The Crown in Ryedale

Absolutely loved this pub/restaurant. We sat outside with our dog at one of numerous tables and had a delicious Sunday lunch. So much flavour in the meat and the roast potatoes were the best. A bit pricey but worth it for the setting, the food, the service and the landlord brought out some steak pieces for the dogs to share. Amazing.

Went to this pub without booking for Sunday lunch (recommended). Staff were great and found us a table albeit it a bit wobbly but we weren't complaining. Food was fabulous. Biggest portions of beef and pork we've ever seen. Service was quick and staff were helpful and friendly. Sticky toffee pudding was delicious too.

Stayed two nights here in one of the really well appointed lodges at the rear of the fabulous Crown pub. Welcome was first class and we were able to check in before the normal time, accommodation spotless, warm and ideal for a break or longer stay. Food good in the pub and the staff are excellent, we will definitely return to this beautiful village, the Rydale folk museum next door is also well worth visiting.

Centrally placed in this beautiful North Yorkshire village and with no other pubs available The Crown has a local monopoly. It's a perfectly decent bang average country pub. Food is good but not great although priced on the high side. Menu is quite limited but you'll find something you will eat. Usual selection of beers, nowt special. It's not a bad pub but there's nothing here that will bring us back a second time.

Lovely sandwiches in a very nice pub. Good beer choices, very pleasant staff, tasty food. Recommend the cheese & chutney and ham & piccalilli sandwiches. Very good.

We were all in the area visiting the Ryedale folk museum so decided to pop in here for lunch. Greeted by lovely friendly staff. We got seated were given menus. You order at the bar giving your table number. You can pay as you go or set up a tab and pay before you leave.. We chose a children's pizza n chips a fish and chips and two ham an piccalilli sandwiches. Everyone enjoyed the food. My mam said it was one of the nicest fish and chips she's had in a long time. Perfectly cooked thin batter and lilly white fish. The sandwiches were served with crisps salad and coleslaw. The pub is wheelchair accessible via the front door that slopes down. It also has a large disabled toilet. The inside of the pub is on the flat so there's no issues for people with mobility issues. The pub is full of charm and old features its a lovely English traditional pub. If we were visiting the area we would definitely dine here again

I stayed here for one night whilst walking in the area. Nice little village with a couple of tea shops, bakery and a lovely little museum next door to the pub. The rooms are recently converted, spotlessly clean and self catering, but there was everything I needed for breakfast. I'd arrived on a Monday afternoon and the pub closed at 6, so I only had time for a couple of pints and bar sandwich before it closed, but it seemed a nice enough place. Pity it closed so early though on what was a glorious evening. Even as I sat outside finishing my drink just after 6pm, 3 different groups of people looking for food and drink were turned away. I'd had the early closing well communicated to me in advance, so it wasn't a problem personally, but the people just turning up did seem a bit bemused by the pub closing so early on a lovely evening. Oh well, your pub, your rules...

Food is fantastic and the price is exactly what you would expect for the location. We loved it so much we booked to stay a few days later and had a Sunday lunch. The Sunday lunch was the best I’ve had outside of our own home. I would truly recommend here, I don’t always leave reviews and don’t give 5 stars lightly

Excellent beer, landlord and pub grub. A nice atmosphere with beer that is served properly. The locals seemed to use it for food and beer which is always a good sign.

Nice cozy pup but the Menu was disappointing. We ordered burgers which were very overcooked to the extent of being hard. The chips had been warmed up and were soggy, brown and limp, onion rings were similar. Not cheap at £19.95 each either. Great shame, could obviously be so much better. Maybe it was the chefs night off.

Stayed in cropton lodges with the family found the crown on trip advisor 110% recommend this place for food it was delicious and they was extremly friendly even had board games for the kids which was a breath of fresh air from there video games. Highly recommended

We visited The Crown for Sunday lunch and had a delicious roast, the beef was tasty and tender and the Yorkshire as massive as other reviewers have suggested. We had our dog with us, she’s not a great fan of pubs but we were kindly given a nice table where we could keep her out of the way. The beer was spot on as was everything else about the pub. I’m sure we’ll be back next time we’re in the area!

From the moment we walked in the door to the moment we left everything was superb. The staff are excellent, the surroundings are great, the beer/cider selection is very good but absolutely the best of all is the food. Steak pie and chips, sausage and mash, veg and filo pie…..all of them were superb. We will definitely be back and highly recommend it to anyone else.

Had a meal here when we stayed for the weekend. We were greeted warmly and given a table by the window as it was fairly quiet. It was a small menu but enough to keep us occupied, and as soon as we saw the venison shepherds pie we were sold! And it was as good as we anticipated. Good pub grub in a lovely village.

Called in on the off chance and what a success it was, the staff were friendly, efficient and helpful, the atmosphere in the pub great and the food, gammon steak and burger with lots of accompaniments lovely and the chips just yummy, we were told it was a limited menu but still had lots of choice. Food served within a short time and eaten within an even shorter time, cannot recommend too highly.

We booked last minute for an evening meal, and had such a lovely time. The pub feels cosy and welcoming, which was matched by the staff. My children were chatted to and made to feel welcome too. The food was excellent, with Yorkshire sized portions. The only slight 'criticism', and this is me being picky, was the 'al dente' veg was a little too al dente. Cannot for the life of me imagine why anyone could critise the service here- Hutton le Hole is such a little hidden gem too.

Just visiting for a long weekend at Kirbymoorside and found this lovely pub. Had a great Sunday lunch highly recommended.

Fantastic! Lovely old pub with rooms, bustling with customers at the bar and diners at the tables. Always a good sign. Really good, perfectly cooked Sunday roast. Generous hearty helpings, more if we had wanted. Just the spot after a lovely walk around this picture postcard village. Recommended.

Dropped in on the off chance for Sunday lunch. Despite being very busy the landlord found us a table for two after a short wait. (Just long enough to visit the deli over the road) Two Sunday roasts, one beef the other turkey, were excellent. As was the pint of Theakston’s! My only complaint is that the roasts were so huge I couldn’t manage a pudding! An obviously well managed establishment.

Great find in a really beautiful village. Nice range of homecooked meals using local ingredients. Highly recommend the beef stew and the eton mess using local raspberry icecream. Advise booking a table as they are really popular

Sunday lunch - beef ok, pork terrible - tough and fatty - roast potatoes bland and soggy, veggies ok, yorkshire pudding like polystyrene. Not a good experience all in all. Definitely wouldn’t go back.

We went for a Saturday night meal here and really enjoyed it. Large carpark at the back, free for patrons. On a cool, damp September evening it wasn't too busy. The food was a bit pricey at around £17 for a main but we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The staff couldn't be more helpful and the atmosphere was cosy. My daughter and husband had desserts and they were beautiful, I had to sample them! Sticky toffee pudding was lovely. Light and treackly. We would go back.

We had the roast beef Sunday dinner and was all it was described to be. Pink and 2 very thick slices. Mash and roast along with plenty of vegetables. The Yorkshire pud was one of the biggest we'd seen and was home baked (no frozen rubbish). A great selection of beers and ales too. Highly recommended.

So disappointing…. Lovely looking pub full of character but unfortunately the food let us down. Paid £17 for scampi and chips which tasted like it was from a frozen bag from the supermarket. No flavour at all. Asked for a coffee after our meal to be told the machine was broke and they don’t have a kettle to use ????? Also the beer wasn’t working so only cider and lager choice to drink. Don’t think would rush back.
