Called here for coffee and lunch. Waited 5 minutes and were shown to a table. Waitress said she'd bring over the menus. Stood around chatting to her colleagues, Menu never arrived. After 15 minutes we walked out. I don't expect the food to come immediately but I do expect a menu to be delivered within 15 minuts. Goodness knows how long we'd have had to wait for food if we had stayed. Don't even deserve the 1* I've had to give them.

Lovely building situated just near the train station with a large yard to the front and a courtyard indoors. Two little gift shops are situated within, with a fairly normal array of gifts to browse. It's no longer a tea rooms, just a gift shop.

Beckside Tea Room--We thought this tea room looked nice from the outside and saw lots of specials on the board, so we went in and this is when the con started. We were a party of four and on the board it said Bacon or sausage sandwich with tea for £3.50 so we duly ordered at the counter--(no service-you have to order at the counter--even though only two other ladies present) i sausage and one bacon with two teas, but asked if i could have earl gray tea (earl gray on menu 15 p more than ordinary tea) but was charged £9.50. I said no, i ordered specials at £3.50 x 2 so price should be £7.00. The very officious women behind counter said we charge more for earl gray, to which i said £2.50 is not 15 p extra as per menu. She then was very aggressive and said specials on the board have special tea, so that is the price and you have to pay extra for earl grey. My friends then said from the table just pay and we will eat sandwiches and leave. Our sandwiches duly arrived and we were appalled--sandwiches were not sandwiches, but very small finger buns with a very small burnt piece of bacon or one cheap sausage cut in half--again a con as not a sandwich. So nobody use this place as it is the worst cafe in north Yorkshire

First impressions very clean, friendly staff, cosy atmosphere. Nice cuppa & latte. Toast could have stayed under grill a little longer but plenty of butter & jam with it. A little more expensive than other places, but pleasant.

I visited with friends in September 2015. The cafe is tucked in a nice building with a tourist style shop beside it. There is a nice seating area at the front a single table in the foyer and then more seating inside. We ordered a light lunch and drinks which took over 45 minutes to arrive and consisted of low quality food with a tourist price tag. I was disappointed to say the least, albeit the portions were a reasonable size and the coffee was average. The cakes were better but one (black cherry and almond bakewell) was stale. On the whole I can't help but feel that we paid too much and waited too long. I would suggest looking elsewhere.

What tasty food they have here! I had a cheese and bacon potato melt with a side salad and it was LOVELY! The service was very friendly and quick. This is the best tearooms Iv'e ever been to and they do the best deluxe hot chocolate with marshmallows. The Ploughman's lunch looked lovely too and very tasty.

I had a very tasty ham sandwich, and my wife a cream tea, which she highly recommends.

We turned up right on closing time, gagging for a drink and needing a sit down with 2 boys, one 4 year old and one 9 months. Seeing our disappointment, we were invited in for a hot drink and cold snack. We had 4 delicious cream teas for the grown ups and fizzy water and chocolate cake for the 4 year old. Everything was just right! We were made to feel very welcome and didn't feel at all rushed despite our late arrival and taking our time to savour the food. All in all, highly recommended!

This was a chance visit when we met up with my daughter and her family in Pickering. We needed somewhere to seat six of us and the staff at Beckside were only too happy to move tables around for us. All of the food was gorgeous and the cakes were particularly good. The portions were large and I can hardly believe what some wrote about a bakewell tart. There was no sign of anything like this on our visit. We will definitely be back. Excellent!

Four of us visited this tearoom recently whilst on holiday in Pickering. The tearoom is attached to a gift shop which is worth a look around. The tearoom itself is very small but we went when it was quiet so this did not affect our dining experience. Several of the party ordered a hot chocolate which came with a chocolate finger on the side,I thought this was a lovely touch. The jacket potato with cheese and bacon came with homemade coleslaw and a salad which was all really tasty, and very good value for money! The lady who served us was very friendly and made us feel welcome. I would not hesitate to come back here if visiting pickering again in the future.

I visited the tea room and gift shop on 11.11.2014. The gift shop was nice and quirky. The item I bought was also a good price. The staff in the tea room were very polite and the food was nice. All the group ate (sandwiches and jacket potatoes) for around £5 per person which was good value for a tea room. I would definately recomend this place.

A very friendly welcome in this small, but charming café, near the station in Pickering. I had a home-made fruit scone, with jam and cream and a pot of delicious, hot tea. My husband had a lovely ham and mustard sandwich, which he announced to be yummy as well. The staff were friendly, helpful and provided good, prompt service. The prices were good value. We shall certainly return there if we visit Pickering in the future.

We went there for lunch. We ended up sitting outside the door.We ordered sandwiches and a bakewell tart, planning to share the tart. After some time, the tea and the bakewell tart arrived. It was very small, clearly out of a packet of six that you can buy in the supermarket. They charged £1.35 for this, probably more than the packet of six cost. The sandwiches arrived much later and were not up to much and again were not cheap. Will not be going back here, suggest you don't either.
