Pub with plenty of character. Good choice on menu, Yorkshire sized portions and food of good quality. Staff friendly, welcoming and helpful. One perhaps drawback for some in having to use public pay and display car parks. Convenient though.

Great atmosphere in this old coaching inn. On Sundays there is a roast beef and Yorkshire pudding option on the menu which is worth sampling. The service is friendly and it makes for a good dining experience.

Fabulous hotel, booked as a treat by friends as a couples weekend d break and did not disappoint- visiting from New Zealand. Rooms were fabulous, great bar, restaurant and location. Would definitely recommend and return.

We have been here before. We had a table booked later in week too. We popped into the Pickwick Bar, a lot standing around doorway , noted tables free. Tried to talk to staff member who just shook his head towards Bar area & went off. I did go to Bar and 3 words spoken to me curtly, No food tonight & went to pull pint. I left & went to pub across Road, We canx our Dinner later in week & didnt re visit during our week. We went and ate out in other establishments in Helmsley who made us welcome

Everything about it was just right. The location, in the beautiful square in the center of the pretty village. The tastefully decorated and comfortable bedrooms, the good food and nice atmosphere of the hotel, and of course the friendliness of those working there, particularly Ali who was at breakfast each morning.

We stayed at the feathers and ate both breakfast and dinner, firstly the food is good and the staff very helpful but the room was grubby and very tired. The cleaning staff didn't and cobwebs needed clearing up as well as a general clean. Afraid to say that I will stay some where else but would eat there.

The Sunday lunch we had at The Feathers was pretty near darn perfect. Plenty of hot tasty freshly cooked food served by pleasant friendly staff. There was nothing to complain about at all.

We walked around the local Abbey and Castle ruins. Followed by a superb Sunday lunch at this fantastic hotel. We both had the Topside of beef with veg and cauliflower cheese the food was out of this world so tasty and nice big portion.

Booked in advance as a large group for a 70th birthday celebration and there were helpful communications with the Feathers arranging and having to make some last minute changes. The request to make menu choices in advance was very practical and certainly worked extremely well. The staff were exceptional - friendly, smiling, chatty and efficient - such a pleasure when in other places you barely get a grunt when things are busy. The menu has helpful notes on allergens etc. which gave us confidence having a family member with severe nut allergy. Because of the ordering in advance the starters arrived promptly after drinks had been ordered and served - every choice was given a big thumbs up. Quick efficient clearing between courses and again the main courses were ready for everyone and served together - no waiting around for the last plate to arrive. Again each and every menu choice was enjoyed for taste, the way it was cooked and presented, and the portion sizes. No room for desserts though! The efficiency of the service meant that we were way inside the allotted time for our meal, but we never felt rushed and pressurised. Altogether one of the best dining experiences for a group I have ever experienced. Very strongly recommended if you are planning this sort of family meal celebration.

This is a beautiful pub to stay at , we unknowingly visited when their was a bikers festival on , very busy with crowds and motorbikes but we still enjoyed it , rooms were clean with good tea / coffee making facilities, clean bathrooms and bedding. Staff were so friendly , the lady on reception was lovely and really helpful , the deputy manager was a friendly Scottish man who was always smiling and nothing was too much trouble . The housekeepers asked if we needed anything everytime we saw them , and replenished the waters. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and it was really nice , well cooked food!! Atmosphere was great, would stay again !!

I had not been here for nearly 40 years. Was a great stop off in those days. It's changed a bit since then but our evening meal was very enjoyable.

Only called in for a Pint with a friend, what I saw was good, the Bar is a delight, good Beer at a good price, loved the Mouse man carvings

Sunday dinner at the Feathers cleared up a bleak summers day out with excellent food and service. Just drop in on the off chance there would be a table for two. Luckily, there was. A good Sunday menu at reasonable prices with a very good range of craft beer.

Lovely place in the heart of the town, I would very much visit again, the food was delicious and the service was fantastic.

Went in the bar for a drink last night. Would have been charged twice for the drinks had I not insisted by proving to the bar man on duty (via my banking app) that the card payment had gone through. No apology was forthcoming…..He just walked off!

Feathers is a very nice hotel. The staff was warm and pleasant, the room was clean and comfortable. It's location in the center of the town is perfect, park the car, unload your luggage and start exploring.

A great hotel located in Helmsley. It is a quirky old 'inn' that has really comfortable rooms, a great restaurant that provides a good selection of delicious meals. It is ideally located to get around this part of Yorkshire, while the town itself provides a number of small and very different types of shop to browse and buy at. Well worth a visit!!

Stopped for lunch on a Saturday on our way to the coast from Leeds. Food was excellent, I had the 'meat of the day' sandwich (chicken, as it happens) and my wife had a souffle. The only evidence of this at the end was crumbs and happy customers. Free parking behind the hotel is nice in Helmsley. Staff very discrete, and polite. Would recommend and will return.

Lovely place and very friendly. Dog friendly too and it was no problem staying there, being in the bar or eating with our dog with us (she's not small). The room was very comfortable, breakfast excellent and we had a nice relaxing stay. It is a tourist trap though, expect London prices in and around this lovely town, but would still recommend knowing this.

Terrible. We walked into the bar area and waited for at least five minutes. We then walked towards the restaurant and was rudely brushed aside. We ordered food which was very average. Plates were left on our table with no service whatsoever. The bill came with a 10% service charge which I would have been willing to pay but the service had been poor, and the staff rude. This charge was optional and I asked for it to be removed. I was told it had been removed and was presented with another bill (the bill with the service charge plus another 10%! as proof)...the service charge isn't optional. I then visited the Gents before leaving, there was no hand soap.

Fab food, lovely staff, brought a bowl of water for my dog into where we were dining. Very thoughtful of them.

Nice place to stay, conveniently placed, lovely pub atmosphere downstairs. The breakfast was lovely. Didn't get chance to try the evening meal due to power outage but we will be back to try that. Overall a lovely stay.

Joined a friend who was staying at the feathers. On arriving late sunday lunch time, we approached the restaurant manage to say my friend was booking in and we had booked a table. The irate manager went into panic mode, raising his voice asking which we wanted, checking in or a table. Said he coulc do two jobs and held up the palm of his hand to us both. He ushered my friend to reception and my friend said he would rather eat first. So, back he came, a waitress stepped in to help but again he raised his voice saying go away i can only fo one thing at a time. Strange, i am an ex catering restaurateur and am capable of dealing with many things at one time. Calmly. After seating us he tried to make amends but to be honest, it was not a very nice experience. I backed away into the corridor to give him space. The food was perfect as was the wine starter and dessert. I live in helmsley and thought you should know his customer service needs addressing.

Booked a last minute 2 night 'getaway' for my wife's birthday. We had 1 small dog with us, so asked for a dog friendly room. We arrived early & our room was ready. Reception check in was super efficient and friendly. We were even offered support with our baggage. Our room was wonderful (Classic double I think). There was a nice surprise ice bucket with a large bottle of Prosecco, 2 glasses and a birthday card for my wife. What a marvelous thought! Our dog was also spoiled with her own bowl, tennis ball, cleaning towel, treats, poo bags and mats. Room was warm, cosy and comfortable. Bathroom was clean and provided all amenities for washing/showering. Our smart TV even had a fire stick, so no shortage of visual entertainment if you wanted it. Breakfast was wonderful, with lots of variety. Evening meals scrumptious. Bar areas warm and welcoming. All staff, from reception, bar, meal services and cleaners were friendly, happy and helpful. The position of the hotel and free parking added more joy to our break. It was a faultless stay. Well done to all at the Feathers. I'd love to go back. All the best from Alan, Joanne & Millie. X

I booked this for afternoon tea with a friend on the basis of positive reviews but it was a rare intel fail. The food was ok but certainly nothing to rave about. The nadir was a scone so hard I genuinely thought it was plastic. I then clicked on that it must have been microwaved for too long. It was replaced with one which was barely better. For me, the scone is the highlight of an afternoon tea, so I was possibly disproportionately disappointed, but the true test is whether you’d go back, and in this case the answer is a resounding no.

Really lovely 2 night stay here. We stayed in the delux double room witch was outstanding, spacious clean and even had a bath in the room witch was unique. Breakfast was lovely and the pub had a great atmosphere. Staff were very warming and friendly. Can't fault this place also a great location. Loved the vibe overall great weekend :)

My sister and I were staying in Helmsley for an art course and visited the Feathers for dinner. The food could not have been better, real fine dining and we both loved it. Service was great too, professional, friendly, and welcoming.

Popped in for lunch, early doors. We had the chicken/ham hock pie and fish and chips, both were delicious and substantial portions! Staff were super friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

We found the Feathers to be an excellent hotel. The room was first class with very comfortable beds. The stafe were particularly friendly nothing was ever to much trouble. Helmsley is a great little town and the Feathers is in the best location.

Just returned from attending my daughter's wedding which was held at "The Feathers". Can only say it was a fantastic venue! Everything was very well organised and nothing was too much trouble . All the staff went out of their way to ensure it was the best day ever, a special mention to Tracy and Keith The wedding was top class, food delicious and the overnight stay luxurious and very comfortable. The surrounding area is very beautiful with lots to do so we will return. Would highly recommend !

We went here for a meal for our wedding anniversary last Saturday. Our daughters who both live abroad had both contributed something towards the meal with the restaurant without our knowledge. The staff went out of their way to make this a really special night. One of them even went out and purchased a card on behalf of our daughters for us. The food was brilliant and the service was exceptional. Would definitely recommend this place for food and service. Thank you to all the staff who made our evening special on Saturday. The Feather’s Hotel was a great place to stay. Our was spacious room was clean and very comfortable.The hotel is located in the beautiful village of Helmsley & faces the town square. The front bar with low beams and Mouseman carvings is full of character and a great place to have a drink & soak up the atmosphere of an old English pub that has accomodation. Would stay again!

My sister and I had the most wonderful meal on Wednesday night. Great service from Matthew and others, very friendly, welcoming and helpful. We had the sea bass with langoustine, and the lemon and spinach risotto, followed by the Earl Grey tea panna cotta with raspberry cream. Best meal either of us had had for a long time, just sublime, couldn't have been better. Thank you so much.

Brilliant meal , went as a family of 4 . Children's meal a good size and decent price and little one said it's so tasty. The staff were very attentive and so lovely. Our meals were great, very delicious. Can't fault the place. Would definitely go back again.

Having had a previously fantastic experience, I booked here again. Sadly things have changed and not for the better. Husband ordered a starter, we both ordered a main. Waiter asked if we wanted them all together??? Husband stated the starter (asparagus and duck egg) wasn't up to much. I ordered the beef daub which was supposed to be slow cooked. I can't understand why it was so very dry! It was most unpleasant. Hubby said fish was OK but the langoustine on the plate was a waste of time, it was all shell and no meat. We didn't bother with dessert as we were so disappointed in the quality of the food. There was a service charge added to the bill, they will take it off if you ask but I don't agree with service charges being added, these should be included in the price of the meal not added on at the end so you might miss it. Sneaky.
