A group of 17 stayed here for 3 nights and had an excellent time. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable with a plentiful hostess tray. The food was delicious, home cooked and plentiful. Being a group, we had pre-ordered our evening meals. Plates and food were hot. The staff were friendly, obliging and nothing was too much trouble for them. We will certainly revisit this hotel and I’ve already recommended it to friends.

We stayed for 1 night at the Beansheaf, what can I say it was great, nothing was to much trouble. We arrived early the room was ready so left our bags there took a trip over the moors to Whitby had some lovely fish and chips, got back to the hotel, they asked if we wanted dinner explained we had eaten already . We went to the lounge later and was told if we just wanted a snack we could just order Starters, which the four of us did, I would have no hesitation to recommend the Beansheaf to anybody.

Don’t usually write reviews but thought this was deserving! We stayed here one night after a day trip to Flamingo Land (it’s only a couple of minutes down the road). The staff were lovely especially to our two children who are 4 and 2, the hotel was spotless and the food in the restaurant was delicious. Will defo be visiting again next time we go to Flamingo Land! Thank you!

This place is quite a gem. It’s set back a bit from the road so you could easily miss it. The owners and staff are very pleasant & friendly, and they’re keen to make sure their customers are happy. The food is good & there is a nice selection of meals on offer. Room 1 was very comfortable. We highly recommend this hotel, and we will definitely be back , hopefully sooner rather than later.

This place is a little gem. Not the prettiest hotel in the world but the roadside facade belies its qualities which are many. Immaculately clean, well presented and overall a very comfortable place to ‘rest your head’ when visiting this beautiful location. The welcome is friendly, the staff (owners and operators) make you feel at home and the food is good and the value even better.

Very safe with Covid one way system, met at the entrance and sanitiser available, staff with face masks etc. Full table service. The steak pie was very nice but I was a little disappointed as the meat inside was a bit dry and had no gravy (I'm a Southern Softy and like my gravy inside a pie to keep the chips crisp) the chips were amazing flavour hand cut and cooked to perfection, my friends Duck breast looked fab. I enjoyed the meal and would certainly visit again. We must support eating out and keep local places open :)

Booked into their restaurant twice in one week while staying at Flamingo Land. There are plenty of spaces to park and the restaurant is clean and modern. They have a lovely range on the menu and then a specials board. The food was delicious. Lots of classic dishes to choose from and a yummy dessert collection. Well worth a visit. The staff were fantastic and very helpful.

Stayed one night on business trip. Hotel is unpretentious, decor and furnishings a little plain, but it is good value. My room was upgraded - I paid for a single with shower but was given a double with bathroom, clean and spacious with a comfortable bed.The staff are very friendly and helpful. Evening food offer is standard pub favourites with a couple of specials, reasonably priced - I had a nice meal, well presented, and a good cooked breakfast. Only small drawback is that it's on a busy through road, and my room had single glazing - this made the road noise a bit intrusive even with the windows shut. I always carry earplugs though, and i had a good nights sleep. More than happy to visit again.

Great friendly staff and owners all very welcoming. Comfortable beds slept well. My only negative comments are it's a bit tired in need of redecorating and a double check on room cleanliness before guests arrive would be good (our bath looked like a gorilla had had a shave in it).

A nicely appointed room with lovely bedding, towels, tea/coffee with biscuits and bottles of water. Everything was spotless. Food was piping hot and very fresh both at dinner and breakfast. OK it was a quiet Wednesday night and we were the only ones in the restaurant so the atmosphere was not great but that can't be helped. Although we had booked - the only ones that night - the booking seemed to have got lost. We felt rushed when we were keen to take some time given we were celebrating our 37th wedding anniversary. The menu was not the same as seen on the web site - significantly different. The waiting staff were distant and did not engage at all making us feel more like we were getting in the way rather than being paying guests. All that said the food was really good and excellent value for money. We may have just had a bit of bad luck on the day but we will not be rushing back.

We stayed here when I was working away with a team, I was worried about the hotel they'd booked whether it was going to be horrible, but I was pleasantly surprised. Greeted by a lovely lady on the desk, with her son who wanted to help show us to our rooms which was very sweet, felt very family run. The rooms were cosy, nice lighting and decor. The rooms were well cleaned and had no problems with the cleanliness, we stayed for two nights and a cleaner must have come in the morning and spruced the place up nicely. Good powerful shower and nice to get complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits etc. although no decaf. The room was worn in places, could do with some renovation, but all round good room for the price. We had a breakfast included, it was the standard quality, good choices for breakfast too. Did not eat here as we got back too late but there are some good pubs not far from the hotel.

The setting was welcoming, the food was excellent and well priced and the service was good except right at the end when (a pet hate of mine ) we had to go hunting for the bill, only to be told that we should pay at the bar, which was not obvious to us. We recently visited Whitby and i booked into a disaster of a hotel (through Booking.com) called 'DISCOVERY ACCOMMODATION' i foolishly gave them my debit card as down payment and they took the money directly from my account even though we were 3 months away from actually taking the holiday. When we finally went to partake of the holiday it was an absolute disaster, nowhere to park, after being promised a special parking space, and then the Customer service from the people once we arrived was terrible. We were that appalled at the Discovery accommodation we were eventually asked to stay at, that we decided to give up and go home!!!.We ended up finding this little Hotel called the Beansheaf Hotel - the food was excellent, the place was clean and the people were very nice, so we ended up paying to stay for the 2 nights in this hotel instead. Thanks Andy & Jo and special thanks to Colin and the Team at the BeansheafWe will be back for more good food.Neil and Elaine Buryxxx

There was an iron and trouser press towels tea and coffee making facilities. Free WiFi. There was a lovely large bed dressing table bed was very comfortable. There was a welcome folder with details like local hairdressers dentist doctor also taxi services. Also a menu and prices and a book of the area which was a great help. Mind you one or 2 of the taxi numbers weren't up to date. But no big deal. Got changed and went to reception to ring a taxi return from flamingoland about 15.00 which was OK. Waited in the bar area didn't buy any drinks as taxi was due but lovely bar area and restraunt were the man happily chatted to us wishing us a great night.Your room key also unlocks the front door so your not stuck to a return at a certain time.Flamingoland entertainment was great scouting for girls was on and got tipsey lol.Taxi company rang us to say the taxi would be delayed by 30 mins as there had been a accident somebody had been knocked over near by. Which was a nice touch.Went for breakie in morn was seated and told to help ourselves to breakfast area were fresh juice fruit cereals. We were brought our tea and ordered a cooked breakie very nice I thought there was a decent about of food cooked to perfection they even asked how I'd like my egg. Sorry for this less than positive review. Unfortunately I'm going to have to disagree with previous reviews. The hotel is right next to a main road and a very busy one at that. Closing the curtains didn't reduce the noise as others suggested. The room looked fine but it had a funny smell. There was a cobweb on the corner of the ceiling and a flattened dead spider about 2 foot away squashed on the ceiling. The skirting boards have coffee stains on ad the bathroom towel rail was held together with a toe wrap. The shower was acceptable but nothing special and the toilet seat had seen better days. All in all a bit of a let down. The reception staff member was really helpful and the tea and coffee facilities were excellent. But as we'd stayed in a fantastic hotel in Harrogate the night before which was amazing and 10% cheaper we felt a little let down. I think they must have a male cleaner who probably changed the sheets and towels and did nothing else. Note to manager: clean the rooms properly, fill in the cracks in the walls, sort out the bathrooms and install triple glazing, then the money you charge will be acceptable!!!!!

When we left to go home at 8 there had only been 4 other dinner's in so I think that statement of being busy must have been tongue in cheek, which I though was funny. Lovely staff and great food. In short, one of the nicest hotel rooms I've stayed in. The decor is wonderful, I have a nervous/skitty disposition and so (as mad as it sounds) to find our room was tucked away upstairs and was painted and decorated in calming tones of pale apple green and creams was very welcomed (most other hotel rooms I have had elsewhere before have been bright reds, stark whites and deep blues) and honestly, I do believe little things like that make all the difference for a pleasant and peaceful stay.My only little "but..." was breakfast the next morning. My partner and I ordered the Full English each, and for £7.50 we were a little surprised. Very minimal, now I might here mention that we ordered "without bacon", and we were served a spoon of beans, a spoon of scrambled egg, 3 mushroom halves, a teaspoon of squashed tomatoes and a singular sausage. Don't get me wrong, the quality was pretty good, and for £4.50 it would have been spot on... but for £7.50 it's a serious rip off.Other than that, it was absolutely lovely. And for the rooms, I would stay again.

I had the sausages, they were lovely - the mustard mash and gravy gorgeous and a good quantity of carrots, peas and cabbage.Enjoyed the meal, and would definitely go back.

We took my mother in law here for Sunday lunch as it was a place she had fond memories of in the past. Unfortunately it didn't live up to her memories. The dining room is a soulless and charmless room, with tired decoration and furniture. We were servedat the bar by who I think was possibly the manager( on the basis that he was the only member of staff who didn't look scruffy). He was clearly distracted and just getting drinks proved difficult as he simply wasn't listening or interested. We were shown to our table which had a dishcloth left on it but the 'manager' didn't remove it. The sunday lunch is carvery only and is only £8.95 but even that is overpriced for the quality. My pork was inedible due to it being so dried out. The veg were also overcooked. When the 'manager' came to clear our plates he didn't ask if everything had been ok, despite seeing the pork left on mine and my son's plates. I told him that I had been unable to eat the pork as it was so dried out. He totally ignored me, picked up the plates and walked away, muttering something under his breath. His rudeness was quite amazing. A female waitress came and asked if we wanted dessert, but we asked for the bill. When she returned my meal had been taken offthe bill, but there was no apology or comment made. This is certainly not a 'destination' restaurant, nor somewhere to linger over a nice meal, more of a pit stop. Most people in there were in and out very quickly, seemingly having stopped en route somewhere. Definitely wouldn't go again due to quality of the food plus the dreadful attitude of one member of staff.

Stuck in Sunday traffic which held us up nicely just out side this restaurant, and as feeling peckish, decided to randomly call in for lunch! The big board outside the pub advertised the Sunday carvery at £8.95, but were pleasantly surprised to find out once seated at our table we could have a smaller plate at £4.95 and therefore exercise some healthy portion control! Service was quick and friendly, the carvery offered, beef, pork or chicken, with self service vegetables and accompaniments. Our bill came to just over £20 for a family of four including soft drinks... how can you go wrong for that? My only suggestion would be, advertise the smaller portions at £4.95 on the road side as well, I think you will get more walk in trade,

We stopped here en route to Whitby after being stuck in the bank holiday traffic, it was around 7.30pm and wondered if we were too late for food. However, luckily they were still serving. We ordered the homemade rustic bread, which was very fresh and flavoursome, followed by the salmon on crushed potatoes, duck breast, spaghetti bolognese and steak pie. The dishes were served piping hot and presented nicely, so I don't think we could put it in the category of pub food. The only negative regarding the mains is we found the steak pie a little too salty, however, none of us normally cook with salt, so perhaps this would be the reason why.We have the chocolate mint bomb for dessert and the choccy wokey do dah, which was like a frozen rocky road. An enjoyable meal and we couldn't fault the service from the staff nor the bill amount.

On heading back to base we stumbled upon the BeanSheaf with which we decided to give it a try ... and boy am i glad we did. We were greeted at reception and told to head on through to the dinnig area. On ordering drinks we headed through to the carvery area. Great variety greeted us .... Roasts of Beef , Pork , Turkey ... fantastic home made yorkshire puds .... perfectly cooked veg and a gravy to die for. All four plates were demolished and decided to try the puds ... a great selection ... of which we tried the white and dark chocolate cheescake , Chocolate fudge cake and Bannoffee Pie. each of these was superb and tried by all at the table with forks being passed round the table. the dining room was clean , well lit and very hospitable. the staff welcoming and very friendly ..... this is one restaurant we will definitely be visiting on our return.

Whilst at the Pickering War Weekend we needed a place to eat on the Saturday and called in hoping they could accommodate us which they did with a cheerful welcome. The menu is beautifully straight forward and obviously all their own with no bought in dishes you get on some huge choice menus. It all looked good but we chose a Rogan Josh and Hunters chicken, both were delicious and the portions generous, we did not have time for a desert but we were so impressed that the next night we returned with 6 friends to make a party of 8 and they were all as pleased and impressed as we had been, without exception we all enjoyed our meals. In addition to the good food the warm smiling welcome has to be mentioned, good humour costs nothing but helped to make our second visit in particular most enjoyable. The Hotel has obviously recently been refurbished and is very smart indeed with a comfortable bar area as well as the smart adjoining restaurant. Two of our friends were very local and had not realised that the Beantree had undergone its transformation and were suitably impressed. If you are the area or passing on the A64 just 5 minutes away the Beantree is well worth stopping for. One last thing 1 starter, 8 main courses, 6 deserts, 1 Irish coffee and a plain coffee £104 the lot. Brilliant

Food quality and presentation was fantastic. Portion sizes were also fantastic. We are definitely going to be eating here again. We were all very pleasantly surprised by how lovely everything was and haven't had a better meal in a long time! The staff were also fantastic and very friendly. Our friends who were actually staying in the hotel described the room as being clean, tidy and very accommodating. They were very happy with their visit after traveling 150 miles to get here. Can't wait for our next visit when we will be popping in for food!

A great place to stay with friendly engaging staff, food was outstanding both breakfast and evening. If there was a downside to our room it was on the front next to the road but this didn't spoil our stay. The room was spacious clean with a huge bath. The bar area was comfortable and relaxing. Well worth the money.

Called in for an early evening meal on the way to Thornton Dale on 23rd April 2014. We had Hunters chicken and Salmon with orange scented potatoes. At first, we were told that they had run out of orange scented potatoes, but "found some" which we suspect were just waved over orange juice (but we may be being unfair!) Both the meals were adequate but quite ordinary, and the rest of the menu was just as exciting. Staff were very pleasant and helpful, but it is not the sort of place where we will rush back.

Stayed here for the first time about 7 years ago and loved the room and cosy lounge/ bar with welcome fireplace so thought we would stay again. This time to celebrate valentines day. Knew as soon as we got to our room that the ownership must have changed as it wasn't quite as polished (room wise) as how we remembered it. Looked a bit like it needed a touch of modernising but still very clean, lovely big bed and couldn't hear any traffic even tho the hotel is right next to a main road. Very quiet when we arrived so nobody on reception straight away but it was only a couple of mins till a nice gentleman came out and showed us to our room. Corridors, lighting, pictures all very nice and looked recently decorated. Nice room with shower (no bath) overlooking the car park to one side and wasteland to the back of the hotel. (Not sure what they could do with that) Also a great spot to view the wild rabbits running about. Went down for dinner, and have to say it was fabulous! Really nice gentleman serving at the bar, lovely waitress who was very friendly, and the chef worked her magic! We had soup, two mains, drinks but couldn't possibly fit a dessert in! Couldn't fault it. Boiling hot, and very delicious. Lounge is cosy and very quiet so not for those wanting music and a lively atmosphere.you can take a short taxi ride out for that. Option to dine in the restaurant also.unfortunately after some family circumstances changed we had to leave the hotel five six hours after we had checked in so didn't get to sleep in the room. Paid for the room and they checked us out very quickly. Overall I would definately go again but this time to dine rather than stay.

After failing to get a table at one of the most popular pubs in the area we spotted this hotel restaurant on the way back to our holiday cottage and with some trepidation went into the hotels dining area. The decor was a little old fashioned but the welcome and service we received encouraged us to book a table. What a pleasent surprise! My husband is vegetarian and and had several meals to chose from, my teenage son is fussy but he was very happy with his lasagne and I ordered a steak which was so tender, that really a steak knife really was not needed! All at very reasonable prices. Our host (not sure whether he was the manager or owner) was attentive and friendly. We'd certainly eat there again if we return to that area. Note: the restaurant sction of this hotel used to be called The Blackboard Inn

We have eaten at the Beansheaf at the end of day trips but this time used the restaurant while we were holidaying at Flamingo Land. The service is friendly, food of an excellent standard and pretty reasonable given the quality of food and location on offer. I had the home-made steak & ale pie and it was one of the nicest meals I have had in a while. we will definitely be back.

We booked this hotel last minute on a return journey and wasn't disappointed. I think we had expected a country inn type hotel but this wasn't the case. It's very much like a motel but with a much better class of dining experience. The room was a good size, clean, modern with a very nice shower room. The bar served a nice pint of ale and the food (we both went for the steak) was beautiful and well cooked. If you stay you must have breakfast, cooked fresh and plenty of choice.Overall the friendly welcome and service triumphed

My family have been having Sunday lunch at the Beansheaf for several years now. The food was good but the decor was in need of some refreshment.Recently the place has been re-decorated, with new chairs and has new carpets throughout. Sunday lunch is better than ever with very generous portions of meats and at least six or seven vegetables plus both mashed and roast potatoes. The staff, led by the personable Norman, are all friendly and helpful and very welcoming.

The carvery has been recommended to me on several occaisons and at last I was passing with the time and need for lunch so two of us called in. Having eaten here often but some years ago under different management the current team have maintained a great standard for an honest lunch with plenty of meat and veg combinations, or a portion of all they have to offer. The place seems clean, chearfull and warm with crisp white tablecloths and a nice welcome. I'll have to put it on my regular list. The only fault I saw was the leather chairs have become very fingermarked and grubby with use, a stark contrast to their setting.

As you approach this place on the A169 there are large signs saying "Restaurant" and "Open all day". So, as it was about 2.30 pm when we approached it on a Sunday afternoon we took the signs at their word and pulled into the car park. On entering the restaurant all the tables were empty. The manager (if that's who it was) said hello, and we enquired if we could get a meal. He said "Sorry no, not now". When I enquired the meaning of the sign on the roadside he said "It means we are open all day". I said there's not much point in being open if there's no food, and we drove on to Thornton Dale we had an excellent meal at "The Hall" (at 3 pm).

This is a lovely place but let down by how chaotic it was . I got two scones and two coffees took the scones to our table and was told the drinks would be brought across, The scones were hard ( certainly not fresh ) I had trouble biting mine I had to cut it up to eat it , it was dry , I also noticed someone took a scone back I heard the girl say it must of got mixed up with the fresh ones , ours must have been last weeks ,It was 15 minutes before we got our drinks I noticed several tables hadn't got theres either , people were going to the counter to complain by this time . Just needs a bit more organising, who wants to eat a scone without a drink !!!..on the other hand we will go again to try the Gardeners lunch which looked delicious
