Too overpriced. The kids meal was so small and they got the wrong order 😑. The service wasn’t bad but I had to wait 40 minutes for a cheese sandwich. There weren’t enough vegetarian options either. People that were seated after got their order first, while we were hungry. 2 stars is me being generous.

Husband and I have just been to the cafe for lunch. It was such a bad experience. Ordered 1 Bacon bun , 1 Rarebreed sausage bun a portion of Skin on Fries and 2 teas which cost us £23. 90... I asked the waitress what rarebreed sausages they were her answer was "there just normal ones". When the food arrived the skin on Fries were normal fries no skin on them questioned them and I was told they were right. They had to be returned as they were cold did replace. The sausages had been sliced in half to be refried, the bun I couldn't eat as it was dripping in fat and the sausages were cold. The Bacon bun not too bad just burnt Bacon.. Never again !!!...

We have visited The Balloon Tree many times on our way to and from our holidays in Sandsend. We felt it was a special part of our break. Sadly, the most recent visit may be our last. We arrived in the hope to order breakfast on the morning of 28th December. We queued for approx 10 minutes to be greeted by a very flustered host who was extremely stern when we asked if we could still order breakfast. Her reply was a rather rude..you're only just in time. Then a young lady took our order for drinks and breakfast but after about 20 mins still no drinks. We received them after asking their whereabouts. After another 35 minutes still no breakfast!!! We asked yet AGAIN and then about 5 mins later the breakfast arrived. The food and the plates were cold and to be perfectly honest it was inedible. My husband's full English breakfast looked burnt and my vegetarian breakfast had items missing. When we informed the "host" about it her reply was..What ??? It's all cold ??? Do you want it warming up ? By then my husband had lost both his appetite and patience and we asked if we could pay for the drinks and be on our way. Whilst the cashier was very apologetic and polite and professional and did not charge us for the drinks we would have hoped that her pleasant manner would extend to all the staff. The food is generally excellent although we have seen a decline in both service and food over the past year. I was hoping things would improve in the Farmshop but unfortunately not. There wasn't a large amount of gifts or fresh produce to choose from. It basically looked like there was a closing down sale on. Whilst I normally buy all my holiday gifts for my family and friends and lots of lovely fresh food for us, I came away with a jar of pickles and a couple of pies. Although there was an extremely helpful and pleasant young man who assisted me with a smile and excellent manners. He is a credit to your company. I do hope things will improve in the future as The Balloon Tree is a little gem.

The polite girl pointed that other had given the same feedback and the chef didn't won't to alter the dish . I won't rush back when they don't want to listen to feedback. Obviously making to much money. Christmas dinner now £17.99. deans is better value and when you give feed back to improve menu they listen.

It’s difficult to write this review, as I’ve always enjoyed the Ballon Tree for lunch on the way to the coast and would normally recommend it. But sadly I feel it’s not what it was. I had the soup and half a sandwich in brown bread. It’s a very small bowl of soup (which was delicious). But the sandwich was really poor. Imagine the smallest thinnest slice of supermarket bread, with a slice of cheddar that was so thin you couldn’t taste it. Surely they could do better than this. They used to.

Got ourselves a wheelbarrow and onto the field for picking some pumpkins. It's october and an open field, so wellies are recommended. Our daughter had lots of fun walking up and down and choosing the right pumpkins. We changed our shoes back and managed to have a seat in the cafe right before the big wave of guests started arriving. Lovely morning overall, our daughter loved it as well. It has a lovely veg shop with a really good choice of veggies, salads and fruit so I ended up stocking up for when I got home. It also sells quiches, pies, coleslaw etc, cheeses, bread, biscuits, gifts and much more. There is a really nice cafe that I have since been back to visit and can vouch for the food which was excellent. They also do a Sunday roast, which I bet is delicious. They also have plants, pots, etc, and do strawberry/berries picking and at the moment, it's pick your own pumpkin 🎃. Some lovely gifts for Haloween too. It's well worth a ride out if you don't live locally, like myself, as it's set in beautiful countryside.

We visited here as a stop off on our journey to North Yorkshire, we visited previously a number of years ago and did not have a great experience but it’s always looks busy so we thought we would try again. We really wish we hadn’t, the place was nice and it was busy, we arrived to be told they had stopped doing breakfast at 11.30 and the don’t serve lunch until 12 noon, I asked if we could order before noon as we had an appointment, the answer was a stern no. Once we looked at the menu we noticed that it said lunch was served from 11.45, anyway a different waitress came over to take our drinks order and we asked if we could order the food and she said she would send someone else over, we ordered the quiche of the specials board and the half sandwich & soup combo. I couldn’t eat the soup it was so bland, I tried to liven it up a little with salt & pepper but it just didn’t taste of anything, and my half beef sandwich was not presented well at all, the beef was nice but only half a slice of wafer thin beef, being a farm based eatery you would think it would have been more filling than that, it’s usually more of a hearty offering at farm shops & cafes. I was wishing I had chosen the quiche but my friend also said that was very bland too! Hers was much better presented with a side salad and coleslaw but again no dressing on the salad and the coleslaw was not great quality and again tasteless. We also got a portion of chips and onion rings and to be fair these tasted nice. I wish we had read some reviews before stopping here as it looks like it has gone downhill lately. It’s a shame as we pass this place a lot and if it was better we would visit more often. I really can’t work out why it’s so popular, maybe it’s just convenient for people. Must say most of the staff were nice especially Kez who was a breath of fresh air. Toilets were clean too.

What can I say? Regular to some extent as at least twice a year as it’s my wife’s favourite place. Starting with strawberry raspberry picking, end of season for strawberries but managed to find enough, raspberries plenty and were great. Expensive when adding the £1.50 each person surcharges. However we understand this and it’s about the experience and family time. Cafe. What a disappointment. Expensive and not that great. Ordered 2 quiche meals, really disappointed, hardly any salad and poor quality coleslaw. Kids meals ok. 2 ciders 2 soft drinks and 2 cappuccino with 3 desserts. £70 light in my pocket. I would say balloon tree are living off their reputation now and I for one will only pop back for the odd cake and coffee ( which the be fair was delicious). Just not worth the money anymore and that’s an absolute shame as this was a go to place for us for a treat. Why oh why don’t they offer ploughman’s lunch? They sell gorgeous pies in the store and we’ve had this many times and was superb. Sorry balloon tree, you have one less (semi) regular.

Eventually stopped one of the staff to enquire what was happening. He came back 5min later to inform us "the bacon has just gone in so wait another 2 or 3 min and if it's not there then speak to him again". Finally walked out after no food arrived and told a staff member why, she said "the kitchen was struggling to keep up". Pitifully service will never go again.

We took a sporadic trip to The Balloon Tree for a bite to eat and to take advantage of a pick your own. A place the other half has been to a couple of times whereas this was my first time. Upon entry the car park was relatively full, with not many spaces left but that wasn’t a problem, just means busy! First stop, the cafe. With the choice to sit indoor or outdoor, we elected out. A nice day for it. Plenty of area for the 3 year old to run about in, with slides, climbing frames and more. Upon seating however, a family of ants were crawling all over the table. Not ideal. Photo attached shows one after I swept the others away. The staff, servicing on tablets, were on hand to take orders, and were respectful about allergens/ intolerances, with their own “safe” menu too. A bit dissatisfied though that they cook all chips/ potatoes in soy oil, meaning our child had to go for sweet potato fries, cooked in an air fryer? Me and the missus ordered pork & beef hot baguettes. The actual meat and stuffing in there was lovely, especially the apple sauce, but there was only 2 roast potatoes (one of mine was half black) and a very small amount of gravy in a separate pot. The crackling however was amazing, should’ve been more!! All priced well, portion sizes could be much better. I also got a pot of three cheese cauliflower cheese, which was STONE COLD and somewhat tasteless. After lunch we went to do the Pick Your Own (PYO). £1.50 per person, plus the weight of your punnet(s) of fruit picked… next to no strawberries, raspberries or anything left/ ready… to the point we walked away with 4 strawberries and 3 raspberry’s, costing just over £6 total. Miles cheaper to go to a shop…

What we had waited all this time for was terrible the roast beef dinner was mainly inedible hard and grissly beef with cold veg and dried up roast potatoes. Yuk. The soup and beef sandwich was a joke for £9.75 it consisted of a tiny bowl of cold mushroom soup which i had to send back to be reheated as for the beef sandwich i think they had cut the small ammount of beef on it with a razor blade. Nice venue, farm shop, and food area. Busy at lunch time, Friday, had to queue for 20 mins to be seated indoors but lots of staff so food didn’t take too long. ‘Expensive’ £32 lunch was tea for two, a cold, home cooked beef sandwich on dry tasteless white bread, bowl of soup with half a ham sandwich on dry tasteless brown bread, with a portion of poor scrappy chips with two rice crispy buns for afters. Why do these places charge £2.50 for a small portion of poor scrappy chips when potatoes must be the cheapest item on menu for them to buy wholesale? THROW THE SCRAPPY BITS AWAY!! Just saying 🤷‍♂️

Read good reviews so went along hoping for a nice morning out. The fruit picking was signposted and there was a wee cupboard with tubs to collect before getting to the fruit. I was really disappointed that most of the fruit was bruised and mouldy. It was also pretty expensive, over £7 per kilo of strawberries plus £1.50 per person to pyo fruit. Feeling put off we went to the cafe. We were seated at a table for 4 straight away. The lady who took our order got it wrong. 2 adults and 2 children at the table and she put through 3 kids meals, 3 lattes, one juice and cakes even though I pointed out each thing on the menu. Another waitress corrected this so our bill was accurate. The kids had scampi and chips, each plate had 6 pieces of scampi and some handcut chips with peas. The cakes were nice too but the coffee wasn't overly hot but that's more preference. The toilets were nice and clean but the sinks are really high up with no step so not accessible for little ones. We were done within an hour but had anticipated spending a lot longer here.

Can't drive past the Balloon Tree. Great farm shop with some great quality produce. Lots of other goods to to tempt the pallette. There's a nice restaurant there too, makes a super coffee and snack stop. The grandson loves playing in the play area with the excavator. Looking forward to taking him along when the pick your own goodies are ready.

Very popular place. Called in on our way to Filey. Lovely setting , great choice of food. Friendly staff -( could do with explaining they come to take the orders as a few people weren't sure, us included.) The food is very good quality and very nice. Definitely recommended. All on one level for wheelchair users 👍😊

Entry fee of £1.50 per person for PYO, outrageous, though delicious the strawberries are expensive in the first place and to pay for small children makes them extortionate
