Called in for lunch as a spur of the moment thing while out house hunting with a mate. Good decision. The food was sublime & (in my opinion) charged at a fair price. I had the black pudding starter followed by chicken & leek pie. Again good choice as both were absolutely delicious. Lots of parking to the rear added ease to our unregistered visit. I would highly recommend giving yourself a treat if you're in the area.

Fantastic hotel in a quintennial Yorkshire village The Worsely Arms Hotel has to be the best hotel I’ve stayed in for many years. Spotlessly clean and well-equipped rooms. The food (both dinner and breakfast) was excellent. The staff are truly wonderful, so much local knowledge and with exceptional customer care. Zack and the breakfast team, as well as the dinner service, were 2nd to none. A great choice of local beers, and local Slingby Gin(Marmalade was my favourite) all behind the bar. A great choice of single malt whiskeys as well. A lovely lounge with coal fires made the whole lounge area warm and homely. And dog-friendly too – with nice walks around the village. Some confusion about my booking on the booking website (not the hotels) – but the manager Tony was able to sort it all out. A really lovely Easter weekend.

We booked an early lunch on Mothering Sunday having been tempted by the menu posted on Facebook. Two courses £26, three for £32. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived but almost full by the time we left. The layout is most attractive and we appreciated the linen tablecloth and napkins which are now sadly lacking in many venues. Service was very efficient and friendly. Food was absolutely delicious, my husband enjoyed 3 courses including an excellent traditional Sunday roast pork with Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings. My two courses were perfectly cooked and presented. I nearly chose the vegetarian option which sounded good but opted for the hake instead. Portions were generous but not over-facing. We’ll definitely be back!

The service was excellent the staff work really hard. We ate dinner and breakfast both of them we great hot and well cooked. The bar had a good selection of drinks. The only let down was the room . Room 10 tierd and dirty. The Place is full of dust and grime. Our shower did not work. I went down to the reception at 7.30 am the hotel was in complete darkness. I rang Bell a few times eventually the man on reception arrived. I told him he said that he would check the boiler. That was working fine. He said that the shower should be working so he came to try. As I told him it was cold water. He the went away then returned with a key for another room to use that shower. Would not recommend this hotel.

Met friends who were staying there, for dinner. Had drinks in the bar before going for dinner. Friends had asked before we arrived about the lamb and were told they had 3 meals left.Which we would of had. However they only had 1 left when we came to order. Woul d if been nice to be given the option to reserve..Ordered food, had the whitebait which was good. Two of us had the fish and chips. We both felt the batter left a lot to be desired not crispy, soft and stretchy. Fish didn't flake, were tempted to send back.however we ate it and were both ill during the night. The plates were removed as each person finished which put pressure on those still eating. We had a drink in the bar after, and were the only ones there. Staff kept appearing to see if we were finished they wanted to go home.it was only 9.20 when we left. Would not go back just didn't hit the requirements for a good evening.

The staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. The pudding list had amazing choice and tasted wonderful too. We had coffee - then tea in the gardens- spent a total of 6 hours there- we had a lot to catch up on but never felt rushed which we appreciated greatly-beautiful surroundings and again excellent service. Would highly recommend - it’s going to be ‘our place’ to meet up again for sure !!!

Laughably bad. We went for a soup and sandwich lunch. We were shown into the bar where we were able to look at the menu and order a coffee and two soups and one sandwich. The coffee arrived within a reasonable time but the soup of the day and sandwich must have taken half an hour. The soup arrived in cold bowls and was barely warm. We sent it back, incurring another delay. The soup was returned warm after ten minutes but without an apology. The staff looked miserable. There was no request for our opinions and no concession on the bill to reflect the woeful service. The place is shabby but not chic. Don’t go.

Worst bed (king size) that I've tried to sleep in Poor decor No WiFi due to router failure, resetting was offered but never came Shower in room 22 should be condemned as it only has dangerously hot temperature Windows to the front of the building don't close whilst window at the rear don't lock Breakfast was meagre, though well cooked Only met two staff during the stay dealing with reception, bar, putting up bunting and in the morning serving and coordinating breakfast. My Wife & I visited The Worsley Arms Hotel for the wedding reception of a friend on Good Friday and thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of our experience there. Right from the moment we arrived, we were made to feel extremely welcome by attentive and friendly staff who couldn't do enough for you. We were greeted with a drink and shown down to the Marquee a short while later. The hotel is quaint and in keeping with it's beautiful surroundings. The staff were probably the highlight of the visit. They knew my wife was due to be served a vegetarian meal and made her aware when it was ready for her at the buffet. She described the Vegetarian 'Sausage' Roll as one of the best things she ever eaten - usually she let's me try a bit but I didn't get offered so that's testament to how good it must have been. I really enjoyed the pulled pork rolls with Stuffing, Apple Sauce and Coleslaw. The bread was soft and freshly baked and although served as a buffet, the meat was tender and full of taste. It wasn't your typical wedding reception food which can often get a bad rep. There was also pork pie which was quality as well. There was plenty of meat however when the pie started to dwindle, staff took it upon themselves to come around and offer it out. The little bottle bar setup in the Marquee saved folks from going back into the hotel and nothing was too much trouble, they quickly retrieved something if it wasn't immediately available. I'm always keen to sample local pints and ales so I went into the hotel bar and the barman in there was knowledgeable about the beers, brewery's and also just great craic too. We would thoroughly recommend this place to potential visitors and although well off main routes, we could see ourselves taking the time to return if in the area. Thanks to all the fantastic staff for an enjoyable and friendly evening.

I have just returned home having had an unwelcome experience at The Worsley Arms Hotel. I think the waitress who served us (perhaps she is the owner or his wife!) really doesn't want this job.We only came in for a coffee and a scone. Which, by the way, was delicious! But my point is that a friendly welcoming smile goes a long way. I can hardly believe the 5 star ratings they have received recently. Maybe they don't want passing trade for coffees only. Hotels and restaurants need to remember that people vote with their feet and pass on experiences to others. When I read the last review I thought "Yes, someone who appreciates good manners too!" We sat at our table and were greeted by a brick wall of a person. It did make us laugh in a way but we will not be back to the Worsley Arms. A smile and friendly manner costs nothing.

Called at the Worsley Arms Hotel for a drink at the weekend having had it recommended to us and were so disappointed.Having eventually found some to serve us drinks, although using his computer seemed far more interesting, we went and sat on the upper terrace as the few tables in the garden were occupied. As there was no signal I asked the waitress for the wifi code. An abrupt "its on the table" was the response. I went back and checked our table as well as the other vacant one next to us, but nothing was there. When I went back in and explained this, I was told "it should be". The waitress then stomped out the door and down to another table in the garden that was occupied, removed the card and then banged it down on our table with a "there" and she stomped off again. We had been considering booking for dinner, but after such rude and unfriendly staff we drank up and left and certainly won't be going back!

We clicked the link to accept Tony’s invitation to the first Worsley Arms virtual wine tasting, settled down with the selected wines and glasses arranged in front of us. Six weeks into lockdown and we were looking forward to an evening doing something completely different. The wines all had a back story and took us through France, Spain, Portugal. We were encouraged to share our thoughts about the wines: the colour, the nose, the palate, in whatever way we chose to describe them. We learnt about single varietals, the impact of vine disease, the emergence of the new world fruities, blending and how this is done and the different rates at which some grape varieties flourish, how the Portuguese wine industry has changed. A few glasses in and the questions flowed: how do you choose a good blended wine when the grape varieties aren’t listed on the bottle? How much would you pay? At what stage in the process do you blend a wine? What is the percentage mix of each grape variety? So how do you bring escapism in lockdown? We found a relaxed evening with plenty of good humour arranged by Master Sommelier, Tony Finn was just the ticket.

This is a lovely little hotel located in a pleasant village. The service within the hotel is "exceptional" illustrated by the fact that the manager on overhearing a conversation enquiring about TV coverage of a golf tournament quietly set-up a television in the Garden Room in order that we could watch the conclusion, an attention to detail which I admire. We were even offered dinner in this room on a table they would have been pleased to set-up.The food is also excellent with a flexible approach to ensure dinners are happy. Nice country bar, on the small side but has a warm atmosphere. The hotel has cottage rooms about 100 yards from the main building which were not to our liking. However as we were only staying for two nights we "went-with-it"! The double bed seemed to be on the small side but perhaps it was the fact that it gathered to the middle made it appear that way. When we checked out I mentioned our concerns to the owner on the basis that if he was unaware of the issue he could not put it right. To be fair he said we should have brought it to his attention sooner, perhaps so, but it was only two nights.I would gladly go back to this hotel to stay in one of the "hotel rooms" as I am sure my assessment would be higher than "average".

Stayed here for 2 nights with our dogs. As we had dogs we were in a cottage over the road from the main hotel. The hotel has 20 rooms 12 in the hotel and 8 over the road. Dogs are welcome in the hotel and there are plenty bits to sit with your dogs. We had our first nights meal in the hotel and it was very nice if a little pricey for us. Likewise I don't drink so feel a little bit robbed at the price of soda waters. I get that folk need to make a living at the same time. Breakfast was really nice in fact a work of art but I soon destroyed it. It looked a bit lost on the big plates again just my opinion. My wife didn't fancy a full cooked breakfast asking for sausage and egg. We thought she may have got 2 sausages and perhaps 2 eggs. Nope 1 sausage and 1 egg and again it looked a bit lost on the big plates. The hotel is an old hotel and dog friendly but is in need of some tlc in places. All that aside we really have enjoyed our little escape and would be happy to return again in the future.

We enjoyed sitting by the fire in The Cricket Bar to select our evening meals. The attention to detail was good, excellent wine choices and the food very good if sometimes over complicated. Regards Gary Saunders

Stayed here for two nights, it was a groupon deal so We where not expecting too much, the room was a small room a bit dingy, needs some improvement, and not as clean as I would have liked, not so bad that I would not stay in it, the bed was clean, I think there where better rooms, The staff where very nice and friendly, quite cosy, very busy the first night, had dinner, chose the wrong meals so was a bit disappointed our own fault, There was nowhere to sit so we went out after dinner, second night we where able to have a drink in the bar as it was a bit quieter, did not eat there though, breakfast was very nice both days, all in all a good place to stay, Inwould have been upset if I had paid full price for my room though.

The smoked salmon and prawn starter was a taste bud treat really set the meal off well. Followed by my usual steak and ale pie with mash and a golf ball of spinach it was superb if a bit of a struggle to finish (to nice to leave any) Then into the bar for a coffee whih came in a huge pot for three of us and a pint of ale for the none offee drinker. Quick pleasant service and we were asked to let them know if we had any problems with the meal. rather than "is everything alright" every five minutes

We visited for a Sunday Lunch which was easily one of the best we've ever had. Both the beef and pork were delicious as was everything else. The service however was left lacking... once we were seated not once were we asked of we'd like another drink or if our food was OK. Such basic things being ignored!

Booked a first Sunday lunch here in the restaurant. Had previously called in for bar meals and have never been disappointed with the quality of the food served. Our Sunday lunch was excellent with good quality locally produced food presented in a first class manner. The service was also of a high standard so much so we booked a further Sunday lunch there in September when we return to the area to spend a week in a holiday cottage.

We gave up heading for the coast for fish and chips on the last Saturday of July after an hour doing one mile on the A64 and found the loveliest fish and chips at this delightful place in a pretty village. We got a warm greeting from the bar man who offered us food and drink and showed us to a table. He was friendly and attentive throughout. The sought for fish and chips were superb with gin and tonic batter, fresh Whitby cod, home cut chips and peas with samphire and prosciutto. The desserts were elegant, seasonal and beautifully presented. The rest of the menu looked incredible and we have vowed to come back and stay overnight so that we can enjoy dinner and breakfast as well.

I visited with two friends for lunch and the food was wonderful. It's great to see a lot of locally sourced food on the menu. The staff are very accommodating and attentive, nothing is too much trouble. We had the halibut on the specials which was beautiful and the dessert, champagne sorbet with mixed berries and elderflower jelly, was gorgeous, highly recommend it. This is the perfect place for a lunch with friends or an evening of fine dining for a special occasion.

The hotel is quite charming due to its good location and old world ambience but it could do with a bit of a makeover. The evening we stayed was hot wet and muggy and the windows would not stay open so we had to jam them with various bits and pieces. Due to old plumbing the shower temperature was hard to control and the old plastic shower curtain was one of those that insist on clinging to you whenever you moved. The food however was really very good. We both loved it. The steak I had was one of the best I have tasted. It is worth staying, or at least, eating here just for the steaks.

A bad experience. We were offered two main courses in our budget, shepherds pie and fish pie. Shepherds pie turned out to be made with beef mince(cottage pie chef) and the fish pie contained very little fish, The staff hovered over us while we were eating and we felt they wanted to rush us out. Not an enjoyable experience.

Lunch midweek for 21 people, choice of main course fish pie or shepherds pie (made with beef) starter or dessert £12.50. Made you feel a nuisance staff hovering about all the time. We ordered custard to go with dessert before we arrived you would have thought we had asked for the moon and when it did arrive it was so thin. I could go on but it would take to long. Certainly would not recommend them to any one apparently they arrange wedding breakfasts!!!

This meal booking was made with a Travelzoo voucher so, in one sense, we weren't expecting too much. In the event, we got a much better meal than we anticipated - starters of duck terrine and foie gras and a main of salmon with shellfish were individual dishes, full of taste and freshly prepared. This was quite definitely not the fish & chips or steak and ale pies so beloved of pub food, quite a cut above. The Dining Room is a bit old style but, like the meal, had more than a bit of quality to back it up.We'd have no hesitation coming back for a full meal.

Having had a lovely day at the seaside we were undecided where to eat before going home we chanced upon the Worsley Arms and can truly say we arrived as strangers and left as friends Ann and Pieter were wonderful hosts. We decided to "go casual" in the Cricketers room which was like fine dining so I am intrigued to know what the restaurant will be like when we return. The food as someone else has already stated is like something worthy of Masterchef it's locally sourced and every dish is a masterpiece. If you don't have anything else have a dessert here we had apple tart tatin with green apple ice cream and berries in elderflower jelly with champagne sober and GOLD leaf even the salad was a work of art can't wait to return here it's a beautiful place to eat with the nicest staff

Ended up here by accident and was absolutly delighted with the opportunity to sample some quite excellent cooking. The specials menu was especially good with the lamb burger and charred asparagus being the favourites. Hospitality and service was excellent and you get the feeling that every guest matters which in my experience is a rare commodity these days! A please surprise in comparison to the busyness of the more poplar establishments within ten miles radius.

This our second visit to the Worsley Arms Hotel. The first time was for Sunday Lunch and so we knew the quality of beef was exceptional so we were quietly excited The choice of breed and cut is quite daunting but after talking to Tony I opted for the Longhorn Fillet. I don't usually choose fillet as I find it a bit tasteless but Tony assured me it has quite a strong flavour and wouldn't require a sauce. My partner opted for a Dexter Sirloin. We had Chips onion rings and I indulged with some fois gras. The steaks were fantastic (we ate them very slowly so we could make them last) As were the mushrooms and tomatoes very strong on the garlic but neither of us mindedWe finished off with a pud in the bar over a second bottle of wine. Again pud was exceptionalWe also got to chat to Andrew the chef and found out we have mutual friend. Good to meet you Andrew we will see you you againIf you are in the area book a table its lovely with lovely people who obviously passionate about what they do Mervyn

Stopped here for a couple of nights while working in the area. We were met with a warm welcome. Our room was light, bright and perfectly adequate, we booked a standard double room. The manager was thoughtful and kind, offering help and advice for most of the stay, thank you. Personally I found the bed very uncomfortable. But otherwise the room and bathroom were well appointed up a large flight of stairs.Breakfast was fantastic. Homemade Greek yoghurt was delicious. The cooked breakfast is freshly cooked to order and hot and very tasty. Coffee was fab too.We didn't dine properly at the restuarant. The menu is very, very meat orientated, fine if you like that, but the veggie choice was limited and disappointing. What we ate was delicious. We would have dined here both nights if there had been a better choice of vegetarian food. I appreciate that veggies are in the minority, but it's not that unusual or difficult. I wasn't feeling well, which didn't help, so there was very little I could eat or wanted to eat. Shame. The presentation of the food was excellent, Michelin Star quality, but the 'V' word seems to be an issue.

We spent two nights in this wonderful hotel last week (thurs-sat) and would certainly recommend it and will be coming back as the location is ideal for touring the area. The hotel is in a gorgeous quaint village and worth a walk around especially after eating the generous portions of food served in the Worsley Arms! Breakfast was very good and we ate in hotel both evenings and the food was excellent.Service in the hotel was very friendly & helpful from all staff and Tony (owner) always had time for a chat and was helpful with knowledge of the area. The lady that waited on breakfast & dinner was also very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for her and as i was suffering with a very sore throat she even offered to get a hot toddy made for me with honey & whiskey! The hotel had a friendly atmosphere throughout as the lounges with the settees and open fires seemed to relax everyone and as for the lovely fire in the bar area-well it was too cozy & warm to leave so a nightcap whiskey was enjoyed. The room was spotlessly clean and the bed most comfy, yes the rooms are 'oldy worldy' but that is only to be expected in an old Inn- tv, radio, tea & coffee supplies in the room so it was all very relaxing. Also the rooms were nice and warm to arrive back to after a day out in the very bracing Yorkshire weather. The whole two day break was most enjoyable and thanks to The Worsley Arms for making it so - Well done Tony & Staff ps we even had the wonderful experience of seeing The Flying Scotsman chugging along on its journey to York.

We have visited the hotel on many occasions for afternoon tea and sandwiches whilst touring The Dales every year and have always said how lovely it is. My husband booked us in for Sunday lunch as a treat and we travelled over 80 miles for our 1pm booking. We arrived at 12.45 and ordered drinks at the bar and were asked whether we had a voucher (we hadn't). We were given menus and then waited until 1.35 for a waiter to take our order, this seemed odd as 5 other couples arrived after us and waited only a couple of minutes to be shown to their tables after receiving a glass of sparkling wine each. It wasn't really an issue as we were happy to sit and relax in front of the open fire. When shown through the to the restaurant our starters of melon an prawn arrived immediately, both were very tasty. The main course was served by a lovely young man (with dark hair). My husband thoroughly enjoyed his venison sausage stew and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. I had ordered the pork loin with crackling, apple sauce, garlic roast potatoes and stuffing. As the waitress was taking our plates away she asked whether everything was OK. Without a fuss, I explained that my dish had no crackling, a piece of stuffing the size of a thumb nail and the pork was not loin but 3 large pieces of belly pork (mostly fat) which I had left. I was very polite and didn't expect anything to be done but just wanted to let her know why I had left such a lot on my plate. The waitress appeared put out by my comments and insisted that it was loin (it absolutely wasn't) as she had "seen a picture" but she did apologise for the lack of crackling. I didn't want to spoil our visit by arguing so said no more. We were going to stay for desert and coffee but, because we felt uncomfortable, decide to just pay the bill. The waitress returned with the bill which she placed on our table without speaking or looking at us. We paid in full. I have noted that the manager has suggested that others who have given negative comments on this site should have given him the opportunity to put it right at the restaurant before leaving. Given this experience, i would disagree.
