first came here three years ago and on our return with our two year old son we’re not disappointed. We came on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and were able to put our heads round the door and get a table straight away.

Stumbled across the White Swan on a Sunday evening, searching for somewhere decent to eat in Pickering which seemed to be closed. We were seated at the front lounge because they said that the restaurant was full but we saw no evidence of that, in fact the place felt like a morque. That aside we were seated and ordered our meal, Risotto was bland and Luke warm, my Hake was okay but didnt excite the taste buds, dessert was the highlight, but chocolate with cherry sauce and ice cream is always appreciated. Will not be planning a second visit.

The restaurant of the White Swan is a lovely, quiet old fashioned hotel restaurant, but the food is nothing like the food that you used to get in hotel restaurants. It is beautifully cooked and presented and completely delicious. In fact it was so good that, although not staying at the hotel, my companion and I ate there two nights running.

I well remember going to places like this when I was twenty. To go in is like entering a time warp, but we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience

Staying fairly local we decided to go for a nice meal here knowing it would be pretty good based on the higher pricing than other places around. We both had 3 courses and a cocktail afterwards, everything being of good quantity and quality too. Loved the portion of creme brule and would recommend and hopefully return again soon.

Our B&B; recommended the White Swan - a particular favourite of theirs and for good reason. The staff were friendly and helpful. I had halibut with fresh veg, heritage potatoes and a fantastic butter sauce. My husband had the Yorkshire lamb. We could not fault either dish and neither of us left anything on our plate. Would love to go back next time we are in that area.

We visited here after recommendations from friends who’ve eaten here often and always had a good meal. Unfortunately our food was not quite as good as they’ve obviously had. The roast potatoes were not cooked through, the gravy was a bit watery and although I like my beef pink, this was practically raw. The Yorkshire puddings were amazing though and all the other vegetables were nicely cooked. The restaurant setting is lovely and cosy with lots of atmosphere and the service was good. I think we maybe just caught the chef on an ‘off day’. I was rather disappointed as it is high end price wise for Sunday lunch and think we could’ve got much better for the same money.

This was our first visit to N Yorkshire and the hotel provided the perfect base. Our room was in a newly completed annexe which was spacious and very well appointed. Good car parking almost outside and very peaceful and quiet. The hotel has a small but very frindly bar and plenty of places to relax.The restaurant is also first class.
