A struggling pub , great location but the brewery need to invest . The rooms desperately need updating, the area outside at the back needs urgent attention. Unable to call it a beer garden. The sink in men's toilet in a state of disrepair- the only one in there . It's a real shame. We have a sense of humour and survived our stay . It felt as though the staff did their best to avoid any contact with you. Breakfast order to be written the night before . Breakfast was 8.30 ! No between this time or that time just 8.30. We are still laughing about it now - it was a truly dreadful experience. Don't like to leave negative feedback for anything but in this case necessary. The brewery need to take action . I see on here stories of it being haunted , but think maybe they have checked out also !

I visit the New Inn on a fairly frequent basis, whenever I am in the area. The young couple who run the pub are always friendly and are working very hard to make a go of the business. Last night, prior to sitting down for a delicious meal I decided to use the gents toilets, I was shocked to find that the only wash basin had no bottom to it, this made it impossible to wash my hands. On returning to the bar I mentioned to some of the local/regulars the problem with the wash basin, they informed me that it had been vandalised over a week ago and that the managers had been in constant contact with the pub management company asking to have this replaced due to health and hygiene reasons. It appears that WJS the pub management company don't give a #hit (pardon the pun) I have today been in touch with the local health and hygiene authorities and they will be contacting WJS to get this disgusting problem remedied.

We spent a couple of hours enjoying a few drinks in the sun on Sunday afternoon my husband had been using a receptacle on the table which had already been used by a previous smoker as an ashtray when the manager’s partner came across and very rudely called us filthy for using the small dish a for cigarettes. He and the manager had walked past a couple of times and had said hello but made no reference to getting a proper ashtray and when we said this we were told we could see it wasn’t… we had no idea as this was already full of tab ends and ash but they continued to say we were dirty people we couldn’t believe the way they were speaking to us I have reported them both to Heineken brewery who I believe own the pub! I was very upset by the way they spoke to us just abusive with no polite offer to explain or to exchange the dish for a proper ashtray! I notice that there are several reviews here about rudeness and attitude please be warned as there are much friendlier pubs in this pretty village!

Average food, but questionable service. Had to search for a menu, then order at the bar. Table number meant nothing to the barman who asked us to point out the table. Waiting staff appeared to be two schoolboys. When food was delivered we asked waiter for mayonnaise; he pointed, and said "Over there". Had to get up and find a sachet. Also difficulty in providing one salt pot. Pepper came in paper sachets.

We booked for 2 nights in a "superior double room", however we felt for the money this was far from being superior. No TV in room, cobwebs in bathroom. Will say the bed was clean and comfortable. We were told when we arrived that there was no food available so we ate elsewhere. Breakfast was nice but milk was in a carton that the guests shared around the room, just felt it was not very professional. Tables not laid, had to help ourselves to cutlery etc. Such a shame as village is so pretty and the pub is in a prime spot but really needs more attention to detail to do it any real justice.

Rooms were very dated need a good clean and dust ,could do with a luck of paint. The bar service was okay, food just pub grub curry was pataks sauce with chicken in the chicken had not been sealed so cant have been made from scratch, nann bread tasteless, breakfast was between 8 and 9 we were told, not cooked by a chef i think as the same two staff from the night before were on breakfasts ,the girl serving had no idea how to take orders we asked for full English breakfast which took 50 minutes and was a poor standard, you were given cups no saucers which weren't very clean with coffee, obviously trying to save on washing up. The appearance of wearing a hoodie and beanie hat to serve was not very professional, she had the same clothes on the night before. 😳 Things like knives and forks not filled this was first thing for breakfast clearly had not been touched since the night before, no serviettes. They only have 6 rooms so thats only 12 for breakfast they struggled massively, others complained on the service. Dont be fooled by the food review pictures this was clearly another chef. Run by 3 people need more staff. Location good.

Thornton Le Dale is a beautiful village. You can also visit Bangers & Cash museum and shop. However we stayed at the New Inn and we were so so disappointed. The place is filthy, the paint and plaster wete falling off our bathroom wall. There were cobwebs and dust everywhere. Breakfast was yo say the least eough and ready. A milk carton just put on a table with cereal and jams. No fresh orange just orange drink with plastic cups. Breakfast was supposed to be 8till 9am. On both mornings we went down at 8 and no sign of anyone. When we arrived to check in, didn't know at the time but they asked for my bank card. This I assumed was for a tab for meals and drinks. No they immediately took payment for the time we were staying. I now know why, we would have turned round and walked out and looked for somewhere. Having spoken to other guests staying there who's opinion was very similar to ours and were also very disappointed. We certainly won't be staying at the New Inn again, and we wouldn't recommend it.

I never usually make reviews but I can’t hold my tongue. The food was clearly microwaved. My boyfriend ordered a pulled pork burger, it arrived but with no burger and was told the menu is wrong, they did knock off 10% but it was £16 for a skinny little ‘burger’ with just pulled pork and a few chips! My dad got food poisoning from the steak and was laid up all the next day. By far the worst place I’ve ever been to. A fantastic historic inn in a beautiful location. The wonky rooms modestly made up but unfortunately looking a little dated. The breakfast was good but we were told to be up for 8am as he was in a rush for Sunday lunch which would have been good to know on arrival. But then there was no one to be seen when we got down for the requested time. As we arrived for our breakfast on the first morning we just sat where we wanted as no tables were set we there was no cereal or fruit or juice we were asked if we wanted a bacon sandwich sausage sandwich or a full English with tea or coffee. A pot of tea was brought to us 20 minutes before our plates of food with a knife and fork slapped on the table no serviette’s and we were told he had ran out of mushrooms. On the second morning we went nt down for breakfast the door was locked but there was a plate on the reception desk with a half eaten kebab on it obviously we didn’t stay packed up and left what a shame used to be a great place to stay.

This used to be our favourite lunch spot until everything changed earlier this year. After a poor experience a few months back we gave up. However the latest reviews looked promising so we dropped in for lunch today. What a difference, lovely warm fire in a clean bar, clean tables, great service from the guy behind the bar and great beer. The menu is much smaller than before but there were a few specials on the board . My seafood platter was huge and absolutely delicious. Hubby had the corned beef pie on the specials and he really enjoyed it. Prices are very reasonable too. We were hoping they would be putting on a Christmas menu through December but apparently not. I hope they reconsider as the pub was always packed for their Christmas lunches. Let’s hope the new team remain and the pub can go back to a well kept traditional village pub.

We have been using this pub for years and have always had a fantastic experience, however today was terrible. We had reserved a table, so we waited to be seated, a member of staff walked passed us several times, and totally ignored us, so we sat ourselves down, after 20mins, still no sign of any waitress, we had to eventually ask! We were not given menus or told it was just Sunday lunches, the communication was terrible, when our food arrived, the plates were that full of gravy the waiter dropped some down one of our friends back as he passed it over, he was totally oblivious to even doing it. The food was nice, but not as good as previous visits, we went to pay and because we were 3 families we wanted to spilt the bill, this was not possible, so one of us paid and we had to bank transfer him the money, which was ridiculous. I love this pub and brought 2 other family’s with us today, I was raving about how good it was but feel really embarrassed & disappointed with our visit!

I agree 100% with Brookfield63, for the first time in 8 months the New Inn have a landlord and landlady who are a credit to themselves. Andy and Laura are so hard working they deserve every success. The food looks fantastic, the beer is spot on and the place is slowly get cleaned after 8 months of neglect. Since March 23 this pub has been operating under a sub lease from Star Inns (Heineken) been sublet to a pub company (WJS) who in turn install managers, so 3 businesses trying to take revenue from one country pub. This has been a disaster for our village, we are on our 5th management team since March and we all hope the middle men WJS just disappear, they are the problem in the equation and continue to be so. However The current management team of Andy and Laura are doing a magnificent job. The pub is now clean, the food menu has been brilliantly refreshed with some magnificent seafood specials and they have recruited a very good team. In short Andy and Laura have massively turned this business around and is back to what it was, a wonderful local. Last night, lovely log fire, bar packed with locals (first time since March!) and a wonderful atmosphere. Quite rightly this establishment has had some very well deserved horrendous reviews since March. (WJS hold your heads in shame and leave our village as soon as possible, horrible and unworkable business model) However Andy and Laura are doing a magnificent job, the place is brilliant and anyone looking at previous reviews should ignore them and return to this now reinvigorated pub! Do not take allergy or dietary requirements seriously. Served meat and dairy cheese twice before giving correct meal, a long time after the rest of the party. Cannot reccomend any less.

Very shabby and run down hotel. Would not stay again. The only saving grace were the wonderful staff. Wish someone would buy and refurbish it as could be a gold mine in a stunning village.

We visited mid week for an evening meal, we received a lovely warm welcome from the staff and shown to our table straightaway. Service was excellent and the food was amazing, especially the Baileys Bread and Butter pudding with vanilla custard! The food is well priced for the quality, we definitely need to visit again before we go home.

Pub with plenty of character. Good choice on menu, Yorkshire sized portions and food of good quality. Staff friendly, welcoming and helpful. One perhaps drawback for some in having to use public pay and display car parks. Convenient though.
