Our second visit. Didn’t match up to the first. We were seated at a claustrophobic table next to a radiator with no windows. Ordered Sunday lunch that came with 3 boiled potatoes in their skin. No roast potatoes or mash. Plenty of meat but somehow it didn’t have much flavour. Also the waitress got our very straightforward drinks order wrong. It was expensive and disappointing.

Absolutely loved this pub/restaurant. We sat outside with our dog at one of numerous tables and had a delicious Sunday lunch. So much flavour in the meat and the roast potatoes were the best. A bit pricey but worth it for the setting, the food, the service and the landlord brought out some steak pieces for the dogs to share. Amazing.

Visited on a Monday evening for dinner. The staff were absolutely fantastic and welcoming. The steak pie was excellent and there was plenty of it. Sadly though we were put into a separate, dark and soulless room because we had our dog with us - this spoiled the whole evening. No other pubs we visited in the area made us go into a ‘dog’ room - disappointed!

Saturday night away, almost under the stars! My husband booked a meal in the restaurant and our campervan in the car park for a romantic night away, almost under the stars (if it wasn't so cold and rained so much). The pub was very busy, but we were made to feel welcome by Ben, as we enjoyed a drink in front of the roaring fire. Our aim was to go walking, but the rain put an end to that! So we had to have more drinks. Once the rain had stopped, we got our campervan ready for later, husband had a quick snooze (alcohol related) and then got ready for our dinner. The menu was not too large, but there was a wide selection of dishes, enough to satisfy everyone's palate. We opted for cheesy garlic bread, chicken wings, pie of the week chicken, bacon and mushroom with chips and peas, and fish pie with salad and pea, with a side of onion rings to share. All perfectly cooked and decent sized portions. Great stop, in a lovely village in North Yorkshire, and a new favourite for us!

A warm welcome from landlady Rachel at this traditional Farndale pub. Well kept ales on tap and a decent Rose wine slaked a thirst on arrival followed by a plump Sirloin Steak and trimmings and a plate of crispy scampi to keep us fed. Excellent value for money and all the traditions of top class inn-keeping can be found here in the glorious setting that is Farndale.

My 'Hot Beef Sandwich ' consisted of a dried out roll, a few tasty onions+mushrooms, one very small piece of delicious looking beef and two dreadful slices of 'spotty' slices of beef from a supermarket packet which were 'hidden' under the unadvertised topping. Slight argument when I asked for a refund. Was told the beef had been kept warming on a hot plate but not for how long. My daughter had already had to return a packet of crisps with a best before date of 2023.
