Stayed here Friday to Monday end of September and we were really lucky to have caught nice weather. The staff were friendly and welcoming - could not fault. We were shown to our lodge and had the hot tub explained to us and general fire safety rules etc. We stayed at the Levisham lodge. It was clean, warm and great views of the lake which had wildlife there too. The lodge itself had plenty of utensils and crockery to use. There was a flat screen TV fully equipped with Freeview and apps such as BBC iPlayer, Netflix and many more. There were fresh bath and hand towels on each bed, the rooms were spacious enough and had a comfortable night sleep, lovely and fresh, clean bedding. There was a nice touch with a welcome basket with biscuits, tea and coffee. The hot tub was lovely and clean upon using it, we were in it every day and night! Couldn’t get enough of the views! Very private as well which was great. We had a drink inside Spencer’s Bar and Grill on site, which seems to only be open end of the week/weekends at the moment but has a lovely welcoming atmosphere. Warm and cosy in there with a fantastic drink selection behind the bar! Big play park outside to keep the kids entertained. Also, went to the Black Bull Inn just opposite the site over the road, again, welcoming and warm and friendly atmosphere, great drink and food selection. If you fancy a walk into Pickering - it’s about half an hour walk along Malton Road to get there. It’s a quiet and friendly little place with a good selection of small markets and unique boutique shops. Definitely worth a visit. Will definitely return again to Pickering Lodges, had such a lovely and relaxing time. Everywhere is dog friendly which is a huge bonus for those who like to take their dogs on breaks away!

Loved our little holiday, we didn't want to leave, we stayed in a nice Lodge with good quality furniture, with comfy sofas and beds that was very clean and tidy. The surroundings are wonderful and very relaxing, the hot tub was checked and cleaned every day. The location was perfect and you can get a bus into Malton or Pickering or further afield if you want. The staff were very friendly and the onsite bar was very welcoming, we didn't eat there but the food looked delicious (we will definitely eat there on our next visit). We will definitely be returning as we enjoyed our stay so much, we returned home very chilled out. Till next time...

Pickering Lodges was our "base camp" for our week long trail walking holiday, a place where my boyfriend and I could relax after a long slogs of walking in the moors and along the coastal paths. That was the plan anyway, and though it was somewhat relaxing it was quite up to the spec we thought we were getting. And we've stayed in self-catering lodges before so we know the drill and have other places to compare this experience to. The entrance to the site left a lot to desired. Spencer's, the on-site bar and dining facility, looked a little lacklustre to be honest and needs some TLC. The lodges themselves looked better. Ours had a lovely view of the lake, parking, and hedges tall enough to give off the illusion of privacy when you're on the decking. Speaking of the decking, can't say it was the best in the world. It needed a good clean (especially when people are gunna be barefoot getting in and out of the hot tub!). It was covered in slippery green slime, which I slipped on when bringing in my luggage and badly bruised my knee. The hot tub and garden furniture looked like they'd seen better days and made us sceptical about using either. Inside the lodge, on first impressions, looked great. But when you're living in it for a week the issues become clear. Once upon a time the fixtures and fittings might have been "luxury" but not so much now. A lot of things were damaged and unusable or just dated (the mattress was really bad and the shower head was so rusty it fell off!). We were given no information about how to use the heating system or the oven/hob, the contact number they gave us was invalid, and there were only two towels (and no washing machine) to last seven days. But it did give me one of my favourite memories of our holiday... sitting in the hot tub in the middle of the night looking up at the stars.

We stayed in lodge 1 the Pickering lodge which is right beside the park. It was perfect for us as we have 2 young children so we were able to relax in the lodge but still able to keep an eye on the children whilst they played in the park. The hot tub was amazing. It was ready to use the moment we arrived and the temperature was perfect. It was cleaned daily by the staff. The lodge itself was immaculate. Beds were very comfortable. The whole experience was perfect. Would definitely stay here again. Only 1.8 miles away from flamingoland and Pickering high street a very short drive. The Spencer Bar on site is a lovely pub. Has a pool table and loads of indoor and outdoor seating. Really reasonably priced. The food was lovely, and if you would rather take out, you can take food out to your lodge.

We arrived a little early and the bar/reception wasn't open, but there was a member of staff sitting outside and he took us to our lodge no 9, and explained everything in detail (heating, WiFi, and hot tub) then left us to explore. My first impression was that it was very clean, and tidy. It had everything needed for a self catering break, even though we had planned on eating out. The onsite restaurant (Spencers) was closed Monday and Tuesday, but the Black Bull across the road serves excellent food. The hot tub was just fabulous, beautiful and clean, very private and the maintenance was carried out regularly. All the furnishings were comfortable, although the sofas in our Lodge were a little worn and the recliner was broken on one sofa, this really didn't bother us.,although it's something that needs addressing. The bed was really comfortable but a little tight for space around it. I was glad we had the 2nd bedroom for space. The bathroom was adequate, but really does need a little bit of thought, maybe somewhere to hang towels. We were given 2 hand and 2 bath sheets but maybe extra towels for use in the hot tub would be good. But all in all we had a fabulous relaxing break and I would definitely recommend staying at Pickering Lodges.

The lodge was clean, and the kitchen facilities were good. The lodge décor was dated, and the smell was overpowered with air fresheners. The beds were very uncomfortable. The slats need tightening as all beds squeaked with the slightest movement. The pillows were lumpy. The towels set out for the children were thread bare. On the first night there was a significant leak in the kitchen. Although this was rectified the next day, there was no acknowledgement or recompense from the management, even though my husband had explained that he had to get up every hour during the night to empty the washing bowl. The garden table and chairs were filthy as were the chair covers. The chairs were unusable. There was no recycling facilities. Although the owner said they separated the recycling, this was hard to believe as we were told to put all of our rubbish into a bin bag and place into a central point. We took our recycling home, We were alarmed to discover that when guests leave, the water from the jacuzzi was emptied onto the track outside the lodges. The chemical infused water ran onto plants and shrubs. We ate at the pub restaurant on the last night. The food was appalling. Everything was overcooked. The onion rings and garlic dough balls were brown and too hard to eat. The burgers and pizza were poor. The food was presented on silver trays which were tarnished. The tables were sticky. Overall we made the best out of a bad situation. We would not recommend the Lodge, which was described as “luxury”.

A really great lodge, very clean and set out really well. I much prefer the hot tub being on the deck so you can go straight back inside, instead of walking round on the gravel like some lodges are. There is also a lot of privacy around the hot tub with a great view of the pond. We loved how comfy the reclining sofas were, and the WiFi and smart tv were really easy to set up, and the connection was good as well. There is loads of parking too right next to the lodge so you can come in more than one car if needed. My main criticism was the electric radiators were really hard to use, maybe we pressed the wrong buttons but we couldn’t get them to turn off/turn down so had to have the windows open to release the heat as it got very hot in the night (in March). The bedroom radiator was already turned off at the wall, we turned this on and it seemed to have been stuck at 30 degrees with no way of turning it down other than turning off at the wall. The pillows in the bedroom were really thin so I would bring my own next time. The bathroom was huge, maybe it could have done with a toilet roll holder in the empty space. The kitchen had nearly everything we needed (there is no dishwasher so bear that in mind) the sink was quite small so we struggled a little even with just two people, pans are provided but no baking trays. Overall I would recommend this site, I’d love to come back in summer when the weather is nicer.

Just had a lovely Valentines Weekend at Pickering lodges with my Fiancée. I have been to lots and lots of lodges in the past and never gave a 5 star rating. However Pickering lodges get 5 stars from me. Lovely lodge with everything you need. Hot tub on decking facing a pond, lovely view. Spencer’s restaurant is very nice, lovely food and great staff. Can’t fault anything. Thank you.

As a lodge and trip we enjoyed ourselves and would consider returning. However, I can’t understand how they can advertise this is a ‘luxery’ holiday site. It’s only just above average in my opinion, and although these following little bits don’t bother me that much, I feel they may bother a lot of other people so I felt the need to point them out. - there was no soap at all in the lodge, had to go and buy some. -the shower door wouldn’t close so had to keep a towel on the floor. -speaking of towels, we only got one each for the week with no indication we could get another, and they were like drying yourself with sand paper. -there was no hoover/mop present so we could clean the floor after walks with the dog. -the bedroom was VERY cramped when we had our travel cot set up, just a heads up for the new parents. -access to our lodge was very tight and difficult to park. Other than these small problems, we did enjoy it. Highly recommend Daley Forest, it’s fantastic for dogs and walking!

Lovely wooden lodge, and hot tub is the clincher.. Great layout of lodges. All private, facing the lake. Lovely open plan layout... very warm in winter, great decking area with hottub. Pub restaurant on site really nice. Only small criticism... towels provided are small, better for kids, not adults. And only one towel per person. Be better to have 2, with there being a hot tub. .. stayed in other hottub cabins, and they provided towel robes. That would be a nice addition here for using hottub, especially in winter.

Stayed during half-term in Goathland Lodge. Arrival was easy and nice friendly welcome - despite us being from Yorkshire ourselves it was useful to get some local knowledge. Lodge was ok size wise with reclining sofas which was nice for relaxing. Hot tub was large and well looked after. Kitchen adequate - missing some utensils that would have been useful, but we got by. No full length mirror in the lodge which would have been beneficial - very difficult getting ready at times. Double bed was really uncomfortable and we were glad to get back home to our own bed. Left us both with a stiff neck and aching back. Bathroom a bit tired and needs some tlc. Tap chrome chipping off, shower ok, but riser needs replacing and bits of chipped tiles about and bath panel split. Main issue for me is a strong ammonia type smell - clearly a drain issue that actually woke me one night as it was that pungent. Lodges are set on a lake which is so relaxing and hedges make it private. Brilliant location to explore Dalby Forest, Whitby and surrounding towns. 5 minute drive to flamingo land and very close to Scarborough and York. Spencer’s bar and grill is lovely food and good value. Staff amazing. Not a lot for kids to do so wouldn’t stay again.

We stayed at Pickering lodges ( lodge 6) which is ideal for a couple and it was very clean and had everything you could want and a hot tub which was a great touch, the staff were very helpful and explained everything on our arrival and the hot tub was checked every day. It was very peaceful and private too they are set so none of the lodges are over looked which is fab. Spencer’s bar and grill on site is another gem we went in every day of our stay for food and drinks and I can say we were not disappointed the food was very nice and the portion sizes were generous and very reasonable prices too, all the staff in there were nice and helpful and polite we do think they are set in an ideal location . We will definitely be booking again in future. Well done everyone .

Amazing place to stay, very clean lodge. Nice quiet area but close enough to visit Scarborough and Whitby. We had to cut our stay short due to an issue at home we needed to get back for but really enjoyed the stay whilst we were there. Regular daily checks on the hot tub and the staff were lovely. Gutted that we had to leave early but would definitely return.

I would not recommend lodge number 3. My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights was supposed to be 4 but went home a day early. There was childrens hand marks all over the glass doors . The shower screen at the bottom was green all along the seal. The bed sheet was stained . The mattress was too small for the bed frame. No plug for kitchen sink. The worst bit it of it all was the hot water or lack of it there was hardly any hot water . The steps up to the decking was steep not good if you have mobility problems.

Just returned from a long weekend at Pickering Lodges. The site is spotless and well maintained. Check in was easy and hassle free. The lodge was large and although in close proximity to others, the carefully planted hedges blocked any noise and view of the other accomodation. It excelled at privacy and we didn't hear any other occupants. The safety aspects such as heating, smoke and carbon monoxide sensors and what to do in an emergency were explained and pointed out to us. The hot tub was a lovely addition which we used most of the weekend, having been given an explanation as to how it works. Whilst there it was one of the rare exceptionally hot weekends so maybe a patio parasol could be considered as there was no shade. I would also recommend a mop, we couldn't find one which would have been handy as young children exiting the hot tub soon managed to leave the kitchen floor with lots of wet foot prints. We ate in the on site restaurant - Spencers and could not fault value for money and portion size. We had a small Sunday lunch but it was definitely ample and we left feeling full and satisfied. It is an excellent location for exploring the local area from Scarborough to York, along with Flamingo Land and Eden Camp on the door step. Unfortunately the weather was so hot it was impractical to all we wanted to do with young children so will definitely return in cooler weather.

Recently stayed in lodge 3, very comfortable and well equipped, though it was looked clean, slight attention to detail was needed, extractor fan would probably work better, if cleaned, also was shocked to see stains on duvet. (Problem with being a housekeeper myself, always checking). Lovely steakhouse and grill on site, but unfortunately not open Monday and Tuesday, had a lovely meal there on our last night, staff and food very good and good value. A information pack would of been nice of places of interest to visit as it was our first trip to Yorkshire. Even though there were a few faults, we would definitely return. Lodge was very comfortable and in a nice setting, had a Robin visit us every morning and the hot tub very relaxing after a day exploring

Good points:Stunning lodgeReally comfy reclining sofas Large hot tubAmazing viewsPerfect location (5 mins from Flamingoland, 30 mins from Whitby, a few minutes from the centre of Pickering)Happy for you to have online groceries deliveredPrivate On site restaurant decent food Bad Points: Beds are a bit small for tall people No freezerNo dishwasherThe oven front had been cleaned so well they’d scrubbed off the temperatures and what all the buttons were for so lots of messing about trying to get it to work Could never get in touch with anyone, tried to ring the contact number many times and no one answered until the pub opened at 4, and even then sometimes had to try a few times, a mobile number for queries throughout the stay would be useful to ask about the oven, report any problems etc The frying pan is tiny so take your own if you are going to need one Despite the points above we had a fantastic stay, and I’d definitely return but the above getting sorted would just make it perfect! The cash deposit on arrival was refunded with no issues at the end and all the staff were really friendly.

We’ve stayed in a few places in and around North Yorkshire and thought Pickering Lodges were up with the best. Nestled around a small natural fishing lake the park offers well laid out and modern accommodation and are very private. The hot tubs were well looked after and although the grounds are being developed this didn’t disturb us one bit. There’s a small play-park and football area for the kids and Spencer’s Bar & Grill offers a great selection of food to either eat in or takeaway. The beds were really comfy and the gas heating welcome.Situated just out of the lovely town of Pickering, there’s plenty places to go. Train station at Malton takes you to York in 25 minutes. Only point we would make is that this lodge did not have a freezer which is a bit strange for a self catering accommodation - we managed but even a small freezer tray in the fridge would be better and if you was here any longer than we were it could be an issue.

Just back from a 4 night stay at Pickering Lodges. We stayed in the Newbridge Lodge which had 3 bedrooms. The lodge was clean inside but is in need of some refurbishment. Large cracks in the ceiling and furniture sofa and dining table have seen better days. The beds are ridiculously low, do not book this lodge if you have any disabilities at all, these need to be replaced with full size beds as the wood round the edges of the beds take up too much room.

Just back after 4 night stay in Newton Dale lodge. Lodge was perfect for our family of five, plenty of room for us with the bonus of huge decking area with hot tub. Beds were comfortable enough, reclining sofas a huge hit! Shower was good for a lodge shower, appreciated the lcd temp display so I didn’t have the usual get scalded/frozen fight with an unfamiliar shower! Box full of goodies on arrival alongside the usual tea and coffee was a nice touch too.

We have just returned from a weekend away for a silver wedding celebration. The lodge was very nice internally adequately clean however you can tell they are dated a little with water damage on the ceilings and the external decor needs updating. The negative bit said, these lodges are private and a well maintained hot tub. The lodges are spacious and very comfortable. The settees are leather and very comfortable. The bedding was clean and a good range of towels. There are bathrobes if you wish to use them. The shower and toilet are en suite in both bedrooms. Beds comfortable. The kitchen as fair amount of utensils and the cooking facilities again clean. This lodge was budget range and met our needs. A little modernization would help. However we would certainly come here again. The location is private on a site with a lake and Spencers grill.

Spencers restaurant on the site, does great food at a reasonable price and will deliver to your lodge if wanted. Owners and stsaff are all friendly. NIce setting on park, with a lake (deep, dont go near) and some ducks. An enjoyable weeks stay and ideal for Yorkshire coast, wolds etc.

Our lodge was pet friendly one and also had a hot tub to chill out in on evening.owners are very friendly and helpful if we needed anything during our stay. Stayed 4 nights Monday to Friday, was a lovely place and the lodge was cosy and clean, the hot tub was fabulous and overlooked the lake. Its set in a good location and not far from Whitby and scarborough. The kitchen is well equipped, complimentary cakes, tea, coffee, jams, milk and soft drink on arrival. The only 2 negative things we found was the bed was very hard and the water wasn't hot enough to have a bath. Apart from that we had a lovely break and would definitely come back.

Just had a fantastic 3 day stay at Pickering Lodges. It's in a great location on the outskirts of Pickering. The lodges are beautifully designed & positioned with privacy in mind. Lovely kitchen, lounge & bedrooms. Very spacious & tastefully furnished. The hot tubs are great, they are positioned outside on the decking with a beautiful view of the lake. The site also has The Spencer's bar & grill, we had a lovely meal there, they also deliver food to your lodge if you wish. Food and drinks are very reasonably priced, probably the cheapest pint in the area plus they have discount on gins etc. We walked to Pickering on the Saturday (approx 30 mins walk) & had a nice stroll around the town. The owner's of the site we're kind enough to pick us up from Pickering early evening in their Mini bus. The staff were all very friendly, helpful & couldn't do enough for us which made our stay even more special and we will definitely be booking again.

Lodge was very clean but not well equipped especially things like kitchen utensils, hooks for towels and some hooks to hang wet towels and wet swimwear would have been nice, shower in one bath room very slow to empty had to turn it off half way through shower to allow time to empty and noticed most days water on the floor around toilets in both on suites. Spencer’s bar however was lovely we had a birthday meal for our daughter in law food was fantastic and cheep drinks. On arrival to the lodge we had a lovely welcome from owners nice Welcome with the cakes, tea, coffee, milk and flavoured water provided on arrival, hot tub very basic but ok for a weekend, but was maintained daily. Pickering is a nice place and close to Whitby and Scarborough which we visited all these places whilst here. would return but maybe a lodge with a better hot tub next time. Overall enjoyed the weekend thanks to the staff on site for providing a good weekend break x

Arrived half hr early & was allowed early check, Fab ! 3rd time in the goathland lodge & I can say the little snagging issues we had previouslry had mostly been done apart that carpet was till needing a bit of TLC as was still apart from the carpet gripper. We was very dissapointed with welcome pack, no buns or muffins just cheap minature tins of cider. Maybe they know we're returning guests & don't feel need to impress us ...who knows. I will say it was very clean inside but there was a manky mat outside which u wouldn't want to put your feet on after returning from hot tub, we had really good night's sleep the bed & bedding was very comfortable, however my hubby is over 6 ft & the bed is short so his feet did stick out which I found funny. The utensils were very sparce & no dustpan or brush which would have been handy. The bath towells are of good quality. The positives outweigh the negatives & all ready planning another stay but gonna choose different lodge. Top tips...if 2 of u are booking a 4 berth lodge add the full 4 to your booking as you get 4 sets of towels instead of 2, this is handy to use for the hot tub instead of trying to dry towels, your not charged any extra, also take plastic wine/pint pot for use when your in the hot tub. Also be very aware that in very cold weather the wooden decking in treacherous, tread very carefully

We visited Pickering lodges at the end of September. We are a family of 4 so after picking the kids up from school we set off to Pickering for the weekend. On arrival a lovely lady showed us to our lodge which had 2 beers, 2 fruit shoots and 4 cakes waiting for us. We were shown how to use the hot tub. The lady told us about Spencer's bar and grill and we said that we were planning to eat in there the next night so she advised we book a table as it was going to be busy because there was a party. We had a fantastic weekend, accommodation was perfect, location was fantastic! We drove to Whitby which was only about 20 mins away. This has been our 3 visit here, the location is fantastic, the food at the restaurant is excellent too, however the lodge inside is beginning to look really shabby and the amount of flies/insects that were about on the evenings whilst we were trying to relax in the hot tub really spoilt our visit this year. They were everywhere, we were removing them with a sieve in the end as there were just so many, we believe this maybe down to the state of the lake just opposite the lodge. Previous visits have always been good, however, after our last visit, I am unsure as to whether or not we would plan a return visit.

We have just returned from a weeks stay in a lovely one bedroom lodge with a hot tub at Pickering lodges. A friendly welcome awaited us and we were shown our lodge , which was tastefully furnished and a good size . The lodge overlooked a lake frequented by geese and other birds. The setting is very quiet and peaceful and lodges amply spaced for privacy. The hot tub was a great bonus and we used it daily. Spencer's bar and Restaurant on site was really welcoming and served lovely meals with friendly staff and regulars. Pickering is a great place to explore North Yorkshire from and a trip on the steam train is highly recommended! A great holiday and we would really recommend Pickering lodges especially lodge number 6.

Just returned from a wonderful week staying at the Pickering Lodge. Lodge was comfortable, clean and the hot tub was amazing, it really added to our enjoyment of the lodge. Also the robes for each of us and the wine, kids drinks and muffins on arrival was a lovely touch! Location was good for getting out and about and experiencing North Yorkshire. Only a couple of miles from Flamingo land and then Pickering in the other direction also few miles from Dalby Forest. Pickering was enchanting with lovely cafes and access to the North Yorks Railway Both meals in Spencers Bar & Grill were excellent - the best steak I've had in ages and kids loved the pizzas and there is the added convenience of having your meal delivered to the lodge. We were the nearest lodge to Spencers Bar so experienced a little noise from the band but it really wasn't an issue as stopped at 11pm and we were warned in advance. It may be an issue for people with very young children but it wasn't for us as they are older. Issue we had with hot water one evening was rectified quickly. Overall I would recommend staying here and we will definitely return at some point in the future.

We have just returned from our third visit in four years. We have stayed at a lot of lodges and cottages but love these. The location is perfect for us with the restaurant on site, pub nearby and Pickering close by. The lodges are finished to a good standard. The outside area is big and the view is beautiful. The hot tub is spacious and well maintained, there is privacy in the hot tub due to the now established trees. Marie and the staff are down to earth and cannot do enough for you. The bar is very reasonably priced and they have a vast selection of drinks... we loved sampling the gins this time. The food is reasonable priced and good quality. We used a local taxi recommended by Marie and he was really nice. We also tried the new cocktail bar in Pickering she told us about and had a lovely evening. There were functions on two of the nights we were there and there was no issue with noise from these. We would highly recommend this place and cannot wait to return

We had these lodges recommended to us. On arrival to the site there is no signs to reception - you have to go in the pub and get directions from a young lady behind the bar. We were told to just 'go straight forward' and we would find our lodge. On the way there we saw another lady who took us to our lodge but knew absolutely nothing about the heating etc... After she left we had a look around. We had booked a lodge with a double and a twin room - we got a DOUBLE and BUNKBEDS which were not long enough for me to fit on and also not what we had booked! So be really carful when you book these lodges about the beds that are REALLY in there. I would not return because of this.

We arrived on the Friday excited for a weekend away to enjoy some peace and quiet but were met by an owner (Marie) with the biggest attitude problem. She spoke to us like school children as she showed us around the cabin and did nothing but warn us about our behavior - even making snide comments. She made everyone feel incredibly uncomfortable all weekend and basically acted like we were there to destroy the place. The facilities were ok with the cabin requiring some upkeep and a deep clean but the hot tub was great. It's in a beautiful spot. If Marie learned some people skills and appreciated the people who are giving her money then it'd be great. The best example of this was when one of our party went to ask her a questions and she held an arm in the air saying "I don't have time for this".

had a lovely 3 night break here in January. Found it easily with sat nav although no sign on the main road meant we were a little unsure when we turned down the driveway. could also be useful to make people aware that reception is in the restaurant prior to arrival as we were unsure what to do when we arrived but these points were the only very small faults! We walked in the door to find doughnuts 2 beers and juices for the kids which was a lovely touch, there was also a selection of coffee/teabags/jam which was handy as I'd forgotten these essentials! The lodge itself was immaculate and fresh, beds were comfy, so comfy that my 2year old slept through every night which is a miracle! Lovely cosy feel and the fire in the living area was beautiful and warm, though a fireguard would be handy when children are staying. Restaurant was nice, my husband raved about the steak! Reasonably priced and friendly service too! On 2nights there was a disco/ band on, we were warned about this and asked to inform them if it became a problem, although we could here it the kids didn't bother and still slept and it was finished by 11 so not a problem but I'd recommend a lodge further away if your bothered by that sort of thing (ours was the second one in so quite close). Lots to do in the area we had trouble deciding with only having 3days! Scarborough is only around 30/40 minutes drive and even in the freezing cold and rain the kids loved their day at the beach! Flamingo land is literally 5minutex away And Pickering has a steam railway, though it was out of season when we went! All in all a brilliant weekend and we are hoping to go again at the end of the year!

We returned to Pickering Lodges again for the start of February half term, after staying here the same time last year and having a fantastic time, However the lodge (number 4) which we had previously stayed in wasnt available so we booked lodge 4. This was disappointingly not the same standard due to the following, no freezer, main double bed rather uncomfortable, the oven had no legible dials so we couldn't work out how to use it, no toilet rolls, the shower has one temperature-cool, only 3 cups, limited kitchen equipment-no bottle opener, no dustpan and brush and a tea towel with black long hairs on it!!! The lovely lady from the bar did give us more cups on request and helped with the oven and we borrowed a bottle opener from next door lodge but we really couldn't face going through this 'snag list' during our stay!! We did inform the lady about the shower temperature and she said we should have told her sooner and this would have been fixed, but we did notice that previous reviewers had also identified this problem. Although this does appear like an unsatisfactory visit it certainly wasnt, but compared to last year it was certainly not as good. The hot tub was fab, the standard of the overall fixtures and fittings, the parks tranquillity and location all made for another fantastic weekend break. We will try booking earlier if we choose to go again so we can choose the lodge, as for what we paid it wasnt as good value as the previous year.

Bit of confusion on arrival as it wasn't clear that Spencer's bar also served as the reception. The lodge itself was clean and fresh. The hot tub was fantastic, kept it's heat for over an hour before it started to drop and was maintained daily. The kitchen facilities however, were very basic. We got by with what was there, but there were only 3 pans and hardly any utensils. No frying pan or griddle pan, no measuring jug, no whisk, no wooden spoons. It would be most helpful if it was stipulated on the website, exactly what was available in the lodge. That way you could plan meals more easily. We did eat at Spencer's (as there were no oven proof dishes so I abandoned plans to make casserole) one night. It was a great little place and the food was lovely.Overall it's a lovely place but I've been to other Hoseasons resorts with far more for your money.

Stayed for a long weekend here, 2 nights just myself and my wife, 1 night with our family. Plus points: Lodge is very clean, robes and towels provided. Spacious lodge. Overall the site is lovely with and views of the lake. The bar / restaurant we ate in once over the weekend, the restaurant was very good with some huge portions, the bar itself is "ok" (there's a better bar down the road the Black Bull with a roaring fire to enjoy). Minus points: On arrival no sign of any reception, which turned out to be in spencers bar. The directions in could do with improving. In the lodge there was a slight smell of gas in the lodge and the oven had seen better days with the dial markings pretty much gone. Shower tray could of done with replacing. The hot tub was very large, fitted the whole family in, but the jets were pretty much non existent when turned on. No temperature setting either or jet speeds. Just on or off.Overall we enjoyed the stay and were looked after very well. Would come back again for sure.

Stayed here is February for a long weekend with my husband. Read reviews before and knew you couldn't check in until 4 so stopped at the pub around the corner for lunch and got to Spencer's where you check in about 3.30. The handy man tried to help us check in but didn't know what he was doing and it all became a bit of a kerfuffle so we got a drink and said we would wait until someone could come and check us in. Once checked in we were shown to the lodge. It was brand new and they told us we were 2nd guests. Lovely open plan lodge with kitchen living room with Smeg fire and bedroom with open plan bathroom. Everything you need for a weekend in the kitchen and towels and robes in the bedroom.Hot tub was lovely and they showed us how to use. Me and my partner visited for a short 3 day break in February. There is no signs on the main road to direct luckily we looked st directions before we left so would recommend a sign post. When we arrived we where unsure where to book in so we went in to Spencer's bar which was the reception. I think this should have a sign post to direct customers. We were quickly shown to our lodge and a member of staff showed us how to work the hot tub, fire, cooker etc. The lodge is very spacious and clean but could do with a bit of maintenance i.e. Carpets are worn and frayed and shower knob is broken meaning temperature cannot be controlled. Another point is that more toilet roll is needed as was left one roll and more towels. Other than that the lodge is in a perfect location around the stunning lake with hot tub and large decking area with patio set. A fab touch is Spencer's bar and grill on site which is used by locals also. There is a children's play park next to Spencer's too. Is close distance to Pickering, Malton, Scarborough and Whitby meaning there is plenty to do on your break. Would recommend and would return in the future

"you enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" said the bar room sign which greeted this weary wanderer who'd taken a wrong turn. I ordered a pint and sure enough before it was pulled I was in conversation with a local man who thenintroduced me to the bar staff! The Sunday Roast was in full swing, the campers were in and out from the pub campsite and the occasional labrador was stealing hearts but nothing seemed to much trouble for the staff. This is a proper country pub, as warm and cosy as a storybook cottage and it's charm appeared to be working on a nearby American couple who's fantasies of an Olde English Country Pub had all just come true. I was on foot and was a few miles from the nearest town but lo and behold one of my new-found companions insisted on giving me a lift... As I exited the bar I glanced the "enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" sign again - this pub does what it says on the tin!

It would look like I’m beating a drum for this pub! But we keep going back because to be honest it is just such good value. Tried their two steaks for £20, choice of rump, sirloin or ribeye, we both went for sirloin, superb, cooked as we wanted, medium rare, salad, mushrooms, peas, onion rings, and a separate bowl of chips. You must try it! I also think you will find it harder to get a better pint of bitter, landlady told me lines are cleaned at the change of every barrel as well as normal cleaning.

Absolutely loved this pub/restaurant. We sat outside with our dog at one of numerous tables and had a delicious Sunday lunch. So much flavour in the meat and the roast potatoes were the best. A bit pricey but worth it for the setting, the food, the service and the landlord brought out some steak pieces for the dogs to share. Amazing.
