Just back today after a couple of excellent nights at the Moors Inn - great 🍺 & 🥃 selection but the food stole the show, what a superb specials board! Venison haunches in 🥃 gravy with a haggis a top a field mushroom - very tasty and imaginative, like a Scottish Laird’s feast! Also can’t not mention the highly welcome open fire where we got to warm up on both afternoons. Decent breakfasts too - all in all a great find and highly recommended. PS the sheep own these here parts!

What a refreshing change to walk into a busy thriving pub in this day and age. We were greeted in a friendly manner and managed to find a seat by the open fire. Perfect. We had a table booked and were lead to a dining room when our table was ready. The photos on here don't do it justice. It's a quaint pub and the dining room is snug but nicely decorated & furnished. I chose the gammon at £14.50!!! I think that is incredible value as only a week or two earlier I had it at a nearby pub at £18.95 and it wasn't a patch in this. The Moors gammon was thick and moist. Chips were superb and two eggs, tomato & peas and I was extremely satisfied. Starter was reasonable and very generous too. A proper local pub with great staff, great food & beer and dog friendly! What's not to love.

Enjoyed a lovely stay for a family reunion in this superbly friendly pub with delicious restaurant style meals and charming comfortable rooms. All staff were caring, attentive and amenable. Excellent menu choice and meal portions were plentiful. All rooms are of a similar standard with a clean modern powerful shower with all amenities you would want. Noise carries from the bar area to the rooms directly above. The heating schedule was a mystery but the bed throw kept us warm. Delicious hearty cooked breakfast with plenty of choice. A few dogs may frequent the bar area but there is a snug area with stylish decor and a separate dining room. Picturesque quiet country village close to Pickering. Overall an excellent choice for a short break. I would highly recommend.

For mains we had the trio of lamb and the beef medallions in pink peppercorn sauce. Vegetables and chips come with all the mains so no space for puddings although they did look tasty, maybe next time! Staff were very friendly too which always helps. Thanks for a lovely evening.

Visited twice whilst on holiday with my wife, lovely country pub with sheep outside sleeping on the grass verge....how cool is that! After reading a previous review i have to say we found the locals very welcoming, make conversation always at the bar i say. On the 2 occasions we visited the food was a big WOW!! I had a trio of lamb, consisting of a lamb chop, a rump of lamb and a lamb casserole which was in a redcurrant sauce, this came with chips and veg, this was as good as it gets, call it pub food and crank it up a few notches, one of the best meals i can remember eating, mentioned this to the chef who was passing when i was getting some drinks and you could see how proud of his food he put out, good to see a chef who cares. On the second visit i had a fillet of salmon and a fillet of bass on a bed of spaghetti vegetables in a lemon and prawn butter sauce with prawns added, with chips, way above pub food once again, i followed this with a lemon posset which was way out there in quality, one of the best places i have eaten in a long time.

Food can be served in either the bar or the restaurant. The place was buzzing, welcomed by an open fire and extremely welcoming staff. We were shown directly to our table in the restaurant and given plenty of time to make our dinner selections. The food in the menu looked mouth watering and the wine list was excellent. The waiting staff were really lovely and the wait for the food was what you would expect for the quality of the food and the cooking of it so it was well worth waiting for. Best tip stay in bar until closing or you won't sleep, an early night is out of the question in room 6.

We were staying at The Moors Inn on a Sunday night and had booked a table in the bar for our evening meal, as we had the pooch with us. I had asked for a table tucked away if possible to stop our dog attempting...

We stayed at the Inn on a bed and breakfast basis - we had been warned about the noise in the rooms above the bar but they were the only rooms left when we booked. What we didn't realise was that you could actually hear the conversations in the bar!! Your options are to take ear plugs or join them in the bar (until 1am!). Also the bathroom could have done with a good clean - especially the mouldy shower head. The saving grace was the food and drink for dinner - sensibly priced great food. So our advice would be to book a table for dinner (very popular) but stay somewhere else.

We have eaten here a few times recently and have not been disappointed, having been in the trade for many years we know how hard it is to keep standards up ,but we have not been disappointed at the Moors inn, always a good choice of menu and a varied specials board, excellent home made sweets, quality wine list and well kept ales, a well supported pub by the locals who obviously know what's good for them, and don't mind sharing ,friendly local staff ,what more do you want. Will be back soon.

We were enjoying a day out visiting the surrounding area of Danby/Castleton etc. and found this little pub purely by chance. Although we had no reservation we were welcomed and shown into a small but lovely dining room. My husband was unsure what beer to try so the waitress on duty suggested that he buy 3 x third of a pint sampler glasses of the beers on offer complete with it's own bespoke carrying tray; he thoroughly enjoyed all the beers!! It was a good menu with a good selection of meals on offer, I had the sea food platter which was gorgeous and my husband had the venison which he said was excellent we finished off with a sumptuous pudd and coffee. The staff were lovely, very friendly which all added to this lovely meal. Hopefully we shall go back there again taking some friends with us.

Although bar very busy early Friday evening our order taken quickly, starters of King prawns and whitebait presented to the high standard expected of a Michelin restaurant and tasted delicious, our choice of black and blue burger and fillet steak medallions, again did not disappoint, the crispy home made chips and assorted vegetables arrived hot and tasty, service and attention from manager although he was busy in the bar was superb, we will visit again sooner than later.

Make your way to the southern edge of the North Yorks Moors and try not to run over the distinctive sheep that keep the grass verges and hedges nicely trimmed by the side of the road. It's advisable to book because this popular hostelry can be full in both bar and restaurant. Food was good substantial pub fair and well cooked. Sensibly chosen and priced wine list. This is what pub eating should be about. Don't expect frills. Waiting staff are mostly young and local. We would go back any time.

We came for meal as had seen good reviews but upon entering after we had booked a table previous night were looked at like we didn't .... when we sat at the table we had booked waitress placed table mats etc on other tables and reserved sign and took ages to come to us considering no one was there at other tables and we had clearly ordered ...felt like we shouldn't of been there and only people that got a friendly welcome were two old ladies quite clearly regulars ( who my daughter heard the waitress say we will try sneak you in yet it took the same member of staff all the time in the world to ask if everything was ok as she continued to pass us but actually sat next to the two Ladies in question to makes sure they were fine (is it an age thing) . Such a shame as food was lovely but hard to enjoy when your made to feel you should not be there ...don't even think we would go back even for a drink

Visited this friendly, very busy pub one Saturday night last September. Had a very nice meal, booking advisable as it is very popular with locals and tourists alike. It's another good old fashioned pub with a nice atmosphere. Would recommend it.

We went there not once, but twice, during our week's stay in Appleton-le-Moors, which tells you how much we enjoyed our visit. Our party of nine was made extremely welcome by the warm and friendly staff, and was given a large table in a room of our own. The menu was full of variety, and there was something for everyone. We've booked to go back to the area again next year, and will certainly go again to The Moors.

Although we have been to the North Yorkshire Moors quite often, we have never been to the Moors Inn so far. This year we went there for the first time and really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. We also invited friends to the Moors Inn for lunch and they were also highly satisfied. We will come back in 2017!

"you enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" said the bar room sign which greeted this weary wanderer who'd taken a wrong turn. I ordered a pint and sure enough before it was pulled I was in conversation with a local man who thenintroduced me to the bar staff! The Sunday Roast was in full swing, the campers were in and out from the pub campsite and the occasional labrador was stealing hearts but nothing seemed to much trouble for the staff. This is a proper country pub, as warm and cosy as a storybook cottage and it's charm appeared to be working on a nearby American couple who's fantasies of an Olde English Country Pub had all just come true. I was on foot and was a few miles from the nearest town but lo and behold one of my new-found companions insisted on giving me a lift... As I exited the bar I glanced the "enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" sign again - this pub does what it says on the tin!

It would look like I’m beating a drum for this pub! But we keep going back because to be honest it is just such good value. Tried their two steaks for £20, choice of rump, sirloin or ribeye, we both went for sirloin, superb, cooked as we wanted, medium rare, salad, mushrooms, peas, onion rings, and a separate bowl of chips. You must try it! I also think you will find it harder to get a better pint of bitter, landlady told me lines are cleaned at the change of every barrel as well as normal cleaning.

Absolutely loved this pub/restaurant. We sat outside with our dog at one of numerous tables and had a delicious Sunday lunch. So much flavour in the meat and the roast potatoes were the best. A bit pricey but worth it for the setting, the food, the service and the landlord brought out some steak pieces for the dogs to share. Amazing.
