Our second visit. Didn’t match up to the first. We were seated at a claustrophobic table next to a radiator with no windows. Ordered Sunday lunch that came with 3 boiled potatoes in their skin. No roast potatoes or mash. Plenty of meat but somehow it didn’t have much flavour. Also the waitress got our very straightforward drinks order wrong. It was expensive and disappointing.

We booked a table at the lion inn for our anniversary meal we arrived with our 2 year old so decided on arrival to order food and drink at the bar so our little one wouldn’t get bored with the wait. We were shown to our table, people were arriving around us and getting food before ours so questioned where our food was after waiting for nearly an hour we were then told that our food order had been lost and our food wasn’t even started obviously now our 2 year was getting restless, we left very disappointed the pub was recommended by a friend. Such a shame won’t be returning or recommending.

This is our favourite pub in the whole of England. As a family we've been going here for 40 years. It's never changed. The location is fantastic - the 12 mile Rosedale Loop is a serious hike. The Guinness is great. The fish and chips as good as you'll find anywhere. The pub is welcoming, and ideal for walkers, cyclists, day visitors. Dogs love the place. Muddy boots are OK, but best left at the entrance as a courtesy to staff. When our kids now adults return to visit us they often ask to go to the Lion, remembering countless visits with the grandparents. All year round, this is a fantastic pub.

Good food, you can now get small portions. Fires lit, great service as always. We stayed, would love a king size bed but I don't think many rooms have them. Breakfast was ok but not keen on things being kept warm and just dished up.

We've been to blakey ridge many times but this time was for a special birthday. Nestled in the moors, surrounded by countryside! Food was absolutely amazing. My fillet steak was 8-10oz which was definitely over 10oz! The Restaurant had specials on which were also delightful! The ambience was calm and tranquil - the perfect atmosphere was this gem of a pub!

Must admit that despite being regular customers over the years this was our first visit since Covid. Really pleased to see the interior exactly the same as always, cosy, unique and dog friendly. But what’s happened to the menu? I was really looking forward to having our favourite Old Peculiar Casserole or steak and mushroom pie but they were missing from the menu along with the legendary T bone steak. No chalk board specials either. We were gutted. Chose steak and ale pie. The portion was enormous but the steak didn’t melt in the mouth like the casserole and although the pastry was very good I much preferred the old Blakey flaky pastry. I know times change but this wasn’t a change for the better but if you’ve never been before it’s still worth a visit though I won’t be rushing back. Beer selection is still excellent

The meals here were huge and delicious. We came for dinner both nights that we were in the area. The pub had a quaint, rural feel with hidden nooks and crannies, and we could find somewhere warm and cozy to sit in the bar area without any trouble. There are also several restaurant rooms if you prefer a more formalised setting. Well worth the 5mile round walk from our B&B

"Lion Inn at Blacky Bridge is an epic gem! The restaurant served mouthwatering dishes with a delightful blend of flavour's and very large portions. The cozy bed and breakfast offered a restful stay amidst nature's beauty. The staff were friendly mostly, but! After our main meal we were rudely told that our table of 8 was booked as we were about to order pudding, which disappointed our families’ making the overall experience memorable in an unusual way. Highly recommended for travelers seeking a charming retreat." Only the staff can’t tell customers they can’t order a pudding, as the table was booked out. Even though we waited patiently for the menus, food and drinks. The only disappointment.

Sensational place to visit and stay if possible. Lots of hikers stop here for food Nd drink and a bed if required. This is one of the oldest puns I’ve been in for years. Truly magnificent with its stone walls and low ceilings.

Table for for four please. Called on the way back from Eden Camp with our friends, were ready for a nice hearty meal. Very nice old worldly classical pub interior with low beam ceiling (mind your head!) Warm and friendly atmosphere. Our friends had visited a couple of years previously and were surprised how much the price of food had increased. Example: Cod fish and chips £18-95. For that reason alone we will probably give it a miss in future.

Stayed over on a Friday night. Hotel has a fabulous location and is perfectly located for some stunning walks. We enjoyed our walking sessions very much. Enjoyed lunch, evening meal.and breakfast the following morning. Big portions and great value for money. Nice touch too, as an overnight guest you automatically get a table for the evening of your stay in the restaurant at whatever time you want and its yours for the evening. This means you can avoid the busy bad area (and on the Friday night we stayed the bar was rammed). Great staff, friendly and attentive and overall a lovely experience. Hotel is fairly priced for what it is. Loads of positives, and amazing location but sadly in need of a bit of tlc. The bed was ridiculous soft and creaked terribly. The rooms are tired and really could benefit from an upgrade. Would I stay again....yes but I would rather pay more and be more comfortable ! Location is really the selling point of this place, supplemented by hearty food and friendly staff

The Lion Inn is a shadow of it's former self. I have visited this place many times over many years. Restaurant was quiet and the serving staff were not that attentive but they were young and in the throes of learnng the trade I suppose. The main gripe is the meal. Fish ànd chips here used to be top notch. Fatty flaccid batter that looked like it was the frozen factory produced type was produced. The chips were soggy and unusually served with salad. I like salad so hey ho - but? Value for money it is not. Overall the vibe has gone. Could just have been a one off but I know other friends who patronise this establishment no longer do so because of poor quality and value for money.

We visited this pub on three evenings last week. We have visited many times over the years and always found the food and staff excellent. For obvious reasons we have been unable to visit for almost a year. Was wondering what we would find but...

What a wonderful lunch today, fantastic food as usual. I have never been let down by the Lion and the staff. We've been eating there for years and not once have we felt unwelcome. Today we returned sfter 20 months of uncertainty caused by this...

Stayed at the Lion Inn for a night whilst walking the Wainwrights Coast to Coast. Camping was fine outside the car park, you've got access to the toilets and the showers inside the pub, which were fine. What seriously let the place down was not...

It would look like I’m beating a drum for this pub! But we keep going back because to be honest it is just such good value. Tried their two steaks for £20, choice of rump, sirloin or ribeye, we both went for sirloin, superb, cooked as we wanted, medium rare, salad, mushrooms, peas, onion rings, and a separate bowl of chips. You must try it! I also think you will find it harder to get a better pint of bitter, landlady told me lines are cleaned at the change of every barrel as well as normal cleaning.

"you enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" said the bar room sign which greeted this weary wanderer who'd taken a wrong turn. I ordered a pint and sure enough before it was pulled I was in conversation with a local man who thenintroduced me to the bar staff! The Sunday Roast was in full swing, the campers were in and out from the pub campsite and the occasional labrador was stealing hearts but nothing seemed to much trouble for the staff. This is a proper country pub, as warm and cosy as a storybook cottage and it's charm appeared to be working on a nearby American couple who's fantasies of an Olde English Country Pub had all just come true. I was on foot and was a few miles from the nearest town but lo and behold one of my new-found companions insisted on giving me a lift... As I exited the bar I glanced the "enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" sign again - this pub does what it says on the tin!

Absolutely loved this pub/restaurant. We sat outside with our dog at one of numerous tables and had a delicious Sunday lunch. So much flavour in the meat and the roast potatoes were the best. A bit pricey but worth it for the setting, the food, the service and the landlord brought out some steak pieces for the dogs to share. Amazing.
