Buck Inn in Ryedale

Went for two course Sunday lunch and it was absolutely divine ! Lovely staff and fantastic food, the ham and cheese croquettes to start are so tasty I’m now googling to find a recipe to make them for Xmas starter The beef dinner was superb the beef and pork so tender and really cooked well We really enjoyed it Thanks buck inn

Friendly staff, decent food, a typical Yorkshire pub which had a warm and comfortable atmosphere with a nice variety of selection on their menus. If we’re back in the area, we shall return! The only reason that I have not given this a five star is because I didn’t feel that the staff or food exceeded expectations, yet, on the whole, a good meal here.

What a lovely pub. Situated in a lovely village, the pub has some great food (I recommend the kids’ Pasta as one member of our party ordered seconds!) and drinks. Thank you for such a delicious meal. We will be back!

Came in here for lunch, a lovely welcome for the bar ladies and had a nice cosy seat. A great specials boards and plenty of option, however we both kept it simple with a battered fish goujons butty. If I’m not mistaken a high portion of their menu is home made, and it shows some of the food that was coming out had us in complete food envy, the pie dish looked insanely good! Our fish butty was spot on, lovely bread, great portion and a lovely little salad. Next time we are in the area we will be coming for tea!

From the outside, The Buck Inn looked warm and inviting and as we entered the main bar area we weren't disappointed. A roaring log fire added to the already warm, friendly ambience. We were greeted with a smile at the bar and shown to our table. It was a Friday night and very busy so we were glad we had reserved. Drinks selection was good with a couple of decent local ales on tap. I had the Viking blonde ale which was excellent. The menu wasn't massive which I prefer, quality over quantity! I went for the black pudding and Stilton starter followed by the pork belly and mash. My wife had the soup, which was pea and spinach, followed by fish and chips. We both give our meals 10 out of 10. Service was quick and unobtrusive. The cost for the meal (not including drinks) was a touch under £50 which is excellent value considering the quality of the food. Overall a wonderful evening, great hosts and exceptional food.

Excellent pub brilliant team Guinness 5star we had food which was well priced and excellent quality keep up the excellent work so nice for a one off not these dreadful chains (sorry for that worked for whitbread premier inn 39 years ) we will be Back , kind regards Peter and Barbara and of course pebbles the sausage dog x

Didn’t book but that was not an issue for the friendly staff who greeted us with a smile and found a table. The food choice was excellent as was the food, waitress helpful regarding content of dishes and all delivered to the table with more smiles. Reasonably priced and a nice atmosphere is the restaurant with a busy bar too, obviously a popular destination. Totally recommend, our second visit and it didn’t disappoint.

A great find .... randomly chosen from Google maps it's tucked away a hundred yards off the main A170, a couple of miles outside Pickering. A big plus is that they serve food until 15:00 lunchtime, unlike most other pubs these days, that only serve until 14:00 ... Parking was easy (unlike in Pickering itself) an the staff were very welcoming.... Food and service were excellent ... perfect fish and chips and very reasonably priced. A great find and we'll definitely be dropping in again on our travels.

Visited this pub for an evening meal tonight with family , we had a warm welcome and the food was excellent . The pork belly was beautiful and my hubby and daughter had the steak and ale pie and the chicken dish , the children had the spaghetti Bolognese and Mac and cheese and they loved it ! The starters were beautiful and the deserts were to die for . Not forgetting the new Zealand sauvignon that went down a treat 😉 The locals were really friendly and we will definately visit again when we are in the area . We were holidaying in the area and called in here to grab some food and it didn’t disappoint what a delightful place the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. As for the food the steak and ale pie is stuffed with meat and comes with tasty gravy and vegetables chips or mash is was lush as was my daughter’s fish pie and my wife’s pan fried sea trout, top result on the fish pie as sometimes this dish can be dry. Well done to the staff and the kitchen workers I highly recommend this pub and it’s dog friendly

Visited here this time last year cause we was local for a car show so we've returned again for the same show. Food was lovely again same as last year. Recommend the belly pork which was the best I've ever tasted. I used to go to Jamie Olivers restaurant a lot and have it there but tonight beat that. Staff amazing. Hopefully will return again next year

The service is fantastic, cannot fault it! But unfortunately for me the food let it down completely. Came for my husband’s 40th birthday, first thing I need to say is the portions for kids are so small I would recommend feeding them before you come! The Mac and cheese (granted they did swap the salad for chips) they got 3 chips! Yes 3! I asked and the woman said it was because it was meant to be a salad but the kids fish and chips (which were meant to come with chips) had only 5 chips! The lady said we don’t know how big the kids are, mine are only 6, 6 and 8 but unless the kid is about 3-4 years old they will still be hungry! I had to make them food when I got home 20 minutes later because they were all still really hungry, definitely not worth £8 each! Most restaurants cater for kids to be 12 or under My husband had the lasagne and said it was alright just abit bland, I had the chicken wrapped in bacon and garlic sauce, it was meant to be chicken breast but came on a bone and didn’t taste like the breast more like I was eating the leg, and ended up spitting half of it out! Had I knew it was on the bone I would have ordered something else! Also mentioned seasoned vegetables, it came with green beans and nothing else! I asked and she said it says green beans (it doesn’t it said seasoned vegetables I rechecked to be sure) My daughters came with a mixed very nice looking portion of veggies! Just this meal was not what was advertised, typically green beans is the only veg I didn’t like, after speaking to the manager she did apologise and knock it off the bill which was kind of her I just don’t think it’s somewhere I would be in a rush to return too. They did kindly bring out a cake I brought in earlier which surprised my husband but like I said the staff did couldn’t fault

Found this online. Saw good reviews and were not disappointed when we went. The welcome was typical warm Yorkshire and we were given a choice of table, being a Thursday night it was not fully booked. The waiter brought the menus and took drink order quickly. Black pudding with garlic mushroom came with stilton cheese. When asked if it could be done without the cheese the waiter immediately enquired and said yes it could. That along with fresh made smoked mackerel pate made delicious starters. Followed this with chicken breast, stuffed with mozzarella and sun dried tomatoes, and creamy garlic sauce and pan fried cod loin with crab and chive sauce both served with fresh vegetables and potatoes of choice. Pineapple and ginger sticky toffee with ice cream and raspberry treacle tart with caramel sauce and ice cream realty finished the meal off nicely. Food was really well presented, hot and served very attentively by the waiter. If you don't go here you are missing a gem of a meal and inn with a really good homely atmosphere. A 5 rating does not do it justice. Well done Chris and the team from a very happy couple of diners.

This is a cracking pub. Ales from local breweries were superb and a fair price at £4.10 a pint. Served by someone who knows how to pull a proper pint. And the food isn’t typical pub food either. Slightly more expensive but really worth it. Chicken in bacon and steak pies were absolutely cracking. Pork belly was enjoyed by two friends who raves about it. Very friendly place too. Thanks to bar staff and locals. We are always off walking dogs on holiday and end up trying a new pub at the end. So in know there are actually a few really nice pubs in this area and I wish I could thank them all but the Buck Inn was our favourite.

Four of us went for lunch.Great drinks and excellent menu choice .Food was excellent and the service was great . The ambiance of the pub is lovely and next time we are in the area we will definitely return .

We were passing and my partner googled the buck inn, in Wrelton, seemed to have good reviews and photos looked nice, so we stopped for dinner. Wrong, overall the pub is tired and needs some injection of style. The food ordered was OK, except the chicken breast had thigh bone in it. I've included a photo of the description of the ordered meal and nowhere does it say chicken breast with a bit of thigh bone, or chicken thigh wrapped in bacon. It clearly states chicken breast wrapped in bacon. The management said that's the way we buy our cuts of chicken!! I think that's an unsatisfactory explanation. Chef said, the cut of chicken was a supreme chicken cut! Whatever that is. Don't go to the buck inn. We cannot recommend it for food. We didn't feel welcomed.

Great place , very friendly, helpful , food and beer choice excellent. Dog friendly too. Has outside seating but we sat inside . Lovely atmosphere.

The best Sunday roast I’d had in a long time, if you’re anywhere near, it’s definitely worth stopping in. Not necessarily the most picturesque from the outside, but quite salubrious inside, and the food, wow. If you like a Sunday roast, you will not be disappointed.

We were staying at Keldy over the weekend and booked in here for Saturday night. The food and service was amazing. 4 of us dined and all had starters mains and deserts. This food is beyond pub food. It is high end restaurant quality. Excellent traditional pub with welcoming landlord and landlady. It was that good we booked again for Sunday early evening. We look forward to our visit next year. Thank you for your hospitality and great food. Dog friendly too!

On arrival at this cosy pub we were immediately made to feel welcome, the fire was lit and the staff could not have been more friendly. We ordered a meal. My husband had the pie, which was delicious. I was delighted to see belly pork on the menu and was impressed by the review and the appetising photo left by a previous reviewer. Unfortunately, I don't think my meal was cooked by the same chef. The pork was flesh coloured on top, and the crackling was so tough it was inedible. Sadly I felt the whole dish was not cooked well and lacked flavour. This meal would not put us off returning to this gem of a pub, we wondered if the regular chef was not working on our particular visit, as all other reviews seem to love the food served here.

Five friends, we were staying at Rocklands Lodges just over half a mile away. This was the nearest pub and it had good reviews so we walked down to it and we were so glad we did. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly. I’m coeliac so the waiter showed me the allergen menu and explained everything very well. The food was fabulous. We were not expecting it to be so good, it was very good quality and we were very happy with the whole experience.

Great Sunday lunch . Attentive staff Dog friendly . On holidays , I asked on local Fb group for recommendations, this got most mentions and we weren’t disappointed.

We visited for Saturday lunch and really enjoyed it. It was fairly quiet but still a lovely atmosphere. A proper old fashioned pub. Everything was lovely and clean and the staff were nice and friendly. The food was really good, recommend the chicken pie.

Was recommended to this place by our hosts when we were unable to get a table in walking distance of our B & B in Pickering and we weren’t left disappointed. We received a warm welcome from the bar team and were lucky to be seated immediately (it was quite busy and we hadn’t booked). It’s an old pub with lots of trinkets, local photographs and wood panelling. I had a nice halloumi starter and pork belly for main which was also good - can’t remember what main my wife had but she enjoyed it and she had a cherry frangipane dessert which was ok. Fairly reasonable bill for a good quality meal.

Love coming to the Buck the service is excellent. The bar maid is excellent and they make you feel very welcome. However on some dishes you may feel you want more. I was disappointed with the veg I only got one carrot and two small pieces of broccoli with my meat pie - a little more veg would make it better and more value for money

Stayed in Wrelton for two nights and booked a table at the Buck Inn the first night. We had a lovely meal. Recommend the lamb shank on the specials board. Staff were friendly and food lovely.

We were a large party with 6 adults and 5 children and we were so well looked after. The inn is lovely and the room at the rear was great and accommodated us and another large party. The chicken and leek pie and the Venison curry dishes were excellent, great quality and expert cooking. Service was great. Would not hesitate to recommend.
