Saturday night away, almost under the stars! My husband booked a meal in the restaurant and our campervan in the car park for a romantic night away, almost under the stars (if it wasn't so cold and rained so much). The pub was very busy, but we were made to feel welcome by Ben, as we enjoyed a drink in front of the roaring fire. Our aim was to go walking, but the rain put an end to that! So we had to have more drinks. Once the rain had stopped, we got our campervan ready for later, husband had a quick snooze (alcohol related) and then got ready for our dinner. The menu was not too large, but there was a wide selection of dishes, enough to satisfy everyone's palate. We opted for cheesy garlic bread, chicken wings, pie of the week chicken, bacon and mushroom with chips and peas, and fish pie with salad and pea, with a side of onion rings to share. All perfectly cooked and decent sized portions. Great stop, in a lovely village in North Yorkshire, and a new favourite for us!

I had the absolute pleasure of stopping by The White Horse Farm for a meal while in the area for work. From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by Stuart, the manager, whose friendly demeanor and constant smile made the experience even more enjoyable. The service was exceptional, and I will most definitely return whenever I’m in the area again.

We had a really nice stay at the White Horse Inn and the staff were friendly and really helpful. As other people have said the views are stunning and we enjoyed a drink in the sunshine enjoying the fabulous views. Our family room was really nice - large, clean and very comfortable with a bath (a treat after the long walk we had done that day), plus beautiful views across Rosedale Abbey. The evening meal was good and the staff were attentive. We were doing a long distance walk and so were provided with a really good quality picnic lunch to take with us. Definitely recommend.

I enjoyed my stay, I had a fairly newly furbished room. It's very recently got a new manager, and I wish her and her team well and hope they can get beyond all the past less than positive reviews. Give the bew team a chance, she's a bit of a uphill struggle with the hotels less than salubrios host from my last visit.

3 night stay in this stunning location. The view from the bedroom into Rosedale was splendid. The staff were very friendly and helpful, but there was a Faulty Towers feel - nothing was quite right. Our room was not made up when we arrived (though it was quickly sorted). The room was of reasonable size, well decorated and with comfortable beds, but the en suite was very small and quite difficult to move about in. Our meal on the first evening was disappointing - a nice piece of venison spoilt by a huge pile of overcooked vegetables and roast potatoes, despite me asking for a small helping. Breakfasts were good - buffet style. Overall good value, but remembered mostly for the view.

Terrible. Phoned to book to be told they were too busy at 7pm as they had a table of 10 coming then. Asked when we could come to be told 6.45pm! Turned up at 6.40pm and was shown into an empty dining room. No one returned for more than 30 minutes to take our order. Then the table of ten arrived and after having their orders taken had their starters and then their main courses served. More than an hour after ordering our miserable burger and Aldi-type frozen pastry (not a Wellington as described) turned up with a half hearted apology, no explanation and an offer of a drink, but we were well past it by then. Went to pay and wasn't asked how our meal was. Laughably bad from start to finish.

Stayed 1 night with my 2 kids. Our room was very clean and beds comfy. No noise at the night time. Friendly bar staff. Lovely seating area outside near a spacious car park. Amazing views. We loved the views and all the rabbits in the fields. We even saw 2 barn owls in the morning. Good choice at breakfast. No phone signal at all. Easy to connect to hotel wifi but you lose the connection outside. A lovely, quirky and individual place to stay.

Well after our meal with friends a few weeks ago I can honestly say it was the worst meal out we’ve all ever had. Cold starters then over an hour to wait for our main course. I did feel sorry for the girl behind the bar who kept apologising for the wait. The vegetables were so over cooked and I’ve never had gravy you could see through. And to finish the night off with the cheese cake still frozen, when we complained there was no apology for it being frozen, the response we got was ‘don’t worry’. It was all inedible, we will definitely not be eating here again.

We took a long walk, right around the head of the valley and arrived at the Inn on time for our booked table for lunch at 12:30 only to find a notice giving the opening time as 3pm! Fortunately we could see someone in the bar and he came to the door before going back to check with the chef and returning to say that we could have lunch. The problem had been a former member of staff who hadn’t written our reservation down! Good food and beer followed. We will certainly return when we’re in the area.

Great weekend, the rooms were basic ,the staff need to work together and think about what people expect, organisation is needed and cleaning needs to be addressed. The food is excellent, even though breakfast was a little disappointing, not the food . But due to no hot water for half an hour to make drinks, serve yourself. no one to clear tables.. just seems that no one can be bothered. A real shame as it could have been so much better. If this is going to work ,talk to each other and look after your guests. I would love to come back as it is in a great location and deserves a chance .. so c'mon staff make it work !

We were booked in for a 2 night stay at the beginning of October. After a very long journey we were greeted with dirty beer glasses on the window sill, more dirty beer glasses and empty cigarette packets on the tables outside, and a notice saying "closed until further notice"! There were a few lights on inside and chairs stacked on tables but in spite of banging on the door several times nobody answered. Somebody must have accepted our booking, we had a confirmation stating there was no front desk at the property and the host will greet guests on arrival. Did nobody even consider, as a matter of courtesy, to get in touch with us to advise us of any situation that might have arisen and they wouldn't be able to accommodate us? This is abysmal service, ruining the start of our trip to Scotland, and it's a shame there wasn't a '0 star' option as it didn't even deserve 1 star treating customers with a confirmed booking like this.

We turned up here at 4pm on Friday Oct 6th having booked 3 rooms for 2 nights & paid £90 deposit. Me & my 81 year old mum had driven 3 hours from the midlands. We were also expecting my brother from Cardiff & my sons from the midlands. The last communication we had had from White horse farm inn was on Monday encouraging me to book into the restaurant as it gets busy at the weekend. This was the first red flag as I then had no response to my 2 phone calls & 2 online enquiries. When we arrived the place was closed with a blackboard outside saying ‘closed until further notice’. My mum knocked on the door & was told by the man that opened it that they had had a leak. There was no apology, no offer to recompense, no attempt to help my mum with information about other accommodation in the area. When my mum got stressed & questioned why they had been emailing about booking the restaurant, the man said ‘he wasn’t going to be spoken to like that’ & shut the door in her face. We were left in the car park in an area with no phone signal, so no way to contact the other family members who were on their way, & nowhere to stay. Absolutely appalling behaviour. We are reasonable people & understand that things happen but to treat my elderly mum in that way with absolutely no attempts to help our situation was shocking. About an hour later when we had arrived somewhere with a signal, I received an automated email cancellation form which gave the impression we had cancelled so would not be eligible for a deposit refund. Be aware - the online booking remains open & taking people’s deposits.

Booked for a Sunday night in the week before for a large group of us on Sunday evening. Arrived and asked if I would like the carvery - said I would look at the menu first and then decide, sat down and could not find a menu so returned to ask for one only to be told they were only serving carvery - would have been good to be told this when we booked or walked in. We all decided to give the carvery a go - which was been served in a small room off the bar. Beef, turkey and pork on offer - only the beef had a vein running through so they decided not to serve it. To say the carvery is one of the worst I have ever tasted is an understatement. The pork was dry, the Yorkshire puddings overcooked, roast potatoes were raw as were the roast carrots and broccoli, the mashed potato was like wall paper paste. They had run out of roast parsnips (we arrived at 6pm). The veg was all piled together in a mish mash of dishes - the cook bringing replacements through was carrying it in tubs that looked like large jam/paint pots. 4 of our group decided to have a pudding - 2 ordered a chocolate brownie - one arrived with chocolate sauce, the other just plain - we queried why they were different so the waitress went to check and said they had run out of sauce - were they just hoping we would not notice? They offered a caramel sauce instead after we had complained. Cocktails had an offer of 2 for £10 but they had run out of a few of them when we went to order. Beautiful setting for the restaurant/hotel and appeared to be under new ownership but the will need to buck up ideas quickly if they want to make a success of it. We certainly will not be returning and would not recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Sadly, although a great looking place to sit and relax after a walk, this place was not very welcoming. Had to stand in the bar for a few minutes before anyone appeared to serve us. Such a shame as the views from outside are beautiful. If the the owners were to promote themselves more, I’m sure this would get more custom as it is located on some wonderful walks.

We made a special trip here today for lunch to reminisce as we had an emotional attachment having been before with parents. They are no longer with us unfortunately but we wanted to go whilst in the area. We looked online for opening times, if food was being served, still dog friendly etc. All good, so we set off and arrived just after midday. The pub looked closed but we could smell food. The chalk board outside (photographed) said they should be open. Tried the handle...closed. We walked around looking for someone to ask but there was no one. After 20 minutes or so a car pulled up, a young girl got out and asked if she could help. We explained the situation and she replied that she was housekeeping and was on her own so won't be opening until 3pm!! There was no notification anywhere online or outside. How many other people went there without knowing? Very, very disappointed. Please change your social media and signs outside if this is going to happen again, thank you. We ended up at The Lion Inn on Blakey Ridge which was wonderful.

Me and my boyfriend were camping at the site just down the road from this pub, at the beginning of September. I rang a week or two in advance to book a table one night. Upon arrival, we were advised we would be sat outside as it is residents only inside, not a problem for me, but when we queried, we were advised that I would have been given this information when booking (I don't remember being told this but nevermind) There is table service, and hand sanitisers provided on the tables for guests to use.My boyfriend had the prawn curry for his main (£12.50 - includes basmati rice, naan bread and mango chutney) I chose the same dish for myself. Unfortunately, despite the menu listing the curry as mild and fruity, I found it too spicy. (My boyfriend also found it spicy but he managed to eat his) I asked one of the gentlemen if I could have another main instead as it was too spicy for me, this was not a problem and I chose a lasagne (which is served with garlic bread and salad)For pudding, we decided to share a 3 cheese cheese board, for £9.00. The cheese board also includes crackers, butters, celery, honey and grapes. Alternatively, you could have a 5 cheese cheese board for £14.00.To drink, my boyfriend had 4 pints of the guest bitter (£4 each) and 1 pint of Theaksons (Also £4.00 each) I decided to try oriental gin (£3.30) with lemonade (75p) and some Masons gin (I can't remember which flavour exactly, I think it was tea gin) this cost £4.00 with lemonade for 75p.We were ready to pay our bill, but waited a bit as we could see the staff rushing around and we didn't want to disturb them, as well as being advised at the beginning of the night that the kitchen had a lot of orders in.We went up to the bar to pay. We have previously been wrongly charged at another establishment before, so I made sure to check the receipt was correct. I noticed I had been charged for a tonic, I raised this with one of the ladies (the receipt shows her name is Teana) I advised I did drink gins but I had lemonade with them, not tonic. She removed this for me and re-printed the receipt. Also very kindly, even though I ended up having the lasagne instead of the curry, she let me pay the price of the curry instead (£1 cheaper than the lasagne) Thank you again for this. I didn't realise until we had gotten back to our camp site, but I had been charged twice for the Masons gin. (I had 1 Masons and 1 oriental gin) I was rather annoyed at myself for not realising this at the time, as I spent a couple of minutes at the bar checking the receipt. We didn't think anything could be done as it might not have been possible to refund me, and they had already let me pay the price of the cheaper main course, so I just left it at that.Just one suggestion that would benefit other guests, would it be possible to put another heater in the marquee area at all, there was a heater near the entrance to the marquee, but we couldn't feel the heat from it, and I wore my coat for the night to try keep warm.

Ate here whilst staying nearby at Sevenford House. As non residents we had to eat in a marquee outside due to Covid 19 and social distancing requirements though this was not a problem. The menu was not as extensive as it might be otherwise but more than adequate and the food we had was delicious - curry and a burger - the latter was gluten free without the bun and whilst the chips would potentially be a problem for a celiac, ok for me with just an intolerance. Staff were very friendly and helpful enabling us to enjoy our first meal out since lockdown started in March. Happy to recommend

I appreciate this is a challenging time for pubs and restaurants, but came away feeling pretty disappointed with our meal. The waitress was great, working very hard but my roast dinner was poor, especially the Yorkshire pudding, which was inedible, I did point it out to the waitress, who replaced it with another one, but this was also inedible (although not as black as the first one!) potatoes hard, meat dry. Cold food for Sunday lunch at 7 pm what they had left wasn’t even on the menu yet they had no issue with charging the full amount. Flavourless Turkey undercooked new potatoes & cold mash. Possibly struggling with the current situation but need to do better as we won’t be going again

We called in for a pre booked lunch, except we had come to the wrong pub! However the staff fitted us in and we had an excellent lunch starter was a prawn cocktail with melon which was a nice and refreshing touch. My wife had roast beef and I had roast belly pork with fantastic crackling. Good beer, an IPA, I cant recall the name. The pub was very Covid Conscious with a one way system in the pub. Highly recommended.

I am absolutely so impressed with the meal I have just received at the white horse. Presentation was what I’d expect from a fine dining restaurant in a city. I ordered a prawn cocktail starter which had an abundance of king prawns accompanied by a lovely sauce. Followed by a flat iron steak cooked exactly how I requested. The veg was perfectly cooked for me and the chips were regimentally cut and cooked with the correct amount of course salt seasoning. The chef came out with a goose fat beetroot taster that had been three days in preparation/cooking following my meal as he wanted to get some feed back ! WOW, I am so impressed with this meal and at such a reasonable price. Please visit and be impressed.

Finally got chance to return, this time for Sunday lunch with a friend.Food excellent, as during my previous visit, a more than satisfactory carvery, including some delicious local venison and a more than acceptable dessert, variations on raspberries. Again staff were excellent, chef happy to chat about the food and where it comes from, the owner coming round the tables to check everything was ok. Will definitely be back again.

It was our 1st time staying here and stayed for 4 days! From booking to departing it was simply perfect. The food was good, good choices and well presented. The Inn was very clean, tidy and in good shape. The room was great too, and was warm, well equipped and comfortable. the prices were great too and certainly won't make a dint in your wallet. The bar area was good too, great choices of Gins available and not overly priced. Staff were warm, welcoming and very friendly and real ambassadors to the company. So would we go again? Most definitely and certainly a great place in a great area of the North York Moors!

We arrived at 7.55pm having been delayed getting to Rosedale and finding the pub in the village had stopped serving food early, and although they stopped food at 8pm the very kindly fed us, delicious steak and ale pie and my husband had lambs liver, also excellent, he had the chocolate fondant for dessert which looked amazing and I had the bread and butter pudding which was s bit stodgy but nice flavour. Good selection of gin and husband happy with Theakstons on tap. Dogs welcome in also. Thanks to the staff for getting us fed and happy!

We came here for drinks and snacks during our visit to chimney bank tops. Staff were friendly. I felt prices were a little on the high side but the views from the beer garden outside were worth the cost. For the size of the outside space I think they could benefit from a little play park or something for the families with kids. On the plus side they offer free wifi to customers which is very handy in an area with no internet/phone signal.

We keep trying the White Horse over the years on our camping trip to Rosedale Show. We have had one or two 'eccentric' visits, but this year it was very good. The staff were efficient and the food was excellent. All with a lovely table by the window with superb views over the valley.

Think we picked the night with new bar staff and/or a new till system, glad it wasn't the weekend! Average rating is a bit harsh but I wouldn't rate it as very good either, so blame Trip Advisor criteria. Took a while to get two pints but they went down well once we got them. Ordered the chicken curry and the lambs liver. Arrived piping hot and were tasty. Both were generous in the amount of meat/chicken in them but I was a little taken aback at how many garden peas there were in the curry (unfortunately I can't stand them and there was no mention of them in the ingredients) so worth checking before you order. We were presented with the wrong bill at the end but that was soon rectified with minimal fuss. Most dishes cost £13-£14 which is comparable with its competitor down the road. Some dishes had sold out (the pie) but it is what it is, this is not something we encounter in the Midlands so it came as a bit of a surprise. Tasty food, very average service, based upon this one visit.

Excellent meal and excellent beers served by very friendly staff, the chef has just changed and is clearly upping the level of the offerings with more challenging dishes. If our experience is the norm , he is clearly succeeding.

The view is fantastic, the food was average. Tried the Sunday carvery where I was allowed one slice of turkey. My partner asked for another slice of lamb and was told "I think you have enough there mate, I have a table of 17 coming in". My partner had two very thin slices one of which was the end of the joint. Veg was ok but not a lot of choice. Yorkshire puddings and roast veg was only just warm.

Returning from a day out on the NYM Railway we just called in and asked if meal possible on way back to our B&B.; We enjoyed a hearty meal, well presented, hot and flavoursome. I would recommend the lambs liver. Good range of local ales and friendly barman. In fact, all staff we encountered were friendly yet professional. We liked the comfortable surroundings and old pictures on the walls (historic?).

We called in one night for a meal as we were staying locally. After ordering drinks and being shown to a table we were told that there would be a wait as there was a coach party booked in. Had we known this we would have gone elsewhere and come back on another occasion but it was, by then, too late. The food when it arrived was good and we enjoyed the meal but the beer was not in particularly good condition and I elected not to have a second pint.

I first used to visit this pub when I was a teenager, I’m now in my 60’s. My parents had a caravan down in the village. It was lovely to see how it is now a restaurant. We had to try the food as it was lunchtime. It wasn’t disappointing, chips were best ever. The view is still fantastic from the windows.

Having known this establishment for a number of years, because of its position within Rosedale Abbey we would call for a drink. However some 12 months ago the business changed hands and the new owners invested some money in the business. Along with the financial investment came new staff, a new menu and new kitchen staff. In June this year we decided to dine and what a surprise. A great menu and well presented and tasty food. since that first meal we have eaten regularly. If you call, try the Stilton Chicken, the steaks are fantastic, the Peppered Casserole Beef on Tagliatelle is to die for and if you are seriously hungary I dare you to attempt the Spaghetti Bolognese.

Called in yesterday... and yes I appreciate it was a busy Sunday... but we were greeted with an abrupt “have you booked” & we said no...” well we are full”. We explained we would just like a drink..were told we couldn’t have one because there were no tables.. there was plenty of space to stand with a drink or we could have even taken them outside, The lady was very surly and treated us like “how dare we even go in.” Very disappointed as we regularly visit Rosedale certainly made to feel very unwelcome, almost as though we’d done something wrong.... won’t be rushing back.

This is a lovely place but let down by how chaotic it was . I got two scones and two coffees took the scones to our table and was told the drinks would be brought across, The scones were hard ( certainly not fresh ) I had trouble biting mine I had to cut it up to eat it , it was dry , I also noticed someone took a scone back I heard the girl say it must of got mixed up with the fresh ones , ours must have been last weeks ,It was 15 minutes before we got our drinks I noticed several tables hadn't got theres either , people were going to the counter to complain by this time . Just needs a bit more organising, who wants to eat a scone without a drink !!!..on the other hand we will go again to try the Gardeners lunch which looked delicious
